Hi, i've updated my moto e from 4.4.4 to 5.1 via fastboot (i've flashed the lollipop firmware), i would like to downgrade to stock 4.4.4, is it safe to flash the stock 4.4.4 firm or it will brick my phone? i've read a lot on the internet, but it isnt really clear.
thanks.
I flashed everything but gpt.bin and my flash went fine. Then again, I have an unlocked bootloader and its an XT1019. So, flashing everything but gpt.bin might work for you, but it might not.

Find a 4.4.4 factory image and flash it with mfastboot, I guess........But don't flash 4.4.2 factory image and update to 4.4.4 OTA........U'll brick the phone......

downgrade
i downgraded my moto g successfully from lollipop to kitkat....
i think same method will work for moto e...
just don't flash these three lines in fastboot mode(i think u all know the stock firmware flashing procedure via fastboot)......otherwise bootloader downgrading will fail and u will brick ur device...
"mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot flash logo logo.bin"
flash all the other lines...and you will successfully downgrade to kitkat...
i can provide a batch file for flashing stock firmware...(u just have to double click on that file after putting it in the same folder u extracted firmware and mfastboot)
So were you able to lock the bootloader also?

okay
Downgrade
as lollipop update patched some files in it's OTA update such as: " gpt.img , motoboot.img , boot.img " downgrade might not be a use for these files and it's impossile also.. so u can flash 4.4.4 firmware files the old procedure via - M-Fastboot.. " Tested By Me.. No Brick At All "
U can back up lollipop and kitkat by cwm i m using 5.0 and 4.4 both..
so here is a bat file to flash..

The more secury way is apply stock 4.4.4 to your phone via fastboot, and after this, apply the lollipop ota zip file.
I also am stuck on 4.4.2. What could be the reason I never got the update to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4? I didn't do anything to the phone at first when I got it. I checked for updates and it always said its up to date. It came brand new with boot loader unlocked and a custom recovery. How did my carrier block updates?

you have 4.4.4 recovery and 4.4.2 rom in your phone? if so, you need to to apply entirely 4.4.4 rom via fastboot and after this you copy the lollipop soak test zip file in root internal memory.
To apply lollipop soak test you need to stock recovery and rom 4.4.4, bootloader unlocked is no problem.
How are you from? you need to download 4.4.4 rom and lollipop soak test from your country.

Hardbrick only occures when u flash downgrade firmware via Fastboot, so if u dont want hardbrick. Flash the ROMs via TWRP recovery as its not flash Bootloader, download Flasheble ROMs and flash via recovery it wont hardback.

Hey!
I'm currently on 4.4.4 with a custom recovery and rooted. I got the official Motorola 5.1 update yesterday. I want to know whether i need to flash the stock recovery and unroot before updating? Do i need to do anything else? like updating to 5.02 before updating to 5.1, cause i didn't get the 5.02 update, only the 5.1.
Thanks!
You don't need a 5.02 update, that's why Motorola announced they were skipping 5.0.2 official and going to 5.1
The soak test was 5.0.2 but only works on Indian retail versions (xt1022) of moto e and should not be flashed on other variants.
I think I've read that you need to be unrooted with stock recovery.......
Please don't take my work for it, its here on XDA that's where I read it.
You are lucky to get 5.1, UK is not getting the update at the moment, but I have 5.1 on my moto e via cm12.1.

Has anyone tried flashing 7.0 firmware for RetLA phones on a RetMX phone with everything working and accepting OTAs?
Why bother? Retmx and retla both have 7.0.

I have this weird issue:
Was in retMX firmware, but flashed OTA and stuff, so since I don't have a backup, I was trying to get it back to stock, and when flashing the boot.img it won't accept it, so I believe that the firmware was updated with the OTA and won't work with an older boot.img, so the only way to boot is flashing TurboKernel, and the phone boots and works fine; the problem is that that stock firmware needs the OTA that fixes the low volume issue, but it won't update cause the custom boot.img (TurboKernel).
So I have this theory that the Retla firmware since is newer might work well with the firmware that was installed by the OTA of retMX.
Sorry if i mislead something but English ain't my born language.
