I bought a Verizon prepaid Moto E on Bestbuy for 10 dollars, but I don’t a Verizon sim card. I just want to use it as a music player or something else instead of a regular phone. My question is that will it boot up and work without a sim card in it? Thanks in advance!
yes, i'm using it right now without one
xDark_ I want to buy one of these from Best Buy as a MP3 player for my kid. Anything special you need to do to bypass activation screens, etc. to get the device to work as a non-phone/cheap WiFi access device?

All you need to do is remove the VZ SIM (if it's inserted), then keep the phone on airplane mode. It doesn't block you from using it without a SIM.

nope! just skip activation and you'll be fine. it'll keep nagging you to get a plan if you have the Verizon SIM inside, so take it out but then you'll have a persistent no SIM card notification

is there a way to unlock this device from AT&T carier to any GSM without buying a code from the offered sites??? maybe some playing with the boot or something...
As of yet I don't think there has been anything on this method of unlocking. There is another thread here about unlocking the phone, but I can't link it right now. Pretty much all I can say is wait and see what happens. I think we might be stuck for the next couple months untilled at&t decides they want to let us unlock the phone.

Did his $10 code work or did you have to use the upgraded, more expensive service? Thanks a lot. I'm currently having all sorts of issues trying to unlock my phone from eBay.
The $10 code worked right off the bat. I paid for the item, and got the code in my email in 10 minutes. Plugged in a decrepit SIM from my trip to Singapore, and the phone came up with the SIM unlock prompt. The code was accepted with no issues.

Ah, thanks. I guess mine is just in that 1% that cannot be found in the normal database. Guess my only option is to pay for the expensive unlock... bah.
What Excatly does unlocking the HTC Aria do?
What does buying this unlock code do for the HTC Aria, what benifits would a user gain from this? Would i be able to change my boot screen, cause i would love to do that
It'll allow you to use the phone on a non-AT&T network. I'm trying to get mine on T-Mobile, to be specific.
@chaley80 - What you're looking for is referred to as "rooting" the phone. Basically, you need to have superuser access to the phone, to allow you to modify things like the boot animations. There are instructions on here. Its very easy with Revoked. All this type of unlocking does, is what shirleeey said, just allow you to use it on foreign GSM cell networks.
after a few months you can call up at&t and ask them for the unlock code, they have to give it to you

That's true if you are an AT&T customer, but if you're like me, I've never had my Aria on the AT&T network so I had to Sim unlock it as soon as I got it, over a year ago Cheers.
Going along with unlocking it, would it be possible to use the Aria SIM free? E.G. with just the basic functions, no cell radio, but it should still be able to connect to your home wi-fi. Almost like an android ipod touch in a sense. I think that'd be pretty cool.

Just turn the phone on without a SIM card inside it.
If you're on a stock ROM it'll need to be activated with one first.
Then after it's activated you can leave the SIM out as long as you don't wipe data/factory reset
Let me rephrase that slightly, would there be any way to get rid of the "insert SIM" message?
@WinSuk: I'm running CM7. (Going to try your CM9 as soon as headphones work. Excellent job BTW )
I knew that I could take out my SIM card and my phone would still work, just wasn't sure to what extent. I figured there was something I would have to flash or other.
Thanks for your time,

Sorry for the confusion. I don't know if you can hide that message, but the phone otherwise is not limited in any way.

It's chill. I see; I did do some browsing around, but there was no specific way to hide the message... at least none that I could find.
I'll be getting a new phone in a few months, but still wanted to keep my Aria to mess around with, hence my question.
Once again, thanks for your time,

When i bought my note II, i just took it home in the box from VZ and then stuck the sim card from my galaxy 3 into it and i was good to go immediately.
Now, I want to give the G3 to my wife to replace her aging droid charge but that has the bigger sim card.
Do I just go to VZ and ask for a new smaller sim?? She has unlimited data and I don't want to take any chance on screwing that up??

Sorry I don't have any information to help you, but did you purchase your Note II at full retail price?

Just call them and tell them you need a sim card for your wife phone... give them her phone number and let them know that all you need is the sim card, that your not upgrading or anything . That you just need a sim card. I bought my note 2 and I was on a s3. My note 2 didnt come with sim so I had to use my s3 sim card. I went to the vzw store and told them I need a sim card for my s3 just in case I wanted to add the s3 and they gave me one.

Just stop by any Verizon store and explain your story and they will sell you one for about $12 +/- and you'll be good to go. It won't affect your unlimited data. :good:

Its no big deal, but I thought they where free from VZ??
A new SIM card should be free. Call them up and tell them you have a new phone to use on your line but need a smaller SIM, or just stop by a store and get one. Shouldn't take long and shouldn't affect your data plan either. It may take a few hours to restore full service once you get the new SIM though, just be aware of this.

