Hello guys,
I yesterday updated to CM13(from cm11),found as an update in CyanogenMod Updates 18.12.2015.
I firstly thought that it wouldnt need new gapps or wipe data/cache,till i find out that after install my i9300 couldnt leave Boot.
After that i tried to do a factory reset/wipe cache partition/wipe dalvik and then reinstall cm13 update only to find out that the problem hasn't been resolved....
Should i try to install CM13 and Gapps 6.0 through ODIN?
what will fix my problem?
Thanks in advance for your time.
I also, tried to factory reset/etc. to install the previous update that i had (cm11 ) but the problem persists!
SOLUTION
So finally I resolved the issue!
Thanks very much for help v7!
I 'll write here all the steps that i did to find the solution in case someone in the future straggle with the same problem.
1)I ve incorrectly tried to install the CM13 as an CM update (previous version: CM11)
2)After the install I couldnt get pass the CM Boot icon and i could only access the recovery mode.
3)Tried to flash previous CM11 versions (also did factory reset, cache and dalvik) but it didn't help.
So the steps to the solution to the problem were:
1)Factory reset and power off the phone
2)Found (as v7 pointed) the stock firmware through here: http://samsung-updates.com/device/ (be carefull to choose the right hardware!)
3)Connect I9300 to Odin software While phone is in download mode (you can enter by pressing HOME Button+Power Button+Volume Down)
4)Choose through the PDA option in Odin the firmware that you 've downloaded (the file type will be in MD5 form so u might need to unzip first)
5)Hit Start Button and leave all the other features intact in ODIN!
6)after installation boot into the stock firmware that you ve just installed.
7)If the boot finished succesfully then continue:
8)Find an Software or a .tar file to REROOT your phone (i ve used CF-autoroot file, which i installed through odin -as you did with the stock firmware)
9)After installing the Root,Boot again the phone, download SuperSU (through playstore), then download root checker and finally flashify so you will be able to install TWRP recovery.
10)Approve Root checker and flashify through SuperSU(in order to verify your root and later flash TWRP)
11)Download latest TWRP (v7 suggested https://dl.twrp.me/i9300/twrp-2.8.7.3-i9300.img ) and copy it to your ext.SD Card.
12)Open Flashify and choose "Boot Image",select the twrp version you've copied in your SD Card and let it flash it.
13)After a succesfull flash,Power off your phone and press Home Button+Power Button+Volume Up to enter the TWRP recovery mode.
14)Through there you ll be able to install the latest CM13 followed by the GAPPS (which are needed in order to have access to Playstore)
You can download the latest Nightly version through here: http://get.cm/?device=i9300&type=nightly
and the latest GAPPS through here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=41043 *(i ve used the latest version of mini GAPPS just to be more precise).

Hey everyone, ive searched all over and havent been able to find a solution.
I've followed the instructions on how to root using CF-ROOT (odin) and successfully rooted and booted into cwm and installed Resurection remix 1.0.. Everything works great, except when i try to reboot and go back into CWM i get android system recovery <3e> and not cwm.
The only way to recover is to install cwm or cfroot from odin again and reinstall the rom.
Any idea what i'm doing wrong? thanks
Don't know, try to change rom and see if it happens again... I'm on v3rtr3ma and is really good.. Tried also wanamlite 9.9..

That reads as the rom you are using has no built in CWM recovery .
Logic says ask the rom builder or in his post .

Like JJEgan says, the ROM then sound like it comes with its own kernel, that DOESN'T have CWM recovery, but standard Android recovery. ROMs come with their own kernels, so every time you flash kernel first, then ROM, you are replacing the CF-root kernel, thus losing CWM recovery.
Just re flash the CF-root kernel to get it back after you flash the ROM. There is no need to flash the ROM again after you flash the kernel.
Try installing Rom Manager and make a recovery once installed (top item in rom manager)

correct me if im wrong.
you're REINSTALLING the rom, after you flash CF-ROOT? if you reinstall the rom, then cwm will be deleted.
You can use this temporary signed CWM zip.In recovery, choose apply update from storage and flash the zip and you get CWM. When you reboot, it will be gone.
This was taken from Here
You better take a look here for further information.

