With the news that Google was considering Double Twist to launch the camera and abandoned it, I for one was very disappointed. My wife is moving from a moto x to a 5X and will really miss that feature. It is soooo much easier to do than double tap and works while you have the screen on unlike the double tap.
So what does everyone else think? Am I alone or are you also upset Google went with the double tap option?
The thread initially got moved and then moved back so I'm one time bumping it to get a true initial look for people.
I'd like to give it a go, I don't see the harm in including it as an option, if people don't want to use it they wouldn't have to.
Double tap of the power button works with the screen on too. But I'd like to try the twist

Coming from the 2013 moto x, it was a great option.
Old project, but I have been using this "alpha" app for over a year now on all different phones including my 6p

I was not sure about the double tap on the power button to get to camera. I do like it now. Its quick and I am able to catch shots I would have not got on my old phone with it. I am interested in the double shake as an alternative.
Old phone was an LG g2 and it had the typical swipe to camera deal but it was kinda of slow b/c you had to look at your phone to get it going.

And it's far more reliable than the method on the Moto X. With my X, sometimes it wouldn't register to launch the camera.

never bothered to notice because i charge my phone every night. but its almost none in my experience.
You can double-press the power button to launch the camera, regardless if the screen is on, off, locked, unlocked, etc.
So, it's simply a matter of preference. Both launch it likely as fast.
back up. now that the tap to wake function has been found, i wonder if enabling a hidden setting to bring back twist to camera is in there somewhere.
Used it all the time on my Moto X. The best though was the dedicated camera button on my Lumia 1520.

Right, the reason I have started this thread is, I see some discomfort using Back capacitive button. I am not complaining that buttons don't respond to touch, they do. All 3 of them.
Let me give you an example: I am playing with the phone, doing something on the screen. After, let's say few minutes, I want to go back, so I touch Back button, but it does not respond. I press few more times and eventually it registers. Some people would say "hit and miss" or "there is an issue with capacitive buttons". I say no, because I am touching it there, where I supposed to, also once it start registering, every time I press it, it registers (I have haptic feedback on, so I know it works). I have problems only, when I am not touching capacitive buttons for some time.
I hope I explained this well. I think this is, what in some reviews has been described as "hit and miss" or "capacitive buttons not register". Do you have the same problem? If yes, why is that happening? Is it software or hardware?
I don't have this problem because I realised that the most sensitive and best working area
for left/right button isactually in the inside space rather than exactly on those little points.
So once I press slightly to the middle, it works. It requires also a little longer press.
Ok, I will try that.
I do agree on the buttons. Probably the only thing to get used to, but one you do, no phone like it period! This is sick an amazing phone it is rediculous
The back button on my phone @ left corner is actually the best out of the three. and maybe I feel the same way about the middle "HOME" button where it registers little higher than the other two. actually I have hit it few times accidentally while I was trying to push the space bar on keyboard.
But every time I felt the haptic feedback, button worked.
I am happy with the performance of the buttons. It seems like they work like the power and eject buttons on the PS3. They respond when you remove your finger.

The only thing I have to get used to...
Almost no extra hits anymore...
One touch is most of the times correct registered :-(

Right, so by looks of it, there is no issue. Something I have to get used to. Thanks a lot guys. I also hope it will help future buyers as well.
I have not had any problems with the capacitive buttons so far and tbh i prefer them to hardware buttons like on the arc/play etc
No problems here. They are better than the one's on a Samsung galaxy s2.
I used to have a Nexus One and the buttons are similar to that, you sort of have to roll/slide your finger upwards on the button ever so slightly.
I barely notice it but I know what you mean.
I find that if you aim just slightly to the middle of the screen rather than on the dots then it works great

How can you be serious? I have both, and as perfect as the Xperia S is as an upgrade, its capacitive buttons are not as sharp and fool proof..that's my only gripe ...
Example situation of problem:
Right after finishing recording a decent length FullHD video, pressing home or back needs to be done repeatedly to register (MOST of the time).
Not a deal breaker, but I so hope this is software related..
I have the same issue but after one day of owning this phone im learning where to press to get a response first time
Posted with my Sony Xperia S
Well I started off doing the "pressing above the dots" thing, until I noticed you could also swipe them (I swipe from the transparent bar up)....now I'm used to swiping them and never have any problem
I'm liking the swiping method, its impossible to miss and well..it's kinda fun for some reason

