Galaxy s3 gti9300 nandroid backup/restore dual boot arter97 kernel - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone tell me is it possible to restore a backup created of my full dual ROMs?
I am running arter97 kernels dual boot 2.2.zip but reading the info he has said not to try doing a backup or restore the 2nd ROM otherwise this will seriously damage the system but I have made a backup of the full system from the 1st ROM which includes 2 data ext4 files (1 for each ROM) if I restored this backup would it work? Or would my recovery not be able to restore this correctly? ?

[Q] How to backup and restore the kernel only?

I have an unlocked and rooted Samsung Galaxy S2. I installed MIUI and am now experimenting with different kernels.
Is there a way to backup and restore the kernel only, rather than doing a full nandroid backup and restore? I searched all over the web and all I could find was this advice to:
"just grab the boot.img and contents of /system/lib/modules from your rom zip and make your own update.zip."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1059412.html
But I found no comment confirming it actually does work. There is a kernel flasher app that's supposed to backup and restore kernels, but it only works on the Galaxy S (not the S2).
Thoughts?
Thanks!

[Q]backing up the rom with cwm

Hi
I want to install a costume Rom on my phone
but first I want to make a backup of my stock rom (just in case)
I found a backup option in the CWM app
so i need to know:
dose this option backs up only the Rom or will it back up the kernel also?
Are there better ways to backup the rom?
in general what does the "create a backup" option do? (in CWM in mean)
thanks in advance
best regards
backs up all but not the EFS and Modem

the backup option will backup every thing on you system and data partition but not the kernel and modem..
there is no better way than this..
correct me if I am wrong:
1-the backup options backs up my data (such as save data for games) too
2-if I want to restore to my stock firmware, this backup WON'T do it properly since it won't restore the kernel

It backups everything including kernel except modem and efs. So if you restore it back you will have your stock kernel there

As Bala said Kernel is backed up..so I may be wrong here..but I read somewhere that kernel is not backed up..so anyways..you will have the stock kernel if I am wrong..
the games data is stored on your internal sdcard..so it wont be backed up..and in between if require a factory reset it will be lost..
thanks guys
you helped me so much (and fast)
and one more thing i remembered right now:
the backup will be a CWM flashable zip file.right?

To restore you go to backup and restore and select restore(from internal or external sd card) depending on where the back up was created.

[Q] Restoring a nanodroid backup

After making a droid backup and later installing a custom kernel will i be able to get back to original sony stock thing ? by single press of restore of a backup ?
Nandroid backups do indeed contain a kernel

[Q] How to backup efs?

Hi
1. How can I backup the efs partition with TWRP v2.7.1.0 that is already installed on my xt1022?
If I boot to TWRP recovery, touch the backup icon, so I get only the possibility to backup:
[x]System
[x]Data
Cache
[x]Boot
But I don't get the choice for efs, like there is one I saw on pictures (hyperlinks are not allowed for new xda users) an older TWRP version then mine for an other smartphone.
2. How can I backup the efs partition with an dd linux command - in an root adb (root already activated)?
3. How can I then restore this efs partition in case of an efs disaster?
Thanks in advance!
Use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.partitions
It automatically highlights appropriate partitions. Restore functionality is also available.

Backup rom

I want to ask you about one thing. It is possible to backup current whole rom with installed apps and settings and make it zip file that it is possible to future restore by flashing rom like a custom rom in TWRP?
My phone: Lenovo k3 note (rooted)

yep you can do all of the above, it will backup even the files (photos, videos...) on your device storage and give you a flashable zip that you can restore after and you will get EVRYTHING back to your phone, it's called a NANDROID Backup ... you can do it with a custom recovery such as TWRP indeed
