Is the US model worth it? - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in the US and i've had an international version of the z5c. I sold it to try the nexus 5x. I love the smoothness of the 5x but the size is too big. Soo.. I'm wanting to go back to the z5c which is finally being released as a US variant. The problem is that it won't come with a fingerprint scanner and it's actually more money!! But probably has a warranty which is good. . Now I know I can still buy the international still but do you think that the radios inside will work better for US carriers? Or is the only difference the fingerprint scanner? Honestly I wasn't impressed with Sony's implementation of the scanner anyway.. I thought it didn't work very well but if it's the exact same reception, I'd just buy another international model.

If you want root, international must be better. I think not many developers will get the one without fingerprint. The radio is just same.

Agreed. Sometimes it is flawless and lets me in instantly while sometimes I tap the thing five times and have to type in my password. Also, since it is still running Lollipop no apps can use the fingerprint reader unless the get the API from Sony. I hope that changes with Marshmallow.

Personally I really like it.
It had to redo the calibration a few times though. However, this isn't exactly the fault of the scanner. The problem was simply that how I placed my finger on the scanner during my first calibrations was somewhat different than how I place it on the scanner on everyday use. I. e. more to the front or to the back or to the side, it varies with the finger used. So if you often use your fingertip for pressing the button but only scanned the center of your finger the scanner during calibration it isn't exactly surprising that it often does not work.
It works quite well since I redid the calibration paying close attention how exactly I place finger on the button during everyday use.

I've only had problems with the scanner when my finger is not 90-100% dry. It fails to detect fingerprints in that case.

Haven't received it yet. But very disappointed that it does not contain the fingerprint fix.
Don't download any updates if you want to root the device in the future.
Grabbed a quick screen capture...sorry for not noticing your link.

Oh really ... that's awesome to know! I'll test it as soon as my phone gets it. I guess they never mentioned it in the release notes since they didn't want to acknowledge that the problem existed in the first place
I'm loading it now. I'll let everyone know Once I have a chance to fool around with it.

I have to say it is working marvelously now for me too. I had just given up on using it as it was more of a miss than hit on working.
Loaded it, fingerprint scanner with case worked before. Still works, but seems......better? When it was updating it looked like it was applying two updates/patches. Don't know if that is normal.
So far so good with the fingerprint fix with case. Was terrible before this update and now it seems like it was when I didn't have a case. Going to add a finger to see if that process is smoother.
Fingerprint scanner working like a charm now (including with case). Also, doesn't require the full finger to be placed as before (BIG WIN)
Makes me feel better now for not getting a Nexus 6p
Got it. Fingerprint reader now works with case on phone. Wi-Fi is better.
Can also confirm fingerprint sensor works really well. About time!
Ditto finger print reader working better than ever with all my cases. Surprised the did not mention it in notes.

Yep, this fixed the fingerprint issue with my Spigen Armor case. Works immediately every time.
Over on Android Central people are reporting louder volume with Google Play Music, bluetooth working were it didn't before, and wifi working better after the update. You can also now julienne fries with the V10......
fingerprint does seem to work with cases, really well now..
I did however find an issue with it.. if you have the phone charging and with a case, the fingerprint seems to not work just like before.
can someone else try it?

Just popped it on a charger, with case....no problem unlocking with fingerprint scanner.
Yes, my speaker volume seems to be louder after the update.
Can anyone with louder volume show their mixer paths? Or shoot me the file? Thanks in advance.

Future P9000 user. Worth to buy?

