The title says it all:
Does the new I9100 Galaxy S2 have analogic TV-Out, via 3.5 jack ? Apart from MHL.
My I9000 Galaxy S has, and it works well with a Nokia CA-75U cable.
On gsmarena they only mention TV-out (via MHL A/V link) (and i'm not even sure what that means - a HDMI-out ?). Anyway, all i want is to connect the phone to a TV that only has RCA or SCART inputs.
Thank you.
I have report from an owner who is reliable that his Nokia 3.5mm TV Out cable is not working with the SGSII. I can confirm this tomorrow when I get my phone also.
If I'm not mistaken TV out is only supported via the miniUSB plug to a HDMI socket, with a 1080p maximum resolution. The cable doesn't come supplied with the phone though.
not working with the cable from my old n95. SGS1 did support this. Might be due to the cable being half broken, but I think it just doesn't support it.
I was hoping both methods were simultaneously available, like with Nokia N8.
Just to confirm does not work for me either (on the plus side my cheap Ebay USB OTG cable does work).
Damn. So it's either HDMI out (when they get around to releasing the adapter...) or nothing?
For full mirroring, yes. There is the option to share media via DLNA of course, but I suspect that like me you really need mirroring...

Is mirroring via MHL confirmed?
I have not seen a single video or post confirming this.
You're quite right, mirroring isn't confirmed.
OMG!bad news,s2 cant tvout via 3.5 jack to my old tv!
This way, they sort of make us buy a new HD tv with digital inputs...

I think that it is also representative of the new technology. Honestly, I think RCA connectors are outdated and doesn't really make sense.
RCA uses analog, and most TVs now-a-days are digital. Almost no technology runs on analog anymore, so for phones like Nokia to output RCA, it has to have a chip inside to convert from Digital to an Analog output... Then when it reaches your TV, if it is a digital tv, then it has to convert the analog back to digital. At this point - not only is the resolution decreased, but the signal starts to artifact from converting from digital -> analog -> digital again.
I guess this means that people have to upgrade from their CRT/legacy LCD tvs that only accept RCA/AV inputs.
And for the even older CRT TVs, too bad for them because there's no support for coaxial out.
Now that would be cool -- a coaxial out cable for old TVs, in case we ever discover time travel, and want to show the future to people from the 80s on a nice big 19" color CRT TV.

Just some warning - I'm not sure if that will work since it's not an MHL USB-HDMI cable.
If it works at all, it won't be able to charge your phone and display HDMI at the same time because of the way it's designed.
If you don't want to buy the real cable, I saw a generic version here:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/expansys-mhl-to-hdmi-adapter-black-218572/
If you wait another month (I believe June is the month that the supply is supposedly being produced), I think China will have some copies made soon. For complete functionality and compatibility, make sure the cable meets and complies with MHL standards.

HML tv-out adapter for sgs2. $78 on ebay.
The official Samsung HDMI adapter doesn't look to be out for quite a while yet but there's one by BizLite over at Mobile Fun that should be in over the next fortnight (website says 9-14 days)
Cheaper than the official one too. Agreed that it's quite annoying having no TV-out on the 3.5mm jack!
There is maybe a hope.
Exynos 4210 supports composite output. If SGS2 has connected jack 3.5 to Exynos Composite Video Output soldered, there is a hope.
Hi all I need composite video out to connect phone to car video system - so it`s my only hope to get it from 3.5 jack somehow... or is it possible to convert hdmi to composite or component?
Hey guys.
Long time G1/G2 user here...just cashed in on the Valentines Deal from T-Mobile and picked up the Amaze.
The associate @ the store here in Wilmington informed me that the Amaze has video out via micro HDMI...and same battery charger as the G2...?
My G2 charger seemed to work in the car, but after opening the one that came with the phone when i got home, I saw it looked a little different.
This was after I was all excited to hook up the phone to my Vizio LCD tv via a micro hdmi cable from newegg, but it didn't seem to want to fit properly. Is there a special cable I need or adapter require to hook up to a TV?
Thanks
You need a mhl adaptor

As stated, you need an mhl adapter for hdmi output.
As for the charger, it's a proprietary port on the phone, but it will also work with a traditional microusb cable.

