Hello All!
Relative noob here...but more seasoned all the time. Firstly my viewpad device info from FTM:
SWVer=3.410
Model: FM6-001
HWVer: 107
In a nutshell: My bluetooth wasn't turning on (would turn on..then off). So tried to fix by:
1) Rooting and install CWM 5.0.2.6 (awesome tool BTW) and various ROMs, all done with success.
2) No good, oh well now want to give up. Contacted Viewsonic got RMA to return unit..however now concerned they'll not honor warranty if I rooted the device (sigh). So thought I'd return to stock. I did backup..but was already rooted when I thought of it.
3) Trying to return to stock using many versions Sutl3 and Sutlr...and on different PCs none work..once it boots to CWM menu...just stalls with error eventually.
4) Tried to install Napster's CWM with Recovery Menu to be able to return to original state with stock recovery. My version of CWM won't install it...errors out (another great tool though by the sounds of it).
5) Can't use fastboot..never sees device...although ADB works OK. Believe that the Bluetooth issue may be a hardware problem and may be effecting devices ability to work in "download mode". Note that HS-USB device is never present in device manager in Windows even though driver is installed.
So...my question...how can I return my device to stock with one of the below .nb0 files without stock recovery, sutlr or sutl3?
Files I have:
FM6-3310-0-5029-A02.nb0
FM6-3350-0-1008-A01.nb0
Can I somehow use CMW? Can I somehow use adb and "flash_image"?
Will super appreciate any thoughts!
Many thanks in advance!
Johnster25
If I remember correctly, you use SUTL3 from Viewsonic on your PC with the *.nb0 file in the same sub/directory - and just run it to flash the stock ROM or return it to factory condition, you do NOT use CWM to flash or re-install the *.nb0 file ... Part of this process involved overwriting the CWM installed on your rooted device & reversing it to become unrooted, look under the Development subforum here in this section as there's a link/discussion about how to restore, please double check on the details written up.
Also, make sure you have a mSD card in the slot - and that the USB drivers are loaded & running (they should be installed already back then) - might want to power down & restart the PC and do the same to the Vpad7.
Let us know how it go & good luck !
Many thanks for your response.
Well, what has happened when I've used SUTL3 so far is that I select the .nbo image I wish to flash, then the program restarts teh VPAD7 into recovery mode.
From what I've read, after a few moments the phone is then supposed to enter some sort of "download mode" whereby the new image is pushed across the USB cable.
It's at this point with SUTL3 seems to error out, and the phone simply remains in CWM.
I've read a few posts that suggest that not using the correct image could produce a response like this, so I'll retry again this PM having tried re-downloaded the two .nbo files I've tried, and one I've not tried.
Will let you know how it goes!
J.
Hi Again,
OK I've retried it with a fresh copy of SUTL3, and new .nb0 files. Still no good.
Take a look at the enclosed pictures. The first time I try to run SUTL3 the device not configure error shows up. By this point CWM is showing on the VPAD7. I try to run SUTL3 again in this state and now the device not detect error shows up.
So all in all it seems to me that the device when in CWM mode is not exposing an interface to the computer...or the computer lacks the driver needed to utilize the interface.
I've also enclosed a picture of my windows devices when the VPAD7 is connected, as well a copy of the drives that show up when it's connected. The only time the drives change is when the VPAD7 is in CWM mode, at which time the H: drive (where the adb program are) is not present.
So am I missing a driver?
BTW: Have tried to copy down the synchronization program that is on the H: Drive and ran it while running SUTL3...thinking somehow it acted like a bridge to the VPAD7 (I've seen some posts that suggest this). Still no good.
J.
OK..one more piece to the puzzle...or maybe off the trail...but when trying on two differnt PCs when the VPAD7 is first plugged in I get one set of driver installs...and note that the HS-USB has an error.
Later when trying to run SUTL on it...another set of driver installs...again HS-USB error.
See enclosed.
try run sutl with viewpad in FTM mode that worked for me good luck
I have same problem before..n my solution is change back CWM with old ..mine to CWM 2.5.1..found that CWM 5.0.2.6 got problem with SUT L3..and everythind done successfully..as long u can still access ur Viewpad to change CWM its ok..
Wow! Thanks so much for your reply! This would be a huge help. Any idea where I might be able to find that older version of CWM?
Alleycatzero you're a genius! Running SUTL in FTM mode has done it!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is under the Development section - just d/l and unpack the zip file, copy to mSD card & follow the instructions. This verison should be the earlier one and I personally find it worked best together with ext3 and/or ext4 partitioning as needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015005
The issues with SUTL3 and other apps not working/running has to do with the usb drivers not auto-installing & running as they should, try to uninstall Vpad7 drivers, reboot the PC - turn off any firewall and anti-virus software, connect the Vpad7 and let it finish installing/rebooting both devices again. Then, turn back on antivirus & firewall so that you will have easier time flashing rom, connecting mSD card & copying/moving files, etc.
Hello, i just recently purchased an Allview P5 smartphone, it's really cost efficient but recently i started getting some problems because the phone is not rooted and i was wondering how to root the android 4.04. i tried the superoneclick 2.3.3 and installed adb and something from java, bu when i rung the program superoneclick the program just freezes and it's not responding. any suggestions or guides that i should follow?
best regards
Chris
Try root for HaiPai I9220. For me it works.
Having the same problem here, Superoneclick freezes on step 7 iirc.
HaiPai didn't work for me either
So that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923764
There you will find this: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?othd1gf76pa97zg
It is 100% functional, but need more knowledge and skill.
Ok, I came a lot further this time, but still stuck.
As soon as I let Cygwin `patch` the recovery.img, it does the patching and stuff, but it doesn´t create a new recovery.img for some reason..
If you check page 13 of that PDF manual: I get all the same messages in Cygwin, except for that "Repacking" bit.
Any Idea why it isn't repacking?
Losing my nerves a bit because of Cygwin, what a horrible program to get to work properly. Installation went on beyond 100%, till about 2000% and then just started to count further in negatives >____<
You must have installed 7-zip archive program.
SuperOneClick should work for this device. You may try this:
1) unmount the sd-card, turn ON usb-debugging
2) turn OFF usb-debugging
3) connect device to PC
4) click "Root"
5) when "Waiting for Device" appear turn ON usb-debugging
6) when "Starting ADB Server..." turn OFF usb-debugging
7) then turn it back ON
8) and back OFF
9) repeat this while "Waiting for Device" appears again.
@Stovka: I have 7zip installed, the unpacking/extracting of the recovery.img goes fine in Cygwin, but for some reason it just skips the repack part.
@AndreyETO: As soon as I disable debugging mode, superoneclick stops the procedure, so I didn't get far with that
So sorry, I don't really know what is the problem...
It was all ok for me - the one problem was that I had not installed 7-zip, but after installing it worked exactly according to instructions.
If it were successful: after recording recovery.img to the phone is first necessary to go into CWM mode (no run phone) and install the root file attached. End CWM recovery mode is classically done by clicking on "reboot system now", but after the first time there appears one more option (just I don't know what name), which must be confirmed! Otherwise, when you restart the phone again, then will be loaded the original file and the recovery process must be repeated - upload modified recovery.img and then root file via CWM.
Found another way to root, and it worked