Hello.
I have questions for current users of P9000. I do not have this phone. I can buy new P9000 for 180 USD. What you think? It is good idea? Chinese phones are always good "on paper" but always have bugged stock roms. We have any stable rom for P9000 for daily use without pain in ass? If you had to choose, would you buy it a second time?
Please help me decide.
Regards
I bought it but I am not hapy with it.
Camera from the biginning was not well, and now stopped at all by itself. I did not drop or do something just in one day it stopped to launch.
Edge of display came of from the body. Battery drain is good if you don't use 3G.
If you want good phone search among Xiaomi , Meizu or ZTE.
For me "ZTE nubia z11 Mini" is good.
Definitely not. Gps, fast charge and camera are not good enough. Android pay does not work..buy one plus 3
Its is a good phone , interesting phone, but google pay not working, when it is working its is a great phone....
Enviado do meu SHIELD Tablet K1 através de Tapatalk
I think its all about expectations. For me after rooting and flashing Eragon ROM I am happy with what I paid for. Don't expect Samsung/Apple standards for its camera its really bad compared to those. I dont use google/android pay so that doesn't bug me.
For that price I don't think you can get anything better.
I'm not sure what Google pay is but there is no problem buying apps with the phone.
GPS is not perfect but usable, same with the camera.
Battery time is very good at least for me. Twice I have left the phone fully charge at 10 pm and att 5 am I have 100% & 99%. This is with wifi and sync on. When I hade 99% there was a Titanium Backup of all user apps 200+ in the middle of the night.
Fast charge I don't know anything about, I charge the phone during night so that would not be an issue.
I have Eragon ROM on the phone.
The physical device itself is pretty solid but the stock software, as of present, is similar to that of an early beta build.
I'd advise you don't take the leap as I believe Elephone shouldn't be encouraged for releasing an incomplete phone.
I would not buy again. External SD doesn't work at all. Had to factory reset after update to get fingerprints back. Spontaneous reboots & alarms unreliable since last OTA update. I'd spend more money and get OnePlus 3 or used OnePlus 2.

External SD works just fine. Fingerprints dissapearing after an update of software is a known issue but a very minor inconvenience - all you have to do is add them back again. Which software version are you currently on?
20160810
I knew about the fingerprint issue but misread something from the release notes that caused me to think it had been fixed. It's not that they go missing, it's that they remain used but unrecoverable, so I went for a few weeks with only one fingerprint. No biggie.
My SD Card has never, ever worked. It's as though it's not even there. SIM works fine in that slot though.
In general I find the phone is not quite stable enough that I would recommend it to anyone else to buy, but it's not quite unstable enough that I sent it back, although I might have done if I'd had a decent spare.
Sent from my P9000 using Tapatalk
On paper it sounds good but too many bugs for me to use as a my daily driver so sent back to Amazon. GPS not great, fingerprint unlock not reliable. Unable to send or receive text without rebooting occasionally which was the biggie for me.
You get what you pay for, all phones have problems at one time or another no phone is perfect, GPS after lock works fine, finger print a bit slow but never had a problem as such, Camera isn't the problem it's the software use a different app and it's not that bad and I still have an Xperia Z1 so i can compare, Android Pay i live in the UK all bank card are contactless why fiddle about with a phone when it easier to just pull out your bank card the number of time i've stood behind some one trying to pay for something with their IPhone is mind numbing, you can make calls you can send texts you can receive calls and texts, if you have a higher budget then try something else if not this phone is as good or as bad as any.

I suspected exactly that, Carl.
I am considering this phone, too. Most of my friends have Apple and Samsung high ends (that what's absolutely dominates the market here in Singapore), some of them are already on the 3. device while I still have my 2 yo crappy beaten-up Zenfone 5 ... it's as well not without flaws but surprisingly solid. I'm 100% off the high end stuff. The time we payed high end money and really got something feelably and visably better is long over. Yep, more money buys me better, but now it's not always, and not 3 - 4 times better.

would you?

Considering the severe lack of support and updates on the matter 10 pro for the USA, would you consider buying another Huawei device?

Yes, but I will not buy the US version even if it comes without warranty, I just learned that I'll never buy a US version on any Android phone, for example, Samsung phones cannot unlock the bootloader on the US version so you can't root it or install other rom, and you will get updates months after the international version, same thing happens to LG about the updates, I have the Mate 10 Pro, and I will probably buy the Mate 20 Pro on March, if there is a US version I won't be buying it
Their decision to stop providing keys for unlocking the bootloader means that I wouldn't buy Huawei again, really. They have nothing to gain from it apart from locking users into their system, and I can't stand that sort of thing in a product I bought and own.