If he's installing CF-root, CWM and ROM Manager tend not to play nice together.
Look in the Resurection Remix OP!
After you installed Resurection Remix let it boot and flash CWM-zip from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854. That should give you 2nd recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
NOTE: İF YOU WANT FLASH SOMETHİNG FROM CWM RECOVERY FİRST YOU MUST İNSTALL CWM.ZİP FROM STOCK RECOVERY MOD(APPLY UPDATE FROM EXTERNAL STORAGE AND CHOOSE CWM.ZİP AND İNSTALL)
AND NOW TOUCH RECOVERY MODE WİLL APPEAR THAN YOU CAN FLASH ZİP FİLES

LOL, indeed, reading the first post of the ROM thread is a good idea too.
OP, as gee2012 notes, there is a NOTE in the Resurrection Remix thread in all caps, right under the "Rom Installation (please don`t miss any step! )" section.
On an unrelated note: gee2012, you of Chinese descent?
EDIT: Whoops! didn't see jakezpeenz's post. Sorry, not meaning to repeat what a bunch of other people already said.

hi
I can confirm that after installing ICS remix you need to flash the cwm tar thru Odin after you install ICS to get CWM
I had to do it yesterday
Heres what I have done so far
- Rooted Phone
- Flashed TWRP 2.3.3.0
- Downloaded latest nightly rom
- Factory Reset
- Install rom
It starts the install and then flashes up an error 7. I then have to do a restore to get the phone usable again. Did not see this error in forum and wondered if anyone knew anything about it?
Thanks in advance.

Yes it is go ahead.. Latest Phil's is having some problems... I would suggest 6.0.08 version of Phil's...

If you update your TWRP install to the latest version, (2.6.3.1), you'll be able to flash CM11 with no problems.
My issues are now resolved. I thought I would post for anyone else who finds themselves in this situation.
I used the Samsung Galaxy GS3 Toolkit to root my phone. The issue with this was that both options for recovery were out of date!
I flashed the latest clockwork mod and worked perfectly.
Thanks everyone that posted for your assistance!

on cyanogenmod wiki page,i found installation of clockworkmod recov using heimdall..everything went fine ...blue progress bar was shown in the download mode...and when i rebooted into recovery mode i saw the first danger sign..there was a yellow triangle beneath galaxy note logo..
and then it booted into clockworkmod recovery 5.8..Foolishly i did a system backup..rebooted...surprised to find phone went into black screen after displaying a note logo with yellow triangle beneath..tried recovery from clockworkmod without hope but that didnt work as expected...
This is the situation..All i need now is to install cyanogenmod 10.1.3 stable on my device..i dont want a custom rom backup anymore..

At first flash a Samsung firmware through Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I recommend you not using Rom Manager. Have a look at PhilZ's thread for having a safe kernel and custom recovery to be able to backup and flash what you want.
doubt
Can i flash stock rom from sammobile

Yes you can but the most important thing on N7000 is to have a SAFE kernel before wiping or flashing from recovery. (more details in the N7100 sections)
Here are the general instructions to flash a new custom rom:
1. Having root and a working custom recovery (updated)
2. Boot into recovery mode (VOL DOWN + POWER + HOME) then VOL UP to accept the warning.
3. Make a Nandroid backup and backup your EFS.
4. Full wipe: wipe data (factory reset), cache, dalvik and system. Recoveries are different. You may need to go to another menu to format the system partition.
5. Flash rom
6. Flash Gapps
7. Reboot normally
First
I install TWRP 2.7.1.0 touch recovery of LuK1337 using Odin...
It was success...
Second
I install GenNxt Pre-Rooted Stock of balliboxer using TWRP 2.7.1.0 touch recovery of LuK1337.
it was not successfuly, there was an error...
C:Unable to mount '/cache'
then when i open my phone its on a bootloop.
i can't use it.
Please help me in this problem..
It's the same as any almost any other Samsung that gets in a bootloop without a nandroid backup - use Odin and the original firmware to restore the phone back to stock and start over.
you can fix it easily by flashing the original firmware.
search on google for GT-i9060 original firmware and you will find a youtube video with a link in his description. then download the original rom (it's about 1300mb) and flash it via Odin.
please make a video about this plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

do u find solution ?? i had same prob
Hi all, first off. Thanks to all devs and the XDA team for providing an invaluable resource which has provided me with the information to successfully flash all of my phones over the years.
TL;DR : CM13 Flash > Repartition > Can't flash gapps using CMRecovery > Factory reset+cache wipe > Stuck in Bootloop > reflashed Lanchon TRIM IsoRec > Still stuck in Bootloop.
I've encountered a problem which I'll try to detail as best as possible.
I wanted to upgrade my S2 i1900 to the latest Cyanogenmod, going from v11 (4.4.4) to v13 (6.0.1). I did this successfully, however I neglected to repartition the device as instructed which left me without gapps.
So I went back and attempted to repartition the device using Odin. The partition was successful. I then attempted to flash gapps using the native CM Recovery. Suprise, surprise I was unable to, needing to instead use either CWM or TWRP.
Whilst in the CMRecovery I wiped cache and performed a factory reset. I am now stuck on the CM loading screen. I did wait and wait and wait as is custom for first boots but I find myself locked in the dreaded bootloop.
I reflashed the IsoRec Tar file for CM13 with no luck or change. I know I'm missing something, I just can't put my finger on it...
Thanks,
Reflashed to stock partition using Odin:
kernel-Lanchon-TRIM-IsoRec-20160207-cm-13.0-i9100-for-ODIN.tar
and
I9100_STOCK-System_2GB-Data_512MB-Preload.pit
Still stuck in bootloop/softbrick.
Hi,
You are using the wrong pit file, that's why gapps can't be flashed.
You need to use a pit file with 1GB system partition.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
The issue isn't with the gapps package, I was well aware before upgrading to CM13 that the 5XXmb (Stock) system partition .pits would not suffice if i wanted both CM13 and gapps. The issue is I have soft bricked my S2 with CM13 bootloop.

