Samsung Tab A [2016] SD Internal Formatting - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've followed directions exactly in the thread about formatting the SD card in my Samsung Tab A as internal storage.
Despite enabling debugging and the fact that I can see the SD card from my Samsung Tab A file manger [actually had been using until I transfered all the files prior to attempting this process] and my Windows 10 file manager can see the SD card when I attach via USB...
...however when I run aftiss it sees the device SM-T580 but I keep getting an ERROR SDCard not found! message.
I even formatted the drive from the tablet, unmounted/remounted, reformatted...same result every time [SD card not found!
I did notice even after formatting, the card has two folders [ANDROID & LOST.DIR]. I even deleted those folders via Windows and reran aftiss ... same result, SD card not found!
Device: SM-T580
Android version: 8.1.0
Kernel version: 3.18.14
I am obviously in over my head. Heeelllppp!!!

Once an external SD-card plugged into Android device gets formatted to be used as Adoptable Storage, Android encrypts the external SD-card, thus, it gets tied to this specific Android device. The key used to encrypt the data on the external SD-card is stored on the Android device’s internal memory. So, it is not possible to mount the Adopted Storage to another device because of its encrypted nature.

[Q] Hypderdrive ROM on MI1 has "Renamed" SD Card

I've installed Hyperdrive via SafeStrap today. It seems that when you create that Rom Partition, the OS seems to have been configured so that "SD Card" is actually internal device storage and in order to actually get to the External SD Card I you have to go to Root -> Storage -> ExtSDCard directory.
Also, when I plug it in to the computer, all I can see is the External SD card and this new "fake" SD Card partition in the computer. I can't even get to the Root of the phone.
The problem is things like Pictures and some applications only allow you to choose "Device" or "SD Card" for storage and no matter what you choose it's going to the same place and this virtual SD Card Partition is almost out of space!
Help!
Any help?

That's the way the Stock ROM works - /mnt/sdcard is the internal storage, /mnt/extSdCard is the external storage.
You can't mount the root because it's a Linux EXT4 filesystem. Windows doesn't understand it. Again, that's normal behavior.
My pictures, music, Ti Backup files, etc. are stored on my external SD card, so it's quite possible to do that.

Adoptable Storage went wrong, issues trying to revert

Greetings and Salutations,
I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 running the stock ROM and bootloader, Android 6.0.1, Kernel 3.10.49-9058927, with 16GB internal storage, and a 128GB U3 microSD card (not 100% sure of SD card speed, its above class 10), the phone is the 2016 version (subtle changes from the 2015 apparently) and has not yet been rooted.
I tried to enable adoptable storage to get a couple of apps to run better, but I want to revert back and seek a different solution, namely rooting and using Link2SD.
I tried the standard method of adoptable storage, and the option was not present in the storage screen on my phone. I tried using adb, and got timeout messages on the sm partition disk:179,64 private command. (Enabled USB debugging, accepted connections, installed samsung drivers, adb server daemon and shell all started successfully). Eventually it showed the sd card as corrupt. I popped it out of the phone, and deleted the partition on my computer, leaving raw, unformatted space on the card. I reinstalled the sd card in the phone, and the format as internal option was now present. I hit that, let it run and tried to migrate data afterward. Migrating always failed between 30 and 45%, and it showed me at 15.92GB or more out of 16GB used. I decided to revert back. I reformatted the sd card as portable in the phone, and it corrupted again. I did the same process, but elected to format as fat32 on my computer. Reinserting the sd card, it asked to format, so I did, as portable. The sd card appears to be back to normal, but I'm still at almost 16GB used on the phone. I tried to delete some music files that I have on the SD card as well, and they won't delete from the internal memory. It always says "could not delete" or "Delete operation failed". I have used the built in file manager, ES file explorer, and I believe I tried on my computer last night (it was getting late, but I remember at least trying). All fail to delete the files. I'm down to very few apps, none can be moved to the SD card, and I can't move much data otherwise. I harbor a suspicion that some hidden files are present on the internal memory, but I could be paranoid. I'm hoping to avoid a factory reset, but I fear that's the only option. I have a backup of the sd card, but not the phone's internals beyond what google saves in the cloud. I'm open to suggestions, and thanks in advance.

Unable to transfer files properly between redmi note 4 and PC.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I have a PC and redmi note 4 with 64 GB internal storage. I want to transfer files between redmi note 4 and PC but can't. I am getting a number of errors while transferring in various situations.
I have a folder in external SD card which contains 500 mp3 files of size 2.5 GB. I have tried to move these files to a folder in PC and unfortunately 150 files are transferred properly with correct size and remaining 350 files are copied with zero size for all files. Finally I have lost 350 files in SD card so I have tried to recover using data recovery software in redmi note 4 itself but failed. In order to transfer these files I have compressed them after that copied the resulted zip file to PC and succeeded.
I have three text files in a folder of PC. First I have selected these three text files and selected copy option after that I have connected the phone to PC and selected transfer files option after that in internal storage I have made right click and I can't find paste option and even I have pressed Ctrl+v and no use. I have tried to copy these text files to lenovo a3000 internal storage which is connected as USB storage and successfully completed.
Previously I have tried to copy 2000 mp3 files of size 9 GB and unfortunately 1500 files are copied and remaining left un copied.
Suppose if I want to copy a folder containing 1000 files from PC to redmi note 4 and the phone already contains 500 files. I want to copy remaining 500 files and skip already existing files. I have tried copy and paste and it asked confirmation to replace existing files or not and I have selected no and after that the paste process is taking lot of time. If I try to copy these 1000 files to an empty folder of phone storage the paste process is taking less time than above.
I have used a number of android phones and tabs and all of them have an option to mount storage as USB storage in PC but redmi note 4 doesn't. Can anyone of you suggest how to mount internal storage or external SD card as USB storage. Is there any android app which allows mounting as USB storage.
My PC runs Windows 8.1 pro and my phone runs MIUI 9.
Is there any PC companion suite specifically for redmi note 4 which allows transferring files between redmi note 4 and PC with minimum errors.
Regards,
Rupesh.
Is it possible to transfer huge amount of files between PC and redmi note 4 using the software specified above.
At present I have rooted my phone and installed custom recovery and so is there any firmware or app in order to mount internal and external storages as USB removable storage drives.

