If you can't buy the remote from anywhere, then I would either recommend the Gamepad or using a remote app (official or Droidmote) on a cell phone or tablet.
you can use
amazon fire tv stick replacement remote
Does anyone know if the 2015 Amazon Fire TV 4K remote works?
It uses WiFi Direct so I'm doubtful, but I would buy one if it worked.
Man what's with everyone using that WiFi blocking WiFi direct crap? I sold my roku stick over that crap, broadcasting as an access point on the same channel as my router and blocking WiFi. They created Bluetooth for this type of stuff might as well use it.
And I'm going to go with no, as the shield controller also uses WiFi direct and reports have indicated that the shield controller won't pair with the nexus player

The Shield controller won't work but the Shield remote does. I own both and have used my Shield remote on my Nexus Player just fine because it uses Bluetooth

I use the chines flying remote (buy a good one for $12) it has selections to fly point or to just standard remote. You attach with a small usb dongle provided with remote and has plus you can use with those app that require touch or mouse control. all in one.
This is the one I use ...but there is more... http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/262410582053?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true

I know I'm about 2 years too late but wifi direct remotes wont interfere with your wifi, even if they are on the same channel. You only get wifi interference if both are being used at the same time, so you only get a fraction of a second of interference when you press a button on the remote.
haw somebody bought something cheap that worked with nexus player?
stock remote is garbage..
The Harmony hub isn't cheap but it's great if you need a universal remote. I got it for $80 CAD during Black Friday.
It has BT and it works well with NP. It's what I'm using now.

It's a very good device, but you'll be best to get a 2A wall charger for it and a powered USB hub. The slightest bit of drain on it causes flickering and crackling which is very unpleasant.
Other than that it's awesome. I use DroidMote on my tablet to control it, but it needs to be rooted first (instructions on Rikomagic forum).
It's now my full-time media player for the TV, streaming across network shares and as a DLNA client. For the price it's unbeatable.

Lol, I plan on messing with some co-workers during production meetings next week with TV in our conference room.
Love being able to use the S4 for channel surfing too as it is much faster than my slow direct tv box.
I caved and bought the "Smart remote for Galaxy S4" but haven't played with it too much yet. Seems to have alot of function available. Gonna mess with it more this weekend.
Maybe it's my tv, but do you have to point the blaster directly at the TV in order to get it to work?
I love the IR feature. But I found the range and angle to be very lacking. The IR beam seems like its only like 25° degrees... So you have to be right on with your aim. It's a little annoying I wish they would have used a better lens for the IR emitter.

Mine picked up my Sony Bravia and Samsung TVs very easily. But I had to try a few times and aim very directly for my Direct TV boxes. After paired though they seemed very responsive.

I tried the watchon app and it seems to work well with my Samsung tv and Directv. I have an audio receiver that I use for sound. Has anyone figured out how to use the volume for one device while the channel operates another? My Directv remote does it. Any of the pay apps do this?
I got all my TVs working decent enough, though ones that have HD converter boxes don't get a guide button. There's a menu button but that only brings up useless options, not the guide itself. If it's a TV with just the digital converter box there's a guide button that works fine, haven't quite figured out how to fix that yet.

Hold down the Volume rocker (on the screen, not on the phone) and a separate pop up will come up. I have an audio unit also that separately controls my sound. It'll bring up a thing to insert it. Strange that they would put it there, and not in the settings but...whatever it works... ya know?

Awesome but I just tried it and don't get the pop-up. I added my tv, added the directtv, then added my av system. I went to the remote where everything works but the volume. It tried to work the tv volume that is not used. Long pressing it does nothing. Did I miss something?

I'm looking into buying a chromecast dongle but wanted to get some opinions. I mainly want to use the mirroring feature and don't want to have to connect a cord to do it. I've read a few reviews on some dongles and some on them they say that the wifi used to mirror to the tv also interferes with the data wifi. Any suggestions on what I should buy would be appreciated. Thanks!

Chromecast is relatively the cheapest and best way to go. Just do it... you'll be happy you did.
Also Amazon has it for 30$ and so does Bestbuy. Never found it any cheaper than this. $5.50 lower than most others.
And chromecast has the mirroring feature to? Didn't see it in the features list.
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
I thinks is called streaming not mirroring but from what I understand you can serve any file to and play it as long as the device can share over your network.
I use the Netgear PTV3000, which does wireless mirroring. I bought it last year. It's been basically stuffed in the closet most of the time except for when i was travelling. It had a lot of stuttering, and disconnects. Basically had to close all apps, and had to keep the phone close to the device to minimize the issues.
Getting ready for a new trip. So took it out a few days ago and saw there was a new firmware update for it. All I can say it's a night and day difference. Now it streams video perfectly clear to the TV with my Note 3, no more stuttering, and do not have to keep the phone right by PTV3000 anymore.
I have the Chromecast as well the only issue is it doesn't play flash videos, and few other formats. An if your going to use it while in a hotel you will need a portable router as well. With the PTV3000 anything you have on your screen will stream to the tv, without needing a router.
A neat feature with the PTV3000, and the Note 3 stock video app. Is I can minimize the app, browse the web, or do other things while the video still plays on the tv without interruption.

