Hi all,
I've flashed quite a few times before I settled with my current Insanity rom. But then I decided to try out some new ones since I have time during the holidays.
I tried flashing Omega and Delv with cwm (Whatever version they currently have now), both at the startup didn't allow me to bypass by pressing the 4 corners. i thought nothing of it and just continued on and restored my stuff using titanium backup. before my sms, gmail accounts and call logs will get restored but it didn't for both. so i decided to restart my phone to see if it'll come up. it did not. in fact, the data connection goes missing. (i did get data connection when i first loaded up the phone right after the flash using cwm) i only have full bar of signal, but no data.
I thought it was just a rom thing or a bad download, that's why I tried flashing another rom, but once I restart my phone, the data connection goes.
I got so frustrated that I just restored my old (current) rom from cwm.
If anyone can help me on finding out what may be the problem, that'll be great. I really do want to start flashing different roms again because I'm getting bored with my current one.
thanks in advance!

I'm sorry my English award is not very good I am a Chinese.
can you make sure that you have wipe your phone 2 times?
wipe data factory reset and wipe cache partition? before you flash a new rom?
and the problem may be your kernel don't work well . you can flash another new kernel or flash a new cwm
wipe your phone is very important
if these mind can not make your data well you should flash your phone
by odin . use this software to make your phone well
thank you for your reply.
I have wiped my phone very thoroughly: wipe cache, factory reset and even dalvik.
aren't the kernels automatically installed when i install through CWM?
i'm not too sure about this kernel thing as the many times I flashed before, I never had to install kernels on its own through odin. i just flash the zip file of the rom through CWM and it's all good.
so you're saying i should use odin to flash instead of cwm? is there a major difference? i'm much more comfortable with cwm though.
Try flashing a new modem .
Check IMEI is correct .

Have you set your APN settings correctly according to your phone carrier's settings?
Also try your carrier's CSC on your phone.
Set your APN manually, I had this before as well...
Other options is to get the Tweaker App from the Market and when connected via Wifi then it sets your APN as well.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The APN one sounds easier to do. That option's under wireless and networks correct?
Currently, I only have one selected. I'll check it out when I flash the new rom.
What's this csc though??

Hi everybody!
Yesterday, I applied a custom rom to my Galaxy Note and after a successful installation, my data plan wasn't working like it used to be.
I have to say this isn't the first time I have done this, and in the previous opportunities after flashing the rom and rebooting, the EDGE/3G icon appeared by itself detecting my data plan. I never had to configure the APN settings (like it is said in many posts I have seen here).
So, when I realize that it wasn't working properly, I re-flashed the rom but didn't worked. So then, I downloaded the ICS stock rom and flashed it through Odin, hoping it would reset all things here and would give me the initial configuration, but that didn't work either.
I have entered through settings and deactivated/activated the options related to mobile data, but that icon never appears or my data connection showed up.
Forgot to mention that this phone was unlocked through cellunlocker by code, and that I can make phone calls with no problem and also the Wifi works fine... And thank you in advance for any advice/help that you could make
If it's happening with different ROMs then take a look at your modem (baseband). Are you using I717UCLF6? Go to System Settings-About Phone-Baseband Version.
Like ^^^^ said, and you didn't say it, but I'm guessing T-Mobile. So flash any ROM you like, reboot and let but settle in, then flash the Blaze 4G or whatever T-Mobile modem works best for you.
You did enter your APN info?

When I flash my new custom rom, I still didn't notice that I can't use my mobile data. When I get RR as my permanent rom, when I checked the mobile data, it's not working anymore. I tried flashing every rom, but it's not really working. I tried all solutions, APN, factory reset, efs everything! But it's not working. I reverted back to the stock rom, and it's working. Flash a new rom and it will no longer work. What do you think is the problem?
This seems to be a weird issue that I'm having, and I hope I'm not missing a step...
Anytime I install a custom rom past 4.1.2; I get no phone audio. I can load up web pages fine, SMS/MMS works to my knowledge, but there is no phone audio. I'll call my house phone, and it will ring the house phone, but I cannot hear myself through the other line. I've tried flashing radios/modems, different combination of ROMs and kernels, and the only way I'm able to keep an active phone, that is able to make phone calls, is to stick with a stock ROM.
My first thought is maybe it thinks it's an unlocked phone? And that's causing it to act up, but I've never had an issue like this before. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't believe the kernal is problem
What is your specific device model?
What have you tried to flash exactly?
Who is your carrier?
Are you flashing clean with all wipes?
Are you letting rom settle?

