I recently received a Kuno Tablet. It has the same physical characteristics as the 10.1 except for the lack of a hdmi out. Its running android 2.3.1 with a 1.2ghz processor. I have been trying to find some way to root this tablet for a few days now and have had no luck whatsoever. As far as I know no one else has even attempted to root one of these. Help of any kind would be appreciated and I will do my best to answer any questions. I am considering trying petes root tools or gingerbreak but i have my doubts that this will work. I have tried to put the device into some sort of recovery mode but have had no luck so far with any of the button combinations I tried.
Hi xsurferx,
the Kuno really looks like the Archos 101... the chinese engineers are incredible.
Under the hood there's different hardware working.
The manufacturers website mentions a [email protected]
http://mykuno.com/kuno-specs.html
Due to this fact there's nothing in common with the way Archos created the firmware on the A101 and the way you could root this device.
You could try to find out how the firmware looks like on your Kuno... but i guess this is not the right place to discuss these things.
Anyway, good luck!

Progress
Any progress on trying to root the Kuno tablet? Superoneclick says that it roots it successfully but Superuser does not get installed. Is there at least a way to flash Gapps onto it? I can't even set up a gmail account unless I use the IMAP settings
super one clicks havent worked for me yet either however, i do work for the high school that i attend on their tablets and anything else they need done, through contact with the company that created the tablets ive learned that the tablet does not have a recovery mode and that the tablets actually have to be imaged like a computer would. So once i get my hands on an image i should be able to modify it to allow root access. If that fails im going to try rooting it through adb and installing superuser that way as well
what shcool has the funds to buy tablets like that?
So you just help them>?
lots of them
Many schools are going to one to one devices to try and help students learn and while they are expensive most of it is payed for by grants and other funds. I do anything they need from pc to mac and android. The tablets will be given out to freshman this coming semester and they want to see just how locked down these are and im assuming that rooting them will be the first step to unlocking them from the cirruculumloft software they are using. They want to see how to unlock them so they can prevent it in the future. Which is where i come in.
Status...
The kuno tablet has a recovery system that can only be accessed by flashing a new firmware to it, however, it is not possible to get this firmware without getting it from the company that made the tablet. So...in order to root the tablet you have to create a custom firmware from scratch for the tablet because the firmware on the tablet was designed in such a way that the android market can not run on it. The company removed the directories and other items the market needs to run. You can not connect the tablet through adb, nor can you install from SD or even access the SD card from inside the firmware the tablets are currently running. In order to root this tablet we would need to create a custom firmware and then flash it onto the tablet. Anyone interested in trying? Also, super one clicks will brick the device, I'm surprised yours still worked after that.
new discoveries
The market will run on the tablet, i was lied to on that one. The tablet connects through adb very easily and most commands work in adb. unfortunately you can not reboot into recovery or the boot loader through adb
unrevoked won't find my tablet. what do i do now?
this
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=unrevoked+won't+find+my+kuno+tablet,+What+now?
I work for a company that will be selling these Kuno tablets to schools. A CurriculumLoft Employee told me these tablets are not approved by Google so that makes them not able to use the android market. I have found that these can use the Amazon App market.
Figured it out!!!
After working on this for the better part of 6 months i have finally achieved root and flashed a custom rom with CWM recovery installed. I found that the Kuno tablet is essentially the same as the Arnova 10 G2 tablet with the exception of hard drive size. Here is the link to the site and instructions i used to flash the rom. If any one has any questions let me know.

