Google Keyboard's gesture typing enabled but not working - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S3, SGH-I747M, Android version 4.1.2.
I have installed Google Keyboard but gesture typing (i.e. swiping) does not work. There's a check in the box for "Enable gesture typing", but it doesn't work.
As an experiment, i installed SwiftKey keyboard and swiping works on SwiftKey.
So why won't Google Keyboard swiping/gestureTyping work?

[Q] [SK17i] slide-out keyboard vs keyboard apps?

when I'm using any third party keyboard app (8pen, SwiftKey, whatever), the slide-out keyboard isn't supported. it's working, but there's no icon in statusbar saying if I'll type in upper case or lower case or if the blue button is activated permanently or not, and the symbols button doesn't work anymore.
did anyone found some workaround? maybe some app that changes the keyboard to stock international when I slide open my phone?

Switching Keyboards function!

Good morning,
First of, I did use GOOGLE and the search button on here but couldn't get my answer. So, here I am.
Ok, I like both Samsung and Google keyboards, but on Samsung keyboard, I installed my national language so I can talk to my dad and it is perfectly working for me. However, when I type English, I prefer Google keyboard because it does not predict with the mix of my language like the Samsung and screw up my typing.
On the Google keyboard, I can simply hold the space bar and the keyboard switching window pops up and let me choose other keyboard.
My question is, can I setup the Samsung keyboard to have the same effect so I can switch back and forth between the keyboards without going through the setup menus ?
Thanks!

On-screen keyboard popping up when connected to keyboard dock.

The on-screen keyboard popping up when ever I select a text box (ie. Google search) while I'm connected to keyboard dock? I'm on a TF201 KatKiss 5.1.1
and started a few days after I updated to 5.1.1 so I believe a setting got changed somewhere, but where?
NP
Had to disable it in setting> language & input> current keyboard (uncheck)

Does ZW2 allow for screen writing text input on AW2?

AW 2.0 is supposed to have a screen writing text entry method. I can't find a way to invoke it on ZenWatch 2 large. Long hold on keyboard icon in Messages should do it but that only takes me to a keyboard choice, 'Google Keyboard'. Anyone else?
I have the 1.65 model and I have the same problem. Google assistant isnt working for me either. Says google cannot be reached. Going to factory reset and do a fresh pair up.
My wife has the 1.45 model and just updated hers to 2.0. Everything seems to be working fine on her watch.
Yes, you can use handwriting, much better than the standard keyboard
You have to download it in the playstore on your watch.

Installed but no success
Thanks for that. Installed to watch, app installed normally, Handwriting does not appear an an input option. Reset watch once, no change. Powered off then back on, no change. Handwriting does not appear as an option for text entry. Checked Handwriting app settings and all seems normal there.

You have to enable it. Settings->Personalization->Input Methods then tap Google Handwriting Keyboard to activate. When you go to type, long press the keyboard icon and it should come up with the option to select between the keyboard and handwriting.

Worked for me too. Thanks! Also, doing a fresh sync to my phone got Google Assistant to work! Loving AW 2 so far.

Dex keyboard mapping wrong

Hello, my S7(regular version) keyboard mapping suddenly changed. Some of the symbol keys have been switched around and I cannot use the top numbers row like I used to. Before I had to press shift to type a number, now it is automatically a number. I use the Belgian azerty keyboard setting normally but it is pretty much unuseable for work right now.
This change seems to have come since the last update and it is incredibly annoying. Anyone know a fix?
I've already tried changing the settings for the keyboards but to no avail. Even when sharing the keyboard with my note 9 it keeps doing this. Or when I switch to a Bluetooth keyboard instead of the Samsung keyboard cover.

So you are talking about the keyboard connected to the Dex workstation (computer / pc), not the S7 keyboard. Right?
But what update are you talking about? Dex update, or S7 update?
I assume Dex update.
So it seems to be a Dex issue which should be solved in Dex ... somewhere.
Oh, I have to update my Dex too before I can check.
Now I have DeX for PC version 2.0.0.21
In Dex settings - general administration - physical keyboard I set the same keyboard layout as in windows. And it works for me.
You can try to enable the option to show the screen keyboard in Dex.
Or just changed the keyboard layout to something else (in Windows and Dex). Hopefully you find a combination that works for you.