I won't be buying Huawei again until they get rid of the excessive background task killer, that causes problems for a number of my apps and widgets. I love the hardware, but really not keen on the software

I still don't see how people have this issue. I have no issue with background as being killed. Maybe check the launch setting inside battery in settings and make sure it's set to manually manage them.
Using Mate 10, never gonna buy Huawei again.
No promised updates (digital zoom, arcore, volte in my country, emui 8.1, camera update, disgrace front camera etc)
Idiotic background killing for battery stats (notification problems, dont care how many hour i am seeing at battery page if phone lacks basic job like app notification.)
Not using it for first time but i tought some things changed after 2 years and got my response, this is last time for sure...

It's better than it used to be, in that things sometimes work now. Yes, all the apps with problems are allowed to auto launch and run in the background, and even have 'ignore battery optimisations' set. They all worked just fine on all my previous phones.

I will probably just buy only Huawei from now on, just not the U.S. versions.

Strange issue. Can anyone help? It's urgent please.

I'm having the dreaded touch lag issue on my poco device.
I've sent it back for repair or refund but they refuse to do anything since the touch tests pass.
I tried explaining them my previous 3 years old device is fine and that the poco which is much newer and faster should do this and they don't listen to me, they say that the device is working like the manufacturer intended for it to work.
So, can anyone record a video?
It should only take 2-3 minutes to record and upload. Do it in 480p it doesn't matter as long as it shows the issue.
There are 2 ways to do it, the correct way, and the fast way, I'll write both.
1) Go to about phone, kernel version, tap a few times then CIT testing app will open. (if it doesn't open try again)
Then go to the top right and press the three dot menu, then additional tools, then touch sensor.
Then tap really fast on the edges of the display. If your device is working as intended the touches should all be registered.
2) Download realdrum, and tap really fast on the below drums on the edge of the display, If your device is working as intended the drums should register all the inputs without missing.
Again it's urgent, so I could use all the help I can.
Thank you.
Did you tried your device without a case? I read about cases doing this issued.

No change.
Is your device working correctly?
Could you upload a video?
Here's an example video of what the problem looks like.
Ignore that the language is not english, the video was recorded for the shop to see.

I feel for you. All the 7 pocophone I have tried have this annoying issue. I've complained and asked people about it, and who claims that theirs is working fine is either using Swiftkeyboard (which isn't as fast as Gboard), or simply doesn't know how to test this properly. Maybe they just don't notice it at all, but I doubt there's a single pocophone without this bug, and this is what made me give up on the phone.

Wow.
God damn it Xiaomi, how can they release a faulty device and take no responsibility for it?
Samsung went ahead and recalled all the Note 7s that had the battery issue, a much more expensive and higher selling device.

2 returned from a retail store, 2 from amazon, 1 that I tried from a store and 2 more from friends of mine. It's absurd how bad their quality control is. They claim that it's software, just like they claimed the screen bleeding was part of the phone. They're a ****ing joke.
Do you have a screen protector on , or to be more specific, a tempered glass one with the black band? If so this is your issue because the black band is slight raising the contact. Have you tried pressing the device harder to see it it registers?

Most of the units if not all have this problem, I canceled my order for this phone recently and I'm glad that I did. Xiaomi had to save on something and they did, sadly on the screen. Screens from tianma are known for their not very good quality ( rumors say that they catch afterimages after time ) and it feels bad that it turned out that this phone is a big no no. Screen is a numero uno thing when it comes to a phone, damn u look and type on it so despite the great specification this phone is a crap. People all over miui forum write threads that their pocophones have input lag and ghost touches. Xiaomi knows about it and since a month clam that they gonna fix it via ota updates. Let me tell you something they won't. It's not possible to fix it because it's a faulty digitizer that causes the problem which is obviously a part of the hardware. That's what happens when you try to rock the world with the best spec budget smartphone and u cut costs in the lcd panel area. With all that being said, don't fall for this phone. If you look for the good phone for 300 bucks then better option imo is for example Lg g6. Don't get fooled and stay open minded guys, peace.

