Not registered on network:EFS messed up:No EFS - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So it all started as
It was a good day
I had rr5.9.9 running on my s3, was playing clash of clans ..found some good loot. I was just about to attack him and by phone baterry was low (I dont have the original battery..I have chinese/cheap battery in which when the battery is low the screen has lines and flashes and also the screen freezes but if plugged on time it unstucks and goes well but if not the screen stops flashing but is froze so i have to take out the battery and turn on again). So my screen started flashing and also froze I quicly rushed to get plug in but it couldnt get out of frozeness. So I took out the battery and power it on. Guess what? It stucked on bootloop. So I was like maybe its something wron with the rom . So I clean flashed it again but it was still on bootloop. I tried every sinhle rom but all had the same result "bootloop" and then I was like theres only one way out STOCK ROM so I flashed the stock rom still bootloop so I went to recovery and saw this e:/ unable to mount efs .. so I google d it and found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/how-to-fix-efailed-to-mount-efs-invalid-t2858056 .
So I followed it and my phone booted yaya but in factory mode. (I forgot to turn off the factory mode) And then installed blekota rom .... it had the following probs :
No network
No lockscreen..screen would just open
Pressing the power button for just 2sec would turn off the phone instead of showing the power menu.
I beared with it and then the next day I figured out that I havent turned off the factory mode
So I fllashed stock rom ...it booted in factory mode (it had the box showin various things)(I didnt use adb to boot in factory mode). So the next thing I did was turn off factory mode and then the lockscreen and power issue were fixed and my network got detected but when I call or check my balance it shows not registed on network. So after many hours of research on google and xda I came to conclusion that my efs is messed uo and I dont have a backup and no warranty....and am pretty much screwed up. SO GUYS I WANTED TO ASK IF THERES ANY WAY OUT AND IS EFS SPECIFIC TO ONE PHONE AND CAN I USE ANY OF OTHER S3 EFS ??
Sorry for the long post xD

Guys .....please i cant use my network!!

Flash a 4.2 stock rom to get you imei back, update the stock rom to the latest version and re root/flash as required.
If that doesnt work there is a way to flash one part from emg4 rom then the mk6 modem.. The thread is around somewhere in "troubleshooting" or "general", cant remember exactly.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

This. Just flash as is.
If you need a 4.3 rom for btu devices i can give you a link but i dont have a 4.2 rom. I bit the bullet and allowed my efs to be upgraded as there was no real downside.

For all. I tested it in all versions ICS, JB,KK,LP

But it isn't working lollipop cm12.1

i had the same problem as you described, cell phone wouldnt register on network when i flashed stock 4.1.2 rom, so i found a solution online and i did exactly what thoothukudi told you, flashed 2 zip files and voila, it worked like a charm. since then ive tried like 100 different roms and never had the same problem.
p.s. you should backup your efs files

Help needed please. I lost my efs folder and can't get data connect!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 int. T-mobile Austria as Provider.
Is there any chance to get my efs back somehow?
Thanks in advance for responding

solution
Use the patches provided in the link. It solved my lollipop problem on no network service. For lollipop, I just took the risk and flashed the modem only.

I was only talking about regaining network connectivity. For IMEI, the only option I think is to flash your phone with stock ROM using Odin. You can get stock ROM from this url
sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9300/
Free Registration is required to download.
Once you flash it, you have to install CWM or TWRT recovery using Odin to flash the modem patch that is the first link on the page, which you can find here.

You are welcome. I have faced similar problem in Sammobile. The only solution is to use Internet Download manager (IDM), copy the download link from the browser then when IDM asks for a login detail, fill it out and download. Obviously, the download get interrupted but after giving it a couple of minutes, sammobile reconnects and you can resume your download on IDM.

