Before going into detail, I have to say that I am a noob when it comes to rooting and messing around with phones. That being said..
I've experimented with a couple of custom ROMS for my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900T1. For me to root my phone with more ease, I had to flash the T-Mobile official stock ROM. Now I am working off a ROM but an issue that I have been dealing with after my first custom ROM has stuck with me. That issue is that my 4G LTE has been replaced with international signals like H and H+. I can confirm that are speeds are equivalent to LTE speeds but it just doesn't show them.
Is there a fix to this issue so that I could see my 3G, 4G, and LTE again? Any help at all would be useful.

My sister is getting ready to get her very first smarphone. She looked at several and the one she wanted that fit her budget was the S II. I know it is LTE but is HSPA+. Since I recently switched from Sprint to and ATT LTE device I am not familar with HSPA at all. Are the data speeds decent? She probably won't root this either so I was wondering how it is out of the box for a new user. Also any known issues to be aware of?
Dont worry she's probably not using the phone to run a server or to stream HD content so she'll be more than fine with the speed provided. Those speeds exceed the needs of twitter, fb, yt, navigation or any other use your sister will be giving to her phone.
Cheers

I would add there are 2 different AT&T Galaxy S2 one being i777 and the other is i727 (Skyrocket LTE) I would recommend the sgh-1777 but other people will tell you different....when you said " I know it is LTE but is HSPA+" did you mean NOT LTE? With LTE will be i727....GL
EDIT: There are some issues with the ICS update in the kernel here is a link with some info you can read just make sure before she does any updates do some research...

So I just got the Deepshining ROM installed on my TMobile Radar 4G (USA)
Have a question about the flashed radio... is it only 3G? Before I flashed the radio and ROM I used to always get 4G (and sometimes 2G). Now, I am spending a big chunk of my time at "3G".
The phone doesn't seem to be slower, so I don't know if it is just branding, or what? Any experience on this?
Also, I did change the settings to make the radio, "North America".

Haven't experienced it. I have an H on my status bar right now and also on Deep Shining.
Did you mess with any other settings after installing?
It's just branding. T-Mobile changed both the 3G and H indicators to 4G. The custom ROM you installed probably has the standard 3G/H ones instead.
I changed another setting on the phone somewhere to display 3G+ as 4G. Now, I am occasionally seeing a "4G" status.
But, it really doesn't matter. Speeds seem good, and seems to be all branding anyway.
Awesome, awesome ROM!!
just to give some extra info Radar got an 3G antenna and Radar 4G got an 4G antenna and that thingy next to your connection bar doesnt show the actual antenna but just a string from the registry or somewhere in the rom i got an radar and a radar 4g rom and it show 4G but I still got 3G connection
So, I have me a Exhilarate that I have unlocked and now use with T-Mobile.
So far, the experience is okay, but I want to make it better.
Thanks to T-Mobile's spectrum refarming efforts, I now have some spotty HSPA+ coverage in most parts of Tampa. Regardless of Samsung's specs page, this device does not support AWS, at least out of the box, so calls drop while travelling unless I force GSM only.
So, given that this device is AT&T's version of the Galaxy S Blaze 4G, here is what I ask:
1. A dump of the radio.img from a Blaze 4G. The device hardware may yet support AWS, but forcing WCDMA 1700 in the ServiceMode menus does nothing at all. The probable loss of LTE support flashing that radio is meaningless for now. Just let me know how it can potentially go wrong beforehand, and what partition to flash/backup.
2. The Wi-Fi calling related files from the ICS. update. Worst case, I have to restore from a nandroid. Not a problem for me. I believe it is an apk and the framework-res.jar, but I could be forgetting a file or two.
By the way, MetroPCS's LTE network shows up in manual network searches as 311660. Forcing LTE B4 in field testing causes the Exhilarate to camp on MetroPCS without service. Screenshots to come of that. Edit: screenshots attached.
Thanks in advance.

