Stock Andriod Upgrade to Lollipop of Rooted VS985 ..... Confused. - Verizon LG G3

Hi, i am rooted VS985 with king root, installed TWRP and on Stock 4.4.2 and rooted for deleting all pre loaded verizon and amazon apps and did some changes in system folders like hidden menu etc .. all deleted not today when i connected my PC software assistance tool , it says update is available.. see thumbnails
Now, i am confused if i update my rooted device , can i brick my phone?
please someone guide me, should i go for this update or NOT??

If you ran the update through the tool it would fail since you are rooted and don't have stock recovery installed anymore. It's good practice to never update the phone via OTA or tool if you are rooted and/or have a custom recovery installed.
To update to the latest firmware, use twrp to flash the 35B (5.1.1) version of Skydragon, jasminerom, or xdabbeb's in the Verizon G3 android development section. All are stock based ROM's and run great. 5.1.1 has been a godsend for this phone. Much smoother and better battery life.

Need up to date instructions on rooting and Installing Custom Rom

Alright I've had the G3 for almost 6 months now and am finally ready to root and put a custom ROM.
Now I have rooted and put on customer recoveries and ROMS on all of my phones (HTC Supersonic, Galaxy S2 & 3, HTC M8).
I recall when the root was finally obtained you needed to use something called bump and ROMS need to be Pre-Bumped for it to be installed.
Also I've read about partitions and if they're not done correctly you could brick the phone.
I see that the official Lollipop build has been released and I would like to do this right the first time.
Any list or set of what steps to take to prevent any kind of catastrophic failure would be appreciated.
I have posed similar question in the Dev section...
There is no root for ZV6, but you can downgrade (following instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/help/frequently-questions-sprint-lg-g3-t2866690) to ZV4 then update with the available rooted stock ZV6 or other custom rom.
AFAIK, no-one has posted if the stock ZV8 can be rooted, whether we should take the OTA update or ???
Or we have to follow the instructions above and go ZV4 to ZV8.
I'm on ZV6 and have not yet done the downgrade/root...
@dcmasta: You're probably on version ZV6 of the KitKat ROM. If you're still on ZV4, skip step 1.
1. Use LG Flash Tool to revert to ZV4. More recent versions of the ROM are not rootable: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...de-how-to-restore-sprint-lg-g3-ls990-t2852042
2. Use Stump to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906
3. Install the current version of TWRP, which is already "bumped": http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129
4. Install SuperSU. If it prompts you to update the binary, do so: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
5. Use TWRP to make a Nandroid backup of your phone. I would suggest using Titanium Backup to back up your apps and app data (not system data). It can make switching to a new ROM much easier, but note that restoring from a KitKat ROM to a Lollipop ROM may be problematic.
Peruse the Sprint G3 Android Development and Original Android Development forums and find a ROM you want to try. All the available ROMs for the Sprint G3 are pre-bumped.
If I've missed anything, I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Error 7 after downgrade to 4.4

I have installed gohma 2.3 custom rom with twrp recovery and root and have taken gohma-gwatch-1.2 to get back 4.4 stock with stock recovery and unroot.
After that I clear all inside the recovery to have a fresh stock without old data. I got the setup and the paring to the phone and after I check for an update the lg told me that one is available and start the download.
After it was finished the watch boot into the recovery and start the flash but aborth with an error 7 message
Can anyone explain me why? After I start the watch again the update told me that 4.4 is latest and there is no update available.
The OTA is from 4.4 to 5.0.2 but now I dont get 5.0.1 like before. Another watch work fine with this method but why this one not? Andy ideas please
Same issue here. Returned to stock on 5.01 and when upgrading to 5.02 I get that error 7. Tried everything, wiped several times but no way to install.
thats strange because my own watch work fine with the downgrade and changing the recovery back to 4.4 stock. My dad can use the watch with 4.4 but I dont understand this :crying:
Solved. Used RootJunky v8 to go back to stock 4.4 and then flashed OTA 5.02. Worked.

but I cannot extract without crc error :crying: can you please do a mirror for me?

Thank you sir :highfive: , you just saved my LG G Smartwatch!!! i wasn't able to update to smartwatch to the newest android wear 5.0.2 update without getting error 7 on recovery, i was using the LG G watch restore tool v9.5 to restore my watch and kept getting the Error 7 when trying to update, so i stumbled upon this forum and decided to use the v8 of the tool instead of the v9.5 and it worked perfect, i was able to update my watch to 5.0.2 without any errors :victory: i will share this news with other users that are in the same boat as i was and will give you the credit bro... awesome find really!!!

[Q] Stock Lollipop firmware complete factory reset?

A friend of mine has a Verizon GS4 and is trying to run the OTA update, but for some reason his device status is Custom so the update won't go through. He's fine doing a factory reset. Are the Lollipop files available yet, and, if so, is it possible to flash them without being rooted or having any recovery installed whatsoever?
Basically, can a Verizon GS4 have 100% stock Lollipop flashed over an existing 4.4.2 installation without custom anything?
lollipop files aren't even out yet, nobody captured the ota
best to probably odin back to a 4.4.2 ROM so you can start off clean

Just got a G3. Have questions.

I just received my G3 today and was working to get it rooted and TWRP installed. I am on 23C and got root and TWRP installed. I'm still on the stock rom and just got prompted for a software update. What is this update (24B)? If I take it, does it get rid of my root and TWRP? Do I need to take this update for some custom roms?
Never accept an OTA with a custom recovery installed. It will hose your device.
I highly recommend moving to a debloated, rooted stock ROM, like Jasmine or Skydragon, if you want to stick with stock at this point. You won't have to worry about the OTA update nagging you, even when Verizon/LG push one.

Are you on VZW with a valid SIM card and are you on stock, unrooted and it's not modified? If any of your answers to even one of those questions is a "no" that is why. Considering you're still on Lollipop and MM has been out for a long time, my feeling is you have a modified image of some sort. If you rooted and then just removed root without flashing back to stock, that won't do it. Once rooted, you have modified the system partition of you phone and it will no longer accept OTAs.
If you have reflashed to stock, what did you use? From what I remember, if you used an earlier KDZ image before Marshmallow, there is a particular KDZ image that was based on a pre-release version I believe and it will NOT allow OTAs to come through.
You can always flash the latest MM image via KDZ but it's like a factory reset so back up all data (photos, etc) on your internal memory before you do it.
This thread explains how to flash via KDZ if you don't know how:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140
You can get the latest KDZ images from here:
