I have the native Android / LG email app configured with an Exchange / Office356 server. New notifications pop up when they're supposed to, but if I open the email on desktop, the phone app doesn't refresh and clear notification. This works fine in Gmail, Hangouts, and other apps that can be used on desktop, but the only way to clear Email app notification is to actually open the app. It's set up for push notifications, but doesn't refresh on its own. Does anyone have a workaround for this? I'd prefer not to have to unlock the phone and open the email app all the time, to clear notifications for emails that have already been read on desktop.
Thanks in advance!

I'm using the Gmail app on my phone. However, when i look at an email on my phone and delete it, once i go on my computer and look at my email either through my windows live app or the gmail website, it will still show that it was unread. same thing if i were to look on the computer and then check on my phone. I have already tried going into the app and clearing the data/cache and force closing it. i need to set up the gmail to pop forwarding because i also use windows live on my desktop so i dont always have to goto the gmail website. how do i sync both my phone and gmail so when i delete a mail from my phone, it will delete it from the server? i tried going to the gmail app > more > settings, but dont see any option for that...?
how long have u waited until u checked your gmail inbox?
maybe u have to wait a little bit longer, f.e. 5 minutes
Go to settings, applications, manage applications, gmail, clear data. This does a reset of gmail and reloads all of your emails. It also clears up any sync issues. When you launch gmail again you will see all your messages being pulled down from the server.
Has happened to me a few times and this always does the trick.
as stated in my original post, i have already tried clearing my cache and it didn't help much. just to clear things up, when i look at a mail in my gmail app from my phone and delete the message. i will see it delete in mail.google.com. however, if i were to go into my windows live mail app on my desktop, it will still show that it has been unread and it is still there. same thing goes with if i were to check a new mail in my windows live mail desktop app, and then check my gmail app on my phone later on, it will show a new mail that i haven't read yet, when i have already read it in my desktop app. so basically i'm having troubles with my windows live mail app syncing with my gmail app on my phone. however, the mail.google.com website seems to be syncing fine with my phone.

Not cache. Data.
i tried deleting only data also. still the same issue. if i were to delete a mail on my phone, and then later on check my windows live mail app on my desktop, it will still appear unread...?
Not sure if it affects your issue, but are you configured as IMAP or POP3 in the settings of gmail online?

i have both POP3 and IMAP enabled in my gmail settings. POP3 is enabled because i use "windows live mail" on my desktop, so i don't always have to log into the gmail website. and regarding IMAP, it has always been enabled in my settings...
So your windows live account isn't syncing with your Gmail account, your Gmail messages are just forwarding to windows live and leaving copies of the messages on the Gmail server. I don't think it's possible to truly sync Gmail and windows live/Hotmail. You could do it the other way around and set your Gmail account to fetch mail from windows live and set it to not leave a copies on the windows server. Other option is to use k9 and set up 2 accounts, I've found it fiddly to get the syncing right on it though!

Hi Folks,
I have been using an iPhone 3G till now and just made the switch to Android. Just received my Atrix today and spent time getting familiar with Android/Motoblur and setting things up.
Now, I am really confused between these three apps
1. Email
2. Messaging
3. Gmail
From the time I've spend playing around, I know that Email and Messaging look pretty much the same, except that messaging also has text messages. So why do we have these two separate apps? Then there is Gmail. If I have a gmail account, should I add it to the Motoblur accounts or set it up with the Gmail app? Why are there so many overlapping apps?
Basically all I want is a single app where I can check all my emails from different accounts just like iPhone's native email app.
Please be easy on me as I am an android newbie Thanks in advance!
- Gmail is Google's gmail app that supports multiple gmail accounts
- Email is Moto's email app that supports different types of email accounts (integrated with MotoBlur)
- Messaging is Moto's text and MMS app

"Messaging" actually integrates texts, GMail, and the MotoBlur Email client. There is also a "Text Messaging" app that just handles texts. If you use the "Messaging" widget, you can even get FB messages on it.
Oops, I stand corrected. Was thinking about the captivate's Messaging.

To answer your other question, if you want to use the Moto "Messaging" with Universal Inbox then all you have to do is go to Accounts and select Google at the bottom and deselect "Sync Email" and then just setup your Gmail through Moto's Email client and you can get all your emails (just once) in the universal inbox. If you use both then you will receive redundant notifications for your Gmail.
Is it just my View or is the stock mail app messed up. I have a shortcut to the mail app on the home screen. When I get a new email the notifier tells me and the mail icon on the home screen has a number on showing the number of new emails. I tap the mail icon and open the mail app and instead of showing the messages, it says no mail. I have to open the mail app and then tell it to refresh on order to see the email that the app notifier has told me that I have. Is this how the stock mail app is normally?
Are you using gmail or some other mail provider?

It is a pop 3 account with the mail app. My gmail works great.
Mail app is fine on my end. Exchange, yahoo, hotmail accounts. Mail icon pops up on the notification bar, open the mail app the emails are sitting in the respective inboxes. Do you have auto download messages checked in the settings?
Yes it is set to auto download and I have the peak and off peak download time set tot he same. I also tried checking the Refresh on open but that didn't help either. I removed my pop account and set it up again and that didn't help either. I don't know what is going on with it.

Do the settings need to be set up a specific way to get my gmail mail to notify me upon arrival of new msg? Once I set up acct it will load my inbox based upon the settings I chose, but after that, I don't receive any mail thru that app. Even if I refresh, I don't have my new mail. Thru Gmail app, I always receive notifications. I use 3 different email accts & like having access to them from 1 app.
I think you need to go into the Mail app settings and and set your receive settings. Make sure the the app is set to "push" emails..meaning you will be notified as they are received.

Hello xda community,
Recently I have jumped back from iPhone to android and decided to buy mate 10 pro - I have been loving it so far. There is only one issue I can't fix no matter what:
Notification badges (count) doesn't appear on 2 email apps I use: on Inbox and on Outlook.
I have tried everything. I have set power options so that these applications have all permissions, I have checked the in-app settings to see if everything is enabled there, I have checked that notifications are enabled for all emails within the apps and I have long pressed the home screen, went under notification Badge app icons and have set Badge display mode to Unread message and gave that permission to all apps.
After doing all that, notification badges appear on messaging app, SMS app, Dialer - but not on my two emailing apps.
Is there any trick I'm missing here. I work with two email accounts alot, so if anyone could help me resolve, or tell me if the badges work for them would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Leafberry
The first suggestion I'd make is that you amalgamate all of your mail accounts into K-9 Mail and forget about the double-handling.
I can tell you that the badges work with K-9 Mail, though if there are more than 9 unread messages, the badge will be a single white dot in the centre of the badge background. Is this what you're experiencing with Inbox and Outlook, or are there simply no badges applied to the icons whatsoever?
I haven't tried either Outlook or Inbox on my Mate 10 Pro but I'm currently using this email app which I have been using it since I had my iPhone 5s and it works great. I'm running over 10 email accounts within the app and it's been great so far.
And regards to your problem, the badge works fine for it as now I have 31 of unread emails.
I can't post a link as I'm a new member but you can try to download the app Play Store. The app is in Beta stage:
Email - Fast & Secure mail for Gmail Outlook & more (Beta)
