Grrr, ok I've rooted my Galaxy Player wifi 4.0. I'm using Terrasilent 3.5 and Ethereal Rom 2.4. Everything has been running good the last week or so, but now my player has developed a snapping, crackle, popping noise coming through the speakers. Any time something makes a sound, this noise comes through the speakers. I can still hear the expected sound, but also the noise with it. I can drown it out by turning up the volume, but when there's no sound being played, it almost sounds like someone's cooking bacon inside my player. I've unrooted and gone back to stock, but still the noise is there. I re-rooted it and still the noise remains. Do you guys think this is a hardware problem? It's loud enough that it's very annoying and noticeable. I would think if it was software related it would have gone away after going back to stock. Any advice how to fix this would be appreciated.
It sounds like a hardware problem to me, but you could do a full restore (see Zaclimon's full recovery thread) to make sure. I have a similar hardware problem - I hear a feint hissing sound, but only when it is very quiet around me.

Yah I'm thinking it's hardware too. I actually used Zaclimons full recovery thread to put it back to stock and it still made this noise. And this noise is loud enough I can hear it from across the room.
Now I'm not totally newbiish, but there's a lot I don't know about how the rooting and recovery works. When I root it and install the new kernel and rom or doing a full recovery back to stock, does it completely wipe every piece of data off the player? I know it wipes out all program settings and personal data, but does it get rid of everything else. I wonder this because I was looking at upgrading to ICS, but there's a big warning about backing up efs. Why don't I have to worry about the efs getting wiped when doing new roms or going back to recovery?

Doing a "full" recovery will wipe all data and return you to exactly what your device was when you bought it. It won't touch certain elements, like the boot loader and the efs. The efs has device specific info and is required for your lock screen and other features so it is empirical that you back it up yourself before flashing cm9 (cm9 has a bug that wipes it). Normal GB ROMs shouldn't mess up your efs, but you might want to back it up to be safe before flashing one.

Dose the same noise come through on your earphones?
Well on ethereal, hanthesolo boosted the output on I believe both the headphones/speakers. He also boosted the bass response with the beats mod too. Did you try switching to IcyFusion to see what happens?

hi guys i think i saw a thread or post before about this but i am not quite sure, and hate to post the same question that has been answered before but i couldnt find that.. anyways i am running straight up axura 2.3.1 and i noticed whenever i play music on it, i would only hear it on headphones/earphones but not on the phone speaker. any ideas?
thanks i appreciate the help alot
It is like stuck on headphone mode even headphone isnt plug. Ive odin back to stock, reflashed and nothing works
Edit. I dont have any system sound. i can hear alert sounds and all. hmmmmmmm any ideas?
Unless you have the speaker turned off (which I doubt) you may just have a bad flash I have this rom on my wife's phone and I just checked it works fine. So reflash is probably the easiest and fastest way to fix.

i reflashed and back to stock, flashed bionix, axura. still no media sound and system sound. i highly doubt its axura itself, since i flashed it a couple times before and had no/little bugs but not anything with the sound
edit: i was researching and found that somewhere between the line, it might be this issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991465
how can i flash that?
My earpiece volume is LOW.
I turn it all the way up and its till hard to hear.
Happened after a flash of some rom/kernel combo.
Not sure which one.
I have tried LouderVolumeHack, to no avail. I've also tried DSP
My ringer/noti/speaker phone are plenty loud.
Only the earpiece is low.
My current rom/kernel is: WTSB 1.9 with Latest Tiamat
So is there something I can pull and change or anything?
Thanks
It could be the audio settings in the rom. I have been using the audio files from infected rom on my roms and they work great, seems better than stock. I had the same problem as you a while back, I dont remember what rom it was on.
What files are those?
I was using an Infected ROM before.
Had a few issues, but love it anyway.
still here
I flashed MiUI 1.10.14 and still low sound.
Nobody knows where i can find the audio files to mess with?
I use the etc/soundimage file from infected along with the AdieHWCodec.csv, AIC3254_REG.csv, AIC3254_REG_DualMic.csv, and CodecDSPID.txt. Those all seem to container audio stuff. You might also check lib files. The rom that I use is my own custom rom that I have compiled over the last month and a half, I use stuff from a bunch of different roms, so Im not sure what is from what......sorry.
thanks, i'll load those and see how it goes!
i've tried those and now i have have NO sound from earpiece. even flashed new rom (sickSense) ...
now it's nothing.
If I was you, or if I was me, I would RUU back to stock (I usually do once a month or so anyway) and see if that fixes it. If that fixes it, try flashing a different rom and see if the volume changes.
I had terrible problems with my volume for a while. I RUU back to stock, then I did ##786# and factory reset, allong with *#7780#, and ##72786#. Im not saying that you should do all of that, but that is the only way I could find to revert all of the changes that I made in QPST. It will put your phone completely back to stock, so you will need your MSID to get your services set back up.
I have no issues with my audio now
im trying the above right now. so far just RUU did not restore sound.
at least if all of these don't work, my phone wont look shady when i take it back to Sprint and claim ."i dunno what spazed on it?!!"
Thanks for all of your help shiftr! i hit thanks like twice i think!
No prob man, I just hope it helps.
Guys I have a severe problem with my phone. The thing is that the when i make or receive a call the audio is horrible, I mean it's like there is some weird vibration (as if there was something inside the phone speaker). Now the other speaker (for music) works perfect.
I got this while on CM7 (I've been using it for a month and never had an issue so I don0t think it's CM7 related. I'm on stock values (no UV/OC or anything, on stock CM7 kernel also).
I tried everything, I also flashed the original firmware with Odin and the problem persisted. Do you think it's a hardware issue and I have to get it to warranty?
Please help I'm going mad.
Thanks in advance.
How's the GPS? How's the call quality? The captivate's GPS sucked. The Atrix's call quality is okay. Looks like Odin is still needed for flashing. Still need it for a clean flash for a new ROM?
Please and thanks in advance.
Gps is amazing! Coming from the captivate I completely know what you mean. Finally have rock solid gps connection.
Call quality on my end has been superb. Wouldn't mind the speaker to be a little louder but it's not too quiet. No one has had any difficulty hearing me during a phone call. Been a few times driving that people thought I was at home. Couldn't hear any background noises from the car.
Odin is only getting used to root and take back to stock. Using it for anything else trips the flash counter. Haven't come across anybody who flashed a rom with problems from not going to stock first. Well there was one guy but he somehow had seriously jacked up wifi issues.

