I am new to all this techy stuff, if you may. I'm learning and eager to do so at that. I don't know how to use this site. I'm trying to understand but it's frustrating sometimes. I originally got here bc I wanted to download a zooper widget. Now I'm here and don't know anything still. Please help.

Thanks for the link and I have already searched the forums but I don't want to develop an application and I've already downloaded the SDK. I found This but didn't really understand it. I was hoping someone might be kind enough to walk me through where to begin.
figure it out yourself, it's not teachable ..
Yeah ok...
Thanks for the help
boy i sure am glad that some people were born knowing everything. look markspark i'm in the same boat as you, trying to figure this stuff out but some people decide they would rather be rude, if i knew how to do it i would do my best to point you in the right direction but then again i'm not full of myself.
best of luck to you my friend and if i figure it out i'll make a post on how to build an android rom and then make some youtube videos or something, but like i said i'm not full of myself.
Hey guys! I don't want anyone to see this as fishing for compliments or thanks, so let's kill that idea first.
I was recently nominated and accepted as a Recognized Contributor here on xda, so I just wanted to kinda give you guys a formal and friendly introduction.

I've been an Android geek for nearly two years now, and have absorbed a lot of information in that time. While I may not be able to build my own rom or submit fixes on github, I do retain information very well and try to help out everywhere I can. I just want everyone to know that if you guys ever need help with something or just need a little guidance, feel free to ask me and I'll do the best I can to respond in a timely manner. I know the big world of root and custom roms can be a bit daunting at first, but that's why we help our newer members learn rather than gripe at them.
You guys can either post questions here or PM me, but I do ask that you try and figure it out on your own first. You'll learn a lot more that way. I promise, that's how I learned everything I know.
Devs, this goes for you too. If you need a last minute tester for something, I'm almost always available to help. I'm willing to switch roms on a dime and flash/push files to the phone. I'll be putting my GTalk ID on my profile soon, so you guys can reach me if need be.
I hope I can be as useful as possible to you guys! Happy rooting to you!

thanks brO!! its nice to see there still are some decent people who are here to help.. i respect that..
same here...good to see some more help for sure. But anyways ive just got one question here for ya and you may or may not be able to help me. ive tried to ask this in the forums and haven't got an answer so here it goes.
My phone gets warm up around the camera area almost immediately it seams like. it starts when i start using data such as scrolling around Facebook or downloading an app, etc...and was just wondering if that's normal or should i get a replacement? $590 bucks is a lot for a phone and i just want it right ya know.
Now the only reason i ask this is cuz my gnex does the same thing but it gets really hot after about 15 to 20 mins of using data.
thanks a lot for all your hard work and support for dummies like me that dont know anything lol...
Lmao to everyone having problems with the ota.
Should just been stock then figured out everything after the fact. Have fun. I'm done.
What is the point of this thread other then you being rude?
I don't post much but when I do, its generally asking a question or looking for help. I am very grateful for everyone on the forums, most everyone here is willing to help out. I know that some people get frustrated that the same questions get asked over and over again, and that some people should try the search bar before asking for help. That frustration, I understand.
But in all honesty, I feel your post was uncalled for. Don't you remember being a noob and just starting out?
Sorry, I had to say something.
Great job A$$!
Here's the propper thread from someone who is a definite asset to this website :

See the difference?
Currently not being productive on my S3.
Love you mike.s!
No homo
I don't even understand what he's trying to say. He needs to go to an institute for kids that don't type so good.
Should have been stock for the ota update cuz no one had problems of they were stock and waited for the ota instead of flashing. Douche
I too waited for the update before doing anything to my phone except HTCdev unlock and have had no problems. Why is it everyone who is having problems installing the OTA feels the need to start their own thread about it instead of heaven forbid actually reading someone else's thread or using search?
Yet another pointless thread...:silly:

Hello!
I'm currently studying in the last high school year and I'm thinking in going for Informatics and Computing Engineering at the College so most likely I'll be connected to this kind of development work...
Despite knowing some basic things of HTML and CSS and programming little programs in C or C++ I am still noob and don't really have knowledge to call myself a programmer but I'm interested and "self prompted" to learn more and more about this world and I believe some Android would be good for me.
Well, I am thinking in trying to learn alone in my free time with the objective to be able to build a custom rom for myself or something like that. I also want to make some apps... well, some Android things not only for myself but also to share here and help the others like I've been helped since ever. But... well I am realistic and I believe it isn't that easy and I need to take the right way, that's why I'm asking here for some advice and information... how did you developers learn what you learned? was it from the internet and practice at home or did you take any course? how much time did you need to learn the basics and start your experiments?
Thanks in advance!
Well its not for everyone.. I mean its not that easy. Ive been trying to pull of something myself and didnt succeed yet. But im gonna try till it succeeds. Just dont give up. There are plenty of guides around. Im sure youll figure it out!

Ok so i used to be a very experienced actionscript user. But i recently wanted to get back into programming so im learning java now or rather trying to.
So im trying to understand the xml side of this so far and have some questions im hoping u guys can answer.
activities
So as i understand it an activity is a screen in an app. So for example the standard launcher on my phone has pages of apps on my main screens. Each one of those would be an activity? And then another activity for when i press the button to display all installed apps?
Have i understood that properly?
intent filters
This is where im getting confused. Ive googled it and read as much as i can find. As i read it, feel like someones explaining rocket science to a 5 year old.
The words component and instances is being thrown around enough that i got no clue whats even being said. What i have understood is it gives data to the activity.
So a best guess from my partwould be its telling it how the screens going to work or maybe like if theres going to be a button on it maybe. Or perhaps it means something different like just the properties sort of stuff like screen size or stuff of that nature.
As u guys can probably tell im confused beyond comprehension. I got no idea how good my grasp is of any of this. But if theres someone out there kind enough to dumb it down a bit so normal people can understand it. Id be very gratefull
Can nobody help me?
Hmm this is pretty basic i would of thought. Surprised its so hard to find anyone who can help answer my question
