Hello,
Android is open source project. I am searching for a while, but I could not find any core apps of android.
For example:
1- where can I found AOSP launcher?
2- where can I found the AOSP calendar app ? (for example someone on google play has build the core text message app of android: h t t p s : / / p l a y . g o o g l e . c o m /store/apps/details?id=fr.slvn.mms )
3- some of packages are including on opengapps ( h t t p s : / / g i t h u b . c o m / opengapps/opengapps/wiki/Package-Comparison ) but I don't want to install the "google calendar" but the "calendar" because I don't trust google for privacy reasons. (for example google chrome vs chromium)
4- Is where any build of Chromium (not google chrome please)?
Why no one from the community did not update all of basic apps on google play and f-droid? So we can use them always updated.
Thanks in advance
Please someone can help me :/
They are all contained in the Android stock source that you can download from Google. The main reason most don't bother with those apps is that no one really works on them. Google no longer evens updates them. They put all their work into their closed sourced replacements.

First Thank you for your answer.
I could nto get the point of the updates... Android still getting updates. That means google's core apps (launcher vs) getting updates too.
Also chrome is still updating. That means Chromium is updating too.
Should I open this thread on cyanogen or other ROM's thread? :crying:

Hi everyone. I'm new on android so this issue confuses my mind. If i have to download an older version of an application, how can i find an older version of it. For instance the newest version of "A" application is 2.2.1. But i want to do downgrade/download the older version for instance 2.1.0. How can i get it? From apk sites or such like that?
If so what is the widest and best apk sites for this to download ??
Thanks for your replies...
contact the app developer and ask for it is probably the easiest/quickest route

Thanks for your reply firstly. But i asked this question as a general knowledge. Before my new android phone, i was using the iOS and i know how to do it. (i knew the .ipa sources and methods) Also i did it sometimes. But in android i dont know any quality apk sources for instance for older versions of some base applications (that has receive lots of updates) whatsapp, instagram, facebook etc...
Many of the apk sites will be no more than Warez sites .
Google is always your best source of apks bearing in mind the above .
Possibly a search or an ask on XDA .
Old versions is not something normally asked for .
jje
all the apps on play store have email contacts, so I would just email them direct

