I couldn't find it when I searched the other day.
Thanks. I know it is out there, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
I wasn't aware of a beta, I'd love to have it as well!

AFAIK, there isn't a netflix beta app for android. Netflix said the other day:
The same security issues that have led to piracy concerns on the Android platform have made it difficult for us to secure a common Digital Rights Management (DRM) system on these devices.

But then they do go on to say:
We live to get Netflix on new devices, so the current lack of an Android-generic approach to quickly get to all Android devices is frustrating. But I’m happy to announce we’ll launch select Android devices that will instantly stream from Netflix early next year. We will also continue to work with the Android community, handset manufacturers, carriers, and other service providers to develop a standard, platform-wide solution that allows content providers to deliver their services to all Android-based devices.

So if there is actually a beta app out there, it is news to me and I would love to have it as well
please post!
If there is such a thing, could someone please post it?
Well if they are planning on having netflix capable phones early next year that means they must be working on it which means there must be atleast an alpha out there. It may not be available outside netflix itself but it probably does exist which means someone outside the company will probably get their hands on it soon enough and try to make it available and usable for the masses. DRM? How much DRM is baked into my MacBook and PC that has been stopping me from ripping Netflix movies all these year? None! And they are still profitable and growing every day.
DRM is just a lame excuse for them to sign exclusive deals with manufactures and carriers.

Actually they do have drm. The end user doesn't see it because it downloads automatically when silverlight does. Anyone with linux will tell you, because that drm is what is making it impossible for them to stream netflix.

Luckily I don't stream on my laptop, just from my bluray player.
If someone can get that apk to simply allow for managing instant and mail queu that would be awesome

That apk doesnt actually include anything but resources like images, and layouts. The actual netflix app has to be part of the google tv system apps or something.
Hello!
I own an Xperia Play and I am a resident of a country where even the google play store is not available.
But since phones arrive here pre-installed with software from whereever they are built, so I had an android market by default which recently forced me to update it to Google Play which too is working just fine. So unless I uninstall this on purpose Google Inc. can't do anything to deprive me of Google play.
But the thing is that there was no Google Play Books or Movies in the previous Android market hence I can't do anything to un-deprive me of them.
My questions are
1. Can anybody explain to me why is Google Inc. keeping these apps away from the international market when they are officially launching their phones there? I mean it doesn't make any sense to me. The stupidity is (at least that's what I believe, correct me if I am wrong) that if I fly to London, locate a WiFi hotspot, download these stores, and fly back; there is nothing in the power of Google to do anything about it, so what is it; racism? Besides without an app store a smartphone is as dull as a Nokia. Sorry Nokia.
2. Where can I find a list enlisting the countries where these app stores are available? Hurry I need to book a flight.
3. How do I talk to Google about this matter. I mean we have a website for Google play or Android Market but it displays the apps not any information about the store itself. In fact there is not even a dedicated Android website. There isn't even a place to download the official APK in case you need it, not even for those living in Google's favorite countries. Which brings me to next question.
4. How were you guys informed of the availability of these stores. I understand that the new phones had them pre-installed. But what about those like me except living in U.S. for instance. Did you guys get a notification? Or did you wake up one morning and realized that Google Books had miraculously installed? How was the experience?
5. And most importantly, can someone of you guys, possibly an Xperia Play user (just to make sure I get the right APK if they are hardware dependent) post his/her Books and Movies APK here or anywhere else and inform me of the location. There are a lot of APKs available out there but I worry that they have been altered by programmers to suit there own needs.
Please do reply in detail and as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time.
I think it's to do with media licencing.
The same reason that different games are available at different prices in different countries via steam, or not available at all in some countries.
Here in Australia I only have access to apps, games and books via Google Play. No music or movies.
Ahahaha, racism
But seriously, it has to do with licensing. If a company wants to sell things, they're not going to play favorites by not selling in certain countries.
it has nothing to do with racism.
it's completely about licensing, and I think looking at it from a business point of view would prove why.
India, having such a big population, simply means more sale/ greater sales area for google, so they wouldn't be ignoring you by any means.
honestly it would be your government that has a problem with google and is stopping google on some level.
just my opinion though, I believe it would be fairly close.
Have you tried modaco's xperia forum?

Ah, trust the Aussies to come in here and tell it like a Sir. Good to see.
Licensing is exactly the issue. It's whether Google's services contravene your home Country's laws and regulations for media distribution.
As these services are built for the US, it's only natural they get them all. It most definitely has nothing to do with racism, believe me if Google were allowed to collect data on every human being on the planet - they would.
And as for the apk files you can usr market enabler and set it to usa to download the apps from the play store or you can google for them. These apps are not hardware dependant.

