Automatic sync issues - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Automatic sync gets locked up and never finishes. The sync status icon remains. What I find works, is if only one sync process is going at a time. If more than one, then sync hangs. I tried removing a google account and re-adding it, to no avail. I tried deleting the caches and files for the different apps also. However, based on the discovery that any individual syncs work, as long as they are not concurrent, I think it is not an app or cache or file issue.

Facebook Sync on Sense Roms

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but
Recently ive been trying sense roms and they just haven't been able to sync facebook and my contacts, before sometimes by the time i had finished the setup, my contacts were linked with photos (well most of them) ive tried clearing the data, cache, removing the account and adding it again, leaving it overnight, but nothings happening. Maybe its a problem HTC is having.
Anyone having the same problem?
This is a common problem. You sometimes have to wait up to 6 hours for it to properly sync. I would wait at least 2 hours between trying each fix. Typically fixes have included:
Removing and re-adding your facebook account
Doing the above on 3G (or lower) only
Doing the above on WiFi only
Removing the account, re-installing the facebook app and adding your account through the app rather than the settings menu
ive tried all of that trust me
Then try again. It does work as i've had it broken and working on the same rom. It is just very picky sometimes.
Make sure you're on the latest version of whichever rom your using (would be helpful to know).
Don't do too much at once and be more patient with it. This isn't something you'll fix in a few hours or a day. Try spending a few hours without a facebook account activated at all. Reboot a few times without the facebook app and any account. Let your phone sync everything else for a few hours. Then try adding the facebook account without facebook app installed (don't force a sync) just let it sync in its own time - could take 3 hours or more. After that time try a forced sync. If nothing happens get the facebook app and add your details to that and see if that helps. etc etc. I would probably repeat this process on 3G and on WiFi separately.
Which rom's have you tried? and how long have you had each installed?
ok thanks, i'll try this
i'm using the mmod rom
EDIT: thanks very much, i removed facbeook, rmeoved the account, left it for about two hours, added the account and its working now!

Calendar not syncing with gmail

hey guys,
I've been having a problem with my gmail calendar not syncing, which is very important to me. Not sure if anyone else has this issue. It worked for about 2 weeks then stopped. I still got email, but not sure if my contacts were syncing. I tried the manual sync in Accounts and it said it was synced, but it wasn't. No phone to gmail or gmail to phone on the calendar. I set up a multiple day event (every thursday) and that was when it stopped working.
Anyway, here's how I got it working again. I went into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications, then the ALL tab. First I opened the Calendar Sync Adapter and Clear Data. (That didn't fix it, but I'm not sure if it fixed something else, but this is all the steps I took.) Next was Calendar and Clear Data. (Still no fix). Lastly was Calendar Storage and Clear Data. I'm not sure if the last one was the important one or it was a combination of all three, but that seemed to fix it. I had to re-enter all the events that were originally inputted through my phone so you might want to write those down, but now my phone goes both ways... with gmail... haha. Hope this saves someone some time.
Oh, and I'm stock 2.2.2 not rooted.
What bloat ware have u frozen/uninstalled also you could try force stopping you calender and clearing data and reboot idk if it will do ne thing but its worth a shot
I'm unrooted stock. I haven't frozen or uninstalled any bloatware. I cleared the data and that seemed to do the trick for a day. Now I'm starting to have the same problem again. I haven't rebooted since so I guess I'll try that.

Gmail app sync issues? VZW GS3

Am I the only one having issues with Gmail not picking up new emails? So far, even though I have it configured to automatically sync, I have to manually sync in Gmail to pick up new emails. I have tried dropping and re-adding the Google account, turning off sync and back on, clearing data in the Gmail app, and restarting the phone. I read somewhere that it may have to do with being on Wifi at work, but it doesn't matter if I'm on Wifi or 4g, still the same behaviour. I have a work email account setup through activesync and am having no issues with that. My old phone (Droid 2) would pick up new Gmail emails within seconds. I'm running the root66 stock-based rooted ROM. Any ideas welcome!
Aaaand, it's fixed. I'm honestly not sure what did it. Newish things I tried included fixing permissions, clearing data/cache for Gmail and Google Services Framework, clearing system/dalvik cache. I'm now getting emails within a minute of them being sent, which was what I came to expect on Gingerbread. Who knows? Cheers!

GMail / InboxByGoogle & Calendar not syncing...

Sssooo a few days ago, for no reason at all... Gmail / Inbox and Google-Calendar are no longer syncing.
I don't know WTH the deal is, but I have done everything within my knowledge to try and fix it, with ZERO results.
The weird thing is, EVERYTHING else syncs just fine, without issue or hesitation, every hour on the hour & works fine on manual sync as well.
* I've made NO changes to my ROM, Kernel, tweaks/mods, or anything else... so that's not the culprit.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
# AT&T Note 2
# LiquidSmooth_3.2 (android 4.4.4)
# aGNI_Kernel 4.4.8_r3 (pureCM_11_12+_smdk4x12_ANYROM-AROMA)
THINGS I'VE TRIED TO FIX IT:
# Place phone into airplane mode, remove account, clear all application caches manually, then re-add account, enable data, update apps, re-sync
# same as above, but force stopping everything, wipe cache & clear data, then remove apps, re-enable data & same steps as above
# airplane mode, wiping ALL app caches/data, removing updates & app, reboot to recovery flash gapps package, restart system & re-enable everything again...
# same as above, but removing ALL synced accounts beforehand, then re-adding everything after boot completes.
# screaming at my my phone and threatening it with certain death...
--- Like I said, i have tried everything i can possibly thing of, and EVERYTHING else works just fine... EVERYTHING.. nothing misbehaves in any way, except for Inbox/Gmail & Google-Calendar.
...and since they are not synced... I have lost ALL of my calendar data... ALL of my meetings, work stuff, birthdays, doctor appointments, etc..
I had to go buy a small stationary log-book, to keep track of everything, because my calendar won't sync...
So, If anyone could offer some advice or help, that would be awesome.
try to update ur apps, or remove and again add ur google account, must check that u've checked all checkboxes. Try to change settings from app itself, for example in gmail, go to settings>ur gmail account>data usage, u will find and option there for sync, do what you want. It can help.
@truedude_lpsoldier - I can't... It's not working because sync is broken.
Gmail/inbox won't open.

Problem with Google Contacts sync

My Contacts have been refusing to sync for over a week now; the circular arrows showing the Contacts sync stay visible all the time, and the sync date/time does not update. All my other accounts are working, it's just the Google contacts. I've tried clearing various caches, removing and readding the account, downgrading Play services, reinstalling completely, nothing works. I've never had this problem before. I think it may have something to do with the Play services for Instant apps that was rolled out recently; things started getting wonky around that time. I don't know for sure. I'd rather not have to reflash over this though.
