Ok a few things to get straight. Recovery has nothing to do with root per se. BUT if you are not rooted, any custom recovery flashed via odin will not stick if the device is allowed to boot normally once.
I guess you are pretty new to this. Do yourself a favour and read through the threads in my signature. Then you will know what to do. In any case make sure what device model it is exactly you are using!

For doing this you will need original samsung USB cable and USB debugging ON...After doing this download latest version of TWRP or CWM and flash it via odin.In odin choose option PDA...If not there then choose AP and flash it via downloading mode. :good: and REMEMBER-Root is required
If u got success...hit thanks

I am sorry but that is not correct.
1) Any usb cable which is to specs will work (talking from experience)
2) USB debugging is only of concern when system (rom) is booted. So in download mode which is needed for odin it has no relevance.
3) ... and as I stated root is nice to have but certainly NOT required
Your two points are correct but third that u are saying root is not required....but for flashing custom ROM root is required....because in cyanogenmod I unrooted my device and after that my phone stopped working and twrp was also crashed

Your scenario is not an explanation of FLASHING a custom Rom. You can flash a custom Rom without prior rooting in a temporary recovery without issues. That rom however will most likely be rooted and unrooting THAT Rom as you did might crash things as you stated.
BUT those are two completely different things...
You can also check the first thread in my signature. It's in there too.

Flash cf-autoroot (specific file for s3 i9300) via odin and you are rooted. Simple.
Recovery and custom roms are by choice, not by force.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

Ok,
A few days ago I rooted my phone, but I didn't install any custom roms to it. Today I installed Rom Manager from Market and from there I installed ClockworkMod Recovery.
The only thing I cant figure out now is how to actually remove it again. I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227464, but doing what these guys says does not remove ClockworkMod Recovery from my Galaxy S II. I tried it three times now, and when I install Rom Manager from Market again it tells me that ClockworkMod Recovery is still installed (in top of the app after you start it.) I can even boot into it using the second choice in the app, without even touching to first one first.
Do I really have to flash the entire stock rom along with it's kernel to get ClockworkMod Recovery out of my way? I cant really find out anything about how to remove it from Galaxy S II, but I it would be great to know how to remove it just in case the phone ever need's a trip to the hospital.
This is the first time I'm playing around with S II, and I'm not very good at these things. Would be great if someone could help me out here.
Flash a stock kernel or another kernel?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
If the plan is to send it back you the shop you would need to flash a whole stock ROM with Odin
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Method depends on which model you have as the firmware you need to flash will be different
International or American seems to make a big difference. If you have an american model then maybe listing the carrier would help as well.
I tried to flash a stock kernel @nikzDHD, that was the content of the link I had in my first post. Didn't work. =(
Crap. I was hoping I didn't have to flash a stock rom since I'm already running it, but if that's the only way to get ClockworkMod Recovery out of my way I guess I'll just have to get it done.
The phone was bought in Norway, Europe and it isn't locked in any way. I flashed the kernel with Odin, so I would guess I could flash the rom with it as well? Is there any guides on how to flash a rom for the first time to Galaxy SII?
Thanks
I found this thread with stock roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 , but I'm not sure witch to choose.
My phone says after *#1234#:
PDA: XWKI8
PHONE: XXKI4
CSC: OXXKI2
Can anyone please tell me what rom to choose?
Edit:
I just downloaded a file I found here: http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/09/i9100xwki4-android-234-samsung-galaxy.html. After extracting it I flashed it with Odin, and everything looked fine. That version var 2.4 and I used Kies to update to 2.5, everything working great.
Now, the only problem is that I'm still not getting rid of that ClockworkMod Recovery. It's seriously starting to piss me off, that ClockworkMod Recovery thing. What I did is quite simple. First I deleted cache from ClockworkMod Recovery, then factory reset, turned off phone and booted into Odin mode where I flashed the stock rom from Odin on my laptop. But why the heck is Rom Manager still telling me that ClockworkMod Recovery is on my phone? I can't really understand why this is just not going where I want it - Off my phone.
Last edit:
Found another rom somewhere out there, flashed it, same result. The only thing is, Rom Manager is showing that cwm still is installed, but when I click the button to reboot into it, it just show some kind of error-message. I guess that's good enough for me, all tho I can't understand why that Rom manager app is telling me that it's actually there. :S
Happy new year!

