Overall I'm enjoying my new Nexus 9. Out of the box, I rooted it and only made a few modifications to the system. I installed TWRP, AdAway, and the Xposed framework installer for the fallowing : YouTube ad blocker, and a power menu modifier for restart options.
The only issue that I have with it is that a couple games get real laggy. The problem one is The Simpsons Tapped Out.
Any idea how to prevent this or cut it down?
As of now I'm running stock marshmallow 6.0.1 with the above changes. I close apps out when I'm done with them, and encryption is disabled.
With all this, I'm wondering if I should encrypt the tablet. It's primary use is school e-books. Secondary is games, streaming, and web surfing.

for me it runs a lot snappier on CM 13, games inlcuded
How's the battery life on CM? I also don't plan on overclocking. In all reality it does what I need.

I tested CM9 with stock kernel for about a month all the essential features worked fine the only problems I found were that the vpn conections don't work and there's always a lag in apps when you scroll up/down but that's releated to ducati and hardware acceleration also hd videos were choppy. Otherwise the games I played runned with an acceptable quality (dragon rush, duddle jump, draw something, crazy racers,...I know those games don't need a good video chip).

I have used it from time to time. From my perspective there are a few features missing that I use frequently.
Getting your location via wifi in apps like maps, earth, etc.
In some apps and widgets you can't get to the settings menu. These include the genie news & weather widget so you can't add additional tabs or remove the stock tabs you don't want.
Rainey Days app won't run.
All this appears to work in the ICS kernal, but NT won't stay going long enough to be useful.
Thanks,
There's a cm9 support thread.

Folks,
Be sure to grab the new Chrome Beta in the play store that fixes many of the issues we've had with Chrome on the Nexus 10.
Don't expect UI or UX changes in this beta. This is the first build available now that the Chrome for Android team has most everything upstreamed to the open source Chromium project. This build should feel faster due to optimizations for touch and bug fixes. There's still quite a bit of work to improve fluidity of the UI as seen here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/i...r+Summary&x=mstone&y=releaseblock&cells=tiles
I suspect Chrome will improve a good deal faster than it has in the past now that it has been open sourced and the Chrome for Android team can focus on things other than upstreaming the project.
cant find it when i search the play store

I made a thread about it a while ago, but the current version of Chrome Beta out-performs AOSP browser on Sunspider

I installed it, but whenever I opened the settings it would crash (from a null pointer exception). OK, so it has some bugs still, that's to be expected. However, now when I open the settings for the stable chrome app, it crashes with the same problem. I sent crash reports to Google for both cases, but does anyone know if the two versions interfere with each other and if there might be something I have to delete from the drive to make it work? I'm rooted, so doing that should be pretty simple.
Edit: sorry, this was on my nexus 4. But if anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
Edit 2: nvm, looks like it was a ROM issue.
How does it compare to stock s3 browser? Only had 5 minutes with it and about to sleep so can't test it but noticed within seconds it's amillion times faster and smoother than the last stable chrome which is s brilliant sign. Would love chrome to be Good enough to be my default browser on the s3 (and ipad) again ASAP.

I'd say it loads/renders pages noticeably faster, but it seems a little choppier with scrolling - a worthwhile tradeoff imo.
Very, very fast.
But for me, the main issue now Is NO FULL SCREEN mode.
Come on Google.
Anyone using the new beta have it freeze up - requiring a reboot of your N10? Sadly, this happens to me 2-3 times per day, especially if I'm browsing Chrome while listening to music (Google or Pandora). I'm going to give it a try regardless, just curious as to what others are experiencing.
I loaded up theverge.com on the new Chrome Beta then on Ocean browser,
Ocean browser is still MUCH faster to load and scroll,
Chrome beta still redraws all graphics when scrolling like my old xoom, YUCK!
Some sites is still clunky, but others is not a problem.
Video review + benchmarks - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azNB4QKm8Ag&feature=youtu.be
Page load times are indeed faster but scrolling is much slower than building chromium yourself. My guess is there are a few things still disabled in the beta build that are enabled in the chromium source.

Doesn't kill battery as much as the other one. However zooming doesn't adjust text size so kind of useless from that point of view.

Chrome needs so much work to be competitive with other offerings its sad.
I ran the Chrome beta a bit yesterday, but it only took about 25 minutes for it to freeze up and force me to reboot my Nexus 10. I don't know how prevalent this is with the beta, but it appears to still be an issue. I've gone back to using AOSP browser.
My N9 freezes in about 2 minutes every time I've done a reboot. I recently updated Nova beta and the usual updates in the Play Store. How can I discover what (app) is causing this?