Will the sim cards sold by net10 work in the HTC One, its a verizon phone but not using verizon anymore, And if so, will I need to be unlocked?
Or does anyone have another way to get my phone working again without a contract or an expensive monthly bill, im all ears, thanks.

Yes, it'll work. The phone is already unlocked.
Are you able to take the Sim card out of your phone and put it in the watch for standalone use? Also, can you trim a micro Sim to a nano Sim? I've trimmed a standard Sim to a micro Sim before, just not a micro to a nano.
I just want to be able to swap the Sim from phone to watch and watch to phone when I want to and avoid having to put a plan on the watch.
On at&t at least, you can do that.. Not sure about other carriers. Trimming a micro to nano is possible, but the contacts on a micro are larger than they are on a nano, so you have to cut it precisely to avoid having a part of the contacts exposed at the edge. Then you need to get a really good nano adapter b/c the cheap ones don't fit well, and can catch the sim pins on the phone & ruin your sim tray
Had anyone tried moving their SIM card from phone to watch and back again? Sometimes I'd like to leave the phone at home but still be able to make a call in a pinch.
I was thinking about going to AT&T store to swap my micro SIM card for a nano SIM card. Then I'd use an adaptor to put the card back in my Note 3.
Thanks.
Kory
Hey, I have a S5 and plan on putting a nano sim in it. I already ordered the adapter and waiting for it to come in.
I plan on walking into att and asking for a nano sim. I have an iPhone 5 to carry in if they ask why.
But i don't plan on daily swaps.

The best would be to clone your sim, but that's illegal of course
Yeah, I know. Not doing anything illegal in here.
But i did walk into at&t and got a new nano sim and ordered the adapter for really cheap online for my Galaxy s5.
It all works and easy to switch back and forth. I'll go for a run tomorrow and try streaming Milk misic, while rumning gps and S health.

So have you done this? Is everything working okay when you switch back and forth?
I was able to pop in the sim. Run, stream milk music, and S health. BUT, it wouldn't sync the S health data, for that run with my phone.
I think the optimum setup for me is to use the Nike app and music stored on the watch for my runs. Streaming milk burns the battery, and I need the power if I have to call for help.
My runs can be hazardous, so I have been focusing, lighting, self defense, and layering up against the cold.

Instead of constantly doing this, why note just order a H2O SIM and get a basic plan for it.
You can get a 90-day plan for $10. It's probably all that you need, assuming you don't burn through data like crazy on the watch. Seems a lot more sensible than switching SIMs around constantly and risking damage to the phone. Those SIM adapters are all kinda risky in my opinion. I had to repair an S4 that one of them damaged a few months ago.
Don't quote me here- i BELIEVE the watch doesn't even need to be SIM-unlocked to use H2O. That's the case with most AT&T devices and H2O because they use the same network and similar APNs. I got my AT&T Gear S unlocked on day one though so I can't test that for you. You can also call AT&T or go on their site to request the unlock code if needed, assuming it was bought off-contract.
I was using T-mobile for a while but at $20/month after fees it just wasn't worth it. H2O all the way for me.

No don't need a unlock att gear with h2o......i also went h2o....just pop in the sim....they walked me on the apn settings at the dealer store and I was good to go. The only thing we could not get was mms...but that was not big deal for me.
My end goal is to purchase an unlocked Gear S and use it as an always on hotspot for another device that I always carry with me that needs wifi. I also want to use the Gear S as a stand alone phone. Iv'e seen the hack that will allow one to register it without ever using a phone.
I currently have an account with T-mobile. 2-lines, $100, unlimited voice/data - I don't want to change my plan.
Is there anyway to somehow exchange the sim from one phone (through T-mobile or other means) for a nano sim that will fit in the Gear S without changing my plan or number? - Thanks Community!
You can get a sim card cutter for under $10 on Amazon, and just cut your sim to fit. That's what I did with my SIM when I upgraded my main phone.
However, AFAIK, there is no way to make the Gear S be a hotspot.
Also, if you have a wearables plan, you get locked out of it as soon as you put the respective sim card in anything but the Gear S. I tried to use mine in the LG watch urbane, after I was assured by Tmo CS that this would work, and it completely blocked my wearables sim, which I am now waiting to get reprovisioned.

I know of one single person whose wearables sim did not get blocked when he moved it from his Tmo Gear S to the LG WULTE2, so there is a tiny, tiny chance that it may work for you. It didn't for me and others.