Same experience on Allview P6 Stony (P6_0201_V1179 software build). This method works for me - similarly I had to run the script (and the reboot cycle) 2x before it had an effect.
As pointers for others, before you try this method you need to make sure you have ADB drivers installed. Trying to install stock google drivers didn't work at all for me, what worked for me was installing latest PdaNet drivers (pdanetZ350.exe) from here: junefabrics.com/android/download.php *
Don't forget to install OTA Rootkeeper app afterwards and run it once - hopefully saves you the hassle of rooting again if the P6 should receive an incremental update.
Enjoy, thanks Flapperbol!
(*= sorry Im not allowed to post links)
Version 18 also works
Just to let you guys know that version 18 of Root_with_restore works. I just the ADB drivers from the PDAnet install (which I cancelled after the drivers were installed) and the phone is now rooted!
Does anybody know how to get rid of those ugly allview icons? I hate those things.

Hi everyone,
I have a Sony Tablet S with Android Version 4.0.3 release 5a and I am having problems with the Android Software, the programs such as browser, games even android base applications keep crashing. The device is still under warranty and I sent it for repair however the service here requested around 100$ for software installation as it is not under warranty. This is too much for me so I decided to do it myself however. I have searched this forum and many more to find a solution however even I have tried every step described in forums several time I could not be able to reinstall latest ROM from SD Card. I really desperately need some help here as this device is purchased solely for my daughter who loves android games alot.
I really appreciate any help you may provide.
Thanks.

hello,
try a hard reset. hold VOL up + POWER and when you see the logo sony release the VOL up button. then choose a factory reset. do not have to install from sd card.
Already tried hard and soft reset. Doesn't work.
I will try to describe the problem in full detail. I have weird error messages like "Google Play Store stopped working" "browser stopped working" "clock stopped working" and such error messages and when I try to uninstall programs i can uninstall them however when the tablet restarts they are all there, I think machine resets it self. If i try to uninstall a program called "Ustream" the tablet immediately goes off, and restarts resetting it self again. Even the soft and hard reset can not solve the problem. I have tried to boot the device, it says it is booted (I have managed to run adb and flash tools) how ever when the tablet restarts it again resets it self having the exact same situation as before. I have downloaded the official R5A update from the Sony Website when ever i try to install update from SD, the machine stops saying the operation is aborted due to some error. There must be a way to reset this machine to what ever it was.

