Hey guys, sorry for title, I couldn't find a better one :S
So what happens? Sometimes, after I took my phone making a shower with me :3 somethings become very slow for about 30/60 min: somethings like keyboard, notifications sounds, whatsapp audio and YouTube and gallery videos pause after 2sec of playback. All other stuff still being fast as hell: camera, music, etc.
It happened already 2 times in 2weeks (so like 14 times I get my baby a shower )

up, nobody has an idea?
Well, for one, stop taking showers with your phone. I think the problem might be with how the water registers on the touchscreen, maybe it slightly shows multiple touches, requiring CPU power. Don't do that anymore

So...If you touch your screen too fast, your videos lag for 30min?

For one, keep taking showers I can't replicate this problem though. I seem to have no issues. Is your one white?

No. Multiple droplets on the screen registering as intermittent touches, multiple times a second, might.

You use your phone under the shower on a daily basis?
If so, why?
And more to the point of your question, do you talk on the phone or are you using the touchscreen to play games, use whatsapp or make... erm shower pictures?
How does the touchscreen react and work while it is still exposed to the permanent drizzle of water?
If you have this thing again I would suggest using the service menu (go to phone and enter *#*#7378423#*#* and run some of the service tests on the affected parts of the phone... You can also try the Xperia Diagnostics tool from the Play Store to almost the same effect.
What actually solves the problem when it occurs? Do you just wait it out and after 60 mins it is done? Or do you reboot when you notice it?
So is it even lagging after you dried your phone?
Do you clean your earphone output? This could explain why your videos are pausing on its own

Usually I whatsapp mostly. When the screen screen is totally wet, it still works pretty good, until little drops collapse into a single big drop; so I have to blow on my screen.
Reboot doesn't work, just have to wait it to stops.

Hello ppl!
Yesterday I was flying to Dubai, and desided to "kill" some of my spare time playing the "Mini Motor Racing" game.
Approximatelly after 20 minutes of playing, the screen suddently became unresponsive (no reaction whatsoever), although the game was running normally.
I tried to press the power button to switch off the screen, but it was not working either. Tried to press the cameta button, no result as well. NO command was functioning, not hardware, neither software buttons.
I left the phone to the side for 3-4 minutes (while the game was still running), and noticed that the phone temp had actually falled down a little. Tried the touchscreen, but it was still unresponsive. This time though, the power button worked, so I managed to switch of the game.
I left the device to cool down, and then tried to play the game again, but had the same results (only this time, the phone became responsive about 15+ minutes after I put it aside, and since I have been trying to switch it off without success, I intentionally tried many button combinations, and the only one that worked was vol+, vol-, power pressed simultaneously, which switched off the phone).
I thought that this was some kind of a software/compatibility problem with the game, so I tried to play "Reckless Racing 2". Guess what. THE SAME results...
Anyone else with the same problem, or is it just me?
I heard same with PLAY my friend has with playing her favourite game.. n she has now extra battery attached on back of PLAY which seems solved issue.. may be ICS update will rectify it.. wait for it n hold those games till then
same to me
I have the same problem with my xperia. I bought the phone on 25th of april and since the first day it freezes when i am playing games. First i thought it is overheating but then it started to freeze in the middle of play or when i start the game, everytime was different. Repairing with pc companion didn't solved the problem, factory reset didnt solved the problem, updatung the firmware to .73 didn't solved the problem. I found other people on the sony talkmobile forum with the same problem. After one month i gaved my phone to sony service center for repair. I will share the results wheh they give me back the phone.
I have videorecorded the freezing problem, you can see it on youtube.

Yeah, actually that's what did the trick, but didnt know it 'till then! I was just anxiously pressing buttons!
@globetrance: Does your phone do the same with ALL games? Even 2D ones? The only two actual 3D games that I have freeze the phone, but others, such as Stardunk (the game actually makes the phone boil, especially in online mode), Azkend, Machenarium have no problem!
It is a bit odd...
===EDIT===
I have already fully reset the phone and re-installed .73 from the begining, but the problem is here again!

Our phones freezing has nothing common with the temperature . Mine is freezing sometimes even @ 30 C. I think the problem is somewhere else, may be in the internal memory?!

@electrash:
Yeah, we seem to have the same problem. But this does not occur while playing 2D games (although the device heats up a lot).
Yep, I also have the yellow tint issue, which is getting worse every day.
It seems that ppl having this issue are "rare" to find, and that we are the lucky ones
I will take my SXS for service tomorrow to see what happens.
@globaltrance:
My friend, did you get your Xperia from service? Any news?
12 days have passed and i am still waiting for my phone. Tomorow i am going to check things out, but i think the phone won't be ready within next 20 days.
I think the freezing come cause dalvik vm is low in the build.prop
There is 2 value 32 and 48 Can someone set the 2 value to 64 and try again.

I am guessing that this procedure requires rooting, correct?
My SXS is not rooted, and I promised myself NOT to touch this baby, but if you believe that it will work, I'll give it a try!

My phone is not repaired yet. I have to wait more...
Оk folks, i've got my phone now. I'll make some test to check if it's going to freeze again while gaming. I hope not.
Perfect!!!
Let me know how it went. If it worked OK for you, maybe it's time to take my SXS to service for the yellow tint as well!
(Let me know if you get the yellow tint after service)
Ok, the phone is working perfect now, it's stable in games, but i have another problem. I found 4 dead pixels... There's no yellow tint. Their answer about dead pixels was that the pixels must be at least four per square centimeter for any service support. Now i have to wait for more dead pixels, and i hope the next will appear close to each other. Damn i hate this phone... Buying this phone was my biggest mistake.
I was very excited by the Smart Stay feature of SGSIII but after a few days, experience, my opinion is that it does not work. I set the timeout to 15 sec. The eye flashes in the notification bar but most of the time screen is turned off. I tried staring directly at the front camera. Tried various positions too but no result. And all this is done in a normal lit room. Then I tried removing my specs and then it seems to work. Since I can't do much without them, so no fixed observation. Can anybody help?