Anyone have any first-hand experience using a proper MHL adapter for the Amaze? I'm very interested in buying one but have seen mixed reviews from this one: http://www.amazon.com/iKross-Jetstre.../dp/B005JZX5LC
I've seen other results on Google but no one really comments on having tested it with their Amaze. I've read reports of people using the HTC MHL adapter on their Evo 3D, saying the video looked pixelated. Has anyone found or used an adapter that worked well?
you can be the guinnea pig.
Hehehe, I'm hoping other guinea pigs who have tested will share!
Thank you guys for responding....appreciate it
I have used an MHL adapter
The one I have is from Tmobile. It works, but I just don't see the practicality of it. I used to have the G2X that required that micro HDMI to HDMI. That just required one cable. This time with the MHL adapter you need to not only have to have the MHL adapter, but you also need a normal HDMI cable and a MicroUSB plug to power the device. Without either you wont get any picture. It works like normal and honestly I don't see any difference between the picture of the Amaze with their MHL adapter and the picture of the G2X with their microHDMI. It works great, but the only set back now is the amount of cables needed for this feature now.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the adapter. Could you comment on the picture quality? Does a 1080p movie look 1080p on the TV?
Based on threads here and elsewhere, I found the HTC AC-M500 12-pin adapter (the correct one according to HTC), featuring their proprietary ExtMicro USB plug. I'd tried a generic 5-pin MHL-HDMI adapter from Overstock.com, and sometimes it would work, sometimes not. (I later determined that this was probably the fault of the Dell 24" monitor I have at work.)
There are 7 extra pins in the connector that I frankly don't know if they do anything; in prior threads someone identified them as supporting composite video (yes you read that correctly), stereo audio and a MIC. But the plug fits great, and on a Samsung 27" LED HDTV, the video looks as crisp as you'd expect. Is it worth $30+? Depends upon how often you want to use it. I hope to do presentations and playback with it.
If you want some detailed pics, look to my images posted to WikiCommons.

I'm not sure if it's the player of the Amaze that makes it less appealing or if I just encoded it wrong or if it's the limitations of the picture transfer itself, but it doesn't look "perfect" so to speak. Sometimes there's even a little audio delay that for some reason is more visible on the TV than it is on the phone. It still looks good and I imagine that if the right settings for video encoding come out it will look great, but don't expect BluRay quality from the phone.
I found that my Amaze has trouble playing 1080p without a stutter ... but it does that on the device as well as the external display. I guess those of us who want to do this regularly need to upgrade to the Edge/Endeavor this summer.
The MHL cable I had for my Sensation 4G works for the Amaze, I tried it out last night it worked with no problem.
Important question, when using a typical 5 pin MHL adapter, does the phone transmit audio over HDMI as well?
Along with that, if not, does the 12 pin adapter transmit audio? Thanks guys.

Does anyone know if the MHL adapter supports keyboard/mouse/monitor? If not, is there a dock or adapter that does?
Check Wikipedia for references on MHL ... my reading was that it was just mobile high-definition link ... that is, a way of getting hi-def video and audio OUT of the device, not networking IN some peripherals.