I have already tried that. The adb, flasher and other tools that I have found in this site. All in one tool says it has succesfully rooted the device but whenever it boots it restores itself to a previous unknown backup with all the applications installed and I guess not rooted state. I have used the flasher yet it needs rooted device. I have tried to update the system from SD, it says the software is low version (5A). I can not do anything. There must be a solution for this.

After attempting root the tablet is rebooting into the other partition. (There are two system partitions). Can you try rooting again and on the last reboot boot into recovery and try to install R5a twice in a row without restarting from the recovery menu. Hopefully this will catch the system switch and install R5a on the other system

After the update fail. Use adb pull /tmp/recovery.log and post it here and I will see what is happening
The flashing operation fails as the system can not access to the specified directory. Whenever I run the flashing tool the command windows background turns to red and I see this error. ADB can list the device yet I can not flash it.
By the way I have to reinstall all the drivers everytime I connect the tablet to PC, if I remove the cable and re mount it adb fails to list the device.
[ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED! - Download and use "ROOT Genius" to root this particular brand of tablet. I have personally tested it and can confirm it works on Firmware revisions: v1.0.07 and v1.0.9! Thanks to "brugos" for finding the fix and bringing it to my attention!]
Hey guys
I do hope I have posted this question in the correct forum, if not I do apologise.
As you can probably tell from the title, I am looking for a way to root my 9.7 inch Prestigio MultiPad 4 Quantum 9.7 tablet (Model: PMP5297C_QUAD).
I have been looking for a way to root this since December, and even though I have found several articles (non English) explaining how to root this device (and have been through all the relevant threads I could find regarding my device on XDA), all of the guides have been for firmware v1.0.3 - my tablet is v1.0.7. I went ahead and tried it anyway, and although CWM installed and launched fine, installing the SuperSU binary via CWM did nothing. It installs, but nothing appears in Android when I reboot, and installing SuperSU from Play Store alerts me that the SuperSU binaries are not installed.
I tried "Kingo Android ROOT" and that wouldn't even detect the device, which isn't surprising as it isn't listed on their website. However somebody on a similar thread (on XDA) suggested that the OP (who has the same tablet as myself) at least try it. I did try it, and sadly it doesn't work.
Device information:
Prestigio MultiPad 4 Quantum 9.7" Tablet
Model Number: PMP5297C_QUAD
Firmware: v1.0.7 (December 2013)
FW Build Number: PMP5297C_QUAD_20131204_V1.0.7
Android Version: 4.2.2
If there is anybody out there who has any idea what to try, then I am willing to listen. If anybody needs any other information, I am more than willing to give it
Cheers guys
Prestigio multipad 4 quantum 9.7
The same here..trying to find a way to root for the new firmware...still haven't got anything...
Yeah... doesn't seem to be a very popular brand of tablet :/ Which is a shame as its pretty damn snappy with the v1.0.7 firmware. I wanna get a resolution changer to work, but none I have tried will work without rooting. Only wanna drop the res for better gaming framerates lol
yeah agree...doesn't seem very popular... I guess we should wait some time more.... did you try rooting with the old firmware and then updating to the new firmware? I guess it wouldn't work anyway....
Nope... from past experience rooting phones updating the firmware breaks the root as v1.0.7 replaced the entire OS if I remember...
Tried the root for v1.0.3 while using v1.0.7... ClockWorkMod installed and works fine, but the SuperSU binary doesn't work/install It was a gamble incase it screwed anything up but luckily it didn't - however, it also didn't work
And yeah, looks like we will need to wait a while longer... I do hope someone out there somewhere knows what to do lol Just gotta find them or wait for them to find us lol
Hey dude...you still haven't find root? If not try with root genious... I got root now on my tablet...running the latest firmware 1.0.9
Regards!
Ah man! You are AMAZING! lol
I almost gave up trying to find a root - until now!
I had no idea that there was a new FW released a few weeks back, just updated it and downloaded "ROOT Genius" - worked first time!
Excellent work there dude, thank you so much and thank you for taking the time to share it with me, and the rest of the people out there who have been in the same situation as us who are still looking for a fix!
Now we have it! Excellent work!
You welcome!
Just curious what are you going to do to your tablet having root now?
Do you know if there is any posibility to install any rom or something like that?
Also knowing Prestigio I guess would be hard to find some updates hmmm
Hey man
Well the main reason I wanted to root first of all was to adjust the resolution of the display, it has a beautiful high resolution display as you know but some games... the FPS leave a lot to be desired. After doing some reading, some posts suggested lowering the display resolution to increase FPS - and the only way to do that was to root the device.
I did try one app, but it went a bit wrong lol. I was hoping it would readjust the resolution and resize the interface accordingly... instead it ended up changing the resolution, but the interface stayed MASSIVE. The device was inoperable and keep getting a "UI Error" constantly popping up making it unusable at all lol. Had to reflash and re-root so I am looking for another option
Beyond that, I have used custom ROMs in the past on my Android phones, but as far as I know, I believe there is only one ROM out there for our tablet and its based on CyanogenMOD I think... I may be wrong, but I thought I read something somewhere about it. Apart from that though, I am not really sure what else I will do now it is rooted Will open the door to some other apps for certain, but the OS itself seems fine and since the new firmware (v1.0.9) - it feels even faster than before!
What do you have in mind?
Yeah I noticed the issue of FPS in some games.... Well I didn't do many things yet I instaled Xposed and some modules.... and also I removed the navingation bar...is just that I dont like the way the navigation bar and status bar are together... thats why I was searching for another rom also which could have not the Ice cream sandwich bar.
I've found this: crewrktablets.arctablet.com where there are some roms with kit kat that may be work for our tablet but nothing confirmed yet...so I'm not sure if I'm gonna try it
and yeah with the new firmware is much faster thats cool.... but I'm almost sure will be forever in 4.2.2
It worked with MULTIPAD 4 QUANTUM 10.1PMP5101C-QUAD with last firmware too.