Good decision, refund this crappy phone and get something better. When it comes to me xiaomi just lost a supporter and follower, once Hugo Barra left xiaomi everything started to fall apart ( mi mix 2/2s are not as revolutionary as the first mi mix was or the mi 8 which is nothing else than a iphone x copy ). It's always good to wait and see the very first 3 months after a phone release, usually after this time most of the fails/cons come out. Have a good day anyways

Well, it doesn't change the fact that lcd panels in pocophones are poor quality. I don't really believe that they managed to fix it via updates, only time will tell after let's say a month if the problem is fixed. I don't think that it will, it's better to send the phone back, get ur money and wait. There are way better options for example the aforementioned one plus 6.
Working fine for me
For me it is working fine. I can't see the blue line which show the position but the touch is working fine even when I tap it fast. The touch is always registered without the blue lines. You can always see a red dot where you touched.

Fyi op6 screen has high latency as well

Question Am I the only one who things the FP recognition has got worse since Dec update?

I eagerly installed the Dec 2021 update on my Pixel 6 a couple of weeks back - hoping to improve the FP pass rate.
But I am convinced its gotten worse.
It seemed better at first - but soon deteriorated...
Since the update, whilst it still unlocks on the 1st attempt occasionally, I am finding far more instances where it completely fails to recognise my FP and I am forced to put my PIN number in to unlock.
Prior to the update, it would unlock more often on the 1st attempt - otherwise it may have taken 2-3 attempts to unlock and very rarely I would have to enter the PIN.
Same here! adding more of the same finger did not help!
It was better or about the same from 13/12 until 25/12, and now I hardly can use it. have to enter password all the time.

I am not sure where you are located geographically, but in the northern hemisphere it is now winter. As such the overall humidity levels (particularly indoors) tends to be very low and skin is drier. What you may be seeing is your skin seasonally drying out - and the P6 is terrible at reading dry fingerprints.

I had a feeling about this - but never had the same issue with my previous OnePlus phones with screen based FP reader.
Also, the back sensor on cheap Oppo phone or basic Nord N100 work fine - unlock first time...
Did anybody here read the other 8+ threads here in the Pixel 6 thread about the finger print reader. ?
Just curious, why no one found any help there....
Not looking for help, just sharing and trying to get an idea of other people's experiences post Dec update.

Back sensors use different technology than in screen ones.

I think his point was that there are a half dozen FPR threads already and another is not really needed. Why not find an older one and update that? Wouldn't that make more sense?
Worst FPR ever put on a phone
Ok this is beyond a joke now. Why in the hell would these morons remove face unlock only to add the absolute worst fingerprint reader I've ever dealt with on any phone I've ever owned. I never thought I'd consider going back to pin unlock...

Just installed a glass screen protector and FPR won't recognize
I did the steps people have said to do like increase touch sensitivity and re add all the fingers I would use but it still won't work. I don't know who made this protector since I got it off a marketplace site and when I met with the person all...

As you will note, I mentioned that multiple OnePlus phones with screen based sensors worked fine for me.
I am also aware that back sensors use different tech - the point was that cheapo bottom of the range phones have no problems with fingerprints - so why does my £600 phone not work as well. It's not good enough.

Because some are pre update, and some of the post update threads are more concerned with who has received the update and who has not.
Seriously don't understand the problem, I create a thread with a very specific question and suddenly I am took to task for it...woah....
No problem in the fingerprint department for me since Dec update. It is almost perfect now. Very rare to get failed reads.
If only I had some cell signal though

Sent it back for a refund.
I would not put up with all the troubles that you are having.
My P6 works good before the December update and after the December update.
As said multiple times in the
other threads.

I would love to - but its been over 2 months since I ordered it. I foolishly hoped that Google would fix it ASAP - and the 1st attempt has been less than satisfactory...Wish I had returned it within the 30 days...
There seems to be some hope of a workaround... Fingerprint Reader tip