I agree. The HDMI connection on my G2x was a lot more simpler. One cord. I am considering being a guinea pig when I get my pay check in a week....
I purchased one of these from amazon.com it works perfectly, but I do agree, microHDMI port would def. be preferable to the extra cord + adapter...
Hello everybody!
I an an Android app developer and I would like to attach my Galaxy Nexus to a projector (with VGA input unfortunately) in order to present my applications to other people when they are many. In this case I don't want to just start a presentation or show images, but I want the projector to reproduce what the screen is actually showing.
Is this possible? If yes, how?
I've seen that in USA it is possible to buy a micro-usb to VGA adapter that works with Galaxy Nexus, but it is not clear to me whether I'm able to see the screen or only media files. I think that a special app is needed to show the screen, do anyone know which one?
I would look at getting a projector with an HDMI, that way you can hook up and HDMI and I am not 100% sure, may want to search online, but I believe it has mirror mode doesn't it!
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
VGA is analog and HDMI is digital, to convert between one another you'll need to find a unit that looks like a small box and requires power. Don't be fooled by cables that have HDMI on one end and VGA on the other, these are for desktops that support sending VGA over HDMI which isn't common.
Assuming it has no HDMI port, does it have a DVI port. DVI is just the digital video carrier of HDMI so a cheap pin converter cable will work.
i currently have a transformer prime and also have an aaxa p1 jr pica projector coming in the mail im hoping to set up something called the sixth sense device but im hoping to find a way to plug the projector into the transformer prime and im having a hell of a time trying to find a cable that will connect the 2
I picked up a converter from tiger direct.
Search for Sabrent HDMI to composite RCA/s-video. I've used it to watch movies on older TV's while traveling and it works great. the one downside I would say is that it requires power. But I believe thats the only option no matter which brand you go with.
I also picked up an RCA RF modulator to convert that to coax for real old equipment. it all works as expected.
thats what i didnt want to hear lolz i was hoping for something that didnt require additional power to make it mobile and like always i bought it before making sure it will work so i will need to just save up for a better portable projector that has mini/micro hdmi on it
A converter is the only way to go component. It sucks :-( . But if you don't want another power supply, pick up a HDMI to dvi cord and an headphone jack to l/r speakers.$20 bucks at radio shack.

Thank you for your query regarding your LG G3.
I have read through your email and I can confirm that you can output 4K from your G3 to your 4K TV using a MHL 3.0 adapter connected from the phone to your TV.
Depending on the 4K TV you have this may be automatically output to 4K or you may need to change the resolution settings to show a 4K video.
I hope my email has answered your query and assisted you today; I would really appreciate your feedback. Please help us to improve our customer service by completing the short survey after this email.

As a SlimPort spokesperson (and a new xda member), I can help to clarify the video output features for the G3. LG switched from MHL to SlimPort with the launch of the Nexus 4 in November 2012. All subsequent LG mobile devices are SlimPort-enabled. The G3 can shoot 4K videos. However, LG chose to not support the 4K output direct to the TV. The G3 will output full bandwidth 1080p video via the SlimPort/HDMI dongle. When connected to a 4K TV, the TV will detect the 1080p signal and properly scale it to 4K. To view the 4K content, the video must be transferred via USB to a media player that supports 4K. FYI – there are no devices that support both MHL and SlimPort.
Current certified SlimPort dongles on the market work with any SlimPort enabled phones. As mentioned, you can check with the SlimPort web site to get a current list of devices that support the format and of locations to order dongles. Last February, the SlimPort 4K receiver chip (used in the dongles), ANX7738, was introduced and you should see 4K dongle products on the market later this year.

Does seem odd that they said it supports 4k mhl, when the newer lg flagship phones claim to have ditched mhl in favor of slimport, maybe they know something we dont know, but i reckon it was a misunderstanding only. If it does support Mhl 3.0, this implies that the lg flagship series phones support usb 3.0, which we all know it doesnt simply because it does not have the 11 pin micro usb mhl connector, like samsung.
But interestingly enough, I do know that lg is considering usb 3.0 for g2 g3 and flex, simply because they actually HAVE added a NEW proprietary 11pin micro usb 3.0 port on all of these phones (take a look, you will see 3 extra pins on each side of the standard microusb tongue, deeper inside the connector, these are usb 3.0 lines!). Although this new connector is not compatible with mhl 3.0 connector, which implies it will likely support a different video out protocol like slimport 4k or 3.0 if you will.
Slimport 4k requires a higher bandwidth interface like usb 3.0, and since recent lg schematic drawings prove that they have wired up the new connector to handle usb 3.0, then once someone makes the 4k adapter and a mating 11 pin connector, we will then hopefully see all these phones capable of supporting 4k soon, in addition to usb 3.0 fast charging, and maybe even support usb 3.0 OTG interface!

The new dongles will work on the G3, however, 4K output is not supported by the G3 circuitry so the output would still be high bitrate 1080p. A 4K TV would detect the 1080p signal and scale it to 4K. Best to check with LG on their product plans for 4K support in the future.

