Hi!
Right now I use Amplify (paid) and Powernap to save my battery phone.
I was thinking to use greenify (bought version) too, but i do not know if it will be usefull:
Powernap stop pretty much all the apps to wake my phone (except whitelisted ones)
While Amplify let me block system and whitelisted apps to wake my phone too often.
Does greenify would be usefull?
Will it have problems with these two other apps?
thanks a lot!

You don't require all three. One or a maximum of two will do. What those are will depend on your usage, setup, phone, ROM etc.
I am using Amplify and Greenify along with LeanDroid. Now the battery stats shows a horizontal line when the phone sleeps. Previously I used PowerNap also.
Amplify limits the Wakelocks and alarms whether the phone is awake or asleep. Greenify hibernates apps that are no longer in use and using Aggressive Doze, it completely stops wakelocks and alarms during sleep. LeanDroid controls your WiFi and data and stops them when you no longer use them.
This combination works perfect for me.

That's amazing! I'm curious to find a little more out about your setup! What's your device? You on Lollipop or Marshmallow(if so, doze?)? And mainly what are your settings for Amplify (or where did you find a guide that went over the settings?)?

I'm on 5.0.2
For amplify i do not have followed any guide, i just limited any "safe" service, wakelock and alarm (custom time instead of 240s, from 300s to 900s, depends on how much i care for it), plus all the "unknow" ones who drained my battery (standard timer for that)
But remember that this is a "best case", so no app in background, strong wifi signal, night (so less push notification from IM apps and mail), etc, in everyday use it's not as good (still really good, but no 0.3%/h XD)
here you are some screenshoots of amplify: http://imgur.com/a/3Il0l

On average I lose 1% battery a hour with screen off. In good wifi/cell reception that is.
What do you folks do?
advance task manager works great, set it up to kill all apps at screen lock
1% an hour sounds about right. I'm not sure you're going to get much better than that. You could check out the battery drainers thread for info on finding wakelocks.

seem to help mine....
Its been discussed a number of times in various battery related threads. The issue is that you end up killing a lot of tasks the phone needs, so it has to restart them all the time, which is less efficient than leaving them running. If you have a rogue app draining your battery becuase it isn't shutting down there are better ways to deal with it.
Is this 1% an hour drain with the radio on or off? Ill have to check what mine gets with it on, but when i turn my radio off i get 1% drain every 4 or 5 hours

Hello there
I am aware that the Galaxy S3's battery isn't that great, but I have held an HTC One X for a while (which has an even worse battery) and it was actually much better than my S3's. The problem with the S3 is that it drains really hard while the device is actually SLEEPING. Like this morning I got up at about 9 AM and the phone was charging all night so it was 100%, so I decided to unplug the device and leave it till I got back (about 5 hours later) and it was already down to 89% or so. How does that happen? It's supposed to last much longer than that while it is sleeping, correct?
Here are some screen shots from Battery Stats Pro which I believe is the best battery application.

The developer of Battery Stats Pro is advertising another application for saving battery, I may go ahead and give it a shot but I remember trying a similar application on the HTC One X before which made things even worse.
I have been on the leaked 4.2.2 for a while now but the battery draining problem has been there ever since I got the phone, on 4.1.2, and I have tried many custom ROMs as well as deodexed 4.1.2, 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 but the problem remains, to a large extent, the same.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? I don't have local warranty because I purchased the device from abroad and I don't want to invest in another battery if it's going to be the same.
Any information and/or advice are much appreciated.
Thank you.
I forgot to mention that I have read a lot of guides regarding better battery times and modified the settings in order to achieve that, like Auto screen brightness, lowering volume, disabling touch sounds, haptic feed back, vibration, key-tap sound/vibrate and other things. I also changed Facebook's Refresh Interval settings from 1 hour (which I forgot to change) to Never; the only client that I set to Push is my hotmail account because I really need it.
Do you have a anti virus? They usually keep the four cores working all the time.

is the charger you're using samsung's original one?
On many devices i so this and i can tell you that you need to find the problem, but if i see right just try to uninstall Facebook (one of the bigger drainer) and the test it. Any app that try to connect to internet, even if wifi or data connection is off is a battery drainer.
Thanks for your replies. No i do not have an anti virus. Yes i am using Samsung original charger which is plugged in the wall port directly. Finally i do need Facebook and wouldn't want to in uninstall it but I'll give it a shot. Would i have to remove Facebook messenger as well?
my facebook runs all the time i connect to internet! that's not a problem. if you are rooted, you can manage start up programs using es task manager for example.

