[Q] Help me choose d855 16Gb or Verizon 32gb 3gb - Verizon LG G3

Hi
I got a D855 and I just realised it is 16gb as I had been really busy lately and I didnot get a chance to explore it. Somehow while purchasing, I forgot that 16gb had 2gb ram.
Now, I have a choice to keep this current D855 2gb ram or get Verizon 32gb with 3Gb. (Verizon is cheaper about 10 quids)
I live in Europe so I would need band 3 as well which many users have successfully unlocked on the verizon. I would be using gsm (NOT CDMA at all) so I suppose it wouldnot matter in signals?
While purchasing, I had d855 in mind due to its LTE bands.
Now I need your suggestions, is it worth gettings 3gb version. Does it really make a difference if i shift to Verizon?
I have 7 days replacement out of which I have used 4 days.
Any suggestions ? What would you guys have done ?

From my knowledge, the 3gb is useful and with the 32gb internal, that's a good combo. I had the 16gb model with 2gb ram, It slowed down a lot because of the screen, that screen consumes a lot of battery and makes the phone kinda slow. So yeah go with the 3gb model. You can get a extended battery from Amazon or eBay, I got an hyperion one, made my phone a battery powerhouse, lasted me more than a day playing games all day but still slows down. Have a good one

Many thanks for your suggestions mate. Very much appreciated. However, how about signal strength on GSM if you have any idea about it ?
Is Marshmallow for Verizon here yet ?
My battery stamp date is 2015.12.18
Does that mean it was made on that date or something else?

Hey friend! Hope things are going well for you.
No, no Marshmallow yet for Verizon. Afraid I don't know anything about GSM usage. Good luck with your choice!
Although yes, I'd definitely choose 32 over 16GB, and 3 over 2GB, I might be tempted to be lazy and to just go with what definitely works without any extra hassle (i.e. keeping your D855), but that's just me at least lately.
I'm sure it means that your battery was made 12/18/2015.

Hello mate
I am well and I hope the same for you. Many thanks for your kind wishes as always. Highly appreciated. I haven't been active here much due to lots of clinical workload lately ,however, I think Verizon one would give me more reasons to be in contact with you apart from the obvious advantages you mentioned.
About vk810, invisiblek is still working on it and updating device tree regularly but we still have to see a build for Cm13 from him on his website.
Many thanks mate once again. Your insight is always helpful.

Is sg3 wprth it ?

Hey guyz.
I have a galaxy nexus right now and i really like it after changing from an iphone to an android,i wont go back to ios again !
i have 2 problems with my current galaxy nexus 1:Battery 2:storage
My question is: is the new galaxy s 3 worth to buy ?
and what do you recommend me to get a 16 gb or a 32gb if yuo think i should get it.
will there be any dev that are gonna wow us in the gs3 ?
i dont see an upgrade is necessary if you have gnexus, but still if you need more storage space and battery may be you can go for sgs3.
The devs will surely wow as in the coming months
16gb on the S3 will be for me fine and I am also getting a 32gb card with the phone to expand it. My current S1 has 8gb + 8gb expansion and I still haven't filled both cards but I suppose it all depends on what you want to have on it
i am trying to figure out the exact same thing. i am sure i will buy it, but i think it would be more responsible of me to wait and see what the devs can come up with for my i777.
32gb
I think that 32 gb is the best bet for me but I don't know why I can't wait for it although my gnexus is doing its job but I guess the quad core is the main reason why .
Sell your gnex before it losses its value. It's resale value is taking a nose dive.

If you haven't yet rooted it, using a custom kernel like trinity can do wonders for your battery life.
Storage obviously can't help with

The storage issue on s3 is mitigated by sd cards, but I would still recommend 32gb in case you want to download large apps.
I've just pre-ordered an S3. My provider is only selling the 16gb version (o2 in the UK), so I'm going to put a class 10 64gb microSD in it. This is plenty enough for me.
I'm counting down the days til the end of the month now, and hoping that the clever folk of XDA get some nice custom ROMs and kernels out soon!
it is rooted !
My gnexus is rooted and I am using a trinity kernal the battery is getting better with updates but its nothing compared to gnote that my friend has . I really wanna win the battery life hopefully with the new gs3 !
But I still don't think that 2100 will do the work for a quad core device unless it is stable and rooted
And by the way guys where can I pre order a sim free gs3 in Ireland ? I study there ?
Thanks you for your co op

Well, you can't seriously expect it to compete with a 2500 battery.
The S3's 2100 will no doubt make it more even. The notion that quad core uses more is (kinda) a myth, depending on how well it's designed.
waiting
Well I hope so cause my expectations for gs3 is high and I can barely wait for it .
Hehe

[Q] Worthy replacement for Rezound? Keep unlimited data?

Hi all, I'm looking for a new phone to replace my Rezound. The Rez has been a great phone with CM10.1 installed, does everything I need and fairly quick too.
Here are my main criteria for selecting a new device (in order of importance):
Ability to keep my unlimited data plan, I'd rather not interact with VZW at all.
CM11 support with working camera/corder, navigation, and wifi tethering
Easy reliable root/s-off process
Excellent camera hardware. SGS5's kinda sucks, One M8 not bad, and we can't use LG GPro2 on VZW.
Excellent battery life, or option for extended battery. (With my usage habits I can get >52 hours from of my Rezound's extended batt and Kernel Tuner)
>32GB storage, prefferrably removable SDcard
As for keeping my data plan, I hope all I have to do is buy a phone from a 3rd party, swap in my SIM and continue life as normal. I know the current phones now use the mini-SIM or whatever, and that a normal SIM can be trimmed to fit. Will this work or do I have no choice but to involve VZW in the upgrade?
Thanks!
M8
The LG G2 is a good phone and it's battery will far surpass just about anything else out there, you can snag one for about $250-$300 on Swappa.com. It will meet most of your requirements.
If money isn't really a problem, I would wait and get the LG G3 and buy it outright.
As far as the SIM goes, just get a cheap cutter on Amazon or eBay, they work fine... even if you mess it up just take it in to a Verizon store and they will give you new one.

You would likely be happy with either the G2, M8, or the G3... it is only a matter of time before the G3 is "broke" and ROMs will flood it, it's a flagship device with premium hardware and capabilities so devs will flock to it. We don't have an M8, either at home or work (odd, since we have over 60 cell phones at work), so I can't speak directly to it's battery life or capabilities but the people with M7s sure like them.
On a side note, it is interesting that Verizon is not preloading the G3 with Bloatware, it is downloaded and installed during the setup process (data free), and most can be uninstalled. Interesting change of "business as usual" for Verizon...
M8 is amazing! :good: I personally love it. Has a great battery life for me. I've pulled a good 6 hours SoT before, with an average of 5-5:30 hours of SoT. May not match the G2 or G3 but for a person who loves sense 5/6 (6 is stock) it's amazing!! :good:

Actually its not too far off. Max Ive pulled was a smidgen less than 7hrs. My take on the M8 G2 or G3 debackle;
M8 if you like Sense and if custom romming dont mind a small bug or six.
G2 if you're into custom roms and don't mind a bug here and there before getting corrected(stock rom is still great).
G3 if you're more into a probability of not getting custom roms(stock would be ok with you) but getting better hardware to surpass both.

Surprisingly M8 ROMs are getting bugs ironed out. Thank god I wasn't around during the encryption bug lol. The biggest bug right now is speakerphone not working right. As for the G3 it has the 801 and 3GB of RAM right? To me that's almost overkill... Isn't a 801 and 2GB enough but the camera. G3 has an awesome camera though. If I didn't like sense (I personally love it) I would have definitely gotten the G3. Hands down.

New Mate 2 Variant at Walmart - $249.00

I was at the local Wallyworld today and they had a new display of Unlocked phones for sale. They didn't have the actual phones on display, but a card that you take to the Electronics desk to get the product. What caught my eye was a phone called "Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Slim". The specs on the card look exactly the same as my Mate 2 that I got on Amazon. The only thing that may have been different was a smaller battery (can't remember if it was noted on the package). The phone is not yet listed on the Walmart.com website. Anyone else see this?? Differences between this phone and the Mate 2? Looks like prices are falling, due to no Kit Kat or Lollipop updates???????