Yeah, that works very well. Thanks.
I am just glad we have sorted it out and it turned out it is not a software or hardware issue. After reading some advises, my phone cooperates with me much better.
I have to say, that this LG G2 is the first phone that i felt like, "wow, they really thought and tinkered with most of the issues i have with big screen andriod phone"
to list a few,
1. Battery! I love it. 5 hours of streaming Pandora on Speaker phone at work site, and BT tethering for couple of hours. and 4 hours on on screen time.. i'm left with 40% at the end of day...
2. One Hand keyboard. DUH!!!! why it took so long for someone to figure this out!?!?!?
3. numbers on keyboard. !!! DUH!!! we have big screen.. why don't others have this factory before? why SWIFTKEY don't???
4. LOCK pattern locate on touch location. so simple yet so good.
5.. double tap to wake. FANTASTIC.
6 Back buttons.. took me 1/2 day to get use to buttons and learn to feel them. this deserves innovation award by itself!!!!
7. CAMERA that actually takes good photos!!! (HTC TOO but hey)
8 Wireless Storage.. makes life so simple when its just done for you!
9. Works with Klipsch S4 headphones.. Vol, Mic, select.. all works!!!! Samsung never worked
10. IR Blaster
11. Brightness adjustment. Your Auto is not my Ideal Auto brightness. ADJUSTABLE Baseline!!
12. Front touch button - notification pull down... crazy good. my thumb ain't that long.. and this is perfect!

I couldn't agree more. You can gripe about the plastic casing, maybe. Other than that, LG knocked it out of park. The negative reviews are asinine. It's their opinion, that's mine
I was a little bummed/tricked by the single speaker even though it looks like there are two but no biggie. Completely agree with the rest! ?

#8 can be achieved with any phone using Samba filesharing app.
Just saying
Can #9 be confirmed? And is it referring to the S4i's or S4a's because to my knowledge the regular S4's don't have any buttons.
Edit: #9!! Meant to say #9.

Actually, 1 is bigger on the s notes, but I'm not sure about them being better.
2 is already available
3 Yep
4 No idea what you meant
5 Already on windows phone
6 I've thought of this since 3 years ago and LG actually came up with it. It's great, but it has some downs.
7 Hell yes
8 Yeaa
9 N/A
10 Already on S4 etc
11 iPhone has it, if I'm not wrong.
12 This is really good, but I have big hands so not gonna use it much. The customisability is good for people coming from sammy.
13 There is actually built in screen off animations, like CRT, which almost all cyanogenmods use.
14 You can choose unlock animation, which is cool imo. I love the white hole animation.
15 Awesome notification lights. On front and back, so whether it's face up or face down you get the message.
16 Aspect ratio correction. Because the screen is actually 1080 x 1770 or something like that because of the on screen buttons, LG thought it'll be useful.
17 Quiet mode. Is it on any other phones? I think it's really useful.
The G2 is probably the most customisable phone on stock software out there. Love or hate, your call.
Cyanogen was my first taste I got of Quiet hours and I really missed it on TouchWiz so I was happy to see it here.
These things may be on other phones and/or available with apps but it is pretty dang nice to get them from the start in one package.

2) Note line (probably others)
3) Note line again. Not sure why 3rd party keyboards don't have an option for this. I love a number row.
4) New afaik(actually nice since if you do it in different spots it doesn't leave a grease trail showing your pattern)
5) New and cool
6) Meh. Not sure its a positive
7) Others have had 'good' but its one of the first implementations of OIS.
8) I think some people were saying this is a JB feature.
9) err... ok
10) been there, done that.
11) That is really nice. Haven't seen it before
12) You mean changing the soft buttons?
The g2 puts a lot of good ideas together, but its not terribly innovative all on its own. At least its better than samsungs "you can make a video wall out of note 3's!" Lol.
#11 !!!!!!
thanks for pointing this out!... I like the concept of auto-brightness. especially when I turn it on at night to look at something, but auto brightness has ALWAYS made the screen too dim for me. Been waiting for someone to implement this setting forever!
I like the phone a lot too... minus the software. LG really killed the experience with all the unnecessary clutter features. Anxiously awaiting the CM treatment!
+Brad Piff Why do you say "minus the software"? What don't you like about the software? I am thinking about getting the G2.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
I had a Nexus4 running CM before this (R.I.P), so you kinda get a feel for what my preferences are. CM is powerful but simple.
For one, there's a lot of bloat software on the G2... granted that's with any phone you get from a provider. I'm not a fan of how LG did all the setting menus... being so accustomed to stock Android. The dialer is nice. I don't like how the front touch home button works (long hold for app switching, short hold+swipe for Google Now) and the far right button being Settings. I don't like the Notification pull down window... I want it to be clean, but it has Screen Brightness/Phone Volume built in.