Bump, is there a radio flash available for this phone?
Okay I flashed the UVLH5 Radio Blaze ICS and now am getting 4g speeds so it works and is simple to do. I am on stock ICS on the exhilarate rooted

all you need to do is download the file, save it to your micro sd, boot into cwm, and install it

Hi guys, I was thinking about leaving Sprint(Galaxy S2) and going on Tmobile prepaid, and was thinking about the Rezound as a possible phone to use. Would it be worth the switch to using this phone with the edge speeds, etc?(I do have wifi at home at least) Would I be able to run all the roms with service as if it were on Verizon? Wondering if it would be a headaches with keeping service while flashing roms and such. I flash roms fairly often.
Probably better off getting a straight GSM phone..
If you got the rezound and wanted to run on GSM, that can be arranged. But, I am pretty sure they don't even have 3g working on TMobile yet, so I hope you have WiFi.
Also, you would be very limited as far as GSM ROMs go so as mjones said, you should probably just get a GSM phone.
After almost a year of inputting various *# and #* codes, I finally got my i717 to work on T-Mobile LTE (southside of greater Chicagoland).
This is on stock ATT JB rom and modem. On a good day I will get over 20Mbps down and 8-10Mbps up. epc.tmobile apn worked best at first, but after about a day or so, fast.tmobile apn setting did about the same. Service mode is set to Automatic and the setting in Device Info *#*#4636#*#* was set to LTE/GSM/WCDMA.
I thought all was fine until I would leave an LTE area and go into a normally (for me) 4g area
What is happening now is that I lose my LTE and go straight into EDGE. It is almost like my regular 4g is gone in areas where it used to be pretty good
Before LTE working, I was getting pretty good 4g (between 4-9Mbps down and about 1 up). This was using the same stock ATT JB rom, but with T-Mobile Blaze modem. Very seldom, like almost never, would I see EDGE. To get this I would have to go into service mode *#2263# and select WCDMA as my band preference.
If I try to use the Blaze modem, I cannot get the phone to stay in the LTE/GSM/WCDMA setting.
In a nutshell, why am I going to EDGE instead of 4g when I leave LTE?
If it matters, I am on the 5G / 100 minute $30 prepaid plan
TIA
Pretty common problem with the JB modem. You pull LTE or you pull E. For me, the best modem is UCMB4. It's an ICS modem, though, so I'm not sure how it'll work on jellybean. But you may give it a try. I pull the best speeds -- by far -- with it, and I pull consistent LTE. With the different ported modems I would have calls not go through sometimes -- weird -- and just "okay" speeds. With the ucmb4 I get solid all-around service.
I've gone from TMobile LTE to regular 4g on my mostly stock Note in Chicago. No AWS mod, no code messin, no nothin.
ATT modems will only work with tmobile refarmed 1900mhz areas. Your blaze modem is set to 1700mhz frequency band instead of 1900mhz. Thats why it works better.
Tmobile has a lot of dead areas on regular 4g with the LTE capable modem. But that's the tradeoff. Lte and refarmed 1900mhz band or just regular old 4g hspa.
no phone on Tmo 4g LTE in STL
Hey guys,
I've recently run into a problem with my unlocked i717 on TMO. It runs Android 4.1.2 (AT&T update flashed to the phone) but every since TMO rolled out their LTE in my area I get 4G LTE signals (1 or 2 bars mostly, but at times 3-4 bars) and I can send texts and data, but it cancels both incoming and outgoing phone calls.? What can I do to correct this? TMO's solution is to buy the N2 or wait til Nov for the N3. Any ideas?
Thanks...
Pete

Make sure your using the UCMD3 modem for JB. Then type *#2263# into dialer and try to set to automatic*.
Someone had this similiar problem the other day.

Thanks for all the comments. Glad to hear it is common problem and not just me going nuts.
I still like my i717, but seem to spend more and more time screwing around with it to get it to work right. Good excuse to get a Note 3 I guess
