New V10 update from Verizon, anyone try it yet?

Haven't received it yet. But very disappointed that it does not contain the fingerprint fix.
Don't download any updates if you want to root the device in the future.
Grabbed a quick screen capture...sorry for not noticing your link.

Oh really ... that's awesome to know! I'll test it as soon as my phone gets it. I guess they never mentioned it in the release notes since they didn't want to acknowledge that the problem existed in the first place
I'm loading it now. I'll let everyone know Once I have a chance to fool around with it.

I have to say it is working marvelously now for me too. I had just given up on using it as it was more of a miss than hit on working.
Loaded it, fingerprint scanner with case worked before. Still works, but seems......better? When it was updating it looked like it was applying two updates/patches. Don't know if that is normal.
So far so good with the fingerprint fix with case. Was terrible before this update and now it seems like it was when I didn't have a case. Going to add a finger to see if that process is smoother.
Fingerprint scanner working like a charm now (including with case). Also, doesn't require the full finger to be placed as before (BIG WIN)
Makes me feel better now for not getting a Nexus 6p
Got it. Fingerprint reader now works with case on phone. Wi-Fi is better.
Can also confirm fingerprint sensor works really well. About time!
Ditto finger print reader working better than ever with all my cases. Surprised the did not mention it in notes.

Yep, this fixed the fingerprint issue with my Spigen Armor case. Works immediately every time.
Over on Android Central people are reporting louder volume with Google Play Music, bluetooth working were it didn't before, and wifi working better after the update. You can also now julienne fries with the V10......
fingerprint does seem to work with cases, really well now..
I did however find an issue with it.. if you have the phone charging and with a case, the fingerprint seems to not work just like before.
can someone else try it?

Just popped it on a charger, with case....no problem unlocking with fingerprint scanner.
Yes, my speaker volume seems to be louder after the update.
Can anyone with louder volume show their mixer paths? Or shoot me the file? Thanks in advance.

FIX YOUR PROXIMITY SENSOR IN YOUR 5.1 ROM!
This little modification is the result of a lot of code back-tracing and trial and error by me, and some very helpful testing and feedback from users in my MeanPop ROM thread! So first a thank you to the users who helped me out: it was difficult to test this myself because I don't have the problem that some are having with the increased proximity sensor sensitivity on 5.1 ROMs so I relied on user testing to get this done:
Thank you:
@traicer - Real time testing! You rock! You are the reason I was able to finally wrap this up in one night!
@androiduser2011 - Thanks for the confirmation on the fix!
@808phoneaddict, @drscott333, @streetracer8605 - Thanks for the repeat testing over the last week or so
If I forgot anyone, please PM me.
If anyone wants to include this fix in their ROM or other work, please feel free to do so: just please credit me.
DOWNLOAD/INSTALLATION:
OK, here's what you've been looking for. The procedure is simple. Get yourself up and running on any 5.1 (stock based) ROM and then just flash prox-fix-5.1 over top. Once flashed, your proximity sensor should be fixed.
Download from AndroidFileHost
I've gotten a few confirmations on this fix so far but it's early in the game, so if you run into any trouble, please just reply in this thread. Upon initial release, it looks like this fix takes care of the proximity sensor issue without affecting other functions. Calls, camera, VoLTE, and other functions appear to be unaffected.
DONATIONS:
If this works for you and I've saved you from having to cut, remove, or buy a new screen protector just to run a 5.1 ROM, please consider kicking a few bucks my way. :good:
Or... if you already removed or mutilated your screen protector, just hit thanks: that's free.

Wow. I literally caved in and took my perfect screen protector off last night. I may need to buy another one though that one has been on since November. Knowing my luck they revised them to be tiny. I was one of the fortunate ones who's screen is flat right to nearly the edge. So a full size protector fit without any lifting.
I don't seem to have these issues, but this is a nice fix to offer.
BTW, it seems that Google is also looking into the issue.

Nice! I got so annoyed with this problem that I removed my TGSP last week. Oh well, maybe I'll order up another one.
I tried to hold out for a fix, but I couldn't. I wish I could test for you.
Works great! Thanks @mikeyxda
Been using the ol' power button to end call because we all know how hard it is to find a proper fitting glass protector, this worked perfectly on Chroma. Thanks for tracking this one down!
Happy I could help. Thank you so much for finding a fix. Donation sent!

Glad it seems to be working out for all with the problem! Even though I never had a problem with this (my screen protector doesn't cover the prox sensor), I've been running this now for ~20 hours with no ill effects so it appears to fix the problem without bringing on any new issues.
Edit: from what I'm seeing, I believe this fix will even work for 5.1 AOSP ROMs as well. But we'd need someone running an AOSP ROM to confirm that.
Mike
@mikeyxda you are the freaking MAN!!!
Just confirmed working with Chroma 3/31 build.
Wow. Wish I had found this before ripping my perfect protector off too. I'm using a plastic one now, which doesn't cause the issue & now all the glass ones are too small & have ugly cutouts. Thanks though. If I can find another "good" screen protector........
I can confirm fix is working on benzo ROM .
Thank you !!!
Very happy I held off on removing my screen protector and just stuck with 5.0.2 ROMs until a fix came out.
Running since yesterday with no other issue.