The play store (I haven't tested other google apps) of 2014-10-15 Google Apps Minimal Edition works fine on my Defy 2014-10-25 nightly.
I just wanted to thank jaijb for this awesome package! I froze alot of stuff on my G3 and then my Play Store started to act up (No Connection error) , unfreezing everything didn't fix it either. So I uninstalled all the google stuff I didn't want and the necessary stuff that this package installs (well, all essential stuff except Google Accounts Manager). Booted into custom recovery using Recover Installer 1.01 and installed the zip. And voila!
I tried PA GAPPs pico and CM11 Minimal package in the same manner but it didn't work, it would get stuck again on *Connection error* on Play Store. This one worked for me though.
armv6
hi,
i have an old phone (galaxy mini - tass) and i modified gapps package to work properly with armv6 legacy device. so few suggestions...
1) can you add separate armv6 version of GAPPS?
i'm using google play services 5.0.89 (1307510-010) - armeabi CPU. not latest, but not so big...
(Google Play Services 5.0.89 (1307510-010) = 19MB VS. 6.1.83 (1522025-010) = 35MB)
in -010 version there are only 4 (armeabi) .so in /lib:
libAppDataSearch.so
libconscrypt_gmscore_jni.so
libgames_rtmp_jni.so
libgmscore.so
=> no FC on legacy devices (infamous AOSP keyboard stopped working due armv7 version of libjni_latinime.so)
2) update .apk
in your package, you have 4.4.4-1227136 (kitkat 4.4.4) version of libraries, i've upgraded to 4.4.4-1253334 (kitkat 4.4.4_r2). not important, but i like to have the latest versions...
3) i'm more aggressive with cm11 rom stripping... you can remove:
system\tts\ ~ 1.3 MB
system\usr\srec ~ 1.8 MB
system\media\audio some ringtones... ~ 3 MB
system\fonts some fonts... ~ 3 MB
GApps not working
In Play Store, iam getting this error: There was a problem communicating with google servers [RPC:S-7:AEC:0] everytime I try to install an app.
The Google account can't be synced (this is stated in the settings).
Occurred on Defy with CM 11.0 nightly from october 28th.
Keyboard not working
Hi, Thanks for your kind effort. I ´m running CM 11 on a Galaxy Ace, so I really appreciate the light weight apps. work like a charm... except for the keyboard... and as I have no file manager anymore, I can´t install swiftkey! any idea that how to install a keyboard ?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Works well
Works great on My Nexus 5. Thank you!
I drop using my Wave long ago, even tho in the meanwhile I used it to watch some spanish streaming tv with the tv output on a crt tv, but now I want to change its OS with a nice version of android, to have a backup of my main android phone (a Vodafone Smart Mini/875 with jellybean 4.1.1) that's actually giving me some troubles.
So now I'm a bit lost, I already found and read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sam...t-android-roms-samsung-wave-gt-s8500-t2842566 where there's some kind of a list of the actual custom portings, but not all states the android version, besides it seems to not include the 5.* lollipop versions.
What I want to install is a complete and hopefully stable version, it doesn't need to be lollipop/5.*, expecially if it doesn't give any benefit except to being the newest/up-to-date but it eats more ram memory (that with only 512 Mb is an issue, the 875 have the same amount and with jb eats up more or less 400Mb~), and I need (almost) every feature available on Bada being present on Android too (like: tv output, camera button, bluetooth, wifi, 2g/3g/3.5g data/voice/txt, etc.).
I'm just asking to point me (/suggesting) to the right direction (thread/release) to the best or better options available for me.
Thank you in advance!
Man , i will answer you but you better do what i say , cause it is the only truth
Badadroid project start with a couple of an amazing developers , those formed the porting team
the first ROM to be ported to wave was developed by Rebellos and Volk204
after that Volk204 took the project by himself
so:
Any ROMs by volk204 are worth using
Any other ROM you see are just kang/copie of his work by some amateurs , and are without actual support (not if Volk204 doesn't fix the problem himself )
I recommend you using OMni rom 4.4.4 by volk204 and flash RIL fix from this post

Omni Lollipop are not for daily use , major problem with it ; is the low free memory , apps will just close , you can't use (for me Endomondo + Music ) it will work to certain point ; than Android will kill one of the 2 apps
Fellow my Guide , it has most of the thing you need
The complete Optimization Guide for Omni Rom (4.4 and Lollipop)
And in earlier this year an another Recognized developer here on XDA "Alberto96" got an interest in developing ROM for wave1/wave2
he released a nice ROM , and now the links are dead , but he is BACK and he is working on his trademark ROM "GearCM" for our wave and from what i see in the his Github , it gonna be awesome
So :
Best ROM now (actual one ROM exist , it is not like i will tell something new ) [ROM][WIP][NAND] Omni 4.4 - 11.12.2014 By volk204 (don not install Gapps)
Best ROM ( Future release ) GearCM by alberto96 fellow his GIthub https://github.com/Alberto96?tab=activity
so what are the other ROMs released by Rebellos and Volk204:
it been like this since the very earlier day of Badadroid
Bugs fix go along with ROM updates , they didn't work on the same android version , every couple and there a major bug fix come with the Cyanogen source update
So anything less than Omni 4.4 (11.12.2014) has more bugs .
i must mention
Senior member Hero355 he did work on a promising ROM (Smartkat) by he got busy with life and let the project unfinished . But his Bada 2.0 Turko Rom is just Great
Senior member BenzoX he did work on Dual boot (Bada/android) and Dual android rom boot, he did work on nand and sd ROM (he is also got busy and let some things not fixed ) s
some people are using this unfinished Alpha projects , what do you expect from their ROMs :crying:
there is nothing else you need to know
Kind regards
So now. With Liondroid, Omni 6.0, GearCM and omni 4.4.4 which one can be considered for a daily use?
In my opinion, if GearCM had a better communication management it would be the best.
if you do not mind the theme in Russian, then take a look http://www.badapps.ru/6081-ledenec-ot-djkoloda-dlya-samsung-wave-8500-i-853008242015.html
Looks promising. At the moment I'm trying liondroid (very smooth but I need further tests) but I keep your link for later.
Maybe you could see with the creator to put his version on xda?
What should I do, if after installing some gapps (not the ones from here) the phone goes with a black screen after starting omni? it only shows the notification bar