i was having the same problems
i uninstalled the facebook app and just use facebook through a browser.. not that seemed to make it any better .
i also downloaded DS battery saver and set it to aggressive over night(need to manually set it every night though) .. didnt pin point the problem but stops it draining over night
@negri I did the exact same thing. I set DS Battery Saver to aggressive overnight and it works wonders, although as you said, it does not point out the problem. I am assuming, though, since all DS Battery Saver does is turn off mobile data overnight while the screen is off, maybe Mobile Data just uses a lot of battery and there's nothing we can do about it. It's either that or some applications are constantly connected to the internet all the time.
Try turning off mobile data/WiFi until you need to use it.

facebook and others app cause various wakelocks, syncs, etc, causing power consumption and battery drains. (look logs in your monitor battery stats and analysis it)
"i do using greenify too, it's better than traditional battery savers or task killers.
u can use greenify, but to use the real potential of this app, you need root to full hibernation. look the apk developer instructions and tips.
best regards"
you can try too battery saver with profile battery settings based in time or battery level scheduling.
greenify hibernate (just "zzz", not freeze or kill apps) users and system apps (system need root).

So as of recently my battery life seems to be just terrible. I haven't done anything weird or started using any apps that are doing things in the background to drain my battery. I've been using the Devil kernel on and off (i thought it was having a negative effect on my battery life, but even a stock CM doesn't last long.
I should also not that when my battery does get to about 2-3% or less when im using the phone the screen brightness will start to flicker, and that if i turn my phone on after the battery having died in most cases if it tries to boot it results in a bootloop which is only fixed after i have wipe my data partitions.
Here are some screenshots of my battery stats from my usage this morning (and a few others ive taken):

I haven't even had the phone a year is something wrong with the battery or phone maybe? Im tempted to see if i can get it fixed under warranty...
Not really relevant but it also has a shattered screen
Something could be off with the media process. Try without an sd card. Some people (myself included) have had problems with the sd card being unmounted and mounted again, causing the media process to rescan the whole sd, huge battery hogger.
Edit: also try using better battery stats (free on the xda android apps section) to see if you can identify the problem.

at the moment i don't have an sd card installed, i did have one but took it out to use it for other stuff. Will try better battery stats and see if that gives me any more info as to where all my battery is going.
The Android OS stat being so high compared to Screen (normally the largest consumer) suggests you have something running. If you tap the Android OS line it will open and show you what is running. That gives you a start on what should or should be on. Haven't used Better Battery Stats but ES File Explorer and ES Task Manager are good tools, and I have Battery Booster which can Optimise the system by killing unneeded apps. Also DL Greenify - if hibernates apps and saves memory and battery without affecting performance noticeably.
note: I like ES Task Manager because you can kill apps then hit refresh and see which ones restart - lets you have a good idea what is needed versus what hasn't been closed after use.
So i ran my phone from 100-5 and had better battery stats measure things, i took some screenshots can anyone see anything unusual?

use an app like GREENIFY to hibernate the apps when not in use. if that doesn't help, change the kernel to like siyah and check the battery performance. if this is common on any custom rom and custom kernel, flash a stock ones and return to warranty and handle the phone to service center. :good:

well, the most wakelocks are caused by Maps, but your CPU governor is messed up - your CPU is at the max power almost always. What kernle are you using and are you using any CPU tweaking apps?
Maps seems like the cause:
Your stats show 4 hrs in deep sleep and about 3 hrs awake, but only 22 minutes of screen time.
And amongst the wake locks (stuff keeping your phone awake) maps seems like the winner, with skype following close by.
You need root, the following things should help:
Try converting maps to user app (not installed to system) and try the app greenify to suspend it while not being used. Or freeze it directly with titanium backup and unfreeze only when needed.
Try turning off wifi and gps location off unless you need some app to know your location (in adjustments).
Also use some cpu speed control app. You can limit your max cpu speed to 1ghz or lower without loosing performance (unless playing heavy games). Also you can create a cpu profile with about 300mhz when screen is turned off, which is enough for music playing.
Strange seems like my cpu doesn't want to scale down from 1400mhz, its just sitting there constantly :| back on the stock kernel now btw
Fot those who have the SmartBand, how does it affect battery life? Do you use it 24/7?
I use it 24/7 and have noticed zero difference in battery drain..due I believe to Bluetooth 4.0. Battery is so good on this phone it honestly never was even a worry for me.

