After upgrading my micromax canvas a1 (AQ4501) to android 6.0 marshmallow, my sd card now has 2 folders "2FD4-1BE9" (having all my files and folders) and "self" (empty). Before upgrading, all my files and folders were just in one "sd card" folder. Most of my apps are installed/moved to sd card. Is it possible and safe for me to move all my files and folders from "2FD4-1BE9" folder to the root sd card, outside of these two folders and then delete these folders "2FD4-1BE9" and "self" ? Also, sometimes my sd card name (sd card) shows strange characters, like "M-[[email protected]\M-1M-(aM-$%". Why is that ?
i miss the /storage/sdcard1
any way to use this mount point instead of /storage/1234-5678 ?
Hi, I've got similar problem. I upgraded my Note 2 to CM13 based on Android Marshmallow and now my sd card has strange name which displays as "M4-%63-aW-^b6" or something like that. Is there a way to change sd card name? Mount point is "A456-B15" or something so label of SD could be different than that long weird name I suppose. Thanks in advance for help.
This has made switching SD Cards annoying. Spotify, for example can't see its own storage when moved to a new card because the mount name changes. So i am forced to refresh the app and download everything again. Marshmallow also changed how USB drives are mounted, which is causing me issues.
Please help! I have this exact problem on my new Galaxy S7!
This is not something android is doing as with aosp it is not this way. It is the oem or rom maker doing this.
Hi!
Same problem here. Did you have a solution ?
Tks
I had this problem. It's gone (hopefully) since I formatted ma SD

Hello everyone,
I have a small problem, I bought a new Galaxy s2 and a samsung 32GB (class 10) micro sd. I was very happy installing some gameloft games and some apps WHEN the phone says it doesnt have space. I checked the Storage options and it seems that the phone created a new folder for my SD card and named it "external_sd".
I searched this on google, and some people say to install Astro others say app2sd etc etc BUT none of them solve the problem because the phone still thinks that the "SD" is the SD folder(actually haves that name) that is inside of the internal storage.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I even tryed to move the Gameloft folder to the "external_sd" one, and I had to DL everything again... Maybe there is a way but I .. I simply cant see how.
Thank you.
P.S. Not rooted. 2.3.5 Europe.
"external_sd" is the sd card you bought!
while "sdcard" is the internal storage!
Put all your games in the gameloft/games folder in the internal storage which is "sdcard.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
I already knew that the folder "sdcard" is the inertal (like I sayed on my 1° post).
You sayed to put all the games on the gameloft folder and let it be on the internal side... but thats my problem. I cant. I dont have more space. I want to put all those files on the MicroSD that I bought. All (or allmost) all the others android phones are able to do that, so I assume there must be a trick for it.
P.S. I saw this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579546&highlight=storage
They talk about flashing the phone with the correct "pit file". But my phone is new and is not rooted. If i wait for the ICS will that fix the problem o.0?
Hello. I just installed CM 10.1.
How come it has created system folders on my SD card? I find an "Android" folder, a DCIM folder, a "notification" folder and so on. Before that, all thoses folders were only on my internal memory. I liked it that way. How can I change this?

I think its because, hashcode the person who made the rom (ported it to razr) made safestrap also, and wanted to save internal space for other rom slots.
I read on twitter that he'll be fixing it
Hello,
when inserting an external SD card, the internal memory card is then mounted as sdcard1 and the inserted external card is mounted as sdcard0. So Android starts writing a lot oft data to the external SD card.
How can I avoid this? Android should not touch the external SD card. I want to copy pix, music and backup manually to it.
Any suggestions?
Hi just go to settings =storage and then change default write disk to phone storage