I would recommend flashing the factory image and seeing if you still have the problem. If you do it's time to rma the device.

If you have root, you can use System Tuner (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.pmw) to prevent apps from auto-starting on boot (watch the video on the app page).

There is a safe mode. Hold power button, then hold power off, then press OK. After reboot only original Google apps are started. Does your N9 run normal trying this?
NEXUS 9 Freezing too
I too am having problems with the screen freezing too. Only way out is to force a reboot by holding the power button. Image on screen becomes garbled, and if sound is playing at the time of freeze, a loud time is continuously heard. Occurs almost exclusively while using graphic intensive apps, and after extended periods of use. Also, usually feels warm/hot too the touch on the device back near the camera's corner. Has occurred while running stock 5.0.2, and while running Dirty Unicorns 5.0.2 with Elemental X Kernel. Has only been occurring over the past 2 weeks or so, and it didn't correspond to any OTA'S or similar system change. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am now trying to see if underclocking the CPU/GPU help prevent this, and turned on Elemental X's Thermal Throttling in case over heating is the issue.
My Nexus freezes at least once per day, and lags, and automatically reboots at least once per week. Glad 5.1 will be rolled out soon to us. I hope it fixes all these issues.
mine has stutters all day - used stock and AICP and happens on both. it's almost always when using chrome. the quickest way to get the screen active again is to swipe down on the nav bar.
Yep Chrome is where I get my freezes. Happens on my N5 too. Might just be Chrome or maybe Adaway?

Use Chrome beta, the normal Chrome behaves oddly outside of the Windows version. I disabled Chrome on my Nexus 4 as well after giving it L.

I'm am experiencing more times than I have the patience for, times in which a power down battery swap brings forth issues with instability with lollipop! Updating Google apps only to be caught in loops of death of gapps force closing or system apps hanging and having to wait minutes until things are stable enough to do a full shut down. Just to clarify, I flashed the full rom tar, not an update. There were times in which I was certain I lost all internal data. I lost data in may, for financial and recording audio apps that left a bad gap in my daily recording of my information. I'm not going to tolerate this bs anymore. Just like any new OS, the beginning stages are pretty flaky. This is also why I'm not going from win 7 to win 10. I'm noticing the last versions of a class of OS are the most stable. Besides, framework mods still worked to my benefit. F lolly! When I wake up, I'm going to backwards flash and sit on it fit a long time! I used to love the newest, now I want stability!
I love lollipop and windows 10, i haven't had these issues, maybe just lucky. Im using the sac&darkera N5 ported V2 rom on my sprint note 3. Its been a dream and very stable thus far.
I am not a fan of Lollipop for sure, I have upgraded to windows 10. Windows 10 has the usual problems with a new OS, like Internet Explorer 11 being replaced with Microsoft Edge which has no ad blocker. But with a few clicks you can set up IE11 as the default browser in win 10 and install the Easy List from the Internet Explorer Gallery and boom no more ads. As for an alterative to Lollipop my I suggest 4.4.4 NK4 rooted deodexed and debloated, just click my signature.

Lol I'm stuck on the fact that people actually still use IE anything. Windows too for that matter.
Hi guys, can anyone tell me how can I fix this situation, because when I'm using my Nexus 9 most of the times when I minimize an app and open other, most of the time the app that I minimize will restart.
Did a factory defaults and options in developper seem to be ok, no restritctions regarding apps on backgroung.
Usually I play Star wars Galaxy of heroes, and if I change to discord (chat app) when I return it restarts my game
I also noticed that Ram availability is low, and I did a factory default 2 days ago, only installed the game and discord, nothing else.
Any suggestion?? Should I Root and Install a new ROM, if so what would you recommend?
I would prefer to Keep the actual OS if there's a fix for it
Thanks
I can't help but wonder if this is similar to what mine does. The apps in the recent display disappear -not all of them but definitely 50%. This does not happen on my N5X. I can't say when it started but at least 4 months ago.

Hi, the apps don't disappear, the tabs are there, they simply restart when I select them instead of just changing back to the previously running app.
It's kind of annoying when I'm on the middle of a game and want to check out something else, if I switch to chrome or other app there is a big risk that the game will restart and I will lost any progression made...same happens with other apps.