xsurferx is no longer working on this project. He doesn't have a kuno 3 and recommends you don't try the above method, as it is not for a kuno 3.
I'm happy to say I will be an owner of a Kindle Fire HDx 7in.- lte/4g- 32 gb tablet. A Thor? Unless that is just the wireless one. I was contemplating an ipad for weeks, but what I wanted was easily $550- So when I saw the specs on this tablet at half the price, I pushed the button! Picked it up at Amazon's $100 off sale tuesday. $285 with tax. Minus $78 in amex points- grand total of $200 and change
My past modding was on the old white PDN e-reader that was turned into a touch tablet. lol. That had cupcake on it or was it donut??:silly: That's where I learned the basics of adb (I'm pretty bad at it but can follow directions and get the job done, at least 7-8 years ago. I'm pretty rusty at adb now. The toolkits that you guys put together spoiled me- but I did at one time do it the old fashioned way. I hope never again!!! I went cross eyed. Oh, forgot the huawei hs7 too- That took some doing too. That was after the PDN.
I graduated to the TF 101- rooted and rom'd that till it was replaced by the Nexus 7 original-I will never buy a new-never before released- product again after that one, Still have it, passed it to my daughter and she loves it. 3 months after I was one of the first owners, they dropped the price, doubled the storage space to 32 gb, and gave compensation to everyone in the world but us here in the USA. My relationship with Asus products is over. Somewhere along the way I got a nook wifi and hacked that too.
I moved next to samsung, modded the galaxy nexus, the orig. Note, a Note 8 wifi, have a Mega att version ( locked bootloader, and now unrootable on kitkat 4.4 2 so far. TR v. 1-2-3 does not work for it) Love the Note 8, but the screen is a bit fuzzy- so it was the ipad or the kindle hdx. The bargain won. With similar specs, I 'm giving it a try.
Along my history- Never had any trouble or lossed a phone or tablet due to bad flashing or modding. I read 3-4 times or more, and I follow directions pretty well to the letter.
Here is my question. Sorry if I bored you. ( Looked for an intro thread, but didn't find one.) When I get this tablet on Friday, I don't want it to auto update. I don't want to change the build prop. So after I make my adjustments, I want to make sure it doesn't update on me. Does it update over internet data connection, or just wifi?
Here is what I want to do. I Will not connect to wifi. Will check the build number I am on. If I have to, I will manually update to the best safest build by putting it in the root of the sd card, and going to update tool- not connected to the internet, and install. I have been reading all the threads here. What is the safest build if I want to possibly unlock the bootloader when it is released?? and of course root, and install google playstore?
Using the toolkit( v.0.94) I will:
1. Install driver.
2. Use TR v1 and root. Probably with the toolkit. @Faznx92- great job pulling it all together in one place. Thank you. Will by using Toolkit v.0.94.
3.. Install supersu.
4. I don't want to mess with safestrap for now, so I will pass on that. Is that OK to do??
5. Block OTA updates with #4- Does this still work on the latest, safest build?
6. Install the exposed framework, and modules, and check appropriate boxes, Reboot in between installs.
7. Install the 4 google apks in the instructions- manager, services, store, framework- and reboot.
8. Check if OTA updates are indeed blocked looking for the OTA update failed!! :
9. turn on wifi and get tmobile free data started.
Is there any way to BU original firmware before installing HDxposed stuff and google apps? Without safestrap? ( I never used that before and it intimidates me a little I also understand it is a little iffy to remove it safely. Can you just re-install a manual update to recover if things go south? After reversing all the apks, modules, root, etc. after a factory reset?
To undo the install of the play store, you just uninstall all of the above and unroot via supersu? And reverse the OTA blocking?
Does this sound like a good plan? It's what I picked up after reading for the last 24 hrs.- not straight of course!!:silly: Did I miss anything important?? Do I have anything backwards?? Would love some feedback. My first preference would be to leave it alone for a few weeks, but my priority is to avoid the updates, but be able to use and set up my tablet the way I want.
If the bootloader is ever cracked and released- Yes I have read the deed is done, but in testing- I would like to install a stable custom recovery, make good backups, and be able to reinstall if things go south any stable rom I have tucked away.
Thank you for your time if you read this whole post!!