This flashing stock, did you do it through CWM or ODIN? If you have not tried ODIN yet I would go that route, could just be you need a stock modem.

i am such a tard.. i havent backed up the efs... i did so now after the mess ... i believe there must be someone with tips and a small hope, btw restoring efs make no difference at all, as dont have correct files.
The EFS is fine if you have IMEI, if you have only flashed each ROM once through ODIN you have hope. Try an ODIN flash again. Can you get to recovery to do full wipe first?
Try EFS Pro Here and download to your PC then run it. You will probably need to use your own wireless to get Busybox (free on Play Store) and run it on your phone - if the phone will not go to wireless, DL the files to your PC then copy BB over to the phone in Windows Explorer and run it on the phone.
Then run EFS Pro on your PC (with phone connected by USB, but it will prompt you) and there are a couple of options there to try to see if you can recover things. (NV Recovery and Repair NV Data) - I think the NV Recovery uses info on the phone (.bak file) while repair tries to rebuild the info.
Good luck. Maybe read through the thread first or contact the thread OP if you have questions about EFS Pro processes...

I don't think this will help with the Serial issue, but maybe for the service all you need is the APN/Service info from Vodaphone? Go to [Settings] [More Settings] [Mobile Networks] and check both Access Point Names and Network Operators.
I flashed a ROM and found I had problems so I went to a Telstra page, entered my phone number and it sent me a text with a security code - when I entered that it sent me an install that connected all my services again. Maybe Voda has similar? Or even just a page with APN info?

Beyond what I know so far, sorry. If it was me I'd be making sure I have back-ups of everything I can think of (Data, System, Nandroid, EFS) then I would start from clean phone - wipe everything in recovery, factory reset etc. then load as close as possible to the original Stock for the phone. If that doesn't do it, with official stock and counters etc. I'd go to vendor and ask what gives. I'd start with the service provider and if they can't help, phone vendor, then failing that, Samsung.
Maybe some of the more experienced here can assist otherwise...

With the state of your phone now, if you were to reflash a rom between the two, you would have to flash the odex version because it will have everything stock, while the other deodexed one might have one or two things taken out, I believe.

Could be a bug somewhere, development in this device is still very small and new.
@OP, reflash stock as suggested, might be lucky and get your details back.
i just flashed a stock rom, no luck.
still no imei. is there anything else I could do?
Not sure if this is possible but use someones efs img and inject your own imei inside it. i wonder if this would work

I tried doing that on my old device with no luck, but it may work for him.
I had the exact same issue, unfortunately I had no success, I ended up sending my phone back to Telstra and getting a replacement
I have the i9305T from Telstra and I made the mistake of trying to install CF-Root 6.4 for the standard i9300. Once I did that I soft bricked the phone. I have been able to download the Telstra ROM from SamFirmware and install it and be able to get the ROM up and running again. I have lost the ability to connect to the mobile network. I can still use the phone to full capacity and even connect to wifi. I haven't be able to work out a way to repair the mobile network connection.
Can you suggest any ideas?

cool, i'm just waiting to get hold of original Everything Everywhere UK ROM before I do that.
OK, i've triangleaway'd my flash counter.
so now my phone in download mode reads:
Odin mode
Product Name: GT-I9305
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Now, it says samsung official as i used a foreign (to me) firmware from sammobile, i still want to change this to the everything everywhere ROM.
Why does system status still say custom? is it because i still have root? how do i remove it after i install the EE ROM?
The EE rom shouldn't add to the flash counter so i'll be OK to remove root then install it.

[Q] GT-I9300 not registered on network

Hey, guys!
This is my first post in this forum.
My situation is the following: a friend of mine came to me because her SIII GT-I9300 was stuck in the SAMSUNG screen. After a little research on the internet, I did a wipe data, which did not work. Then I researched a bit more and flashed Android 4.3 using Odin. Android was running OK, but I got "not registered on network".
My question is: in order to fix this problem, should I worry about the IMEI? (when I did the wipe data i didn't do any backup...:silly.
Any help is welcome. Please have in my mind that I'm a noob...

