Hello, 3 years ago I hard-bricked my galaxy player 5.0 US variant with capacitive home, back and menu keys. I became smarter since then and I now know how to do this stuff without like screwing up . However I have had this sitting in a box for over 3 years now and of course now I have had these amazing devices like the Galaxy S6, Oneplus two, and LG G4. I would love to get back to this device as it was my favorite device along with my captivate because I thought Samsung was really trying to make their own "ipod killer". I have tried this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386669 and I don't understand one part. How do you get the UnBrickable Resurrector Revision36?? When you click on the link in the thread, you go to a github page I don't understand it how do you download the file though? Is the file a .jar file I know it needs to be run in Ubuntu which I have installed already I also have the VM I just cannot find the UnBrickable Resurrector. If anyone can help me that would be awesome, and once I get that working if I have anymore problems I will say so here!
Thanks in advance!
I was able to get the .jar file running but it cannot detect the device I held the power button for 15 seconds and I made sure it had a full charge by letting it charge for 2 hours.

so I made an ultra bone head move. I orginally bricked my phone to hte point it said AST_STAT in red text I think learned of the vol up and down tick to put iit into download mode. I was able to flash and had a working device again although be it 2.1.
I should of really stopped at this point, I figured man that was easy I'll get the latest firmware and get back up to 2.2 well it bricked again I have the computer, phone and the ! I figured okay no problem its not as bad as last time right?
WRONG none of the button combos work and I bought a jig from mobiletechvideos.com and that just displays the same thing as above I can't get into download mode to save my life on my phone.
I've got a new one coming from T-Mobile as a swap but seriously the $450 axe they have hanging over my head doesn't feel so good I know there was a similar thread but it never went anywhere there was no resolution and I'm hoping one of you fine posters will have a trick to help me out of this jam.
I've tried every button combo nothing seems to do it I just couldn't leave well enough alone lesson learned but I'm hoping there is still a way out.
Thanks everyone!
...What did you try flashing that first time?
It wasn't per chance something that contained bootloader like one of the new Gingerbread ROMS was it? A few of them still have bootloader flashes which can brick you.
It would be helpful if you listed what you tried flashing and the steps you took.
When I brick like that, that's the only screen I get. If Odin sees your phone, you can flash it. The !--pc screen doesn't matter.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Orginally flashed it with T959UVJFD.tar and 512.PIT using ODIN3 1.0 ODIN does see my phone I'll keep giving it a shot it kept freezing at Cache.rpf but persistence might pay off.
Thanks for the quick replies!
You should try using Odin 1.7. I found it works best.
Soo who wants the first handy J in the corner? J/K you guys are ****ing amazing you will be dumbfounded none the less.
So here is my situation.
MY Rig:
Dell XPS 420
Win 7
Wife's PC
Custom built Win 7 with ABIT Mobo
I D/L ODIN 7 it fails again at Cache.rfs so I pull the plug just like the first time around I turn it on and notice it isn't turning on quickly anymore so I use hte JIG BOOM DOWNLOAD MODE!!
My XPS will not flash my phone to save my life so once again I flashed on hers using ODIN 1.0 and same FW as mentioned above it failed on cache.rfs and I pulled the plug and put it in download mode again using two button (vol + -, USB + Battery) and it flashes it fine.
Seriously I'm in debt and I so want to move to CM 7 as my buddy runs it on his t-mobile 4G (the very first 4g phone can't remember name) but I think I'm just going to hold my horses on doing anything for awhile
I honestly think the XPS 420 chipset might not be good for flashing android phones I never ever could get it to go I even tried in a virtual environment running XP and same exact thing occurred every time.
sorry to repeat myself but thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
All,
I have to say thanks for the help in advance, well I'm in the military and I have never done anything to my G-tablet. All I used it for was to OOVOO and talk with my kids when I am in the DESERT Guys over there are always doing crazy stuff to theirs and crazy stuff always happens to them, some good some bad. :cyclops: Well here it goes my brother-in-law took my tablet without my knowledge and decided he would upgrade me to a better system :crying::crying::crying::crying: well he killed it!!!!!!! and I leave to go back to the desert in a week or so. He says something must of been wrong with it before he touched it, yeah likely story!!! it worked fine when I used it last. I have to say I have little knowledge on how to do things to this tablet IE rooting roms and all of that stuff, not saying I'm not willing to learn just very dumb when it comes to doing it. I'm one of those give it to me step by step by step
So this is what I have done so far
1. I plug it in to my Computer Windows Vista Home premium 64 bit system and it does not recognize it.
2. I opened it up and have disconnected the internal battery cord and plugged it back in still no life
3. I pressed the little white button and no reset happened
4. Held down the power button and down sound button and (3 birds ViewSonic - Detect a recovery key pressed - Booting recovery kernel image) popped up then nothing it just sits like that.
5. I have also let the battery completely drain to zero then charge it back up and still nothing.
Please help me and I'm sorry if I've been rambling on but talking to my kids when I'm deployed is the only thing I look forward to doing when I'm in the desert, Once again I would like to thank the smart guys on this forum for helping us not sooooo smart ones with our problems.