Apologize for the delay - been busy at work. I guess I could've been clearer.
I am using the SGH-i717 on AT&T. By stock, I meant a Touchwiz-based rom (i.e., Padawan JB). I have no problems with making or receiving phone calls. Whenever I flash a ASOP-based rom, (i.e., LiquidSmooth, BeanStalk, etc.) I have intermittent phone issues. The phone issues I'm having is not having audio when making or receiving phone calls. I know that it is actually placing the call, but I cannot hear the person on the other end, nor can they hear me. Now if I go into network operators, and select an operator that I know isn't going to work (i.e, Verizon, or T-Mobile), and then use "Choose Automatically", sometimes that works for a little bit. However, that has been working less and less now.
My process of flashing includes flashing the rom of choice after a full wipe and reset (right now, it's LiquidSmooth 4.4), wiping the cache and dalvik a couple of times, installing Polluti0n's rom patch, wiping cache and dalvik a couple of times, then installing PA Stock 4.4 Gapp, and finishing the whole process by wiping cache and dalvik a few times more. This is all done through gimmeitorilltell's TWRP Recovery 2.8.0.0
As stated before; I have no issues with Touchwiz-Based roms. I can make and receive phone calls with no problems. Also, before I rooted the phone, i updated it through Kies; so I assume that would update it to the latest radio available. That would be my first suspect, but I'm having difficulty finding a flashable radio for the device.
There also might be a step I'm missing, since all my experience previously with rooting and flashing came on CDMA devices, so there was no issues with radios.

first off i would flash the rom like so.
1. Factory Data reset
2. Wipe Cache/Dalvik
3. Format System/Data
4. Install rom from Sdcard
5. Wipe Cache/Dalvik
6.Reboot device
7.boot back into recovery
8.Wipe Cache/Dalvik
9. Flash gapps
10.Wipe Cache/Dalvik
Check to see if all is well once the rom is flashed and only the rom. Seems like over kill but can help narrowing down the issue, but i do agree with you as kies being the culprit I never did use it let alone trust it to update the device. Odin would be a better choice and no need to update the device for the latest radio as we have flashable zips. Blazes ics modem is what I'm currently using and has been great, one last thing I'd recommend is to go here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and grab the JB update and flash it via odin if all else fails.
I experiencing a similar symptom. Intermittently, not one can her me no I can hear anyone. I'm currently on Slimkat 4.4.4 and I have to reboot in order to make the call. Never had this problem when on stock JB 4.1.2.
Can some one point me to how to downgrade to Stock 4.1.2. Thinking about going back, I need a reliable phone.

Would like some help. I have flashed CM 11 and can't make calls. It says mobile network not available. Tried flashing AOKP rom as well and same thing. Mobile data works fine, although i have gotten a popup twice that says 'Google Play Services not supported by your device, please contact your manufacturer' (no noticible issues from this, google stuff i've tried so far works). I have included a screenshot so you can see my baseband and rom version, etc.
Now, i had a great deal of trouble getting a rom flashed to start with, CWM put me into a bootloop and TWRP wouldn't flash anything because it said it couldn't mount /storage when i tried. Used Philz advanced CWM (love it btw, will be using it from now on). Still wouldnt flash the hltespr specific CM11 version so had to use the unified hlte version (it gave me the status 7 asserts issue, but editing the asserts out just gave me a bad file error when flashing). I wiped data/cache/dalvik between each flashing. I don't know if any of that would have bearing on this problem, just including any details i can. Any advice?

Have you upgraded your bootloader to NH7? I know most of the newly-updated CM-based ROMs require you to be on NH7 before flashing. That's most-likely why you weren't able to flash the htlespr ROMs. The unified ROMs no longer include the correct APNs for Sprint, so that's why you don't get service on it. I don't know why mobile data works on it.

No, didnt realize that i needed to do that. I'll do some research on it because i don't have any idea how to update the bootloader. If you have a link to a good tutorial that would be wonderful! Thanks!
Ok so i tried that, found this tutorial, followed it, no luck. Tried full wipe/reset after that to see if it would let me install the hltespr versions, still no dice. Same situation, mobile data works, calls don't. Will have to wait till daylight to try texting so i don't wake anyone up but i suspect that texting won't work either. Has anyone experienced this and fixed it? Lol i really didn't drop $100 on a phone to be saddled with all the Samsung and Sprint baloney that it comes with, don't wanna unroot....
Bump
Anyone have ideas on this? Have continued to try fooling around with the udater-script file to resolve the status 7 problem so I can install the hltespr variant, still no dice. Please someone help!

