We'd like to power up off-the-shelf (rooted?) Android tablets without using the power button. Can it be done externally, through the USB port? We have the tablet connected to a control box that provides charging/running power to the tablet. We want to ONLY have to turn on the control box to get the entire system up and running. Assume battery in tablet is dead, too. Thanks in advance!

I've got a Chinese tablet that boots properly up to the unlock screen, where if I'm quick I can unlock, I can see wifi is connected, etc. but around that point it completely freeze, even the power button doesn't turn off the creen and I have to reset it by long pressing the power button.
I tried all combinations of keys to bring up a recovery (power + volumes) without luck so far. If I press any volume or back key while powering up, the tablet doesn't power up and stays black. adb isn't finding the tablet. I opened the tablet, there are pins to connect a rx/tx serial. I could do connect a serial adapter to it if that could be of any help.
Actually, at this point I don't care much about the tablet but that could be a good opportunity to start learning a bit more about Android hardware development, just don't know exactly where to start.
Any tip?
Hi
I'm trying to embed a generic Android tablet (4.4) into a console. Since it's physical power button is on its side and this area won't be accessible I need to find a different method to power on / off the device and provide the power button functionality from outside.
I initially thought about installing an outer button, disassemble the tablet, and solder the wires instead of the current button but there must be a different option.
The tablet has its usb socket. Is there a way to utilize that in order to connect a button through USB and using it?
When plugged in it shows the battery percentage at 99% but I can't seem to get it to power on via the power button.
If you can't find a button remapping app that will allow you to use a volume button to turn it on, plugging it into a pc usb port turns it on. The power button ribbon might not actually be damaged. It could have either slid out of position, or that area could just need cleaned. Its not overly complicated to open it up
Hello,
recently the power button stopped working properly on my UMI zero phone.
1.) I am looking for a solution to remap the power button function to a different key. (for example volume down or up key) - The phone should be able to be powered up by the remapped key when powered off by low battery etc.
If not possible to remap the key completely
2.) A autostart function would solve this problem too. for example when a charger is connected to the phone. I just want to avoid any lockout situation where my battery drains and I am not able to power the phone up anymore.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Any Ideas? Power Button stopped working completely now.
I have an Android smartphone that I currently cannot power on past the charge screen... The power and volume buttons are broken.
How do I power on the device to get to my apps, home screen, etc (past the charging screen)?
Can I use the other smartphone that I have to access the phone with the broken power and volume buttons?
Thanks
