Running SD 6.0.1 with SD kernel 5.0.2 and I've flashed the 35B bootstack.
Phone calls, notifications, etc., all play fine through the speaker, and through the headphones. However, I cannot hear phone calls through the earpiece. Mic is working fine - the caller can hear me, but I can't hear them.
I've read about headphone jack issues, although I never use headphones. But I exercised the jack anyway. No luck. Tried wiping cache and Dalvik cache also.
Could this be software or is it most likely hardware?
Anything else to try?
To determine if it is a hardware issue try another ROM or simply restore your obligatory backup of the stock ROM. Report back. If it doesnt work on stock its most likely a hardware issue. If it does work on stock, its a ROM or kernel issue.
Haven't flashed back to stock yet, but I did clean flash XDABBEB's ROM. So I changed ROM, kernel, and got rid of xPosed. Still no sound from the earpiece. Probably hardware.
Edit: Restoring back to full stock made no difference. Warranty replacement is on the way.

hi guys i think i saw a thread or post before about this but i am not quite sure, and hate to post the same question that has been answered before but i couldnt find that.. anyways i am running straight up axura 2.3.1 and i noticed whenever i play music on it, i would only hear it on headphones/earphones but not on the phone speaker. any ideas?
thanks i appreciate the help alot
It is like stuck on headphone mode even headphone isnt plug. Ive odin back to stock, reflashed and nothing works
Edit. I dont have any system sound. i can hear alert sounds and all. hmmmmmmm any ideas?
Unless you have the speaker turned off (which I doubt) you may just have a bad flash I have this rom on my wife's phone and I just checked it works fine. So reflash is probably the easiest and fastest way to fix.

i reflashed and back to stock, flashed bionix, axura. still no media sound and system sound. i highly doubt its axura itself, since i flashed it a couple times before and had no/little bugs but not anything with the sound
edit: i was researching and found that somewhere between the line, it might be this issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991465
how can i flash that?
OK everyone. I have an issue with my vibrants ear speaker that you listen to people speak through. Sorry if there is already a posting on this but I was not able to find this specific issue anywhere. Here's the deal.
I woke up the other day and the ear speaker on my vibrant had stoped working. Everything else on the phone works. everything else. Even when i put it on speaker phone it works but not on the regular mode. I was running Bionix 1.3.1. I then used odin to restore it to stock and the same issue was present in the stock rom. Then I reflashed Bionix with the same issue.
I decided to try a different rom. I flashed SimplyGalaxy_RC3.2 and it worked. It fixed the speaker issue. I also tried a similar rom, XWJVB_i9000_Gingerbread__v.4.1 and it worked on that as well. No issues what so ever. I then took it back to stock to reflash bionix 1.3.1 and the issue came back on stock and on bionix 1.3.1. For some reason the ear speaker will only work on those 2 roms I've stated. I'm assuming its a software issue since it will work but I am stumped. Can Someone please Help Me?????? I've tried to redownload and flash bionix and stock incase they were corrupted filed but same issues.
Guys I have a severe problem with my phone. The thing is that the when i make or receive a call the audio is horrible, I mean it's like there is some weird vibration (as if there was something inside the phone speaker). Now the other speaker (for music) works perfect.
I got this while on CM7 (I've been using it for a month and never had an issue so I don0t think it's CM7 related. I'm on stock values (no UV/OC or anything, on stock CM7 kernel also).
I tried everything, I also flashed the original firmware with Odin and the problem persisted. Do you think it's a hardware issue and I have to get it to warranty?
Please help I'm going mad.
Thanks in advance.
Grrr, ok I've rooted my Galaxy Player wifi 4.0. I'm using Terrasilent 3.5 and Ethereal Rom 2.4. Everything has been running good the last week or so, but now my player has developed a snapping, crackle, popping noise coming through the speakers. Any time something makes a sound, this noise comes through the speakers. I can still hear the expected sound, but also the noise with it. I can drown it out by turning up the volume, but when there's no sound being played, it almost sounds like someone's cooking bacon inside my player. I've unrooted and gone back to stock, but still the noise is there. I re-rooted it and still the noise remains. Do you guys think this is a hardware problem? It's loud enough that it's very annoying and noticeable. I would think if it was software related it would have gone away after going back to stock. Any advice how to fix this would be appreciated.
It sounds like a hardware problem to me, but you could do a full restore (see Zaclimon's full recovery thread) to make sure. I have a similar hardware problem - I hear a feint hissing sound, but only when it is very quiet around me.

Yah I'm thinking it's hardware too. I actually used Zaclimons full recovery thread to put it back to stock and it still made this noise. And this noise is loud enough I can hear it from across the room.
Now I'm not totally newbiish, but there's a lot I don't know about how the rooting and recovery works. When I root it and install the new kernel and rom or doing a full recovery back to stock, does it completely wipe every piece of data off the player? I know it wipes out all program settings and personal data, but does it get rid of everything else. I wonder this because I was looking at upgrading to ICS, but there's a big warning about backing up efs. Why don't I have to worry about the efs getting wiped when doing new roms or going back to recovery?

Doing a "full" recovery will wipe all data and return you to exactly what your device was when you bought it. It won't touch certain elements, like the boot loader and the efs. The efs has device specific info and is required for your lock screen and other features so it is empirical that you back it up yourself before flashing cm9 (cm9 has a bug that wipes it). Normal GB ROMs shouldn't mess up your efs, but you might want to back it up to be safe before flashing one.

Dose the same noise come through on your earphones?
Well on ethereal, hanthesolo boosted the output on I believe both the headphones/speakers. He also boosted the bass response with the beats mod too. Did you try switching to IcyFusion to see what happens?
Hey.
I've got an issue that comes & goes with my SGSIII.
I use UltimaROM v16 and Boeffla 5.1 Kernel, and have tried reflashing with no luck.
I experience the distorted voice on calls periodically. Some calls just work perfectly, some just doesn't.
When it does occur, it's almost distorted to the point, where I can't hear what people say. The problem is consistent with or without headset.
Occassionally I start out a conversation with the distortion being really bad (the problem is only on my end). Then, after a few minutes of conversation, it disappears, and the quality is perfectly fine again.
Really strange.
I work as a journalist, which means frequent phone interviewing. Thus, I really depend on being able to hear what people say over the phone when working.
After searching for some answers on the board, I found some users recommending flashing a new modem/RIL.
Problem is: I don't know the first thing about which modem/RIL is right for my phone.
I ran GetRIL and it said "Baseband: I9300XXUGMK6" and "Unknown RIL"
So.. is this still a modem/RIL-thing?
If so, which one should I use, and which modems & RILs fit together?
Please help a new Samsung flash-o-holic out!
Thanks,
Thorm
I'm gonna do a cwm backup & flash a new ROM tonight, just for trial & error.
The ROM: XROM V1.0.3

Try to use your phone some days with GSM network and see if the issue persist. I faced this issue earlier.
Also try to change your Kernel and see if the issue persist.
Lastly if this not solved. Visit sammobile, check the appropriate firmware and flash the original firmware. Avoid using custom ROM as you are heavily depended on the phone.