Hello!
Thanks for the reply.
I know it isn't racism, it was just a way to get people reading.
But if it is about licensing then I believe they don't take that issue seriously either.
I am from the Middle East (not India), and they do launch phones here officially, I mean it isn't that they are imported here by some third party, and yet initially these phones have Android Market or Google Play (now) available on them. It gets deleted only when your phones get an official service here from the official service centers.
So, should I be hopeless about getting Google Books or Movies here, anytime soon?
Here's what I think is the case. They (Google) probably think that they don't have many customers in this region or any region besides Europe or America or Australia. And I need to get a word to them. That's why I inquired about a contact place or some sort of Google's website. I mean it's amazing that Google rules the internet but hasn't got its own website.
If it had to be about licensing, then how come I am able to buy e-books, for instance, on websites like Kobo, Amazon etc. Same goes for music and movies.
All I have to do is Pay. Like i said before if I go to London, download the Google Books or Movies, and get back; i can easily enjoy it here. All I have to do is pay through credit card, and generally a credit card has no boundaries. I mean nobody rejects your credit card in Moscow because it was issued in Luxembourg, or do they?
And secondly, can somebody of you guys (of course living in UK or USA) upload your APK of Google Books and Google Movies somewhere on the internet and make me aware of it. I think you can locate it using Astro.
Thanks.

Google books and Google movies are built into the Google play store. If your government refuses to do what Google requires to allow them to use it then there is nothing g you can do. There are a few countries that like to control what is seen by its citizens. Take China for instance, they have complete control and Google market is not installed by default. If the play store is removed when you get am official update then that tells you it is a government thing and you need to talk to them about it.

According to Google play stores free apps are available to users in any country with just books movies and paid apps being restricted due to licensing agreements and in certain countries also due to the government.
You can of course work around some restrictions, if you look in the apps section here at xda there are modified or patched free apps to help you do so such as most recently a modified market app.

Same in Romania - only apps in Play (at the beginning only free apps were allowed but now we can buy without restriction).
But isn't racism, as others already pointed out. Is about copyright, licensing agreements or government censorship.
And this isn't restricted to Google Play. As an example - i couldn't buy RAGE from Steam (because wasn't available in Romania) but i bought a retail version at the store and i was able to use the key even on Steam. So, in other words, is about who and what can sell in a certain region. So, you can buy a book from London and read it in Middle East, as you say, because you own it. But you can't buy it in your country because of some stupid law in your country or because some producer/seller/editor have no interest in your country (again, not because of racism, but because they consider that the income won't justify the investment - in Romania we still can't buy games from PSN or play on PSN, even if Sony sell Playstation in Romania since Adam banged Eve).
Hollo dear developers,
I have a concern about accessing all Google Play Services from non authorized countries. I think it's a shame there are so many people in so many countries prevented from bying content on play store. Thought first of a petition, but not sure it can have effects. Had a look on xda, there is already a old thread on the subject but not working for most of the repliers, specially me.
Thought some developers would be interested in giving acces to a larger number of people. Looks like more justice to me.
I am mainly talking of book essentially, why not music and videos too... Giving ability to buy books, music, video worldwide... just to make sure I am understood...

I began attempting to publish on January 10, 2014.
The app was released in the Windows Phone Store/Marketplace on February 19, 2014!
The V2.1 edition added images for the apps and Verizon's new "Tones" app.
Windows Phone 8.1 Support was added June 24, 2014.

You can check the Verizon one pretty easy. They were posted almost everywhere while Spartan Assault was still exclusive.

If anyone has devices from these carriers, please let me know if your phone shipped with some carrier locked apps. I have Verizon and Sprint's list complete, but AT&T was something I tried quick to get working and have something in place, while I have nothing for T-Mobile. So if you have a T-Mobile device, then please post links to the store link for your apps!
EDIT: Nevermind, I went out and bought these devices to get the app-ids, also to hack, but its still annoying that they are hidden from the store...
UPDATE!!!!
I've updated the app to include all of AT&T's apps.
OEM ID's Confirmed so far.... for fiddler or another proxy tool.
VZW-US (Verizon Wireless)
ATT-US (AT&T)
TMO-US (T-Mobile USA)
null (some Sprint apps)
T-Mobile USA's apps have now been added!!! The only issue with it is that they are listed as unpublished, but that might be controlled based on the SIM... "My Account" should be install-able on any Windows Phone that has a T-Mobile SIM in it.
Also hoping to redo this entire app to directly launch the store instead of launching the web browser to launch the store (which requires logging into.) EDIT: DONE!
I fixed some problems with several URLs that nobody had noticed yet. I also cleaned it up a bit, so let me know if you notice anything broken!
EDIT: Apparently I also have some URLs pointing to the wrong app. It will be fixed soon!
EDIT 2: Everything is done except the images. I guess I'm close to publishing once I can think of a name for it and a half decent image for the app, tiles and the loading screen it will be finalized.
I have yet to determine if I want to add advertising to the store version or not, while removing the $.99 charge. It depends on if I ever get any feedback on this app....
Okay.... I submitted the app to the store, but since it was a pain in the @SS making this app, requiring me to purchase a Lumia 520, Lumia 521, and an HTC 8XT. I've made the app $.99. All of those who have installed this with the App Studio method can still do so, and they won't have to deal with paying for it. I'll make it free in the store once I have recouped some of my costs, or if no one ends up downloading it.
Moved to OP
I've updated the app to V2.1, because Verizon launched a new ringtones+ringback app, and I went ahead and added images to the app instead of looking at those terrible low-res bullet points.
Please rate my app! I've only had TWO DOWNLOADS from the store since I had launched it, and the way publishing works I won't see any money for a long while.
I've thought about reworking the logo to be of the four carriers, but nobody has said anything! I'm still waiting for at least a review. I'm going to make the app free, as I still haven't got any downloads and trying to recoup costs was a lost cause. Just means that I'll add advertisements eventually to the store edition.