Hi,
I also would like to remove completely clockworkmod and unroot my phone, I have searched and what comes to my knowledge so far is that I have to flash the firmware (the 200+MB file?) from phone (recovery mode, i would prefer this way as it seems really easy), flash stock kernel and reset counter using USB Jig (found on eBay or any other online electronic market).
I would just like to confirm if these are the steps to do a complete HARD reset (exactly like bought fresh from shop), not the reset set by phone itself.
PHONE TECH INFO:
BASEBAND VERSION:
i9100XXKI1
KERNEL:
(STOCK)
2.6.35*XWKI4
T-MOBILE -- UK
I only want to UNROOT and REMOVE CLOCKWORKMOD !!!
Thank you in advance !!
You'll be able to find your stock firmware on Sammobile.com. Search for it on there & follow whatever instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from there. Then do a factory reset, and if the flash counter in download mode is showing anything other than no/0, use the jig to reset same.

Thank you for your quick reply, but would it possible for you to give me detailed instructions on how to restore a phone to factory settings using Odin?
I have Odin, stock kernel, soon a USB Jig and several files within the range of 270MB and 300MB, they are:
GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKI4_I9100XEUKH2_I9100XXKI1.7z
T-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKI4_I9100XEUKH2_I9100XXKI1.7z
I9100XWKI4_I9100OXXKI2_I9100XXKI1.rar
I really want to UNROOT my phone and REMOVE CLOCKWORKMOD.
The instructions that you said to me in your post, in response to mine, made me even more confused.
Thank you in Advance !
Flash stock rom and ready!
I would like to know if this method worked for anyone and was the phone really turned back to the factory conditions or not
I am new to this and thinking of flashing a custom ROM trying to understand the consequences before i actually do the update.

ROM Manager is NOT compatible with CWM. It f*cked up my phone before. It somehow gives you two recovery images. For example, going to recovery mode from ROM Manager will take you to its personal CWM Recovery Image. But if you go to Recovery Image manually (Volume Up + Menu + Home), you will also be taken to a different CWM Recovery (the one you got by installing CF Root or a custom ROM with CWM Recovery... I know these based on experience. So what I do is that I only use ROM Manager for downloading stuff. And manually go to CWM Recovery (or use CWM Manager app) for backing up and restoring ROMs.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can remove CWM Recovery without getting rid of root. Some form of custom recovery always comes with a rooted device.

Detailed instructions for removing ClockworkMod - Help
Hello All,
I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S II (Sprint) right after I got it in 2011. Recently I upgraded to the SGIII so I want to remove my ClockworkMod and restore to Factory so I can sell the phone.
I've seen some instructions like "Flash with Stock ROM". I agree with others... sorry but that info just confuses me more.
Can anyone provide instructions? Clear, simple instructions? I tried finding stock firmware at SamMobile but I had no luck. How do I find the stock ROM for MY phone..a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II? How do I know if it is a P3100 or other?
Then ...once I have the Stock ROM, how do I "flash" it..what else do I need?
Then..steps to follow.
If you don't have time, do not reply. Like I said, "flash with Stock ROM" doesn't help me. If you can provide the info and steps, I'll be eternally grateful.
When I start up my phone and press Volume Up, I get the ClockWorkMod Recovery v5.0.2.7 screen. Does that mean my phone is still rooted? If so, how do I remove the CM Recovery?
Thank you,
Ken Arcia

Doesn't CSC or any other single one of the 3 files be enough to flash? Do we need to flash modem also to get the stock recovery back?
PS: none of the experts here could extract and make a flashable stock recovery installer, as a sample if not for each stock version?
recently i bought a SGA running stock 2.3.6 ... the problem is it isn't getting detected by "Multi_Downloader_v4.43" but it is getting detected by "Odin3-v1.85"
... what should i do???
this is seriously pissing off me cause i want to install custom rom to my SGA
this phone has a totally new downloading mode and boot loader menu... and the keys combination to get into boot loader and downloading mode are different from the regular galaxy ace
p.s the samsung usb drivers are on

I think you're getting on wrong foot here. Or did I miss something here? Why are you using Odin and multidownloader if you want to install custom ROM?
What I did when I was on stock, 1) Rooted my ace, 2) Installed custom recovery CWM, 3) Took nandroid backup from custom recovery of that stock ROM, 4) Flashed flashable zip of custom ROM..
That's it! You'll need to use Odin if your ace is bricked or something and you want to revert back to some stock ROM. AFAIK.

And, I don't think you can access bootloader in SGA. Get to download mode. (vol down+homebutton+power button) then you will enter download mode then connect it to computer. Althought I suggest using new roms that use CWM
I think your is s5830i or something. Check in settings, about phone, phone model or something like that. Unfortunately, you cannot install s5830's custom rom. Don't try if you are not s5830, it may brick your phone.