Thankfully most of the gripes the majority of people have with the stock software bloat can be removed by mods and/or custom ROM we already have available. The only thing we cant really get around at this time if the menu button issue. Many probably wont care though coming from other phones with a physical menu button still anyway, but those of us who got used to the stock Android feel since ICS are now missing the way menu is supposed to work.
What custom ROMs do you speak of? I've only seen one really.

I know some of the features been on other phone or on custom ROMS's but the combination make it great for me.
I should mention the down sides though.. all the crappy stock apps, are memory hog.
Message app still needs work. keyboard and message box take up most of the view
BLOAT BLOAT AND MORE BLOAT!!!
This phone has a built-in flash light accessible via widget. I had seen it in TiBu bit couldn't know how to launch it until just now when I went rummaging through the widget list. Now if we could just add it as a toggle in the notification area! Another great easter egg!

hi i like this phone but without double take to wake i wont buy it.
it doesnt have the 4g b20 800mhz. i could live with that.. but i really cant live without double tap to wake i have a lg g3. and every chinees phone i buy has it. so for me it's a standard
Your can wakeup by fingerprint sensor. It was the best.
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk
U can also use the proximity sensor, it's faster than fingerprint and dt2w and eats nearly zero battery.
i was tempted to port it but after getting used to the fingerprint i guess its not really necessary
hum. my phone is always laying on the table next to my pc. so it's pretty annoying to have to lift up the phone to see if i have notifications. (i mean to read them)
i have LG phone and i can't live without double tap to wake. i mso used to the back buttons so a finger print scanner on the back is nice but no dt2w is stupid i mean i dont always have my phone in my hand. so if i want to wake it up i just double tap, but without that i need to lift up the phone or press the side power button dont know it seems pretty annoying for me.
i had a doogee f5 great phone but i use more double tap to wake then a finger print scanner i mostly turned it off cause i hate passwords only use it when im not at home. but soo yeah without double tape to wake this xiaomi is a no for me every 'f:iking chinees phone has double tap to wake even 50$ ones
why can't a 160euro xiaomi have it ilove xiaomi it's quality but yeah no 800mhz 4g and no double tap. if it had double tap to wake i could consider buying it.
so no rom has it implanted? or some one made it?
Seriously! I have redmi note 3 and i miss this feature a lot, even just to read notifications i need to hold up the phone and press power button or fingerprint scanner. Now many would argue and say there are apps like active display/gravity screen/proximity sensors but they all consume some amount of battery. Also these apps would be user apps, not system ones and so would be killed by miui Aggressive battery saver mode.

I had posted this in miui forums, but got the same vague response. Even though mi4 and others had this feature, it's missing on note3. Everyone considers it redundant due to the fingerprint sensor at the back but to me it removing dt2w would have only made sense if the fingerprint sensor was on front. From the looks of it, guess xiaomi won't be adding this feature back anytime soon. Till then we could just hope that someone somewhere ports it rn3.

And wierd the mi4 has it. (saw the miui forum reeded every page) snif guess the remdi note won't be my next phone or will it? hahaa
damit i love the battery life. and the 'openess' of xiaomi/miui with sources aviable etc. i think it will get some custom roms. even if miui is already great.
i can get used to no double tap but i will miss it... and still hope some one ou xiaomi will implant it.. the 4g b20 pff not sure if i really do care that much.
but can some one tell me how dark the lowest brightness is? is it lower then a lg g3? or is it lower then a oneplusone (lg g3 is pretty bright a 0% that's not always fun, oneplusone was great at 0% very dark)
I used fingerprint sensor to wakeup by second finger. I found it was excellent.

