Hello,
I have been considering to make a setup for a music jukebox fed by a NAS HDD. There are quite a lot of dedicated product for multimedia player, but they all require a display to browse the NAS files (except the squeezeBox touch, wich looks almost like what I would like to have, but requires proprietary soft, not working with any NAS).
Basically, I want to manage music for my living room, but I want to keep any display away as much as possible.
So I thought that a kind of small tablet could do the job.
Requirements :
Acces to the NAS via network, preferably via ethernet.
Stereo output (any kind even if digital is prefered).
Small display 7 inch ok, 10 inch maximum (I don't want any angry birds invasion).
Cool file browser, preferably with music management (artist, style, album tags... CD cover if available).
I discovered that Archos made cool tablet and that OS may be hacked, so I can expect to find a good rom for this kind of use (or may be cook my own, though I don't look forward this)
More of all, you can find cheap Archos 7.0 home, Arnova... devices.
So now I think the best is to ask to those who already know the more about the device (and I would apreciate any advice for I might need something else).
So far I know there are no decent android tablet with ethernet port (I'd rather not have to rely on WiFi), but may be there are some adaptor.
Thank you for reading. More thangs to come for those how will take time to answer.
Not sure exactly what you want but it sounds like you should look at MPD, the Music Player Daemon. I set it up on my file server (a linux box, not a NAS) and there are android clients for it that let me control it from anywhere I get wi-fi. I've also seen MPD run on openwrt devices too... google "mighty ohm wi-fi radio" for more.
Thank you Jimmy,
Indeed, I found some soft that could do the job. I guess you recommend this project. Sounds like very promising.
In fact I have more question about the hardware. I don't think the Archos 7 home provide any kind of ethernet port even through an adaptor. So I'll need to set up WiFi (I don't use WiFi at the moment, for I prefer wired solution). I discovered that it is possible to hack the Archos tablets, but I don't know for now what are the gen8 and gen9. I suppose that Archos 7 home are g8, but not sure for now.
May be should I consider some other hardware issue, but since I only intend to read music I suppose the archos 7 home should have enough CPU power.
Another alternative seem to be an Archos9PC, but first it is more expencive, then it runs Windows I really don't know.
You are wrong, the Archos 7 Home ( you are in the wrong forum for that ) is Gen7.
Gen8 ( 8th Generation ) is the Archos 70 Internet Tablet.
While the HT has enough cpu power, i don't think you will be happy with it, but who knows.
The Gen8 has UPnP directly in the Firmware and the std Musikplayer allready has an option to use the "normal" twonky ( or whatever is running on your NAS) Server.
You can use a OTG Cable and a USB-Ethernet adapter, but Wifi is alot easier.

Ok, If I understand well, gen7 won't be possible for rom change. NoGood.

Thank you for the advise. I suspected something like this. I'll keep on reading.

I suggest as I do. Run NAS with the DLNA. Setup a western digital hd media player to your audio/video system. Use the "bubble upnp" app on your Archos to controlled it all. I use this method and am able to play content from the NAS to the WDHDTV or straight to the tablet or vise versa... from tablet to WDHDTV... bubble does it ALL.... if you want video too...HD video maybe? Use a PC/Linux or some Box to run TVMOBILI on your box and have it index the NAS instead of the built in NAS Dlna... it is better Dlna server and supports MKV without transcode... and also supports AllShare (Samsung TV protocol) so you can just use your Samsung TV as your player instead of WDHDTV player... I have all 5 things running now and I have many options in my media arsenal

Looks like the kind of app I'm looking for. Thank you Josh.
I do NOT want anything but music, for I 've banned TV and internet from the living room. (TV and net have dedicated place). I don't want to set up a LinuxBox either (I'll probably do that for the HDTV in another place, but one thing at a time).
So the questions are :
-Would an Archos 7Home be good enougth for that ?
-If yes, is it possible to change the ROM of the Archos 7 home for a homecooked optimized rom ?
-is there somewhere an option (as for Archos9PC) to cradle the archos 7 Home whit a ethernet port (to avoid Wifi) ?
Finally, considering the NAS working along with bubble upnp, is it required to install some soft on the NAS and are there some kind of incompatibility (that's one of the drawback I see with the logitech squeeze box touch)
Hi Everyone,
I am googling for some time now but can not find easy solution to my problem.
I got some videos on my S3 (it is mainly about the ones (for the future) freshly recorded.
I would love to be able to stream them to my Windows 8 PC (Windows Media Player preferably) in order to show them to bigger public.
Example:
My Son was skiing first time today. I took some clips. later on at home every one wanted to see them. I had my Asus TF810c with 11" screen with me so it was obvious that it will be more comfortable for all to watch on bigger screen.
Both devices were on the same WiFi network (created by mobile router), I was trying to "play" with WiFi direct - nothing worked
Is there an easy way to do it?

Not an option.
On a slow broadband (in my case in weekend house we got 0,5 mbps gsm one) it would take ages to upload and ages to download.
I wanted to use local WiFI to do it.
Now I suppose the issue was with limited abilities of mobile router we were using. Just got home and on my landline broadband and stand alone router it worked like charm. S3 is visible as media server and in built in player there is option (once media are shared) to "scan for nearby devices" and pc is visible (in WMP is running). So playback can be started both from S3 (if WMP has "Allow for remote control" option on) and from WMP it self as S3 is visible as network library.
So again - it must be WiFi router fault I could not do it before.
SORTED! Close please!
AW: [Q] How to stream videos to PC?

