Google Search Marshmallow - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating to 6.01 when I long press the home button I get an annoying "Want answers before you ask" box & at the moment, an annoying graphic of Beethoven.
I don't want to use Google Now. Is there a way of getting rid of the box etc & just having a simple Google Search on the long press as it used to be ?
I know that I can use widgets etc but I would like to retain the long press function.

How will Samsung implement the JB voice action?

Since its a...hold the home button, then Swype up to the virtual icon that pops up to activate Google Now.
Any ideas as to what they will do? I knew this button thing was a bad idea. :cyclops:
I think (though I may be mistaken) you can also access Google Now the same way you access voice search (the mike icon on the search bar on the home screen). This would obviously be much less convenient, though.
In my opinion they should kick s-voice to the curb! but thats just me
That's right...double tap brings up Voice. Maybe that's what they will do. Sucks that because of S Voice...there is a slight pause after pressing the button once to get back Home.
simple, replace long-press menu.
They might implement re-assigning the home button function, JB Voice looks pretty sweet.

Long Press Home Button for Google Now Search

Im really loving the new goolge now search feature. I use it for lots lof things like texts, directions, timers, alarms and the sort. I was wondering if anyone was able to make the default long press of the home button linked to the search function. I was even hoping to have this available from a locked device, not password protected of course.
It most be a difficult mod since I've tried a lot of the roms, even those with hardware button options, and non are able to do it.
I'm not sure if you are using any rom like Stock ROM, but if you use any custom ROM based on Cyanogenmod ROM, then this should work.
Goto--> Settings-->Cyanogenmod Settings--> Hardware Keys --> Home button (Long press) ---> change the option to Search Assistant.
This Search Assistant, by default connects to Google Now (Its getting connected to Google Now in my device).

Hereticnine.

RAZR Voice Commands on search button short press to Google search voice prompt

Been looking for a solution to this for a while, since my answer wasn't exactly posted anywhere I thought I could help others , this can literally save your life if driving !! Google search still parses commands much better than vendor apps("text bill hey I'll get at u later") ..:good: works too if you want to launch apps from search key, short press only.... would suggest trying MENU instead of VOICE, but try them both if you want.
HOW TO REMAP SEARCH KEY TO GOOGLE SEARCH DIRECT VOICE PROMPT
This worked for me on stock Android 4.1.2 rooted, remember backup before you edit:
1. Root
2. Edit /system/usr/keylayout/cy8c201xx.kl
3. Change from
key 217 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED VIRTUAL
To
key 217 VOICE WAKE_DROPPED VIRTUAL
4. Save and reboot
Does spaz a bit on long press, but short press it will FINALLY let you choose an app.....and don't be fooled, choosing Google doesnt bring up the general Google Search with all the cards and crap, its just a voice prompt directly to the new Google voice search...exactly what i needed. Again only short press works but it's awesome having the nice, accurate voice commands back from 4.0 and older Android released on RAZR when long press search key worked. May take a few selections and selecting "always" a couple times, then reboot for it to hold.
It works....make it easy...I didnt use the search bar anyway....:good:
works nice on my droid 4, but removes any long-press google now functionality. thanks for this

[Q] Remapping capacitive keys

Trying to remap the long press on the menu button on my S5 by editing the .kl files.
Managed to get single press to open menu, but long press refuses to do anything other than open first the google search, then samsung's search apps.
EDIT: Partially solved, nova launcher was set to open search, now it only opens the samsung one. Still doesnt open recent apps.
Xposed framework button remapper manages to do it, so I know it's possible, but there's no hapatic feedback
All suggestions welcome!

Google Assistant button Remap

Hi dears,
I would share here our analysis/solution about the way to remap the Google Assistant button with other features... e.g. the camera.
Thanks for your collaboration.
I like the double tap for Lens. I like the hold down for voice. I wish the single tap would take you to Google Discover feed though. Seems like tapping it and holding it down pretty much do the same thing.
I'd like to disable it altogether because my big hands keep activating it.
Or maybe a Double-Tap to activate it (or any other programmed App).
Thanks, I'll be watching closely.
Disable Google Assistant key ALL MODELS
Here is where disable the Google Assistant key
I agree. I like the HOLD to open assistant. I love the double tap to LENS. I ****ing hate single press to open assistant. I constantly hit it on accident.
Disabled
I had it disabled from the start. It's an insult (as always) to force functions on you without options. I never use assistant and never will. It's a simple thing for Lg and/or Google to give us plenty of options, in this case, to remap to anything we like.

Important Note!
It is possible to change the assistant button to launch the Amazon Alexa app.
So maybe it would be possible to get a custom app to show up in the selecton menu.
(See attached screenshots, they're german though.)
Sadly enough,

That only assigns the home touch button
and several apps can do that...

Alright... I should have tried that before pointing it out... In fact if you set it to Alexa, hitting the Assistant Button will prompt you to change it back to Google Assistant instead of either launching Alexa or just bringing up Google Assistant... Which basically makes the button completely pointless...
Has there ever been a more pointless hardware button than the 'Google Assistant' button?
Root/Xposed is possibly the solution.
Is it possible to remap the button by using Google Play Apps like this ones?

Maybe some LG product manager reads all this threads about us, wanting the "Google Assistant Button" to be remappable to any other app. But maybe not...
Please don´t just write here about your anger, but start doing something more. Help LG to see, that there is room for improvement.
It is possible to contact LG via an email form. If they got an email from everybody in all this threads - maybe they´ll start thinking about changing something.
And please keep in mind, that one customer complaining means many more (probably thousands) thinking the same thing.
I wrote to them and choosed "Product Operation" at the "Type of inquiry" field and asked how to change the button remapping. If you want to write to them too - here are the links to the feedback forms:

No!

PSA the pro version of Button Mapper now supports the LG Google Assistant button... not sure if you need root. I can confirm working great on stock rooted Pie with lots of options for the button functionality. It will cost you 5 bucks though...
Confirming

Would love to remap it to play/pause for a music player. This is coming from someone who still uses mp3 players though.