Short answer that it's likely not.
If you'll look at in which models Xiaomi is used to implement this feature you'll notice it only appears for the (premium?) MI lineup models.
Redmi phones hasn't ever had this feature in Xiaomi OEM ROMs/kernels despite hardware support. So, it is unlikely that it will ever come to RMN3 Pro in OEM ROM.
However, should someone have implemented it in a custom kernel, it is rather simple task to make it available in the Settings app through a patch.

but it's stupid cause every cheap mediatek phone has double tap to wake and xiaomi nope, just a big middel finger but anyway it's a great phone for it's price (i hope)

Use Gravity Screen https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree
Then just swipe over the proximity sensor and the screen turns on, no battery drain and you can disable/enable it with one tap in the status bar
Please note this is my first thread and not dwelling deep in to the techs of the phone.
Amazon kindly delivered my Xperia 10 Plus this morning and like a little child at Xmas, couldn't wait to unpack and power on.
Now my current status is I have been running on Xperia XZ Premium for last 18 months and decided to see what the deal is with the larger screen X10 plus.
First glance, it's tall, big a just a tad slimmer, suppose that'll be for the one hand use.
Installation of micro sd card and memory card a breeze and since I opted for the dual sim, the sim tray can handle 2 sims easily.
Pros
OS seems to be quicker but the boot up time isn't
Camera capture has improved compared to XZP and will need to check this tomorrow on daylight
The little widgets like side sense is a good way to use phone on handed
handset in one hand feels comfortable and very light but still purchased a case for the phone for the additional protection
Cons
Took a while to remove the google search bar on home screen as OS 9 seems to do this differently when it comes to removing (had to Google it)
Charging time does take a little longer in my experience but this could be down to battery care and stamina
You can't customise what screen is your home screen so if you have 3 screens, 1st screen is your home screen, This is issue for me since I like my icons/apps setup in a way makes to easier for me. Could possibly not be setting the home screen correctly
Had a strange issue with restore from my Google account and it placed two icons for each app downloaded so ended up factory reset and seems to resolve the issue
All in all, still early days as not much time to fiddle with the phone as I required to setup again and juggle the icons on home screen as sadly this didn't do on backup from old phone.
I'll add more comments when I have managed to play with the phone more.
Thanks.
Well, been a few days using the phone and so far had the following as issues or switched off.
1. Camera seems to crash twice on use where app opens but buttons doesn't respond until you have the crash notification. Albeit camera quality is very good compared to XZP.
2. Switched off the Swipe up on home button as it seemed to get messed up with me wanting to access all apps from swiping up from the bottom of phone.
3. As someone else mentioned before, games touch screen buttons not optimised as some games buttons are low right side and makes it very awkward to use when playing.
4. Couple of times you press an icon on app and doesn't seem to launch or takes a while to do anything. One app i remember is launching the messenger app for FB from the FB app. Did sod all and restarted handset to fix it.
I would take some quality pics but where I live is a bit trashy so nothing good atm and will wait for weather to improve.
Just hope others who have the same phone report on same issues for Sony to fix
anyone know how to get the "recent apps" button to show up on the nav bar? I dont see one anywhere, or, how to enable it

I think you need to open the Xperia Launcher settings. Just hold down your finger on one of the homescreens. The 2nd or 3rd option should give you the old navbar back
thanks, but there is no mention of navbar anywhere in the Xperia Launcher settings..:crying:

My bad it's in the display settings under advanced. "Swipe up on home button". Don't have my phone right now, had to send it in so i couldn't say for sure. Thought it was hidden quite well :/
perfect, thanks!

Camera2 API Probe reported no.
I have no issues with my Sony Xperia 10 Plus after 4 months so far. It's fast and smooth in my use. I can take great pictures and videos. 21:9 experience is great and amazing!
How is battery life and sot?
I'm seriously considering this phone as an upgrade. I'm in Asia so models here come with 6gb of ram. I'm currently on the z5 premium. Would you say there is any improvement in performance between the xz premium and the 10 plus?

