How do I identify the file system (FAT32, exFat, etc.) on an already formatted MicroSD card in an Android device? It doesn't tell you the file system in Storage->Settings. I assume it must show it somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. I'm running Android 5.0 on a Galaxy S5.

For the last few days I've been looking on the net to try to find out how I can change my SD card to ext2,3 or 4 and still have it readable in my Galaxy SII. The reason for this is that I've gotten pretty sick of the terrible 4GB file limit on Fat32.
I found a program for my PC which formats SD cards to these file systems. However the SD card is never readable unless its in Fat32. I'm using a custom Gingerbread ROM with kernel 2.6.35.14 at the moment.
Can someone point me to a ROM that will allow me to use one of these file systems on my SD Card?
Hi Everyone,
I need to synchronize a folder with more than 70,000 files on a external MicroSD of a tablet Mediacom Smart Pad 860 S2 M-MP860S2 with Android 4.0 ICS, root permissions and original ROM.
The files are images, the source is a folder on a web server that hosts an ecommerce, the destination folder is on the external MicroSD.
Because the structure of the site is not possible to divide the content into subfolders with fewer files.
The external microSD is formatted NTFS to overcome the problem of the limit number of files in one single folder on the FAT32 file system, the internal memory is formatted FAT32 instead.
To format and mount the MicroSD external I use "Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS +"
To synchronize I use a shell script with the app "Rsync Backup for Android", the system works well on other folders with fewer files.
The problem is the folder with more than 70,000 files, from rsync I get the error "No space left on device (28)" of course there is the space, currently occupied 1.5 GB of 4 GB total.
I apologize for bad English.
Thanks in advance to all those who will kindly help me.
Cant download anything bigger than 4gb to external sd card. I have a T769 Blaze and have a 32gb external sd card installed, a sandisk hicap. I installed it factory and no luck. Read some forums and formated it to exfat, then ntsf, both read fine and can store up to 4gb but no more, tried all the various apps to get it to store when downloading but always get size limit error. How can I get my OS to allow bigger than 4gb to download to my 32gb sd card. Note: I have no issues when trying to move files from PC to phone, just downloading them from the Internet either by download site or torrent. Got some movies and software I need to get. OS is ics 4.0.4 rooted stock. I am a good pc geek but limited on android/linux skills.
Strange.

If you used an NTFS formatted SD card, you should be able to put a > 4GB file on there without trouble. You may have formatted the card as vFAT instead on NTFS. The problem would then be that your phone wouldn't be able to read and write to the NTFS file system (your PC would have no problem). The only file system that Android can read/write to that handles files larger than 4GB is Ext2/3/4. Of course, that means that your computer will have to have special software to read/write an Ext2/3/4 file system (unless you are running Linux on your PC, or you have a Mac). You can move the files from PC to Phone because you are probably writing to the phone's internal storage which is Ext4, and the MTP protocol is handling the file system issue that you would normally have if you tried to write to the file system directly.
Good luck, let me know if you need anything else.

So if I forrmat my sd cart to exr4, I'll be able to downlod torrents up to 4gb? Correct?
I've followed directions exactly in the thread about formatting the SD card in my Samsung Tab A as internal storage.
Despite enabling debugging and the fact that I can see the SD card from my Samsung Tab A file manger [actually had been using until I transfered all the files prior to attempting this process] and my Windows 10 file manager can see the SD card when I attach via USB...
...however when I run aftiss it sees the device SM-T580 but I keep getting an ERROR SDCard not found! message.
I even formatted the drive from the tablet, unmounted/remounted, reformatted...same result every time [SD card not found!
I did notice even after formatting, the card has two folders [ANDROID & LOST.DIR]. I even deleted those folders via Windows and reran aftiss ... same result, SD card not found!
Device: SM-T580
Android version: 8.1.0
Kernel version: 3.18.14
I am obviously in over my head. Heeelllppp!!!

Once an external SD-card plugged into Android device gets formatted to be used as Adoptable Storage, Android encrypts the external SD-card, thus, it gets tied to this specific Android device. The key used to encrypt the data on the external SD-card is stored on the Android device’s internal memory. So, it is not possible to mount the Adopted Storage to another device because of its encrypted nature.
Hello,
I have a big problem, because I want to store files larger than 4gb on the android SD Card.
So it is not possible to use FAT32, but if I format the SD Card as EXT2 or EXT3, on the PC with Minitool partition wizard,
the phone always says that the card is damaged and wants to format the card back to FAT32. I really need help to come loose from that damn awful FAT32. I really dont understand how they can make a operating system in the Year 2015 (The release date of Android 6.0) that can olny support a awful f*cking old filesystem like FAT32, that can only store files smaller than 4gb, in a time where micro SD Cards with 500gb had already existed, and files larger tahn 4gb were already virtuelly everywhere. Please help me, I tried all tutorials already, but nothing worked. Phone is rooted.
My 2nd question is: Why can I store files larger than 4gb on the internal memory, it seems Android 6.0 can support modern filesystems, but only for the internal memory?
If your phone's Android supports Adoptable Storage ( not every phone running Android 6.0 supports the feature ) make the SD-card ( fully or partially ) used by Android as internal memory.