Most of your questions have been answered before but I will try my best to re-answer them. I will try to clear up any misguided understanding you may have.
-Does it update over internet data connection, or just wifi?
+It updates over a internet connection.
-What is the safest build if I want to possibly unlock the bootloader when it is released??
+We don't know yet. Stay on the version you're on for now.
-4. I don't want to mess with safestrap for now, so I will pass on that. Is that OK to do??
+If you don't know much about what it does it's best for you not to worry. Yes, it's fine to leave safestrap alone.
-5. Block OTA updates with #4- Does this still work on the latest, safest build?]
+Yes, it works. The only time it may change up is if Amazon pushes a update with different package names or functions.
-Is there any way to BU (Back-up?) original firmware before installing HDxposed stuff and google apps without safestrap?
+No. I'm not aware of any other way to backup the stock rom.
-Can you just re-install a manual update to recover if things go southafter reversing all the apks, modules, root, etc. after a factory reset?
+You can't re-install a update. You can factory reset it.
-To undo the install of the play store, you just uninstall all of the above and unroot via supersu? And reverse the OTA blocking?
+There is no need to uninstall play store before a factory reset because the reset wipes it out. You should un-root via SuperSU and remove my ota block. (I reset while root but was unsure how safe it was. It did work out in the end without issue.)
Keep the wifi off once you undo the ota block and then factory reset so you don't update. Once the reset is done, re-install the blocker. I'm not sure if you need to remove safestrap before a factory reset.
To make clear:
If you install a ota blocker it's good to check that it works by being connected to the net and then going to Settings->Device->System Updates->Check now. If it says Last update failed it is working else it is not.
The current roms for the hdx require Hashcode's safestrap. But to get the rom's working you need a backup of the stock rom or you could use the backup he provided. Once a slot is made you would install the rom zip to the slot.
I believe safestrap works be emulating a new system/data/cache partition in a file as a full rom to the bootloader. I recommend blocking ota before you make a backup or installing a basic stock rom. If you create and install the stock rom to a rom slot without blocking ota, the amazon system files are still in place to call for a update and hand it off to the system and bootloader.
Safestrap is safe as long as you do not touch the stock rom but only to make a backup of it.
If you don't feel comfortable using safestrap then don't.
Quick word of advise, you should include the version of your device when asking questions for that version. I'm guessing your on 13.3.2.4, the current latest.
Also I highly recommend staying on your current version and not moving forward.
Last thing, give this a read.
I hope I answered your questions as clear as possible.
Anybody else please clear up anything I missed.
Also good luck with your device and play safe.
Thank you so much Faznx92 for reinforcing all that I read ( lots in a short time period). I didn't want to mix up the info I read from the beginning of the year to where this tab is now. You did clear up anything I was unsure about. Thank you! And safestrap- I am not comfortable with it at all- there is no safestrap for my Mega, all my other tech toys have unlocked bootloaders. So I have absolutely no experience with this custom recovery. I am used to CWM and TWRP. Totally comfortable with them, although I have to admit kitkat twisted my arm to try TWRP since that was the only way to flash those roms on a lot of tablets and phones. Now I am partial to that. So I won't say no to safestrap, just now when an unlock is so close. If a safestrap was released for my Mega, I would definitely give it a try.
Oh, I know to report what build I am on when asking questions- that's just polite and informative, right?? But I am not getting this tab till tomorrow, at least that's what tracking says. So I don't know yet. When I check the build I will post back and let you know what they are shipping now with. Hopefully it is still rootable and eligible for unlocking the bootloader when that is released. That is very exciting!
I give you credit for reading my epic long post, and thank you for taking the time to address my concerns. I appreciate it! I'll check back in tomorrow afternoon. Mail comes late where I am.
Your link was the First thing I read on this forum!!!! Which is why I am sticking with what I am comfortable with. Also, in my case I only learn by doing. But I have always realized that hacking leads to problems sometimes. My motto is stay calm, and reach out for help. Panic doesn't solve anything. And if you are hacking your only phone that you rely on, be prepared to go buy a cheap prepaid phone to bail you out till you straighten out your expensive semi brick! lol. I've gone from holding my breath when hitting go, to just being curious on how to do stuff and finding out how things work. I guess I'm living life backwards!! I can afford it at this point in my life.
Just received my kindle HDx 7 from Amazon.
So, I placed this order 1 am Wed. morning- the sale must have been on PST. Took free shipping- non prime. Received on Friday around noon. Way ahead of the promised date.
The build received was 13.3.2.1. Sim chip was installed and connected to the internet, so I took it out as a precaution even though it is not yet asso. with an account. Skipped wifi set up till I get OTA updates halted. Now it's time to play!
I Really like the size of this tablet.
@Faznx92, now that I know I am on build 13.3.2.1 do you recommend I update manually to 13.3.2.4 or can I stay on this one?
Thanks for your advice and help. Rooted, OTA blocked and confirmed, superuser installed, binary updated. I will hold off on google stuff for now and see how this OS works.