Yes root it then install cwm recovery then download zip file and put it onto your internal sdcard
Then reboot in CWM and use "install from zip".
Well, guys...
I did what you said... didn't succeed. I installed those patches, but it still says "not registered on network".
I wonder if it is an IMEI / EFS folder issue... As I mentioned on the initial post, I don't have a backup EFS folder.
Should I try to flash the stock ROM (I mean, the factory native ROM) so as to try to recover the IMEI?
If so, I don't know what was the original firmware because I got this mobile from a friend.
Any ideas on how to figure it out?
Thanks in advance.

I'm really thankful for the tips... but is there any tutorial on how to flash MG4 modem?
I've had a quick look on the net, but I couldn't find any 'step-by-step'...
I mean, do I have to save those 2 files (modem MG4 + kernel) in the SD card and flash using CWM?
Where can I download it?
Thank you all.

Here's the patched modem and install via CWM.

U can try these patched modems
https://drive.google.com/folderview...usp=sha+ring&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8
these are released after 4.3 upgrade with the issue not registered in network
Flash
I would go back to an older version of standard rom. See if that restores imei efs back to version 1. Sammy mobile unbranded uk is version 2 so use an older version than that. I have gone back to this from version 4.3 stock. If phone boot loops after flashing do full factory reset. Then check imei. If still not ok. Install kies and it will upgrade to 4.3 and imei will be back.

Koj,
Could you please post the link for the older version of standard rom? After flashing it, how can I check the IMEI EFS version? I just want to be sure I'm strictly following your tips.
Just to remind you, I got this S3 from a friend who had bought it in USA, and now I'm trying to use it in Brazil.
Thanks in advance. Greetings from Brazil!!
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9300&pcode=ZTO These are a list of Brazilian roms choose the september 4.12 version. You will need to register before you can download. To check imei go to about device then status or from phone keypad enter *#06#

not registered on network

hey there everybody
i have a serious issue and i think i could use your help
well previously i was on stock rom 4.2.2 on my I9300, then i flashing 4.3 manually using odin and downloaded the rom from sammobile anyhow since i flashed that firmware i can no longer access anything on my sim card, meaning i cant call or receive any call from anyone, it keeps saying no registered on network, then i thought it could be the rom or something, i tried pa rom and cm official latest builds but in vain, the same issue, i tried changing the sim card but the same, issue not resolved....how can i solve this prob, i wish it is just a software issue not a hardware
i also tried following this link, i thought it would help somehow, but in vain as well, now i have no idea what to do to solve this issue, tried reflashing another stock rom which is probably more appropriate than the old one, but also it didnt work, so now i have no idea what to do, i just need urgent help please, thanks a lot in advance

Your efs as changed from efs v1 to efs v2 this happens from any upgrade to 4.3 it as nothing to do with flashing pit files etc try flashing a patched modem and kernel from here >> https://drive.google.com/folderview...=sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#lis << also this explaines things a little >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-imei-efs-stuff-i9300-including-t2393289 <<

NOT WORKING, I TRIED
okay buddy i got it to work, flashed patched kernel and patched modem using twrp in one go and it did work, couldn't wait for your reply though, so now it is working peacefully and i can access my sim, calling sending sms etc, but i wanna know how to backup efs, or actually is it necessary to back it up, can't i have the patched modem and kernel files for solving this issue whenever it arises?

Hi sorry I have been away from computer i'm glad to see you got it working You will always need to use a patched modem and kernel the only way to return to normal would have been to backup your efs before it got changed. As for backing up your efs you can back it up with PhilZ recovery I'm not sure about twrp iv'e not used it for a while. There are are a few apps/programs that can back it up also just do a search on xda. But remember you will always need to use the patched modem/kernel if you change roms.

Because when you flashed from 4.2 to 4.3 your efs got changed from efs v1 to efs v2 and in the process it got slightly corrupt so it was unable to read your modem ( This happens some times and you where unlucky) .This is a lesson for all people to make sure they backup the efs before flashing roms ( Especially the very first rom that they flash) it is the very first thing you should ever do.
IMEI changed after flashing to 4.3 jellybean GT-I9300

The one that says kernel is kernel patch and the one that says modem is the modem patch lol Try the mk6 modem and the mk6 kernel patch flash them in custom recovery with 4.3 rom. If you get bootloop reboot into recovery and factory reset. Please note this is not guaranteed to fix all imei issues but does help in some cases.

