[Q] Held Awake Time? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have been experiencing really poor battery life after the latest update U3QOJ5. My standby time is really horrible, now I've realised that Android and Android System are the ones who keep on sucking the most juice, haven't got a concrete solution for it, someone said disabling Android device manager might help and also disabling location services, but that doesn't seem true with my device, even after disabling some packages. Now I got some battery stats, I don't know if I'm wrong but I feel like my device is being held awake for an abnormally a long time(Screenshots attached).
For the Gsam Battery details those stats were collected through a duration of 10hrs and 52mins, so it makes me feel kind of worried that for the most part I was not even touching my device but it was held awake for like 4 hrs
BTW: Wifi, and Sync were on during that time, everything else was off!
*Update
I decided to turn Off WIFI today to see if it gets better but I lost 18% through the night, was asleep for like 7hrs. Really this is not acceptable, someone please help
Your help is much appreciated. Thank you!

it gets worse by the day
Anyone's input is greatly appreciated.
WIFI on all the time, Location OFF, Sync ON, Mobile Data on for a few minutes.

Battery life question

Hi all,
I'm coming back to Android from WP7, and while WP7 is nice, it couldn't do all of what I wanted it to do. I picked up my Photon and was playing with it today, and could barely get around 7 hours of battery on it today before it died. Turns out my sync settings were -way- overkill and I played with it. Now, I've let it charged and have had it sitting screen off with maybe 5 texts and installing the apk for the screenshot app. Otherwise, screen's been off just sitting there. Does my awake time seem really long? If so, how on earth do I get it down? A lot of my syncs are turned down and I run very few updater widgets.
Appreciate any advice here!
Have you tired changing the battery mode in the Battery and data manager?

Yeah, I set it to max power savings.
Sorry for the double post. I managed to tweak it a bit and got some better life out of it, but it still seems as if my awake time is way too high. Is the time at the bottom of the graph awake time or just the last time the graph updated?
I was in a 4G city today and used it barely, to get internet instead of fighting 3G (was at Heinz Field, lots of people so it took a while to connect). I also took a few pictures/sent some texts and a bit of Facebook, nothing too extensive. 4G was on for a total of maybe 5-10 minutes. This battery life isn't bad, but I feel like it could be much better if I can smack the awake time down. Also - what does the cellular bar mean? How do I interpret that?
Would appreciate any advice. I'm running the leaked maintenance release but it was like this even before so I don't believe this is the issue. I assume I'm going to have to reset it, but I figured I should ask before doing so... I'm not running any high-updated widgets/apps and I tuned everything down in Android settings so I have no idea what's wrong.

What is Causing Some Folks to Have Truly Horrible Battery Life?