Yes I do..
I started using the smart band days after the phone. So again I don't have much to compare to. I use my phone a lot for web, texting, some calls and stream music most all day. None of it on WiFi. Take it off charge at 6am. Home from work at 5pm always with over 50% battery left. Go to bed about 11pm using it all night with 25% or so.
Now you have me curious. Maybe I'll go a day or two without...just haven't ever thought about. Battery is killer.
Lifelog drains battery - yeah...
Just check Power Management and you'll see it - for me it was always "nr 1" on consumption list, above screen and I always use 70-80% screen brightness...
I'm not using lifelog anymore, I simply don't need it..
I have smartband for notifications and I'm very satisfied with it.
I even sold smartwatch when I "found" smartband.
It was sitting in box and I thought it's only for fitness...boy how I surprised when I tried it

Just got my smartband and it comes in handy a lot. I keep it all on except for locations.
I noticed a battery drain but a lot of comments on the play store say it's the latest update of lifelog which is the reason for it.
You need to go to the logger settings and disable physical motions on phone to stop the drain. It's just for car and cycle logging anyway, which doesnt even seem to work so well.

@Sichroteph No problem! There's quite a few hidden settings like this in sonys apps. It's always worth having a search for them.
If you are interested I spent a couple of hours building a no battery draining Tasker app that lock your phone when the smartband is too far. (root required)
It can also detect the day or night Mode for special phone actions (sound mute, dim screen light, Airplane Mode etc...)

still almost double drain and wake every 5 and a half min from sleep. Not sure the band is worth it - for me. I just enjoy being able to have it in my bag/backpack and getting vibrations for calls/notifications. oh well. not the place to rant about functionality.

My Z2's battery is draining really, REALLY fast. In a normal day I only use it to check whatsapp sometimes and mostly to hear some music.
I have Existenz 3.5 installed on my phone and I thought it might be rom related issue so I clean install a couple of times and nothing happened. Then, I checked on the battery stats and saw that the Whatsapp was the app that was consuming the most amount of battery (30%) then the Google Play Music (around 9%) and so on... So I decided to greenify Whatsapp... Still the same thing.
While all this happened I should say that auto sync was disabled, I was using 2G, the minimun brightness and barely turn my screen on.
After all this happened I decided to put the phone into Android's battery saving mode, still nothing happened. I don't now what to do, I also already calibrated my battery.
Is this soft-hard ware related problem? What should I do?
P.S.
I'll post the screen capture as soon as my phone wakes off it's dream.
How old is your phone?
Try to uninstall whatsup (or freeze) for one day and check the results.

Sound like the mobile radio active bug. Go to Settings -> Power Management -> Battery Usage and have a look at whatsapp. Does it look like my image below (note mobile radio active for hours)? If so, it's the mobile radio active bug and it's an android bug. You'll need to kill whatsapp or toggle mobile data on and off.

I bought my phone in February so I guess it's not that old. I already froze WhatsApp on Greenify.
Yes, the bat stats look like that, radio usage is waaaaaay big. But that workaround haven't helped me since I've been toggling it a couple of times per day (I go to college then to my home)
Something weird is that yesterday when I was at work sometimes I started to feel the heat on my leg and then I take out my phone and put it on my face, so I can now the temp better, and it was hot. I don't like that because I'm only listening music, c'mon
Thanks for the help.

There's a Xposed module that may fix the problem for some people, you could try that.
Or turn mobile data off when you're not using it. And greenify doesn't kill an app or helping this issue at all it needs to be forced stopped.
Finally the heat could be related to this issue. The problem is that the phone keeps powering the antenna when it shouldn't be.

If you observed in first start in Lollipop rom strongly heated and first run it takes a lot of time but in kit kat based rom phone isn't heated stronly and first run loading very fast. From this we can see lollipop battery drain

I too had that problem. Try charging it too full and using battery callibrator callibrate it. Do a complete charge. U'll face severe drain after the first cycle of callibration. Then you'll get good battery life