I just snatched it up, amd by coincidence snatched fiddler earlier today to check out some stuff. All the links I've checked are good so far. I'll fire it up later and report back.
Thanks man!!
Hey everyone, just thought I'd pop my head back in. The app was updated for Windows Phone 8.1 support on 6/24/2014 and now I've seen anywhere from 1 download per day to 3. I have a total of 127 downloads and in 22 different countries, after all, a niche app is a niche app.
Oh, also a note, WiFi Calling only works on T-Mobile Phones (their Lumia 521 or the new 635) due to a things needing to be baked into the ROM.
I'll be updating the app, because AT&T added a new app, called AT&T Connect.
Ranking (downloads per country)
US has 86 downloads.
India has 8 downloads.
UK has 5 downloads.
Turkey and Poland have 3 downloads.
Canada, Israel, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Spain all have 2 downloads.
It would actually be Really Cool to be able to bake that driver (for WiFi calling) into a custom ROM, but sadly that's probably not really practical with the limited amount of ROM editing we can do right now. Doing it at runtime requires *adding* registry keys, which is (annoyingly) a lot harder than just editing them... although it may be possible to get it working by cannibalizing some other driver or service that we don't care about. In any case, I don't even know if the signature on it will be tolerated by non-TMoUS phones.
I think the only solution for the time being is to wait for someone to leak the tools for creating a ROM. We could essentially take the precompiled binaries and just add an extra superpackage for stuff we might want and release it into the wild, but I'm pretty sure they track those things pretty well.... If one slipped they'd revoke their SSL certificate.
Crap, MS removed the Windows 8.1 Store app, that I was testing. They claimed that it violated the ToS. Oh well, all the app did was launch Zune anyways!
2.1.2 Update!
New version is out. I've added a few new apps, but due to a change in the App Studio, they must be launched via URL and bit.ly. The store URLs are too long to enter now and the old ones can't be changed. I attempted to modify them a bit playing with Visual Studio, but to no avail. Starts complaining about the built-in advertisement framework stuff which is disabled by default and still unmodified.

Hello folks!
I've ran into an issue with Microsoft. Due to an issue I had previously with the Windows 8.1 Desktop app, and windowsphone.com being merged, I am no longer able to update the app. I can post status updates in the app, but beyond that I can't do much except to offer the source and manual deployment offerings again. Let me know what you guys think.
Android Pay stopped being officially supported/working on Android Wear (starting with the Oreo update) outside US/UK: https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/...ate-disables-android-pay-users-outside-us-uk/ and https://support.google.com/androidwear/thread/26579
I created small proof of concept app that streamlines launching/enabling of Android Pay so even with it disabled, it will only take up to two additional taps to pay with Android Pay:
Launch "Pay Enabler" (instead of Android Pay). If Android Pay is already enabled, Pay Enabler will just launch it directly.
Tap "Enable" (not needed since version 5, requires Accessibility service)
Tap "Open" (not needed since version 4)
Note 1: Google started geo blocking Google Pay on Wear OS H (Android Pie/9) so Pay Enabler doesn't work on newest firmwares. It still works on Oreo.
Note 2: When connected to iOS, Play Store requires standalone connectivity (WiFi or cellular data) for enabling as it doesn't use caches (unlike when paired with Android).