1.- Try other windows version, works fine on Windows 7 x32 / x64 - tested my self
3.- wich white reset button? i never saw it !
4.- You tried POWER+VOLUME (+)? - POWER+VOLUME(-)?(this its for nvflash as far i know, im also a begginer)
Your tab is not dead, but it is not properly flashed either. If you hold power and Vol UP and it shows booting recovery but doesnt boot it, then there is a bad recovery flashed, or none at all. To fix this, you will have to NVFLASH a recovery/OS on it. There are better than stock OS's but since you need it for webchating with family I would suggest Frankentab.
Download this file:
http://teamdrh.com/DRH-Downloads/Full_Stock_NVFlash_CWM_5504_Touch.zip
Then extract it somewhere you can find it.
Using a usb Male to usb mini cable, the one that came with your tablet, plug your tab into your computer (tab turned off)
Hold down the VOL DOWN button and press power button and hold it too. The three birds should pop up, then go away, black screen.
After black screen, computer will say found new hardware. You must manually choose the drivers needed, and their location will be in a folder titled "flash usb drivers" and it is inside the folder you downloaded and extracted.
After the drivers are installed, without turning anything off, run the file nvflash_gtablet.bat which is inside the extracted folder you downloaded. This will take a while, but once it is done, you can turn off and turn back on your tablet. After a few minutes, it should completely boot back into a stock ROM.
If you are cool with this, then you are done. If you would like to run something MUCH FASTER then let me know when you get to this point and I will show you how to accomplish this. If you run into any problems report back and I or someone will help.
Just had this problem on a new (well refurbished) gTab I got during black Friday. Works great and is not hard to fix the issue once in APX. hardest part was getting the drivers installed (running win 7 x64).
I had to go to the CWM page to download the correct version of the recovery, the version listed in the guide is outdated, or not listed that it is for 1.1 only and not 1.2.
Seems like a great tablet, can't wait to get using it. Thanks!

do you remember where you downloaded the right recovery version for windows 7 ?
Please don't beat me with the n00b stick :crying: but this is my first attempt at unlocking/flashing my note2 and only the second time I've ever attempted to root a device (first was a droid x).
I've looked around but I'm just not able to find anything that describes the issue I'm having.
Items im using:
Donate version of the Skipsoft toolkit for note2
CASUAL rooting program
Odin v3
Verizon Note 2 running 4.1.2 AMC3
The problem I'm having is I want to reflash the stock image back to the phone making it out of the box new. The problem is, when I'm in odin, according to the directions from SKipsoft, the box under id:comm should be blue. It's not.. when I choose the file to flash under the PDA, and click start, nothing happens other than all threads completed successfully 0 of 0. the phone goes into the download mode just fine but it won't do anything else.
The phone is rooted but I've noticed some bugs in the performance of the phone since I've rooted it, and I want it to go back to stock as it is getting annoying as heck to keep pulling the battery or having the phone lock up and power itself off randomly.
If this is the wrong forum, I am so sorry! I'm a n00b with 0 posts and I cant post in the actual thread for the toolkit I'm using . I would be ever grateful for some help or options as how to fix my device.
Thank you all of xda as you have been a big help when I was using my droid x, I didn't have to join then because I never ran into problems. I was hoping it was going to be easy and straight forward for me this time, but it seems verizon has hidden a few gotcha's in the phone.

This should explain everything everything you need. Your issue sounds like a driver issue, so just Google "galaxy note 2 drivers" and download them from the Samsung page. This sounds like a relatively simple issue so keep us posted if this works.