Fantastic work, thanks a bunch.
Wow, was so excited to see this post and fix. Odd though, not working for me running the 5.1 Chroma ROM, 3/27 build. Willing to test. Seems to be more of an issue on incoming calls and definitely on longer calls.
damn wish i would of seen this few days ago lol i took off my zagg glass screen protector after few days :crying: they are sending me new one ocne i told them what happened . Thanks for your work ill be testing this out soon
I'm in the US and i've had an international version of the z5c. I sold it to try the nexus 5x. I love the smoothness of the 5x but the size is too big. Soo.. I'm wanting to go back to the z5c which is finally being released as a US variant. The problem is that it won't come with a fingerprint scanner and it's actually more money!! But probably has a warranty which is good. . Now I know I can still buy the international still but do you think that the radios inside will work better for US carriers? Or is the only difference the fingerprint scanner? Honestly I wasn't impressed with Sony's implementation of the scanner anyway.. I thought it didn't work very well but if it's the exact same reception, I'd just buy another international model.

If you want root, international must be better. I think not many developers will get the one without fingerprint. The radio is just same.

Agreed. Sometimes it is flawless and lets me in instantly while sometimes I tap the thing five times and have to type in my password. Also, since it is still running Lollipop no apps can use the fingerprint reader unless the get the API from Sony. I hope that changes with Marshmallow.

Personally I really like it.
It had to redo the calibration a few times though. However, this isn't exactly the fault of the scanner. The problem was simply that how I placed my finger on the scanner during my first calibrations was somewhat different than how I place it on the scanner on everyday use. I. e. more to the front or to the back or to the side, it varies with the finger used. So if you often use your fingertip for pressing the button but only scanned the center of your finger the scanner during calibration it isn't exactly surprising that it often does not work.
It works quite well since I redid the calibration paying close attention how exactly I place finger on the button during everyday use.
I've only had problems with the scanner when my finger is not 90-100% dry. It fails to detect fingerprints in that case.

Here's the update that I got.
More accurate and fast
Does anyone know this:
If you are with the factory applied screen protector, do you have to also remove it and re-register your fingerprints after updating? Or this is only for other screen protectors (silicone)?
It's not very clear from the update explanation.
Is it region related? because I didn't get it. (I'm on TKD and I'm not able to change it)
Update available and applied in Thailand.
Personally I just applied it without removing my screen protector.
Sensor seems a bit faster to unlock now.
Is it region related? because I didn't get it. (I'm on TKD and I'm not able to change it)
Anyone tried this on Whitestone glass? I'm afraid it could be worst after update.
Edit later: everything is OK after update, even better than before
Is it me or the fingerprint sensor became really sensitive. I mean before I need to put some pressure on the screen for the fingerprint sensor to recognize my finger. Now I just tap the fingerprint area without no pressure and boom, I'm in.

Perfect. Thank you. I was just about to make a post asking if it will... In my mind, I had a feeling that it would but I wasn't very sure. Now any ideas how we'd go about getting this update with root? Also, If not, that's fine. I'll live with it, but how do we go about stopping the notification? Its constantly popping up on my screen, everytime I decline it comes back again a few minutes later.
Edit: Figured it out... Rather simple actually, just disable the "TADownloader" system app using any disabler. It won't affect anything other than informing you of Secuity/Biometrics updates, which for us Rooted users is useless anyway.
Still would like to know how we can go about getting this update with root? Perhaps wait until the next security build update (November), and then it maybe will be included in that? If that's the case, then we can just patch that November build, and then, reflash using Odin.

I do apologize, but just found out yesterday after restarting it wasn't there anymore.
Maybe updating then patching Magisk before restart? Maybe installing back again from TWRP (20.0 zip format?). Same procedure of updating stock manually should work I think. The upgrade doesn't require to restart by the way, but after restart I didn't had Magisk
Just installed LineageOS 16 for S10 after that, so can't really give you an answer there.
Also would be good if someone else may confirm my claim, pretty sure it caused it, but someone else confirming could be nice.

For now, factory reset help. Fingerprint scanner works again. We'll see how long this time it will work.
Hopefully Samsung fixes it in the next update. I had fingerprint scanner issues from day one, it took me a few tries to even get my finger print registered.

I somehow got in contact with google support yesterday, but the "fingerprint scanner guy" was busy they said, and they'll contact me via email. I will post here if they give me a solution. I was wondering if flashing the factory image will solve the issue.

I didn't get a proper response from google. However, I got a response in an iFixit forum.
"Hey Tilan, speaking as a Google Certified Technician, through the pixel repair process, there is currently issues with the finger calibration connection via Windows. So far, all of my store’s computers are not able to properly run the fingerprint calibration. The only time that I was able to make it successful was through another android phone, in this case was my Pixel 5, and another Chromebook. Got news that some other location starts to have it working on their computers, but don’t take my words for it"
I still haven't tried this though.

Same with me either.
Even the latest security patch didn't work for me.
But swapping the old fingerprint scanner from the broken screen to the new screen worked.(It did not even required calibration as it recognised the fingerprint straight away).
Just a really poor launch by Google. Buggy software everywhere.
Are there just some people's FPs that just work well with many diff kinds of phones and with both optical and ultrasonic FPS? I've used Samsung's versions, OnePlus and Google now and I never ran into any issues using their FPS.

I also tried to swap the fingerprint sensor from my old screen to my new screen now. It's a bit tricky as I wasn't able to make it perfectly centered / flat the first time, so I had a lot of issues first to get it to read. I opened it up again, cleaned the back glass for the sensor cutout, and used a heat gun to melt the glue and was able to get it centered and flat this time.
Thanks for the tip!
It feels like the calibration software isn't going to be working anytime soon, and this is the way to do it for now.
Is there really no way to get the fingerprint scanner working again after a screen repair? There must be a way....