USB storage? Like the normal "transfer files" option, or MTP storage (USB debugging option)? You can use TWRP and I think that mounts both drives as USB storage.
Did you convert your SD card to internal storage? Or is it portable storage? When you take the SD card out and insert it into your computer, do you have access to your files, or no? If not, it's configured as internal storage.

USB storage I mean I want to use it as normal USB removable storage like pen drive. Up to now I have connected my phone to computer by turning on USB debugging option.
In mtp mode file transfer is taking lot of time that too error prone. Suppose I want to copy a directory containing 100 sub directories and 2000 mp3 files from PC to my internal storage and when I try to paste and it will ask do you want to skip already existing file's and when I select yes it is taking up to 1.5 hours just to skip already existing file's.
In mtp mode when I connect my phone to PC in Windows explorer I am able to see an entry called android phone and when I enter into it I am able to see two entries called "internal storage" and external SD card. I have another android device ie., tablet called lenovo a3000 h and when I connect it to my PC I am able to see two entries with new drives for internal storage and external storages like g: drive for internal storage and h: drive for external storage. When I try to copy files from PC to my tab the file transfer is very fast without any errors and also skipping existing file's is also fast. The tab is running ice cream Sandwich and my phone is running nought.
My external SD card is portable I mean I am able to access the files present in it when I connect it to PC using card reader. The problem is my phone ie., redmi note 4 is a sealed piece I mean if I want to take SD card out I have to use a needle.
I think that you have understood my problem and so can you try to suggest how to connect my internal and external storages as g: and h: drives.

If you want to use it as normal removable storage, that's called portable mode. When you first inserted your SD card into your device, it might have given you two options: format as portable storage or internal storage. Those are the options I was presented with on LOS 15.1. I don't know how it works on MIUI.
If portable storage, then your SD card should show up as another entry when you connect your phone to your computer. If internal storage, only one entry shows (since your SD card is combined with your internal storage). Since I formatted my SD card as internal storage, it shows up as one entry when I connect and select the "Transfer files" option.
In TWRP, the SD card and internal storage show up as two distinct entries (I guess that's just how TWRP works).
It sounds like there's something wrong with your SD card, IMO. Remove it to the phone and insert it into the computer by itself. Format it, then put it back into your phone and see if that fixes anything.

How can i recover data from adoptable sd card?

I was using my 8gb sd card as adoptable sd card(formated as internal) but I replaced with 32gb card and formated new one as internal. Now when I tried to insert sd card in pc it doesn't shows any drive and 2 drive one approx 150mb other approx 7.5 gb is shown in disk management. Both are shown as 100% free. But I didn't formated the 8gb card on device nor on pc. Is there any way to recover the data from that card? I don't have the device right now. I sold it to someone else

The feature called Adoptable Storage allows the Android user to format an external storage media as permanent internal storage to be used with this specific Android device: Hereby Android formats and changes it’s FAT32 or exFAT format to ext4 or f2fs, it gets tied to this specific Android device. The key used to encrypt the data on the SD card is stored on the Android device’s internal memory.
So, it is not possible to mount the adopted storage to another device because of its encrypted nature.

Consider this scenario:
SDcard1 was used in mobile as adoptable
Then it was removed from the device and card was not formated and no device reset.
Then card with high storage capacity was inserted and this new card got formatted as adaptable and but still no device reset.
Now I want to use the old card in this device. Will the device recognize it as it was used there before?
Adoptable storage is a nightmare as cards fail regularly, as you have found out. With an unencrypted SD card, you could run chkdsk in Windows to repair the card. The only thing I am unsure of is if there is an equivalent in Linux. If there is, the card which has an ext4 file system could possibly be repaired.
Try iBoysoft Data Recovery. If a file is a recognizable format, iBoysoft will find it and recover it. (And take days for a decent-sized card.) Instructions are at the software Step By Step. (If each file is encrypted, it may not find anything, but if the file structure is encrypted, iBoysoft never looks at the file structure except to see how large the clusters are - and it can work without that information.

how can I unhide my internal storage after corrupted SD card formatted as internal

I formatted an SD card as internal, then got suddenly corrupted..
the phone is not accepting any other card even with the same brand and capacity..
I bought new phone, and I need to transfer whatsapp chat that already on the old phone, but the internal storage isn't available.. google backup also says no internal storage found..
need help..
Personally don't think you can fix corrupted or not working SD-card formatted as internal storage ( Adoptable Storage ).
As soon as you format an SD-card to be used as internal memory ( Adoptable Storage ) it gets encrypted, the corresponding key gets stored in device's memory, means this SD-card furthermore only can be used on this device, it's not possible anymore to mount this SD-card to another Android device. Quite reverse your Android device refuses to accept any other SD-card.
IMHO Adoptable Storage is absolutely nightmare as card fail frequently, using this expanded storage often will corrupt your files.
