Bootloader WILL be locked...eventually

http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/15/htc-one-att-bootloader/
Before you get too excited, though, HTC's affirmed to us that AT&T's One will not be supported by the HTCdev unlock service, which will effectively render its bootloader untouchable. As for the current discrepancy, one might speculate that the phone's identifier hasn't yet been blocked on the HTCdev site -- something that'd likely be resolved before the phone becomes officially available through retail channels this Friday.

Hmm, still odd that they wouldn't have blocked it right when they started pre-orders (what would be the point of allowing it?).
Now I don't know if I should unlock the bootloader as soon as I get it or not. I don't want those Sense apps to be removed during the unlocking process. I haven't checked, is there a way to get them back? (I think it's the calculator, sound recorder, notes, etc).

You can get your unlock token through HTCdev and you can save it. Once you have a valid token for your phone you will always be able to unlock. You lose the apps after you use the token. Just save the token if you dont want to lose those apps. A custom rom should have the apps though.

Still find it strange that there isn't a definitive solution to this yet. No matter, I'll either save the token like Nugzo recommended or just go through with it and see if those apps restore properly.

How? It wants all the shell information for the identifier. If you don't have the phone, you don't have the identifier, right?
If I unlock the bootloader tomorrow, that means I lose the HTC Warranty, since they know the phone was unlocked. But does that also mean I lose the AT&T warranty? Is there a way they can tell if the phone is completely dead.

I've returned many phones, for legitimate reasons, that have had the bootloader unlocked and I've never had a problem.

No.. HTC just probly won't replace it.
But ATT will.. Just make sure you relock it before returning it.

Sorry if this has been answered before but can HTC reverse the bootloader unlock remotely or via a future update? Thanks.
Once you have an unlock code you can unlock. HTC probably could reverse it with a forced update but they would be completely stupid to do it. I've never heard of them relocking an unlocked device
Just got my device and got my unlock_code.bin while htcdev is still working

Why? sure it's no nexus setup but its stupid easy. fastboot get_identifier_token copy paste the output into the site. flash the bin in fastboot, Done.

If you have your phone already, I'd be ecstatic. Unfortunately for me, I don't know when my phone will come in.. and I'll probably not be able to unlock at all since it hasn't even shipped yet.

Rooting confusion

Hey all,
Just picked up a Verizon HTC One Max and would like to root it so I can use AdFree and Root Explorer. Maybe load Cyanogen sometime in the future but not a priority right now. I noticed very little separation of posts, Sprint, VZW, ATT, etc., and I would like to make sure I have the correct and simplest way for my Verizon device.
Firewater S-off
Also, where can I download the latest HTC One Max drivers?
Thanks in advance for your help.
As far as i know, Verizon does not allow unlocking of the MAX via HTCDev. Firewater requires unlocked/temp rooted device to S-Off. You should look at rumrunner - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525375
Drivers - first link on Google - https://www.google.com/search?q=htc+drivers+&oq=htc+drivers
From what I remember seeing, not unlockable via htcdev, which is needed for S-OFF.
From rumrunner site
Unlock your bootloader (devices that are blocked by htcdev only, e.g. Verizon HTC One)
Edit: Looks like it should work, according to site and other users, but via htcdev is a nogo

Not true. Rumrunner does both s-off and unlock in one shot on vzw. Did mine that way. To be honest, its even better this way as you aren't broadcasting to HTC that you are modifying the phones software.
To be perfectly clear again...rumrunner requires nothing other than a stock os phone on vzw. Have done two vzw maxx's this way.

@pradeepv had it right because he mentioned both rumrunner and firewater.
Vzw maxx only needs stock rom to s-off at this time. No need for HTC Dev unlock.

I quoted pradeep which is the second post and is entirely accurate. I am on verizon and worked with beaups to finalize rumrunner to get it working on the verizon model. That is still currently the best and easiest.

The way its phrased explains why the op is confused.
Op simply needs to run rumrunner.
Beaups has it spelled out like this on rumrunners page
Your device must be HTCDEV unlocked or rooted*unless using rumrunner with a device blocked by htcdev (e.g. m7wlv)
So no temp root or unlock required on op's part prior to running rumrunner.

Use rumrunner s-off unless your One Max is running Hboot 2.47... If it is, use firewater tool. Will s-off and unlock in one fell swoop.

Weaksauce HTC for Verizon

For those that dont know jcase and beaups have rooted the new Verizon HTC M8 and found that the vuln and exploit also works on Verizon HTC One 4.4.2. This means it likely will work on the Verizon HTC Max for 4.4.2. *I believe* beaups is working on rolling the root exploit into rumrunner to soff the M8 (and by luck the One on 4.4.2). So at a minimun us Verizon Max owners should be comfortable updating to 4.4.2 and more importantly new buyers of the Verizon Max (and hopefully other versions) will have an available soff and root.
See Verizon HTC One forum for more Weaksauce HTC info.