it was a couple of days ago, but I'm using another way, and want to inform you.
Im Using Tronsmart T1000. And I had also a PTV3000, but I'm not so lucky with this.
The Tronsmart works easy, connect my Android Tablett (Samsung Tab 2) as well as my Note 3 . And I can connect my Windows Laptop with this Dongle.
Mirroring and other things are running fine.
I've bought this from Everbuying.com ;
http://www.everbuying.com/product535239.html (was cheap and easy). But you can also check it by Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Tronsmart-T1000-Mirror2TV-Wireless-Compatible/dp/B00H2D3N0M
Because of the features from T1000 I recommend it in all ways. It makes a WLan Connection to the Home-Router, that you can redirect from Tronsmart direct to the internet. And all connected devices are running fine.
I want a wireless connection from my Nexus 9 to a projector.
I tried to attach a Chromecast to the HDMI port of the projector but Chromecast requires WiFi.
This solution works at home but not at place I have not access to a free WiFi connection.
The idea is to wirelessly present slides in meetings using my tablet.
Any wireless solution that you know would work??
Need my Nexus 9 and projector ..... (buy a receiver but what)
Will Miracast do the job?
1) Buy a dongle
2) Attach it to the HDMI port of the projector
3) Run and app
4) Present slides with no wires
miracast wont work.
you would need a hotspot maybe by using your phone..i forget if that can be done or not. you will need to use the tablet to set up the chromecast
Chromecast did not work using my phone as a hotspot..... dropped in 5 minutes.
Support forums say mobile hotspot is not supported.
May look into hard wiring the Nexus 6 to the projector..... not something I want to do, makes for ugly presentations.
Yeah if you could connect to it in a offline mode, a router would be your fix. Wish there was another way.
Have you looked into EZCast dongle? There are so many variants I can't decide which to try. Results are mediocre overall, but some are reporting success. I just want to cast videos from tab storage to TV without wifi. This device does that. It also does miracast. I've done the build.prop edit that may allow miracast. If I try one (or two), I'll let you know.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I dont think that miracast would work for that .
When do you don't want failure, I would recommend trustworthy wires.

Interesting as I don't think I was (nor were most others) ever able to mirror my Nexus 7 2012 to the TV via a cable. Micro usb to HDMI--I've never seen one, only dongles such as MHL and Slimport. MHL isn't supported as it is on my old Galaxy Nexus. Slimport isn't supported as it is on the N7 FHD and Nexus 5. A micro usb-to-hdmi would not work without some sort of hardware and software adjustments because of the limitations of the usb port on the Nexus 7.
As the thread is about a wireless connection to a projector when there is no accessible wifi, we came around to wired connections. So far, you're the only one to suggest a cable will work, but the cable you hyperlinked is a micro hdmi-to-hdmi which would not natively work on any Nexus tablet or phone (at least since Galaxy Nexus). I have that cable.
I have read that the EZCast dongle may work--if you actually get a good one and are close enough to the output device. I'm not ready to try it as I'm still debating keeping my N9.
I have read that the phone does support mhl 3.0, but then I have read that it doesn't and the only way you are getting video out is through Miracast. Anybody here have direct knowledge if there is mhl support?
Thanks
Microsoft Miracast dongle won't work with it either. Does not connect. So much for using this phone with my Appradio.

Just wish I knew which adapter worked. I would get the nex4100, but having an Appradio 2 already and was planning on using ARLiberator or unchained, it would keep me from spending $600. At this point I guess I have to return my phone. Drastic I know, but my radio is useless without a phone.
Samsung phones will generally only work with Samsung brand MHL adapters.
I've read multiple sources on the web that it is true that he S6 doesn't support MHL. I'll verify this later today. While this isn't a big deal at home because you can use chromecast ...etc, , it is in my car. I've always displayed my Phone's (androids and IOS) on my car stereo, for gps or waze purposes (just some examples). Anyone else use MHL? kinda bummed about sammy taking away that functionality.

With Chromecast it is flawless, with any other Miracast adapter it is horrible. The only hard part (not hard, time consuming) is setting up the Chromecast to work with tethering off of your phone. The rest works just the same as an mhl adapter.
Well, these comments are bothersome! I ordered a Samsung MHL connector from Amazon and it is coming from China on a very slow boat. I ordered it two weeks ago and Amazon says it could be another month. This will tick me off if it finally gets here and doesn't work!! If anyone gets it to work, please post here!!