Not quite the same specs. I think that says it only has 8GB of memory.
Next time I am at the store I will get more info. Now that Lollipop is confirmed for our phones, these may sell very well!
New Info
I took a second pic of the info card at Walmart. Other than 8 vs 16 MB memory, and maybe a slightly smaller battery it looks the same at the Mate 2. I didn't see the phone itself. For $249 it looks like a good deal.

Interesting. I dont think it needs to be any slimmer, but if it has a microsd port still, thats a great deal. Thats still amazing battery life.

The battery is the same as the open market HAM2 and it does only have 8GB internal storage. Also, it DOES have the microSD slot. Basically it is the same phone without the 16GB internal storage. Fabulous deal....especially with the announcement of Android L coming first half next year.

I actually just bought this variant, and love it so far. It's almost exactly like my note 2 that died on me awhile back.... Loved the note 2. Unfortunately I can't afford another, nor the note 4 so I figured "It has almost the same specs, I'll give it a whirl" since walmart has the 15 day return policy, so far I'm satisfied and almost love it as much as the Note 2. The bootloader unlock method found on here works as well (Emailed Huawei for the code) Now trying to find an easy way of rooting and looking for TWRP.

Thanks very much! You guys have a bit of a different structure for where your threads go than over at the Note 2 palace as I like to call it. Not going to lie, I miss my baby, but maybe this phone will finally be the motivation that I need to start making my own custom roms for phones, considering development for this doesn't seem a 100% go so far like it is over on the note 2 area. Or at least I haven't noticed yet.

I just noticed in those images it has a different firmware version. the latest update for the Mate 2 is b148 and it looks like the slim is running b146. I doubt there is any notable difference between the 2 but worth pointing out. It baffles me why release a new version when they were not planning to update the phone at all until all of us that purchased the phone caused them to reconsider and give us lollipop
Do you see in the system prpoerties that it list the phone as having 8gb of Phone Storage and not 16gb. Mine has always said 16gb before and after rooting. I have the cc version.

G2 in 2017

All discussions about buying new phone or advise not to upgrade goes in this thread.
Personally, I wouldn't mind keeping the G2 but I will need to replace the battery on mine if I shall keep using it. Normal since I've had the phone for 2 years now.
I got the phone for almost 3 years now, never changed the battery - always charging with LG's charger and having nice battery life [CM and Stock, whatever you prefer]
I don't see any good reason to move on, nothing has dramatically changed yet. Fingerprint? Wireless charging?
So I think we can stick to our good old G2 for a bit more...
My G2 has 3 years already and is perfect. I picked it up already used and still have nice battery life, around 5 to 7 hours of SOT. I'm on my second G2, this one with 32GB of internal memory and I don't see any good reason to spend a lot of money that I don't have on a new device that doesn't add that much. I plan to keep my G2 for like one year or more. Don't really feel changing it anytime soon.
Would be nice to have a really functionality MM rom. I tested most roms, but the camera and sound are bad. The smoothness of the custom Roms are very good. So what to do? I think the Rom development stocks. I have to stay on stock Rom to have all working fine. But in future I see apps not working or very laggy working with the "old" LP Rom. So my experience in the past with my tab.

3 years here too. Not gonna make it much longer, the digitizer is going bad on the bottom left. Looking at the Pixel, but want to wait to make sure there are no manufacturing issues (like exploding) before I take the plunge. I have a Nexus 9, I'm not too confident in HTC's build quality after the problems I've had with it.

Same thought.
I have g2 from 1 year. I have the 16 gb variant. I must tell that maybe i need less lags, a microsd slot and a lot of more battery... But i must keep it for another year, i can't change it.
I'm thinking in get another phone just because 16gb isn't enough anymore.
If I could find some hack to expand this 16gb internal storage, I would do it.