13.3.2.1 is fine.
Stay on your version!

Thank you! I will hold where I am then. I guess since I bought it from amazon- an account I already had there- when I connected to wifi it sort of registered itself and associated it with my amazon account by Magic!!:silly:
I do have to say just using the native kindle OS, I am not a fan. I will be installing the HDxposed modules and google stuff. :fingers-crossed:

Thanks jimyv Everything went as planned, couple hiccups that I solved by all the info posted here in this forum
The only thing I seem to have a problem with is sideloading apps now. It worked prior to downloading the google platform, but I can't seem to install from my sd card, app installers, or dropbox. I went back and checked that unknown sources is checked, and adb is turned on.
I had this same problem on my Note 8 on totally stock with just root applied and philz touch recovery. I fixed it by installing a stock hacked kitkat rom and that solved the problem.
Anyone have any ideas? Not too much of a problem since the play store/ market is up and running. I wanted to install samsung milk music that did install on my note 8 (not approved for that tablet). When sideloading was working for the hdx 7 I could load that apk, but it refused to install.
Now nothing will happen when I try to install any apk from dropbox or app installer. The buttons don't respond. If that's my only problem I can live with that!!
too much

If you are trying to install into system it may be too crowded
Personally I use titanium back up and it shows the size of the ROM I only have like 34 MB left of room after installing gapps. And if you are using safestrap by chance you need to remake your slot delete the slot first then go to remake it it will show available space. I increase that cache by 200 MB then use the rest of my available space up in the data partition then create slot .

No safestrap. I have a 32 GB. Is the internal partition for installing apps tiny on this tablet? I got the 32 gb so I wouldn't have this problem. Stock other than being rooted and having the HDxposed modules with google market installed. That might be taking up the room.
I have 1.1 GB of apps, system apps are close to 397 mb. I have 21 GB free.
************************************************************************
Must have been a space problem. I deleted AngryBirdsSpace and was able to install Adobe flash and Cerberus. Milk music still will not install, so don't think that is the issue with that one. It did install last week on my Note8 and my Mega so maybe because it's a samsung app??
Will Titanium BU work for moving apps to the sd card on this device? And free up space that way?
I can't seem to find the move to sd card on a long press with tit.BU, so I guess not.
Not sure this is the right place to post this but here goes. I just bought a Polaroid P10 tablet today. I wanted to root it, but can't find any information available about this product except unboxing videos. Running Kitkat 4.4.2 Kernel 3.3
I found a root using towelroot, but when I click on the icon, it just opens up a page with code and doesn't do anything. I'm a total noob and don't know much about rooting, but people tell me it's the only way I can add my own content. Any help is appreciated. Please and Thanks
Not currently supporting the Polaroid P10 Device, unfortunately.

That's a shame. It's a nice tablet. Hopeful that someone will be able to get this thing rooted. Just so I'm clear about "rooting" all this really does is allow installation of apps and music and stuff that was not downloaded at the app store, right? I mean, I'm sure it does more than that if you're a hacker and know what you're doing, but for me, this is the only perk to rooting. I guess I can wait. I only paid 75 bucks for mine. It was 99 originally but 20 percent off and the cashier also gave me another discount cause she was cool. I will keep checking back here in case someone has some good news! I forgot to add that I cannot get my laptop to download the driver for the tablet when I try to connect it.
Er... I'm not sure if the tablet is different but on any other android device I've ever used you can do all of that without root. Feel free to look up "How to enable from unknown sources android" . All it takes is checking one little box in settings. for apps I personally prefer the app from aptoide.