It's confirmed the g3 supports slimport and not mhl. Zumashark is a spokesperson for Slimport and it's also listed as a supported device on the Slimport website. Although I also would have preferred mhl 3.0 as I have a 4K TV with mhl built in, which would have allowed me to control the phone using the TV remote when plugged into the TV and it would have charged the phone at the same time. 4K output was something I really wanted.

Just in case anyone else is looking around for info like this, as I am.. I found this after i read the above comments.
The MHL consortium announced a 3.0 spec on Tuesday, upping Mobile High Link's resolution support from 1080p up to 4K at 30 frames per second. Future Android phones and other devices that support the new spec will be able to push video at 3840x2160 while drawing up to 10 watts of charging power; they'll also support 7.1 surround sound audio and the HDCP 2.2 content protection standard. Of course, the 3.0 spec is mostly futureproofing, since 4K TVs are just beginning to show up in stores and homes.
MHL has found its way into more than 200 products at this point, with millions of devices on the market. SlimPort, by comparison, is available in only a few: Google's Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, the LG Optimus G Pro, a Fujitsu Windows 8 tablet and the ASUS PadFone Infinity. Last year Anandtech did a good job of summarizing what makes SlimPort different from MHL:
"SlimPort is a new video output standard which works over microUSB, and is effectively an MHL alternative based on the DisplayPort standard administered by VESA. SlimPort is offered both license and royalty free, and supports up to 1080p60 or 1080p30 with 3D content over HDMI 1.4 (up to 5.4 Gbps of bandwidth), in addition to support for DVI, VGA (up to 1366x768 and 720p at 60 Hz), and DisplayPort.
What's different about SlimPort from a user-facing perspective is that external microUSB power is not required for the adapter to work and is instead only required for optional charging. At the same time, the adapters draw no power from the source to operate."

I have a SlimPort adapter and it works really well with my LG GPad 8.3 V500 (rooted + custom ROM called CandyKAT that I compiled myself). I just plug it in and... there it goes : display duplicated on my TV.
I also have an MHL Adapter. If I use that with my Sony XPeria Z2 (rooted, stock ROM) I just plug it in and... voilà ! Display duplicated on my TV.
I try to use each one of them with my LG G3 (rooted ; stock ROM) : I either have : 1°) nothing happens AT ALL ; 2°) when I'm lucky, I get an image for 5 seconds and then "snow" on my TV ; image then comes back... and then snow and so on...
Nothing the like on the LG GPad V500 !!!
I have this LG G3 for about 12 hours... and I probably will NOT keep for more than that. Flawless MHL or SlimPort support is a MUST HAVE for me...
I just despise manufacturers claiming things that are simply NOT TRUE !
Unless of course SlimPort is supported only with a custom ROM installed !
Maybe there's an option that should be turned on to let the G3 work with either MHL or SlimPort... but I don't know which that would be
Regards.
I have a slimport adapter for my G3 on STOCK rom and kernel, and have NO issues whatsoever. There is no support or 'switch' for MHL on the G3 because the video out is hardware based, it's either SlimPort or MHL.
IMO, SlimPort is more promising and has more versatility than MHL:

I too have no problems with a cheap slimport adapter and my Samsung Smart TV 2014 series, the adapter only needs to be powered to work.
To be honest, the G3 also connects perfectly via Miracast protocol to the same Smart TV, so in this situation there should be no need of an adapter.
Hi 2kool4u and missionimpossible,
Thanks for your reply...
After reading your posts about making a LG G3 work seamlessly with a SlimPort adapter, I decided to order a new one on Amazon.
Maybe my adapter was faulty ? It may be, even though I don't think so : if I use this adapter with my LG GPad, it works perfectly and I have a stable image...
All I can tell is that I used this adapter powered and unpowered... same result
Anyways, Amazon offers this really nice ability to return products, so I'll have the opportunity to test it in depth... and I'll report as soon as it will be done
Regards.
This is what I bought from Amazon.
To work it has to be powered.