Because Im seriously curious... This phone has a rap of being "atrocious" in terms of battery life... Now I'm not making this post to be mean or anything, In fact I really do want to know what IS causing it or some theories.. and share one theory I have
But my personal experience really says otherwise, Tonight I set a new "record" on my One X+, 16 hours 28 minutes with 2 hours 43 minutes screen on time... And I didnt do anything "extreme" to achieve it, My Google Now is on, my location services are on, autosync is enabled.. About the only thing I have done is install JuiceDefender (My previous record without Juice Defender was about 15-something hours) I watched youtube videos, Read some websites, listened to music, and even played some games... I'm completely stock, no roms or anything
Now, I will note, I had a problem the other day where my battery killed itself, FAST.. After a bit of digging around and tweaking, I discovered the cause was that my One X+ wasnt entering Deep Sleep, and thus the processor was staying at 475mhz or so even when the screen was locked (Causing the battery to be drained like i was using it) What caused this? My Wi-Fi, of all things, While I had a really good signal, I had it prioritizing the 5.8ghz radio, and in my room, the 5.8ghz signal is fairly weak as im a ways from my router... so the phone was switching between it and the 2.4ghz signal, causing the phone to be unable to sleep, Removing the 5.8ghz AP from my phone fixed the issue completely and my phone returned to "normal" behavior...
Yeah i know it sounds really farfetched and weird, and took me a bit of googling to get the idea that this might be what was causing my issue (I tested my hypothesis by turning Wi-Fi off completely and using Cell data, Sure enough my phone slept like a baby and barely used any battery.. i flipped Wi-Fi on and suddenly the phone was drinking its battery down rapidly.. I disabled the 5.8ghz AP and suddenly the phone worked 100% properly again)
I suspect that this is the cause behind some folks who are saying their phone is draining down 7% in 20 minutes with it locked, Its simply not entering deep sleep, the processor is doing something in the background... Could some of them be having the problem i just described? Its possible, Especially if you have multiple Wi-Fi points in your house.. Could the wi-fi in the One X+ be bugged? I dunno, Thats possible to, Thats why I'm posting this...
Now of course some people need a phone that is going to go for 2-3 days without a charge, and no, this isnt the phone for you (There arent many smartphones out there that can manage that if you actually USE it any) But really.. 16 hours with 3 hours of screen on time is pretty darn good.. Thats getting quite close to my Galaxy Nexus with a 3500mah Extended Battery (Around 18h standby, 3.5-4 hours screen on) despite all of the "handicaps" the One X+ has over the simple GNex (Like LTE and a Quad Core processor) and is vastly better than my stock Galaxy Nexus battery which died constantly...
And yes, heres a screenshot as proof if you dont believe me...
I just want to add that I find that googlenow also drains the battery and as such I always disable it. It was a problem on my S2 and thus I have disabled it on my HOX+
Honestly, mine wasn't lasting longer than 8 hours until I rooted it and simply "froze" all of the AT&T apps I wasn't using. That alone gave me an extra 2-3 hours a day of battery life! (I've read here that the AT&T apps, even if you aren't using them, keep running in the background) The other thing that seems to help is an app called Smart WiFi toggler that's done wonders for both myself and everyone else I know who uses it in terms of minimizing WiFi battery usage.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sebouh00.smartwifitoggler&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zZWJvdWgwMC5zbWFydHdpZml0b2dnbGVyIl0.
I'm sure other folks have other tips, but this has been the winning combo for me.
I should add that i also froze every ATT app i could and never opened ANY of them.. So maybe thats part of it as well..
JuiceDefender i believe is doing something similar for me with the Wi-Fi by turning it off when its not needed...
My battery life was terrible when I first got this phone. I let it charge out completely once this month and I've been using LBE Security Master. Those two things have greatly extended my battery so much I have been able to go more than a day with it before charging. Another factor might be that my phone isn't carrier branded or anything.
The "My Wi-Fi isnt letting my phone enter deep sleep" thing is actually starting to get annoying, I thought i fixed it but it keeps coming back...and yes, it is legitimately killing my battery at twice the normal rate because the phone will -not- enter deep sleep
My phone goes into deep sleep just fine if i turn Wi-Fi off...and my battery drain returns to normal....So it cant be some app downloading stuff or constantly pinging the internet or else it would do the same thing when im on LTE...
Also i've reset the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option to never 20 times now, it keeps going back to "always" on me...
Ideas?
My battery life is ok. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2067143
Mine is too, Provided i turn Wi-Fi off or i get the bug to go away for a bit (basically toggling wi-fi on and off a few times and twiddling with the settings makes it work right, but the problem comes back minutes or hours later)
Otherwise, Wi-Fi wont let my phone enter deep sleep, and my battery drains like im using it..
The thing thats annoying me more is that the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" setting will not stay where i set it and keeps going back to the default setting....
I guess i can just toggle wi-fi on and off manually...

Vbus_wake_lock wakelock keeping the phone awake

Hello everyone,
I've been following these forums every now and then and was very helpful when I encounter some minor problems so far.
But lately I start having a very strange problem on my mom's phone which is a Samsung Galaxy Win (i8552- stock rom- android 4.1.2) and couldn't really find a decent solution or a good explanation so far. So I decided to ask you guys.
The problem is phone is having a bit poor bettery life overall, especially while in idle. I found out most of the times it is losing 2-3% battery per hour while idling (i.e overnight). Sometimes it's slightly more 1% per hour and sometimes between 0.5-1% (which sounds more normal).
While in idle usually Androis OS seems eating up the battery around 50-60%. I disabled most of the notifications, most of the sync options (especially google ones), all kinds of screen sounds, facebook update intervals, uninstalled Avast and also disabled the location access. But these changes didn't really give a noticable difference. Battery drain inconsistency was still there.
After I noticed this strange battery drain I decided to digging it up a bit more and installed GSM Battery and wakelock detector.
Firs that I noticed in GSM battery is that the phone is awake for like 1.5 hours out of 7-8 hours of overnight idling. And Android OS kernel seemed responsible for this. But couldn't really get more clues.
Then I found more clues on the culprit in Wakelock Detector under "kernel wakelocks" tab. Which is vbus_wake_lock wakelock.
WD shows vbus_wake_lock is awake for almost an hour after the last charge, which was 7 hours ago.
After I found this I googled around a bit but couldn't really found a useful explanation except it might be caused by an apple charger. But I know that mom's using the original samsung charger.
I tried rebooting to see if it helps. It's been almost 4 hours now, phone lost around 2% battery which seems ok-ish but the vbus_wake_lock is still there with 25 minutes of awake.
So any idea. What should I do to hunt this wakelock down?
I don't really want to make her worried about her phone though, she seems happy with it, since she is playing some games and charging it every day so not really having a battery issues. But I know that there's something wrong here and I want to fix it.
So I desperately need your helps guys.
Thanks a lot.
Sorry for my English btw, as it's not my native.
Best,

Smartswitch Option Missing?