Update 2018/11/19:
Uploaded Pay Enabler version 5 here to XDA (not on Play Store, yet). It uses Accessibility service to automate enabling of Google Pay, no more tapping "Enable". (Source is also available on Github.)
Requires manual enabling in "Settings -> Accessibility -> Pay Enabler".
Works only with English - texts "Google Pay" and "Enable". Post texts in your languages and I will include them (That shouldn't be necessary as of version 5d which supports two dozens of languages - at least for the "Enable" button).
Accessibility service is registered only for Play Store so it shouldn't cause basically any battery drain (as it doesn't poll anything)
Update 2018/11/29:
Version 5 submitted to the Play Store.
Update 2018/12/16:
Version 6 fixes detection of the enable button in some non English languages (cs, fi, hi, ko, th).
For me I have no issue yet, never got 8.0 and I do not want it.
I bought this watch for Android Pay and it has worked fine since May 2017.
Even though I hate Samsung for abandoning Android Wear, I maybe forced in time to try Samsung Pay; I know my Canadian Bank supports Samsung Pay.
Anybody have any clue why Android Pay on the Android Wear watch only works in the US, UK when other countries support it ?

I didn't test it myself (yet, I'm still on Nougat) but based on user reports, Android Pay is only getting disabled (by Google Play services?). It is reported that payments are still working if it's manually enabled.
Based on this, I created small proof of concept app that streamlines launching/enabling of Android Pay so even with it disabled, it will only take two additional taps to pay with Android Pay:
Launch "Pay Enabler" (instead of Android Pay). If Android Pay is already enabled, Pay Enabler will just launch it directly.

Version 1 vs Version 3
It was reported to me that Android Pay doesn't show up in Settings (list of installed apps) so since version 2 it uses Play Store for manual enabling. (I will try if I can open the app manually from background once enabled to save the second click to "Open").

The app is compatible only with Android Wear devices running Android Oreo. You must either select your watch when installing from web or search for Pay Enabler in Play Store directly on your watch. It's standalone app for Android Wear and nothing gets installed elsewhere.

Even though I hate Samsung for abandoning Android Wear, I maybe forced in time to try Samsung Pay; I know my Canadian Bank supports Samsung Pay.
Anybody have any clue why Android Pay on the Android Wear watch only works in the US, UK when other countries support it ?

Thank you OP, it works! I wish Google would fix this or just re-enable.
And how does Samsung Pay on Gear (watch) devices work? I heard it doesn't unless you hack it hard.

Really do I need to spell it out ?
If I am forced to use a Gear I would need to dump "Google" Pay and use Samsung Pay.
But for now my watch has not been upgraded to Oreo works fine, I will never upgrade to Oreo as my first choice.
If I have to in time go to Oreo and have the same issue everybody outside of the UK, and US has I will do two things get annoyed at the arrogance of Google "hey we do not care if you been using Android Pay now Google Pay for months, we will stop you" then I will install the Pay Enabler.
The chances are I will never be forced to by a Gear, though new watches with NFC have not been released.
I'm using it since yesterday and it is so much helpful. Thank you so much!
They added 3 more countries but there are still 14 more countries affected.
To use Google Pay on your watch, you need to: Be in the US, UK, Spain, Australia, or Canada.

Is there any way to emulate being in the US from the watch? I get to the download page with the app, but can't download it as it "is not available in my country". Any way to bypass this?

Had the same problem. A long time ago I had created a Google Account via US VPN. Now I added this as a second account on the watch and selected the account in the play store and it works.
I hope it still works like this.
It's not just Android Wear
Will your fix also work on "regular" Android 8.1 on a smartphone? I have the same issue with Google Pay on my Nexus 5x, as I now live in Hungary.
In my case, the "back-end" part of Google Pay continues to work, and I can make payments at contactless terminals using my installed credit or debit cards. But the "front-end" user interface part is disabled just as described here. If I need to change the payment card used for a transaction (or add or remove a card) it's a real pain in the ass to enable the app.
Ironically, the availability of contactless payment terminals in Hungary is excellent, while in the US they almost don't exist.
From the little research I've done on the internet, there are lots of people with Google Pay on smartphones facing the same issue, and so you might want to consider a version of your fix for the rest of us!

As Hungary is not a country supported by Google Pay, are you using your payment card that was issued by US bank? I'm curious to know what is Google Pay policy on using it abroad (as on vacation or expat) - I thought the bank requirement was only for setup/card linking. (I understand you're talking about frontend vs backend as all card data and emulation is done by Google Play services)
Anyway, you should be able to use the attached apk in the first post.

Yes, all my cards are from US banks. Although I now live abroad, all my banking/finance is still US-based. I've been using Android Pay and no Google Pay for about a year without any issues from either Google or my banks. My banks are fully aware of my situation and have been really great about shipping new credit and debit cards to Hungary.
There are rare occasions where the terminal has some issue with the phone emulation, but mostly using the phone is the fastest way to pay, as the fingerprint authentication to unlock the phone eliminates the need to enter any PIN. Interestingly, as all US chip cards are non-PIN and require a signature, when using the phone to pay, I also don't need to sign any slips. The two-factor authentication does all the work.
I'll download the apk and give it a try. Thanks!

My bad. It only works the other way (phone apps work on Wear). Please see the first post again for "-phone" version.