I assume that you know that CM recovery in CM13 is broken?
You should be using TWRP for your recovery, making sure to wipe system, data and cache. (Backup as always).
Isorec kernel is not required on CM13. Just flash TWRP (see thread for more details).
There is also a CM13 upgrade guide I made that should help solve 99% of these issues.

I can't boot into recovery mode, not even after following your guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...es/guide-want-to-update-to-cm13-read-t3313978
Which leads to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57974756&postcount=4
Kernel which flashed successfully, but failed to boot was:

You are looking at the wrong thing.
Scroll down until you see " If you forgot to flash Isorec Recovery when upgrading, this is what you can do:"
Try the ADB Sideload method first. If that doesn't work, try the terminal method. If you are following the second method, you need to follow the flashing guide again, but making sure to flash TWRP here. You only need to flash the TWRP isorec recovery and not the kernel itself.

Sorry, but I don't think you've read any of my posts properly.
I can't do ADB Sideload as I can't get into CMRecovery, after following your guide that "fixes 99% of problems".
I can't do the terminal method either because I can't get into the ROM, as I'm softbricked; stuck on the CM13 bootloop.
The only thing I now have access to is the Download mode.
Out of frustration I kept spamming the recovery (vol up+home+power) and managed to boot into TWRP v2.8.7.0
If i follow your guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...es/guide-want-to-update-to-cm13-read-t3313978
From "If you require to use Gapps, make sure to re-partition your phone now if you haven't done so! This can be done by following one of the guides linked in the Gapps section" onwards, I should be ok, correct?

Yep, you should be fine following that guide onwards.
Let me know if you encounter any other issues.

Ok, so I reflashed I9100_1GB-System_4GB-Data_512MB-Preload.pit, but now I can't get back into TWRP!! I did not flash a different/new kernel alongside it.
vol_up+home+power just keeps looping the battery icon.
Should I have flashed the kernel WITH the .pit?
Thanks for all your help thus far.

Yep, it is required for you to flash kernel alongside the pit file.

I'm really stuck on what to do now >.<
Any ideas?
Edit: When I go into Download mode this info appears:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-i9100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (8 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
So I'm guessing that the "8 Counts" if from me flashing data and its getting piled on top of each other. I've tried using the "nand erase all" option but that fails as well.

Try using this guide:
[GUIDE][Troubleshoot a failed Odin flash]
Usually write failures usually mean that your device has been bricked. However, it is necessary to test every other method before drawing this conclusion.
Maybe try stock pit file.

Success! Sort of...
I was able to recover the phone in its entirety using the section:
Another option for i9100
If you have an i9100, probably the best option to flash is to flash 4.1.2 JellyBean leak. Huge thanks to It_ler for providing the file after it was lost during the shutdown of hosting site hotfile.com and re-hosting on his dev-host, and for keithross39 for re-hosting the file on his storage. Download it here: (Android File Host link) or here: Mega link. This is a 3-part firmware. It will wipe your device as it flashes, and in many cases this extra wipe while flashing contributes to a successful flash. To set this file up in Odin (as it is 3 parts): PDA = CODE_I9100XXLSJ.tar, PHONE = MODEM_I9100XXLS6.tar, and CSC = CSC_HOME_OXX_I9100OXXLS1.tar. As usual, do not tick 'repartition'.

Thank you gsstudios for your time and patience, I'll reattempt the upgrade to CM13 when I have the patience again.

TL;DR 1 - Can't root Galaxy S2 gt-i9100? Use Siyah CWM Recovery.
TL;DR2 - Stock CM13 Recovery appears to be working.
Hi Gsstudios, thought you might like to know my progress.
I came across a problem with the JB firmware I used to recover my phone in that I couldn't gain root. I tried KingoRoot and the update.zip method from CWM and TWRP. But either root would only be temporary until I rebooted the phone, or the update.zip refused to flash entirely. I also could not find a ChainFire fix for my specific ROM. I ended up using Siyah's CWM recovery.
Whilst Siyah's CWM recovery granted me root apps like rootchecker would not recognise it. The warning triangle at launch said otherwise! So I risked it and followed your guide from that start. CM13 was flashed successfully, but again I forgot to flash gapps. On reboot to recovery I was greeted with CM13Recovery. I flashed gapps, reboot to OS and received a tonne of errors. Went back to CM13Recovery wiped everything, reflashed CM13 & gapps using CM13Recovery!!
And hey presto! Everything is working again and now on A-M6.0.1