Hello
I've recently been experiencing some very power battery life, losing like 11% during the night without touching the phone, so I have looking for solutions and none of them are working, I installed Gsam and it shows that "WIFI Active" drains a lot of battery and my device is held awake for like 1hr25mins through the night, that is without touching it in 4hrs. Tell me if this is normal or i'm just freaking out but I feel like it shouldn't be held awake for that long. Anyway I used to get pretty good battery life like 1 day and around 5hrs SOT, with some optimizations managed to get 9hrs of SOT with just less than a day of battery life,... but after the recent two updates U2COIK and now U3QOJ5, things have been really bad. Now since I saw WIFI sucking the most I decided to change some settings, but noticed something weird with this build I can't find "SmartSwitch" setting under WIFI like I had before, which has led me to think that it might be on by default and sucking my battery... does anyway with the build i have still have the SmartSwitch feature?? And any help with regaining my good battery life would be much appreciated, just not yet ready to trip my Knox.
Thank you

NOUGAT battery problem

As you can see on the attached photo, my phone drains a lot more battery between 23:00 and 9:00 - over 5% per hour, before Nougat it drained 5% all night
I thought it was because I set "do not disturb"for that period, but it does the same without, I did a factory reset, problem stays
I took OFF most permissions, I dont have any new apps or settings that I know
Same thing was happening to me as well. Tried factory reset several times. The thing that worked for me (at least for now) is reflashing stock rom once again via LG Bridge. Just try update error recovery.
Edit: I have an international H960a variant.

Did it, lets see how it goes tonight, thanks :good:
Mine sometimes eats 0% whole night, but sometimes it eats 20% in 3 hours at night. I have no idea what is going on
It is ridiculous, between 14:00 and 23:00 (-9h on the screenshot) it used 22% battery, and I was using the phone moderately, calls, chrome, whatsapp, SMS, etc...
From 23:00 to 08:00 it used 48%, just sitting on the bedside table second screen OFF
I didnt have Do Not Disturb, just second screen OFF
I dont know why the image doesnt show, posted again with a link instead also dont know why I cannot delete this post

Tonite just on the bedside table face down, nothing set, nor "do not disturb", nor second screen off, 55% 9 hours
BATTERY USE DETAILS only shows apps using 15%, what used the other 85%
Bad batterY?
Bad battery would drain a lot during the day too
Try this, goto settings>apps> click the 3 dot menu in the top right hand corner, reset app preferences. It helped mine, not a whole lot but it helped. Some apps will ask permission again when opened. Android System is my main battery drain.
I had an hunch, left the phone in the living room, face up, second screen on all night, it drained only 1% per hour
In the bedroom with face down, second screen off, it used 6% per hour
Wifi is the same, I use an internet radio as alarm, and it works fine, so it must be something related to signal strength, any ideas
A bad cell signal for example can add significantly to battery consumption. I.e., frequently dropping or low signal will make the phone search for other cells again and again.
Also, did you try disabling the 2nd screen via battery saving? Because if the phone lies face done, a sensor will disable it. Maybe that sensor can also add to battery drain.

Tonite I will test with "Do not disturb" and second screen OFF from 23:00 to 9:00. Then tomorrow wifi OFF in the bedroom
Please keep us posted. I'm invested in this matter myself a great deal
My battery drain is rather constant though. Very strange that it's so inconsistent with your device.
Thanks for testing

I work in IT, time to put my experience to service
With "Do not disturb" and second screen OFF from 23:00 to 9:00 it used less than 1% per hour, as it should :good:
Tonite I will test WIFI OFF in the bedroom
Thanks for letting us know! The more I read about this, the more confused I get -_-
What you could also try is setting up some apps that can track down wakelocks, e.g. Better Battery Stats or Wakelock Detector. Might be that there is some services running that sometimes keep your phone from sleeping.
If it works properly you seem to get pretty decent ratings with your device though!

I dont believe the problem is with WIFI, but I have to test everything, to be sure what is the problem, at the moment I pend to something to do with network access, we will know soon
Well, tonite, in the bedroom, 5% per hour again, it is not WIFI, "Do not disturb" nor second screen for sure
The bedroom is next to the living-room, both have windows facing south, only a thin interior wall separating them, so it doesnt make sense that the network signal would be different enough to use that much battery
On the other hand, I noticed yesterday that location was ON, I always have it OFF, so I reset to OFF for last night. This morning set it ON again, and it started using less battery, so tonite I will test with location ON :fingers-crossed:
Dude i had battery saving on all the time and it eat few % at night. Now i turned power saving off and it eat 0% battery in sleep lol