Is there a possibility that there's a way that I could just wipe my entire phone clean of all partition and data and start a fresh firmware update?, if so how can I do that, as I have a corrupted file then I think if it can be done it might just work a fresh firmware flash on a clean system??

Read here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-imei-efs-stuff-i9300-including-t2393289 << Also you can always pay for a service repair if the patched modems do not work.
important NB: TWRP recovery do support EFS backup with encryption, so i guess it is great to have a sensitive data such as EFS to be backed up with encrypted password, so i do recommend using it as a backup
Hello All, I'm pretty new to all this and am feeling out of my depth, however getting desperate and don't know where to turn next.
I am in Australia and purchased a brand new GT-I9300 from eBay around 3 weeks ago which was shipped from Shanghai, China.
It turned up running 4.1.2 and worked just fine. I tried using the software update feature on the phone to see if 4.3 was available, however, I got the error message to say that because the phone had been modified, software upgrades were unavailable. I mentioned this on a local forum here, and someone kind offered to help me upgrade to 4.3 using Odin.
Turns out the phone was shipped to me rooted and had SuperSU installed. Had to install and run Triangle Away to reset binary counter first. Then installed Odin and followed the links to the firmware and this is where it started going wrong. Fist attempt resulted in a boot loop and could not enter recovery mode to factory reset, however could access download mode, so flashed with 4.3 recovery firmware which got the phone to boot up. Then flashed 4.3 stock firmware again, which was successful this time. However, when trying to make calls or send text messages, the error message on the screen is "Not registered on network". Have tried going back to 4.1.2 and upgrading using Kies, but same result. Then tried the patch from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2745274 and still no luck.
I then sent the phone half way across Australia to Official Samsung Specialist Repair Centre, however, they called me yesterday, to say that because it was an international model, they can't/won't help as they don't have access to international firmware.
If anyone here can help me to get this phone working again, I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Thank You. The phone was posted back to me yesterday, but I won't receive it back until the end of the week. Once I get it back, I'll try this out.
I'm very sorry to have to ask this, but could you give me a bit of a step by step by what you mean?
Thank You again.

Many thanks tallman43, I managed to get someone to give me a hand with giving your idea a try. Just wanted to let you know that it worked, and my GT-I9300 is now back up and connecting to the network and running with 4.3. Thanks again, and much appreciated.

Stock firmware flashed successfully with Odin doesn't boot / Also IMEI missing

Basically, I have tried to do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847 but after I have flashed firmware, phone won't boot past "Samsung Galaxy S III" text. (Odin gave no error messages)
Also, I can install Omega ROM but same there, phone won't boot. Only CM11 and CM12 seems to work. That wouldn't be problem but I have lost IMEI and some tutorials I have found for restoring IMEI seems to require stock firmware. All other methods I have tried already, none of them has worked. (Including MTK Tools, EFS Professional. Some guides had Engineering Mode but I can't access that)
I have nandroid backup from 2013 that definitely has IMEI but CWM restore doesn't restore IMEI.
So, I have quite many problems currently. I hope someone knows why even soft brick fix is broken
Don't know if this has something to do with my problems but settings says that name of my ROM is "cm_i9300-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Q93cb64d509 test-keys". I really don't like words "userdebug" and "test-keys" :/
E:Currently I have 0049 IMEI that obviously doesn't work

Try again it must work . Try it in another rom.
Bro go to GALAXY S I9003 XDA site. You'll learn a lot from there regarding your problem. "Some" of them repair/got back the IMEI through flashing via ODIN.. EFS.tar
If you dont have an efs backup you can try flashing a rom earlier than 4.3 (if your phone has never had 4.3 on it). I think its EMG4?.
There is a thread somewhere that explains exactly what to do.
Dont panic it CAN be revived!!.