OK, see I was mistaken about what rooting meant. The first tablet I ever had, I HAD to root to get access to the internal storage. I will try again with this one to even find the internal storage. BUT, I just got this tablet yesterday and already it's resetting itself when I turn it off. I will try to start it and it gets stuck on the loading screen for a while, then It will load and I have to re enter all the setup info. Pain in my a**. I'm taking it back to exchange for a new one in a couple days.

Well I have the Polaroid q10bt that I bought @ Menard's last week for $99 cpu z says it is a p10/q10/ptab1040/ptab1041 I think this is the same as big lots 4gig but mine is 8gig. It is a really nice tablet 4.4 kk quad core processor. But yes root would be really nice. I've tried using kingo root with pdanet driver, (no go) also tried iroot apk app & there PC program which are Chinese to root those failed. Also tried framaroot & even other Chinese root programs I found on YouTube those failed as well. So next I seen that CPU z said my q10 has a all winner a31 processor so I Google root all winner a31, found 2 different zip file apps that u run from update app using stock recovery but yet again those failed. CPU z says tablet is rooted but super su won't update the binary? Well that's all info I have. Hopefully we can work together & hack this bad beast lol! Thanks in advance ppl & have a blessed day! Ron.
I'm gonna try king root on this. It's another Chinese root method & they have apk app & PC version
Dont try Vroot or Kingo theyre malware
Here is working root for the Polaroid Q10/P10/etc. and possibly other 4.4 a31 tablets
Instructions
Make sure you have ADB installed and working for the tablet, it will work with standard ADB drivers, just look it up im too tired to tell you how to make ADB work
1. Make sure USB debug and Dev mode are on
2. Go to settings, backup & restore, then boot into recovery
3. In recovery select ADB sideload and then in cmd prompt type "adb sideload (path to .zip)" and let it update
4. Reboot and enjoy root
This was about 5-6hrs of experimenting, credit goes to those who made SU, Chainfire for SuperSu, etc.

yea NP
took me a bit to figure out what exactly the issue was
The other a31 root zips arent for 4.4 and dont install all the needed files and permissions for it to work properly in 4.4. I was working on it and remembered chainfire saying something about it a while ago so i found a script designed to install from stock recovery and modified it to work for our device. I might work on a recovery but cant make any promises.
also, once you have root be sure to lower your screen DPI to 120, it makes the UI a bit smaller and in general things tend to look a bit nicer at that DPI on a 1024x600 screen (that should be the screens native DPI)

So I shared your root method with a p10 thread over at www.freaktab.com but made sure to give u all credit for figuring it out. Since I tried all the other root methods but failed, SuperSU installed it self as a system app & wont uninstall & CPU z says tablet has root but SuperSU wouldn't update binary. So question can i still use your root method or would I need to do a factory reset either thru tablet settings or stock recovery. Thanks in advance & have a blessed day! Ron.

Hey so I actually just used the update app built Into system to boot into recovery & then I just flashed zip file from stock recovery, then cleared cache & rebooted. Then I updated su binary & was good to go. Do u think doing this way was OK being as I now have root or should I have done adb method & side loaded it or should I still attempt to do it that way. Also what do u think about over clocking stock CPU using no thrills CPU or do I need a custom kernel? Also do u think a custom recovery would work on this? Well thanks in advance for all your help & have a great day!!! Ron.