Sorry, I typically don't have access to XDA forums on the weekend, so couldn't answer your question till now.
You flashed only the baseband/modem, not the Bootloader. If you want to update the Bootloader, you need to use ODIN to flash the Complete OTA NH7 Update.
In order to update the Bootloader, you need to make sure that you use the PC ODIN (not the mobile one) and that you completely power off the phone before you enter download mode (don't access download mode by using the extended power menu when shutting down the phone). I don't think you need to do the battery pull that Freeza had in his instructions (I didn't do it when I ODIN-flashed the NH7 OTA update), but it wouldn't hurt to do it.
Thanks for that, I will try it as soon as I get home tonight! The next thing I had decided to try was to unroot, to back to stock, then try flashing that before I start with the custom recovery and ROM. Do you think I should do that first before doing the whole thing or could that work just flashing that with my phone as-is?

Well, I always recommend a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) when flashing ROMs. I haven't wiped my internal storage or external storage since I got the phone, so that's not really necessary.
I don't think that unrooting your current ROM is necessary. Flashing the ODIN OTA update will automatically remove root access, so that's not an issue. Here's the steps I took when I updated to NH7 and installed my current ROM (see my sig):
Make a Nandroid backup.
I always do this just so I have a "record" of what I left behind. It also allows me to have all of my app data that I can restore via Titanium Backup (you have to buy the Pro version in order to restore specific apps from a Nandroid backup). I always store a copy on my ext. storage and on dropbox.
Do a full wipe
As I mentioned above, I always wipe data, system, and the caches when flashing ROMs. While I have to take some time to get the new ROM exactly as I like it, it minimizes any potential FCs and errors that some people get when dirty flashing.
Install NH7 all-in-one via ODIN
I installed the NH7 via ODIN. Please note that this is the fully stock, unrooted ROM and will also install the stock recovery.
Let the phone boot and connect to Sprint. Update Profile and PRL.
I do this periodically whenever I go back to stock (from AOSP). I rarely have connection issues, but updating the PRL an profile can help with those.
Install a custom recovery using ODIN.
My recovery of choice is TWRP, but others have found just as much success with CWM and Philz. Just make sure that you're installing the correct version of the recovery (4.4.X version, not the 4.2.X version). I always reboot to the main system after installing a recovery, but that's up to you. In the rest of this post, I'll say "TWRP," but I really mean "custom recovery."
[OPTIONAL] Make a Nandroid backup of the stock ROM
I always do this, but I recognize that it's not necessary, especially since we can just ODIN back to this image at any time. I just like having the option of having a stock backup on the device (in case catastrophe strikes while I'm away from a computer).
Use TWRP to flash your AOSP ROM of choice.
If you haven't installed any apps or messed around with the settings, you shouldn't have to wipe before flashing, but (in case you haven't noticed by now), I tend to err on the side of caution, specifically: wiping everything (data, system, and the caches) before I flash anything.
Set up the ROM how you like it and [OPTIONAL] make one last Nandroid Backup
Whenever I set up a new ROM to the exact way I like it (statusbar settings, accounts set up, apps installed and configured, etc), I make a nandroid backup of my device. This allows me to go back to that "fresh" image whenever something happens to the device and I don't have to muddle around fixing those minor tweaks. Again, I tend to err on the side of wiping the phone too often and taking too many backups, but I've rarely had issues with my phone and ROMs because of it (to the point where I can spend most of my XDA time helping others with their phones), so it might be prudent to follow the advice.
Anyways, that's how I upgraded to NH7 and installed a custom ROM. Others may take a less conservative approach and you're welcome to adjust any of the optional steps.
Hope this helps!

OK, did all that successfully, when it went back to stock stiil had the same issue. Mobile data functions, mobile network for calls/SMS doesn't. Did the whole update prl/profile and even tried reactivating from settings, still nothing. Was able to install custom recovery (Philz) and the hltespr CM11 variant instead of the unified generic version. Still has the same problem, mobile network not available. Everything else works perfectly. I did verify in settings that it still wound up as the NH7 after everything I did. Note I did a full reset before each thing that got flashed in this process, and one more for good measure after. Let it boot to the system between steps too.
Lol I've been rooting and switching between ROMs for years and have never encountered anything like this. I'm stumped....

Same Issue!!!
I have the exact same issue and have been trying to resolve it for the last 2 days... Did you find a solution?
I have the same problem on a Samsung Mega. LTE and 3G data work but phone won't dial if LTE is active. It WILL voice dial if only 3G is active. Sprint. CM11.
I had this problem after flashing ROMs as well, but went into Settings>Connections>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode and selected LTE/CDMA....no network had been selected. That fixed me right up. Weird part is, I could still avcess the web without WiFi....but couldn't make calls or ise my bluetooth headset until I had performed the above steps. Hope that helps.