Glad I could help
Nowadays it's near impossible to brick a device, almost all devices can come back from issues like this.

oh believe me, if there's a way for it to get screwed up, i'm sure i'll figure it out! usually how my luck rolls.
now if I could get just stock jelly bean on my device, without all of the touchwiz stuff i'd be ok.. but then again i'd probably loose some of the features ive come to enjoy like s-pen n such
So without getting too long winded, I've spent roughly 20 hours so far bringing my Galaxy Player back from the grave. Thinking that I was a rooting and ROM'ing expert (I had done it on other devices after all), I managed to royally screw up my YP-G70 to the point that it was at the black screen of death with no signs of life. Through hours of research on here and doing a crash course on Linux, I was able to use Adam's Unbrickable resurrector tool to breed new life into my device. Eventually I was able to get a few files in through Heimdall so I at least have working bootloaders. Unfortunately, the device is showing all the signs of partition problems that others like Meticulus helped people with. While I have read all the posts, I must admit I am totally getting lost at the actual order of commands to give to Fdisk to accomplish anything. For example, I have tried to run the command to change the number of heads to one, but it just gives me errors. I have been able to see that mine currently shows four, which I know is not correct based on seeing past pictures from Meticulus. If someone could help walk me through the order of commands, I am pretty confidant I can get this thing back up and running after being told there was no hope for it. I'd be glad to give a big thank you and a donation to the beer or significant other fund if someone can help me figure it out. I must admit I have ZERO experience with FDisk so that is probably half my problem and I am just doing something minor which is keeping me from having the partitions fixed. I also have entropy512's kernel installed for root.
Sticking points still- While it doesn't matter much with the partitions being a mess, the Galaxy Player is still not seen in Odin , unless it's in recovery. If it's in download mode, Odin will not see it at all. So for flashing, at the moment, my only real option seems to be Heimdall.
Hello all,
My first post here and I cant really think of a better place where I might get help beyond the endless trawling through the internets. I have already done. My hair is going even more grey!
I have a problem that I just cant work out.. I have already spent far too many hours trying to find ways to fix. So its best I ask here and maybe someone will know how to fix it.
I have a Note 2. Owned it since new and its been fantastic, does everything I need out of a phone and I want to keep it working. I have no interest in buying a new phone ( nor that I can afford it! )
About 6 weeks ago it died after I had let the battery run flat over night. It just would not turn on. I tried all the internet fixes and nothing worked. Sudden death syndrome I think its called. Fairly common with these I have learned.
I bought a new motherboard from China on Aliexpress. Good feedback from seller. $35. It arrived two weeks ago. I swapped the motherboards and the new one worked. I had to change the phone over to English and re-load my favourite apps, exciting.. just like getting a new phone again
It worked well enough and I was happy. I noted that in the about section, plus in the apps draw, SUPERSU. I looked this up and figured that maybe the main chip had been rooted. Possibly that the motherboard was atually a fixed secondhand one, possibly they use another chipset that needs rooting to work? I don't know but it worked so I left it.
One thing that did annoy me was that when I connected my phone via USB to the laptop (a Samsung) the photo thumbnails would not show up like they used to. I looked this up and it was common. I suggested fix was to look for phone updates on Kies.
Then about 4 days ago I decided to install Samsung Kies onto my computer and update the phone. It said there were updates to install and I clicked go.
I went through the process and it all looked good until when the update process said it had finished. Then the phone just started to flash the Samsung symbol on and off, spaced every two seconds. Bugger!
So I tried a recovery mode on kies, that did not work. I tried booting into recovery (all three keys, volume up) and it does nothing at all. Samsung just keeps flashing on and off. I have tried everything!
However- it will boot into download mode so I have tried reloading the correct Samsung firmware back on with Odin three, several times! Everytime when it re-boots it just flashes. Cant get into recovery.
This is now where I am at. I want to know how to get into recovery via my PC. Maybe through some program. But I don't know how. I'll happily load on a new ROM but not sure which and most seem to need me to be able to change some settings within the phone first...which I cant obviously do. I have looked into Omegadroid and Lineage which both appeal. But there seems to be no way I can load them on from where I am at with this phone.
I am hoping that there some sort of program I can use to 'hard re-set' or wipe the phone completely start again?
Any help and suggestions very welcome. I am not at all adept at programming so keep it all in laymans terms (I have already learned so much in the last few days that my brain might well explode!)
Thank you in advance,
Alex