You need to have options for Streamig Media enabled in your Windows Media Player. I think they are not on by default.
Once that is done, you should be able to see PC on your Android device as a device you can share your media to.
I no longer have S3 (to annoying device for me) as I got myself Lumia 920, so I can not provide you with mode retaild info.
But on Lumia it works in a very similar way.
Hi the easiest way I'd suggest is to use Airdroid.....its a simple app which lets you see everything on your phone through a web browser....provided you are connected via the same wifi network...
check this out

hope this helped
worked

Hey Guys,
Im using a tab pro 12.2 and running stock rooted deodexed, and Im wondering if I buy the chromecast dongle - will I be able to mirror my device straight to the screen (I want to mirror custom videos not through youtube etc) with mxplayer pro. My TV doesnt have any sort of wifi, but it does have a hdmi slot - hence going with chromecast.
Pixel
Yes there are ways to do this
The TV doesn't need WiFi, just your home and device (tablet, phone, PC)
I can only cast screen natively from my nexus devices or PC but there are apps that allow for this
Check the Chromecast threads for more info
Oh, and the best $35 I ever spent, over a year now and still use it daily
Ok thanks, didnt realise there was a specific chromecast forums
Hi there, I am trying to decide between a Dell Venue 10 7000 (looks great) and a Samsung Tablet S2 .
The Dell ticks all the boxes but I have seen enough people say they cant cast their screen to a Chromecast. I want this feature because I run some video apps such as NBC Sports Live which dont have Chromecast built in and I want to stream them wirelessly on TV. I can do it with my old Nexus 7 2013 beautifully.
Can anyone definitively verify if they can cast screen (not an app) to a Chromecast?
If its not possible how is it when you cast screen to a Dellcast (which I presume I plug into HDMI port on Samsung tv). Is it laggy or perfect?
Thanks,
Simon
Sorry, replied thinking you were talking about venue 7840. My mistake.
Hi,
Was using a USB C to HDMI wired mirror screening dongle with LG V20 earlier without any issue but even though Poco F1 plays USB DAC and other storage devices normally mirroring doesn't work at all. Is dongle not compatible or Miui issue? Anyone using a mirroring dongle successfully then pls link it.

I've read a couple of threads on here and one on Mi forums where people have found the same. I'm hoping it will be added in a software update. Meanwhile it casts to Chromecast natively (not what you're asking for, but something)

Yeah looks like one of those things that Xiaomi thinks doesn't matter to include. Also, I see 'wireless display' in settings on Poco but doesn't mention what kind. So my extended question is does it support Miracast/DLNA?

The "wireless display" function initiates Chromecast screen cast. It might do Miracast as well but I don't have a dongle to test
Found that OP5 has same issue and they found a solution https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/themes/wired-tv-one-plus-5-makes-displaylink-t3667974 though it's more expensive than a Chromecast/Miracast. I miss my LG now.
My Poco F1 also not connecting to MI Android TV through Miracast

It does support Miracast. Tested it with my Amazon Firestick.
It connects easily very easily through Mira cast to mi tv.

In other thread someone wrote it didn't work with his Miracast device. So it's still not clear.
Not for me
Earlier it used to connect to my mi tv but now it doesn't. Also checked with Chromecast and fire TV 4k

I think that I read somewhere that it is Google which has made the change in Pie so that only Chromecast will connect. May be an earlier version of android will help.
Hi! I don't want to start another thread, so I'll describe my issue here.
I have last MIUI 10.3.8.0 and I have problems with screen mirroring. Previous MIUI I used to connect my phone to my Samsung TV and it worked as a charm. Yesterday i tried to connect again, but i didn't manage to connect. Have anyone the same problem? Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Did u find a solution bro? I'm facing same issue.
Yes, I did hard reset and all is OK now.
Hi you all probably figured this out already but it seems that screen mirroring native miracast is broken on most recent xiaomi phone models since they were updated. I have a Redmi Note 5 (Whyred), a mi max 2 and a mi max 3. Only the Max 2 works normally. The other models can cast using apps that cast like Prime Video, VLC etc but can't simply mirror whatever is on the screen. The Miui forums are full of such reports. No response from Xiaomi and no viable workaround. I was already reluctant to upgrade because Id been waiting for MHL hardwired video out to be implemented and it never was (Id pay a premium fot a xiaomi phone that had it). I saw a couple of XDA threads where folks got mirroring to work via custom roms and my phone is rooted but I am uncertain which rom might accomplish this fix for my particular model.
These are my last Xiaomi phones unless I see something official from them about a solution for this known problem. Mirroring is anessential for me not just for entertainment but for work.
Hi I finally solved the problem of screen cast
first (turn on Bluetooth and WiFi )
Then enable the Screen mirroring on the TV
Then connect the WiFi to the TV
Enable Screen cast on phone and search and connect to TV

Poco X3 is not able to Cast screen by using Wireless Display or Google Home App with Google Chromecast. Need solution.
I don't know whether this might help anyone else but I had disabled miconnect package on my Xiaomi devices. when I re-enabled miconnect service and uniplay service, Chromecast started working again (I am not sure why miconnect should matter ... it isn't supposed to be related to non xiaomi devices, but it is something else to try if you disabled it too).