You've got some drivers here: http://storage29-free.uloz.to/Ps;Hs...7c-cwm-v6-0-3-zip?bD&c=1822785863&De&redirs=1
It's also root and cwm. But there is driver folder too. Even for windows 8. It might work.
Here are some instructions maybe you did something wrong
1. On tablet set the usb-connection-style to 'mass storage'. Settings, Memory-3 dots in the upper right corner- choose Mass storage
2. Turn off the tablet.
3. Connect the usb cable with PC and tablet.
4. HOLD DOWN the (volume +) key and turn the device on(still holding the vol.+) until you get a notice(driver not successfuly installed) on your PC.
5. Use the Manual(found in the downloaded folder) to install a proper driver. Or.: Go to Start-My Computer-Right click on it-Properties-Device Manager-Other devices-Unknown device-Update Driver- In the window browse the computer for the specific driver(that's why you need to know your systems pc)
Good luck.

Good luck.

Ok, i tried those drivers too but no success. I think maybe i need other OS.
I have developers options ON and USB debugging turned ON. (I think that should be turned ON)
P.S. I changed to mass storage and program did recognize the tablet but when i clciked switch (tablet turned OFF) and then it did not recognize anymore - i think problems with drivers.
Update to 1.0.9
Hello again,
I finally made it
Here is the thing:
1) Download this update (1.0.9): http://de05.dl.prestigio.com/Service_Files/TabletPC/PMP5297C_QUAD/PMP5297C_20140425_v1.0.9.zip from @yoyo97 (thanks)
2) Dont use drivers in folder /Drivers_x32 or /Drivers_x64
Instead go to /tools/Driver (and use this one x86 or x64 - depends on your OS)
3) Follow instructions in manual:
start RKBatchTool.exe and if icon is not green click Switch. Wait for tablet to shutdown and you should get green icon. (if this doesnt help turn off your tablet manualy and press AND hold volume + button for about 6-7 seconds DONT release and plug in USB cable then you should get notification on windows and green icon in RKBatchTool.exe)
4) Choose the firmware image and click upgrade.
5) let the software do the trick
6) profit
7) for rooting i used an android app called kingo root https://www.kingoapp.com/ just download the app on tablet. When you start it just click root and let the app do the trick.
After around 2-4min your tablet should be rooted.
I was using windows 7 (x86)
If you need any information please let me know and I will be glad to help
Have a nice day,
DyXen
Hi DyXen
Tried it all, but cannot get rockusb.inf to work on Windows 10 64-bit. I see two devices in my device manager after connecting the tablet, POrtable Device PMP5297C_QUAD and Android Composite ADB Interface. Have tried forcing the bundled Win8 x64 rockusb.inf on to both devices but keep getting "The folder you specified does not contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems."
I have also tried DriverAssistant v4.4 and it installed the drivers OK.
Even tried copying the IMG and ZIP files to SD card and applying via recovery. Nothing works. My tablet is still stuck on 1.0.3 and is sluggish as a snail. Some help will be greatly appreciated.