GPS and call quality is amazing. I only needed Odin to initially root but since then, I rarely need to use it. I wipe and flash right from CWM.
This device is one of the best androids ever released hands down. You wont be disappointed.

I say get it. Prices have come down since I bought it last month And yes, call quality is great, the GPS has not let me down. It's like night and day between SGS and SGS2.
I'm currently running stock but rooted. Still great as-is. (Am I missing something for not running a cooked ROM? That's for another thread.)
GPS is great, call quality is great, in theory you MIGHT be able to root and flash a custom kernel using the new zergRush exploit now.
Easier to just use Odin or Heimdall (open-source version of Odin) though.
Coming from a Captivate, these are my Pros:
- Better and bigger screen
- Better day-to-day battery life
- Better WiFi and Cell reception (in my specific home environment)
- Better camera & finally a led flash
- Excellent GPS
- NFC (eventually)
- Exynos CPU + Mali GPU + 1GB RAM
- Build quality (*)
- Noticeably lighter
* - Some may prefer the Captivate's sliding lock door mechanism, but there's no doubt my particular i777 is sturdier overall than my i897.
A few drawbacks I've found are the similar lack of FM radio that the Captivate had, and that flashing via ODIN increases an internal hardware protected counter. The i897 had CPU security hardware as well, but it was completely disabled by default. Also, my particular Captivate was fairly unbrickable, having used One-Click ODIN maybe 120-140 times without incident to recover from anything I had done to it... Not sure the same exists for the i777. Finally, the lack of Voodoo Sound (due to different on-board ADC) and the lack of tuned display settings is annoying.
Eventually everything except for Voodoo Sound and the FM radio will get fixed. But fair warning coming straight from a heavily customized CM7 Captivate...
if you don't get a case with any metal in it (including brushed aluminum) the GPS is stellar. I've not had any problems with call quality ever, and no problems with GPS once I got rid of my case with Brushed Aluminum on the back.

This is my first Android phone, and both GPS and Call quality are better than my past iPhone 3GS. As for Odin, if you use the zergRush exploit then get Mobile Odin Pro (once it's updated with compatibility, any day now) you'll never need Odin to flash roms.
Anyone want an Atrix + $100 for a SGS2?
Is the recovery still the same from the Captivate via Rom manager? Flashing roms still as simple as downloading a zip and flashing via recovery? How brickable is the device?
I'll simply say that every positive comment mentioned in this thread thus far I'd agree with. The phone is excellent in every aspect!
Extremely easy to flash cwm recovery and play with roms

And next to impossible to brick. As long as you don't flash bootloaders you're good. (And even in that regard, we seem somewhat more resilient since the PBL is hardcoded and hence uncorruptible - not sure if anyone has tried recovering from a corrupt SBL yet, I haven't even heard of anyone corrupting their SBL.)

Running SD 6.0.1 with SD kernel 5.0.2 and I've flashed the 35B bootstack.
Phone calls, notifications, etc., all play fine through the speaker, and through the headphones. However, I cannot hear phone calls through the earpiece. Mic is working fine - the caller can hear me, but I can't hear them.
I've read about headphone jack issues, although I never use headphones. But I exercised the jack anyway. No luck. Tried wiping cache and Dalvik cache also.
Could this be software or is it most likely hardware?
Anything else to try?
To determine if it is a hardware issue try another ROM or simply restore your obligatory backup of the stock ROM. Report back. If it doesnt work on stock its most likely a hardware issue. If it does work on stock, its a ROM or kernel issue.
Haven't flashed back to stock yet, but I did clean flash XDABBEB's ROM. So I changed ROM, kernel, and got rid of xPosed. Still no sound from the earpiece. Probably hardware.
Edit: Restoring back to full stock made no difference. Warranty replacement is on the way.