Hi Alex, Welcome to XDA-Developers!
It sounds like your Note needs a full wipe indeed. But first, I wouldn't have used AliExpress if I were you! These Chinese shops cannot be trusted when it comes to spare parts.
It worked well enough and I was happy. I noted that in the about section, plus in the apps draw, SUPERSU. I looked this up and figured that maybe the main chip had been rooted. It's very possible that the mother was a second hand one. So, so it might have been rooted by the last owner.
However- it will boot into download mode so I have tried reloading the correct Samsung firmware back on with Odin three, several times! Everytime when it re-boots it just flashes. Cant get into recovery.

Actually, this is what Odin software really does. If it fails, I'm afraid you'll have to take it to a repair shop again. Or maybe you can try another firmware. If you can remember the build number that was in "About" section before you flash it with Odin, then we could figure out what you were using in the first place. Perhaps by installing the firmware of that build number, you'll get it to boot.
And oh! The correct recovery mode combination is "HOME + Volume Up + Power Button". You mentioned "All three buttons + Volume Up" (4 buttons ?!), I assume then that you meant "HOME + Volume Down + Power + Volume UP"
Hey thanks for the reply- sorry for the late reply back..
When I plugged it into Kies I had no intention to do anything other than a usual Samsung update so I didnt look up the build number or any other info beforehand.
Well..that is one leasson learned!
Yeah- it was a typo when I said what keys I pressed. In order to try and get into the recovery mode I did indeed press 'home, power and volume up'. But nothing ever happens... the Samsung symbol just keeps on flashing away...mocking me
Is there any other program out there that I could try? I downloaded a program called Z3X Samsung tool. Used for flashing I believe? It installed fine but when activated, with the phone connected in download mode all I got was a prompt saying 'Cant find chip'

Hi,
I don't think there is any other tool you can use besides ODIN. The Z3X Software appears to require a flashing hardware (the box). In order to be able to flash your device using this tool, you'll need that box first. So, your best shot right now is to take the phone to a repair center. They often have device flashing hardwares (like the Z3X box) which provide convenient results but ultimately costs few bucks (compared to ODIN which is free if it works for you).
One last explanation to what your device is experiencing is that the motherboard is somewhat not working again. I really don't like this one either, but you can't ignore it. If you had bought it from a local shop or repair center, perhaps they could have assisted you in the current situation or maybe they could have even replaced it with another one.
I hope you'll find a way to revive your Note 2. There isn't much I can suggest anymore right now, as I have moved away from Samsung since 2014 (I owned the Note 2 aswell! Great device at that time).

Yeah thanks. I'll try the repair centre in the city next time I visit the big smoke. The phone certainly worked well for me but if its indeed dead, again, all is not lost because things have moved on and its bloody amazing what phones one can get now for half what I paid when I bought the Note 2.
If I get it fixed I'll certainly post up a reply with details just to help add to the info on this thread that might help other Note 2/Samsung owners in a similar way.

Exactly!
That's the whole spirit of XDA.
Thank you for understanding and good luck. :fingers-crossed:
Ok people of XDA. Here's and update. So I had no luck getting my Note 2 working again. I then bought a brand new Note 4 to see me through and that turned out to be a load of grief too....(Note 4 not liking the Marshmallow update and constantly freezing or rebooting, often every few minutes) oh my. When will the hurting stop?.... but that's another story kids
Anyway- while the Note 4 was out of action I decided I'd better sort the Note 2 out. I ordered another mother board from Aliexpress but before ordering I went through the available board listings, sent the same question off to each seller asking about any potential issues similar to what I have experienced with my current board and waited for replies. The seller that answered with the best reply that gave me some confidence got the sale. Another $35 NZD and this time it actually arrived after about 8 days from ordering.
I fitted the new board and as soon as the phone turned on, changed the language to English and promptly turned auto updates off- just in case.
Its been running perfectly ever since with no problems at all. After the fiasco I have now been having with my Note 4 (which has now been replaced thank fark) using the old Note 2 feels somewhat like jumping from a modern car with all the bells and whistles but too much to go wrong, into a nice old classic that is simplicity itself.
So now I'm off to look for answers on why the hell my Note 4 constantly wants me to download another update just after I have installed the last one.............
Alex