Could you solve it? Cause I have the same problem
Hello, all!
I've been running Nexus v4.0.5 on my Thor device for a couple of years, but I'm more than ready for an upgrade. An upgrade to CM 14.1/LineageOS, to be exact.
At this point, I have a rooted Thor device with Safestrap v4.0.1 installed; Nexus v4.0.5 is installed in the STOCK ROM slot.
From what I understand, I need to unlock my boot loader, install TWRP, and then... something. Can anyone tell me how to go about unlocking my bootloader, installing TWRP, and doing everything else necessary to get CM 14.1 installed?
Oh, and if you're wondering exactly what I've done to this device thus far, check out this guide I made a few years ago. I've done all the steps outlined therein.
Thanks!

See below; same steps apply. You do not need to remove SafeStrap or Nexus. Note all data will be lost; be sure to backup any important content.

I've gotten to the point where I need to upgrade TWRP to the latest version, but I can't seem to get fastboot to recognize the TWRP file.
I'm using the command
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery thor-twrp-3.1.1-1
thor-twrp-3.1.1-1 is in platform-tools, and that's the directory I'm running these commands in.
Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!

Hah, yeah, that's it. Totally forgot about file extensions.
So, I've gotten TWRP flashed, and I've flashed LineageOS and GAPPS according to the instructions here. When I try to boot up, though, I get stuck on the "Welcome to your Kindle Fire HDX" screen; it gives me the option to restore data from a previous device or start fresh. Since I don't have an internet connection on my device, I can't do anything related to my prior devices. And clicking on the start fresh option crashes the start-up program and sends be back to the language selection screen (which pops up just before the "Welcome to your Kindle Fire HDX" screen).
Now, before I flashed GAPPS, I didn't have this problem. The "Welcome to your Kindle Fire HDX" screen didn't show up, so I was able to set-up the OS and use it.
I've tried wiping the device, restarting, and reflashing LineageOS and GAPPS (both in a queue and one after another).
Any idea what's going on?

- insure bootloader is unlocked; unlock again if uncertain
- be sure to wipe system & data partitions before flashing LinOS
- ROM and GAaps (7.1/arm/nano) should be flashed in one operation
- if still no joy downgrade to TWRP 3.0.0-1 then try again
- as a last resort flash Fire Nexus KTU84Q (just one file), boot and allow ROM to initialize, then return to TWRP and reflash LinOS + GAaps
The above may seem a bit random but there's a reason behind each suggestion and the order in which they are presented.

So, I can't seem to get fastboot to run unlock because fastboot isn't recognizing my kindle as a device. When I go to Device Manager, my Kindle is under Portable Devices, and if I browse for drivers on my computer, I only get "MTB USB Device."
Any advice?

- download drivers from this post (prequisite section); unzip as needed
- open windows device manager
- tether device in fastboot mode
- take note of entries added; delete those devices
- remove tether and reattach (might have to reboot one/both devices)
- when Windows prompts for drivers direct it to those downloaded

So, I can't seem to get into fastboot mode. I don't have a factory cable, and none of the commands listed here activate fastboot mode.
What should I do?
Sorry for my ignorance!

We are all ignorant about 99.99% percent of the world around us with unique 'points of light' distinguishing various individuals; never apologize for being ignorant!
Possible solution:
- boot into TWRP (turn off tablet then restart by pressing <power>+<vol-down> together; release first logo appears)
- tether device to host PC (assumes Windows)
- tap Reboot
- tab Bootloader
Above sequence should place your tablet in 'fastboot mode'. If the word 'Ready' appears on the tablet screen the correct drivers are installed on the PC. If not follow previously posted procedure for updating drivers.

True, true! Thanks for your kind words, Davey!
And thanks for your help with this, too!
I was able to boot into fast mode, and I went through the unlock process again. With that done, I tried to reflash LineageOS and GAPPS, but I ran into the same issue I did before. So I did a bit of googling (which I didn't exactly think to do before :C), and apparently this is a known issue for CM operating systems.
Here's the fix.
Swipe down (a few hundred times) to get the notification tray. Go to settings. Turn on wifi. Problem (probably) solved.
Thanks again for all your help, Davey! I wouldn't have gotten Nexus running back in the day without ya, and I wouldn't be running LineageOS right now if you hadn't been my savior a second time around. And in addition to my thanks, sorry for not googling first! It would have saved both of us a bit of trouble, haha.