Performance on XZ premium is better compared with Xperia 10 plus. Xperia 10 plus is sluggish en general use. I think there is a problem with the launcher optimization. The only way that i founded to acelerate the smartphone is to deactivating "Animations". After that, the Xperia 10 plus beahvior, results in a great performance, smooth. If you install a 3rd party launcher, the sluggish problem appears again. This phone definitively needs software optimization from Sony. I waiting android 10 fix this situation. I want to highlight that the sound quality from bluetooth is amazing, i thinl is better that xz premium, XZ2. I dont know if Sony increase the audio quality in this model.
I bought this phone yesterday from best buy and to me what a pile of junk, the screen just above the power button actually is separating from the plastic frame, I hear faint pop like sound and I start pressing on the edge of the screen I heard the sound again, on further inspection looks like the adhesive tape they must use to attach the screen to the frame is letting loose from the main frame, this thing is slow and very sluggish. I would advise people not to buy this phone, for the price..... you can buy a older flagship phone or even a oneplus 6t or 6 for less used and runs circles around this sony phone.
Power button is no longer next to my thumb.
No finger print sensor on the rear means it's more of a hassle to turn the screen on.
Lack of Pressure sensitive home button is also missed.
New camera is awesome it must be said.
Battery about the same.
Any input or suggestions to help me deal with these drawbacks?
After a few days of use, I realize what a good decision it was to move the power button. I am right handed but hold phone in my left hand.
I felt the same about the fp sensor so I am using face unlock now and surprised how fast it works.
I am getting close to 7 hours of SoT which is about 1.5 - 2 hours more for me than the Note9.
Not sure if I can suggest anything for battery issue. I was getting the same before I debloated as I am getting now after debloating. However, this time around on Note10+ I got rid of a lot of Google apps and using MS apps instead. I know Chrome use to eat more battery than the Samsung Browser or IE and I started to get a lot of notifications about Maps using a lot of background battery.

I would have liked a regular finger print circle or a spot, but I don't need to turn on the screen for the finger print to unlock Note10.

Most of that you knew before buying. So why did you switch?

My thoughts exactly.
No complaints about the power button placement.
Only wish fingerprint sensor is as fast/responsive as it is on Note9
The wifi strength of my note 10 is significantly worse. My previous note 9 had a good signal in my bedroom or my floor ,but note's 10 signal is very frustrating as it is missing in these places at all.
Otherwise problems are all the above. I'm right handed so the effort to turn off the screen is frustrating.
An no heart rate sensor anymore!!
For those that don't like the power button on the left (and are right handed) just use your middle finger from the back of the phone to turn the screen off.
I use nova prime and have setup double tap = screen off so I hardly notice any more.

Interesting...is Nova Prime a theme?
As to the OP's post, you'll learn and discover the new stuffs. The only upside I've seen is the 12gig ram that makes it running smoother when it comes to using two apps.

Use double tap to wake, lift to wake, and fingerprint for turning on the screen
Install one handed operation+ , and you have a lot of options for turning off the screen, I use diagonal down long swipe for it. I rarely use the power button anymore, even on my note 9 i didn't use power button much.
fingerprint in front of device is way more useful. you just need to get used to it.
So, I just got a note 10+ yesterday. The hardware is impressive, but the software sucks sack. I'm extremely frustrated with EVERYTHING being tied to google play services on these newer devices. Disable apps = battery drain. Put apps to sleep = unwanted samsung apps running in the background. Modify system app permissions = battery drain. Touch google play services = battery drain. Can't even wipe the damn cache without a bunch of samsung garbage starting up in the background. This company went from samsung to samsux.

You have MORE battery drain after disabling/sleeping apps? That makes no sense. Do you have before & after battery logs to prove that?
What is your average SOT and standby time?
Google Play Services are always active, but do not significantly drain battery. All Android phones will have Google Play Services running in the background. If you don't want Google Play Services, then you get a phone that can be bootloader unlocked and flash something like LineageOS, which has Google Play Services stripped from the ROM.
I came from a Note 9 and no issues at all with my Note 10+. On Friday I was at 6 hours 45min sot and was at 50% ony battery.
Is it work the upgrade over the note 9? Why it is love and the new stuff is great it dapens on the price. I got mine from Best buy $300 off and $200 monthly credit. So that price went from $1,100 to $600. Is a $600 upgrade over the note 9 worth it? Absolutely. $1100 upgrade? God no.
My note 9 was no longer under warranty. Prices are dropping so now was the time. Sold that note 9 for $350. So in total $250 to get into my note 10+ when all is said and done. But that price will go up since I'll lose some of that $200 credit when I go with a note 20+ ultra. But I'll wait till best buy outs them on sale this time next year and do the same.
No complaints here. I love the note 10+.
Just work with it. With the fingerprint sensor and always on display you don't really need to use the power button other than to turn the screen off. The fingerprint sensor placement feels much more natural to me now and can turn on the screen.
the worse thing for me is no LED notification light. That apps trying to replicate this work sometimes...not others. And only for short periods due to screen burn. BRING BACK LED LIGHTS