no if it worked that way is fine too :] w.e works for you to install i just listed the way i did it. as for overclocking dont set the CPU higher than 1.3ghz or itll lock up as we dont have the ability to adjust the voltage atm. Im working on tearing it down and seeing about updating the screen and getting an SD card to work on custom imgs.
I can tell you its using DDR3L 1333 cas latency 9 and is an Allwinner A31s so far, looking into the other chips to figure if its close enough the the A31 dev board to use the kernel source. Display idk yet, cant get the battery off safely as its glued down pretty tight but i think its the same as a tablet called the Q102. These might be just rebranded versions of those. If we can find a better display that works with the Q102 and a speaker that is the right size we could mod it for better sound and display. Im searching Aliexpress and alibaba for a display thats possible to use. I anyone can find another 10" tablet with a similar size and shape using an a31 with a better screen we might be able to do a transplant.
edit: added board pic, nand is toshiba tc58teg6ddkta00 and bt/wifi is Realtek RTL8723BS, the RT is used on some Rockchip boards so should be able to get drivers for it. Once i get an SDcard ill work on recovery and maybe a custom SDcard img as the hummingboard a31 kernel looks like it might have the power management stuff in it? not sure if the hummingbird a31 using hynix nand and ram will be an issue.
Well, managed to get stuck in recovery bootloop and cant get out of recovery. Im contacting southern telecom for the firmware img but we'll see if i can get it, device works just cant get past recovery xP

OK well that sucks, I knew this was a all winner a31 cuz CPU z said it was. Also if u live in the states us, I'm sure u could always get another donor testing tablet either 4 gig p10 from big lots $99 or 8 gig q10bt from Menard's. Well best of luck, thanks in advance for everything u are doing & have a great day. Ron.

Yea perhaps, but im not gonna ask for hardware donations because i got ballzy and didnt wanna wait for an SDCARD lol and i know we knew it was A31 just wanted to confirm because sometimes they lie and wanted to confirm if it was a31 or a31s
If they dont give me the img i will have to try either making a bootable SDCARD so i can write to nand or flash another tablets firmware and hope it works. I might be able to fix it if someone dumps their nand/partitions and then i could try and make a bootable SDCARD and write the stock recovery back in terminal. You can pull the partition imgs through ADB on a running system., probably shouldve done that before i tried to mod recovery lol wouldnt be so bad if i could get usb access in recovery but cant.
EDIT: Looks like im going to have to do the dishonest thing and exchange it at the store saying its broke as they told me there is no firmware available.

Hey no shame bud, lol menards takes anything back. Hey so I tried to change DPI resolution to 120 as u suggested. with 2 apps but they wouldn't work? Did I do something wrong? Also I purchased a really nice wired keyboard case for this tablet at menards it is hip street brand on clearance for $9.99

I used romtoolbox try that
Also i suppose it works out as its 50$ off so ill get an SDcard and work on a bootable SDcard fr nand restores in case something similar happens. Also word of warning, phoenixsuit doesnt seem to recognze the tablet for some reason, drivers work and all but in FEL mode you cant flash with phoenix it just fails. Number one priority is finding a bootable nand restore method from sdcard. Make sure not to try any other a31 imgs as you maybe soft brick it and not be able to recover.
So far this tablet seems to be pretty modable as long as we find parts that will fit/work. All the peripheral devices unplug easily the only difficult thing is the batter which is glued tight. I may have found 1280x800 IPS screen that'll work with it and looking at finding a better speaker.
Hi,
My HDX 7" was bought last year and I immediately found a thread about SafeTrap recovery, so that I could flash a custom ROM to my HDX 7" I followed the instructions carefully and it successfully worked
But then my friend borrowed it, he didn't know about the SafeTrap and seemed to wipe all of my ROM slots. He gave it back to me when the device was still on SafeTrap. I plugged it to my laptop and found that ADB was still working, tried to push a ROM to it, but I couldn't, the storage showed 0MB so it couldn't store the ROM files.
I decided to turn it off, and when turned on, SafeTrap was gone, my HDX showed Kindle Fire logo forever.
I knew that it was hard bricked and left it until now, I thought there would be a way to restore my HDX in the future
Is there anyway to bring it back again?
Or it will be bricked forever?
Thanks!