Device :samsung galaxy s 3 gt-i9300
android version : 4.1.2
baseband version :xxemg4

I am a newbie to rooting and custom rom flashing.
Recently I decided to install a custom rom in my phone as i was tired of the slowness and the lag from the samsung orignal jb version 4.1.2
I started of by rooting my phone on 27/9/13 usin odin 3 v 1.85 and the file CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar by selecting it in the pda options. i read the intrustions from android rooting .com .
but when i began to create a back up it gave me a warning in cwm manager v 3.60 that this version of cwm manager should be used with cf-cwm v1.1 or newer. it appears you are running a different recovery.various features have been disabled.
further when i restarted my fone in to creating back up mode it said cannot mount path.
Now i want a cool new custom rom in my phone and i dont want to screw up my phone.
I need advice on what should i do next?
is backing up my phone is really that important ?
now that my phone is rooted should i flash a custom rom?
if so which custom rom is the best in my case scenario?
i am completely new to this and i immediately stopped after doing what i just explained above.
Thankyou in advance for your suggestions and help.

never use cwm manager to flash roms/recoveries! as the phone is already rooted, flash philz recovery via odin(a newer version 3.07 might be better). then flash any custom rom(can not recommend one). check out the rom features in the respective thread and flash it on yours.

Your phone is now rooted but as it says unable to mount path. What do you mean to say unable to mount SD card??
well this had happened to me too... What I did is enabled the debugging mode from settings and again followed the steps of rooting phone assuming the phone isn't rooted. make sure your sd card is inserted while rooting.. after successful rooting you can again check it works or not... hope this helps you...

Hi all,
I recently got my stock I9100 from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 by flashing CWM Recovery with ODIN and then installing CyanogenMod. It's all working great and is so much faster and more stable than 4.1.2 has ever been.
Now I need to do the same for my partner's phone, also an I9100 on 4.1.2, as it has slowed to a crawl with constantly unresponsive buttons. Unfortunately the usb port is completely dead so ODIN is not an option. I've tried doing some research here and found Framaroot as an option for rooting but I couldn't find any clear answers on how to install CWM Recovery without flashing via ODIN. Could anyone link me to a thread or explain the best option for getting CWM Recovery on a phone without a usb port?
Many thanks.
(Disclaimer: I know messing with a phone that has no usb port is incredibly risky because it will be impossible to fix if bricked but she's planning on getting a new phone next week if this one is still as unresponsive and crash-prone as it is right now so it's not the end of the world if it dies!)

Since now you have root support, you could try using mobile odin or cwm manager to installer a custom recovery on your phone.

Thanks for the reply. I've looked into mobile odin now and from what I've read am I right in thinking that the process would be: Root -> mobile odin + flashkernel -> install cfroot with mobile odin?
edit: Would Flashify be a better option? I can't find a list of supported devices though.

I think using CWM manager will be the easiest option. Unless you also want to use a custom kernel, use CWM manager.

They are saying it is better to use a custom or stock kernel that has a built in custom recovery (which is very true). You can use Philz recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lz-cwm6-stock-kernel-cwm6-root-exfat-t1877270 and use mobile odin to flash the tar.md5 file as the PDA.
Help! So I rooted my Galaxy s5 using CF-auto-root and SuperSU and I flashed what I thought was CWM recovery from XDA, I installed mod manager which I then gave access to boot to recovery and now my phone is stuck in a custom recovery bootloop. Only if I remove the battery as it's about to turn off can I access download mode by holding relevant buttons but I am concerned that I have bricked my phone because there seems to be no stock recovery any more. Also mod manager listed TWRP as installed as well as CWM. Any help as to what I can flash through download mode or change files on my computer to help this problem would be appreciated. flash the stock firmware from sammobile.com/firmwares via odim, it packs the stock recovery also
You will have to flash the full stock firmware and start all over from scratch. Also don't waste your time with CWM. It is outdated and has not been updated in years.

Think that was given is not Samsung site. It is by someone else and we don't advise it's use.
It won't be hard to fix it but understand it will completely wipe your device.

I did make a copy of all my android files before rooting and took pictures etc off it. Ah, I see. Well even if it's the correct firmware I'd rather at least try that - any working phone is better than one with files stuck in a faulty recovery boot-loop.

Okay so installing the firmware worked AND it DIDN'T wipe my device, I've yet to check whether the device is still rooted - it probably isn't. Any advice as to the best custom recovery out there for my international s5?
Edit: SuperSU says my device is no longer rooted, I guess it's okay to flash CF-Auto-Root again?
Edit: I flashed the auto-root again and it's rooted, I just need to be more careful with an updated custom recovery.