Hello,
and you have tested this by yourself? If I insert an external SD card, switch to "default write disk to phone storage" and delete ALL data on this SD card, Android
immediately starts to write to data on it:
The folders "LOST.DIR", ".thumbnails" and "Android" are created. In the folder "Android" there is the folder "data" with several App-Data in it.
Even some Apps like WhatsApp start to write data to the external SD card.
So, switching to "default write disk to phone storage" does NOT keep Android away from writing data to it.
For example, on my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 the external SD card is mounted as "sdcard1" and no files are written to it automatically.
I browsed the web for hours, but did not find any solutions for this problem. It is not a big thing, but it is annoying.
:crying::crying::crying:
I have the same problem also on an old smartphone with MT6582 processor and Android 4.1.2.
It's an old problem, I think that it's a way of manage memory for smartphones based on MTK processors and there aren't solutions.
But I would like this to be denied
What about changing sdcard1 and sdcard0 , in the mount point file:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK2O92kgki0
You must be root.
When i have time to root my phone i will try.
I am having the same problem and it is very annoying. Why can't Android leave alone my Sdcard? I only want to storage music and some files there.
@yascooluk
Settings =>storage => default disk write storage "Phone" has no effect. Lots of Apps point to sdcard0, which is now the external sdcard.
@ndouchin
This Solution worked for Android Versions prior 4.3. In Android 5.1 there is no vold.fstab file, and swapping mounting points works differently now, but i didnt' figure it out yet.
Yes you are right, fstab is in boot.img in lollilop, if I believe what I read ;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426804
Maybe try to unpack and pack boot.img:
http://www.mtkroms.com/2015/02/unpackrepack-bootimg-and-port-kernel.html
Sorry I have no time to work on my device , i have not already rooting it, and the internal memory is enough for me.
I've managed to root my device, but i'm not skilled enough to do this boot.img operation. Too many things that can go wrong. As the source code for this device was already released, I'll wait and hope until some developer can find a solution.
XinternalSD is the solution. Try it. regards

Hello XDA.
This is my first time to come here and register, i heared that XDA is the best android developers website so i came here to request your help.
Lately i bought Lenovo Vibe S1 that comes with 2 Nano-Sim slots but if i'm going to insert a SD Card then there are 1 Nano-Sim slot.
I have a 4GB SD Card. I inserted it to the phone. The problem here that when i copy/move files to the SD Card it doesn't show in the apps. Like, moving Photos from internal storage to SD Card it doesn't appear in gallery. Same as songs, when i move them from internal storage to SD Card they doesn't show up in 3rd music player apps. Unless i unmount the SD Card from the settings and remount it. But it is a pain to unmount and remount when i move anything to the SD Card.
So, any help to fix this?
PS: I don't want to root, flash or install ROMs to my device.
Thank you for taking your time by reading my thread.
I started a Thread before but it was in the wrong section.
Brother what Android OS has your phone? If it is higher than 5.0 backup your files on the Sd Card and then format your Card in your Phone. After that put the files back on the Sd card. This worked for me on Android 5.1.1.

It is 5.0. Anyways, i will try your method and inform you if it worked. Thank you.
I did the method. It worked in Gallery while moving the photos from Internal Storage to SD Card it appears in gallery. But in ****ing music app it doesn't appear.
Which music app are you using? There is sometimes an issue with apps that don't use the sd-card an option called ".nomedia" filter or something like that is checked. Try to find it in your app and uncheck it. I hope that will work.

I use MusiXMatch. And i check my music in Google Play Music to check that it is not MusiXMatch's problem but the same thing. My music aren't in .nomedia. When i unmount the SD Card and mount it again i see the songs.
Hi,
I own an Acer Liquid Z630 that I successfully rooted following this guide. I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP and installed the SU zip, everything's working perfectly.
But during the process, my phone somehow decided to "switch" internal storage and external SD card, making SD card the default storage. SD card is now labelled as sdcard0 and internal memory as sdcard1, while it should be the opposite, and apps data are now written on the SD card instead of the internal memory.
When I unmount the SD card, internal storage becomes default storage again and is correctly labelled as sdcard0, but as soon as I mount it again, the same problem happens.
I want default storage to always be internal storage, even if the SD card is mounted, like it was before. I don't want my phone to write any file on my SD card, I only want files I put myself to be on my SD card.
I tried factory reset, but it remained the same. I did a little searching and saw a lot of threads with people asking how to make SD card the default storage (in my case, that's the exact opposite), but apparently, on Lollipop there's no way to change default storage. But it did change when I rooted my phone...
I also thought about updating to Marshmallow, as I heard storage is managed differently, but there's no official upgrade by Acer, and I could'nt find any unofficial port for Z630.
This has been bothering me for quite a while now and I don't konw what to do anymore, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Anyone ?

I have an UNROOTED ACER LIQUID Z630 and it does the same.
Its not a matter of it being rooted or not; every time you mount an SD card, memory option nº1 for the mobile is SD card.