Any particular setting? Or particular angle at which you keep your phone? Mine for sure does not work. The eye flashes but then the screen is also turned off.
I have the same issue too. Does anyone know the issue and how to overcome it? Thanks
I get mixed results with it. It works under ideal conditions but I had to extend the dim period to use it in everyday use.
The icon appears to show that the phone is checking for a face and not confirming it saw one. I see it flash even when looking from an angle where I'm definitely out of the camera frame.

Me and a friend we bought s3 and both of us having an issue with smart stay !It works after you open the device for the 15-30 minutes and after that nothing, after the eye appears the screen goes off!We are not wearing glasses!!So any idea what cause that?A possible bug of it?Or any future update will fix it?
you guys running on XXfl2 or whatever it is?
smart stay works really well for me, never has an issue, even at acute angles
It never works for me.
Then again... I'm way to ugly for my phone to stay with me.
Smartphone's R getting to smart I guess.
Works great for me too...
Samsung already stated they are working on improving the feature as it is not yet capable of handling some light conditions, and most glasses.
Sent from my DROIDX
Works fine for me with glasses, as long as the phone's front camera is pointing right at me.
The flashing eye means its searching for a face; the only indication that it has recognised you is that the screen doesn't turn off.
Same issue!
Yup, facing the same problem. Keep staring at the screen for hours for the damn thing to work. But it just wont. I have tried with my glasses off. Got the same result. The eye appears on the screen twice. The first time it dims the screen, the second time it shuts it off. I have tried different angles, but have finally resigned to my fate, unless XDA/Sammy figure it out!
not working for me 2
I am not wearing any glasses but it simply dont wok tried to change the angels but no luck ... hope it need improvement. This was the main reason to purchase the s3 but....
Mine works quite well, feels like its abit of a battery drain though.

Samsung patented this feature so i guess the app dev is in a bit of danger unless he is not really rich.
Other apps wont be as good either, as smart stay was made with this hardware in mind (namely the camera). Others will have to bend and shape to fit multiple cameras, making detection algorithms not as strong.

Sounds like you're having the same problem as me. You only have a single line though, while 2/3 of my display is like this. Mine gets like this whenever it's a little under room temperature, and it's a hardware defect according to Sony.
Post some pictures though. It could be software related (if you're lucky).

My XZU has this 1x1 cms 'purple cloud' at top mid center of screen all the time. I see it at the phone boot animation also. Its not captured on screen. So I guess its an LCD burn mark
Its visible only at medium and high brightness on a black background. Not on white background.

Just checked out your video, and i'm having this issue too. That's called "ghosting", and that means that the response time of the screen has gone to hell. The issue gets triggered on mine when the temperature drops a little.
Try this:
- Is it functioning normally in room temperature? If yes, put the phone in your refrigerator for 2-3 minutes and see if it's still functioning properly. If not, well.. then you're having the same issue as me, and i've talked to Sony, and it's a hardware defect and you'll have to use your warrenty and get a new screen. I sent mine in for repairs today, so i'm crossing my fingers.
IF you decide to send it in for repairs, remember to call them and ask them to do whatever triggers the issue, or else they'll simply re-flash the firmware and call it a day. That's what happened to me the first time, and you don't want that to happen

Alright, so it's the same issues as i have, and it's a production error according to Sony, so you'll have to send it in for repair. This is strangly enough only the second case where this happens, that i've read or heard about (including my own Ultra), so it doesn't seem to be that big of an issue. It could simply be an issue on a batch of Ultras that we got. It's a really strange defect though.
Alright, so I got my Ultra back yesterday with a new screen, and the problem is solved. I tested it by leaving it in my refrigerator for about 5 minutes, and there were no signs of slowdowns or other defects, so that's the way to go

Are you on the latest firmware? I read that on earlier firmwares, if the screen is even slightly wet, from your facial oil or hand oil, or water, the screen will go wonky and operate on its own due to sensitivity issue.

Mines the dual sim variant, id be inclined to wait for android 5.1.1 though, 5.0 had/has many bugs.

OMG MINE DOES THE SAME TOO!! but i realised that it only happens when i adjust the white balance. After resetting it to 0, the flicker disappears, which is quite disappointing since i prefer a colder screen. Mine also has a slight yellow tinge at the bottom half of d display TT. Have communicated this to Sony support. Hopefully there is a fix soon.
Let's hope it's the settings.. But have had tested their sets in the Sony shops.. That happens as well... Unless they did some changes in the settings but I dun think so.. Cos their colours look like sh*t..

Contacted Sony support, will be sending in the phone tomorrow because of the light bleed and yellow display (bottom half). Just realised they specifically asked which color my phone was. Im guessing they segregated the displays by color, innolux on the white and truly on the black. Sighs.. will definitely ask them about the annoying screen flickering issue. In other news, read that the 5.1.1 update is coming for the c5U soon, fingers crossed.
Hey! When u have sent it in, let us know what they say about the flicker. Thanks!

Apparently its a software thing. But im not so convinced. Hopefully it is. They saw my backlight bleed and have agreed to replace the display under warranty. Lets see if there is a difference when i get it back next week. ><