Not to be rude but first thing's first if anybody here is going to help you you're going to have to know details and exactly what you had prior to your current state .ie answer any questions with as much detail as possible . And if it all possible find out what they did to your device . If you cannot provide any of this .I cannot provide a help . I don't know anybody that has a crystal ball I can borrow LOL
The question was had you installed xposed framework on your stock slot?
What your original firmware was?
Then you might want to add exactly what rhomb you attempted to flash?
What error did it show. Can you or can you not still get into safestrap?
First guess though I would venture to say you have a paperweight and less you can get them to warrantee it for you. Personally I would have uninstalled safe strap recovery and lock root access out before I loan my device to anybody period but that's just me
tldr;
So Optimal solution would be to get Gapps working on Stock 13.3.0.5, and from there I'll install and android launcher. But to do this, the Xposed problem will need to be fixed.
Has anyone else had a problem with Xposed where every menu leads to just a blank white screen?
Not-so-optimal would be to do all the upgrading, OTA blocking, flashing, and backing up to get it on like CM11 or something.
Hey all,
I just made my XDA account, I've been kinda lurking on the forums for a little while though.
I won a Kindle Fire HDX 7" (idk What gen or how to determine what gen it is. Its got 2gb RAM and 32gb Internal) that says its running 13.3.0.5 and so I decided to do a little research about custom roms and rooting and found this wonderful forum. I've had a bit of experience with custom roms, I loaded CM9 onto an LG Thrive (look that one up, its a bit of a pain to flash as well) And I'd love to see about flashing this brand new FHDX.
Now, I didn't purchase this tablet, so it is of no expense to me, however, I would rather not be reckless in my attempts to mess with it.
What I want:
Google Apps -- Play/Music/Gmail/Calendar/etc
Root
Android JB or KK OS or Android-like Launcher or Ubuntu Touch (idk about this one, it seems really cool, I've heard about it for a long time and never got the chance to play with it)
I'd love to stay away from bricks, but I'm not afraid of them enough to not flash it. I'm a computer engineer and kinda have some experience with android and flashing.
Now, as to my progress so far:
I've rooted it with towelroot and installed ES FileManager, SuperSU, and I've tried to install Xposed/HDXposed multiple times but it simply will not work correctly. Xposed gives me a white screen when I go into any of the menus and doesn't allow me to install after clicking "Framework". I've tried many different renditions of Gapps packages, but almost all of them result in a process failing or stopping.
Thanks and if you need more information or I've left something out, feel free to ask away!

UPDATE:
I turned wifi on for a little bit and my Kindle decided it wanted to update, so now its running 13.3.2.5 :/
I've put it in airplane mode, and I'm thinking about doing this to downgrade it.

I'm not sure what you're up to, but I'd suggest to downgrade to 3.1.0 using the procedure in the thread you linked to (be sure to scroll down for the procedure for 3.2.5/3.2.6 because you can NOT use the edited build number anymore!), then install TWRP, unlock the bootloader and flash a ROM of your choice.
You're up to that? Or what's on your mind?
Yea, sounds great! I'll post my progress as I get things going.
btw I love your name if its a play on Tom Clancy. Love those books and the games inspired by them!

Alright, basic approach is here. Lots of info to read, so any questions just ask, before you brick your HDX.
I'm now Rooted running on 13.3.1.0
I've disabled OTA updates as well. From here I'll pick the rom I want to d/l, get TWRP installed, unlock bootloader with python/.unlock file, and flash the rom.
(I'll edit this post as I finish things)
Thanks!

OK, don't forget to make a backup of Fire OS in TWRP (and move it to your PC) before you flash any custom ROM. Might be useful one day.
Alright!!
I'm backed up, unlocked, custom recovery'd, and flashed to the new Nexus KitKat 4.4.4!
Thanks so much for the help Cl4ncy both in this thread and all the others.
And thanks to the XDA community for hosting all these awesome tools!
Now to have some fun with my new psuedo-nexus 7" tablet >