Omni 4.4 by volk204, but I figured it out, wipe some data in recovery and I could reflash the ROM again and flash other gapps.. but now, I'm having trouble with the Google play services last update , it's laggy.. I'm trying to optimize the rom with the guide by @ice_ice where there's a section to put the Google play services like it wasn't never installed...but I'm cannot find the option WAKEUP with the 3C Tools app to disable it, I can't disable other services of Google play services becase the phone it's so slow that it shuts down after a while and I can't make it...
Do you think that the YouTube App and whatsapp will work fine if I uninstall the updates? I mean, That would be easier to make, because the updates are killing the ram... It's my dad's phone, so he just need whatsapp, something to check the Facebook (I installed the lite version), YouTube and Something to open Gmail (any reasonable lite app for Gmail?)
Dsebas91 , I use the 4.4.4 by djkoloda without installing, gapps .
All the apps I downloaded in *.apk files.
Recommend YouTube_v4.1.47.apk .
Gmail I checked by logging into account from a standard browser.
Sync contacts with Google through a program of CardDav-Sync.
Hello there.
I'm developing a custom rom and I want to add a link to my website on the Homescreen / Launcher (so users will be able to check infos and updates about the rom)
1st Method: chrome
I searched on google "how to add an .html file on Android launcher /home screen" and every website I consulted just adviced me to download Chrome and use it to add bookmarks on the home screen.
The problem is that I'm making an Android 2.3 rom and I'm working on a device with limited storage, I don't want to download and install Chrome just to make a link...
2nd Method: apk with webview
I know how to develop a simple app in Android Studio that just uses a webview to display my website, but I don't want to use this method too because Android 2.3 webview is obsolete and I included a modern and lightweight browser in my rom. A whole apk to just open a webpage would be wasted
3rd Method: ?
I believe there's a way to put links to any file on the homescreen! Especially if the rom (pre)rooted like mine. Can you tell me how to do this, please?
Thanks in advance
I have Acer A500 with Android 4.0.3
I'm trying to install apk Youtube 11.01.70
Youtube won't run without Google Pay services
Google Play services is not present
I try to install apk Google Play services 14.3.69. When I try to install it, it tells me there is a problem parsing the package
Any more ideas?
Because you're using an outdated version of Android.
So it's not possible at all? I thought for an old version of Android I just had to find the right old version of the apps (apk) and installed them.

Even if you did that, it'll ask you to update your apps.
And you can't manually just add all the apps you need? (like Google Play Services in my case)
I find it surprising that this old Android cannot go back to the state it was 10 years ago, if I can get the same software (apk)
In general, the problem parsing the package means that your system software is too old to install that apk file.
Can't you upgrade your Acer A500 system software via OTA at first?
On the other hand, does your mobile phone system really have no built-in Google service framework?

Thanks for the idea. I have never done something like that. Where can I find a OTA image for A500? If you have any instructions for installation it would be also appreciated
Thanks for all the answers. To clarify:
I had Google Services Framework 4.0.4-278776
I just installed Google Play Services 8.1.04 (2215451-036) (036) (successfully, as per indications in this post)
I had install Youtube 11.01.70
When I try to run Youtube tells me that there is a newer version and doesn't go further.
This tablet won't run anything past android 4.0.3, at least without some hacks. With hacks this will run with android 5.1, thus allowing the installation of YouTube.