Too bad Dorimanx and others already quit g2 developement and not much new developers
Second G2 here, the 32GB variety, I swapped out my first G2(16Gb) to the G3 hoping for all that upgrade coolness - nope, then the OnePlus1 - cheaper than the G3 etc, but the size started to bother me. So, I went back to the G2, I still have the 16GB first one which was battered close to death by my resident teenager so I picked up the second one very cheaply and would not swap it for anything. To my eyes and hands nothing made after it looks or handles much better, the G2 still has one of the best screen-to-size ratios - my favourite thing about it! I'm Running OrionOS MM, getting up to 5 hours screen time, LGCamera from the Playstore does a fair job of replacing the stock one, it even does 1080p @ 60fps. Of late the headphone socket has started acting up a bit .. off to Ebay for another 32Gb model, don't mind if I do!

No Oneplus 3 yet, I have this phone:
- G2 D802(32gb) bought new since 2013 I think
- G Pro2 32gb F350L, this device just similar to G2 but 5.9 inch screen, 3gb ram+sd card and much better sound from my experience.
- Htc one M8 32gb, this phone screen/speaker is good and performance is all right and reliable.
I have ordered Lg G4 (F500) it's coming in few days, so I will try it.
They are not new devices but with root and custom rom they still work quite good for me.
I think now you can get really good phone for $250-$400 with Xiaomi Mi5/5s, LeEco Pro2/3, Zuk Z2/Pro, Oneplus 3, Lg G5 so many choices. For speed I seen reviews Oneplus 3 is top dog, with new Huawei Honor8 5.2inch is good too if you like small phone.
For good multimedia/audio experience maybe Lenovo Vibe X3 cost less than ZTE Axzon 7 in my opinion.

I just love my g2. Is there anything in the market similar ? After three years the main problems for me are scratched rear camera. Bluetooth needing reboots to work. And finally the constant need after rebooting to enter a code to change to 4g. Won't be changing it any time soon.

Sounds like custom ROM problems. Try sticking to LG based ROMs - if you already are, then try an LG kitkat ROM. 4.4 has always worked best for me.

The Le Max 2 has more RAM, a much faster SoC, better camera, better display. For $250 it's a no brainer, and it's gonna be a massive upgrade over the Redmi Note 3 Pro.

Honestly don't think the extra RAM will make any difference. Never come close to not having enough RAM with 4GB. But it's worth the extra spend just to get 64GB storage instead of 32GB.
People keep talking about the lack of 3.5 mm. The phone comes with a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter and it outputs great sound, so what is the issue?

Fully agreed. 4GB will be enough even after 1 year from now, but 32GB will not be if you store videos/music on the phone. 4GB/64GB is the best option in my opinion, regardless of brand/phone.
And if you are willing to wait enough, maybe you can get Pro3 for this amount. The 0.2" for the smaller screen make it much easier to handle (I've had 1s before Le Max2), the build quality seems better as per the reviews and the gold (closer to true gold) color is easier to get, same as the rose gold for the Le Max2. When I bought it (a month after release), the grey option was quite hard to find, and a few months later, the price dropped to ~250$ while I've paid 400$ for it.
I upgraded from Redmi Note 3 Pro to Le Max 2. I agree with most of what others wrote.
Le Max 2 is such a high quality device. Got 4Gb Ram version and am so happy with my decision. Using CN stock rom and it works so good that I don't have any intention to flash custom Roms or enabling root access. It's that good of a device for my needs. In all aspects and functions I use daily.
Hope I helped. Cheers
I would not swap. Simply because of software. I am really angry at myself for jumping the gun on this phone really early without knowing how the software will be like. the official firmware lacks and all custom firmware doesnt support all of the nice hardware the phone has.
If I could decide today, I would not buy it again.
Would like to know what the issues are that people have with the eui software. Almost every reviewer seems to slate it without giving any concrete examples of what they find so wrong with it other than "There's no app drawer" or "It has a useless live TV button" or "The quick settings have been moved to the multitasking tray at the bottom". Well, the first two are just related to the stock launcher. If you don't like that, it takes about three seconds to install a launcher more to your liking. Not an issue worth complaining about. As for the quick settings being in a different place, frankly who gives a damn. It takes a day or two to get used to and then you can get on with using it pretty much exactly the same as ever.
I also don't understand why people complain. The software is mature an everything works stable every day of use 24/7.
I respect those that prefer different ROMs and yet coming from other phones - Nubia z7 mini, Redmi Note 3 Pro - I got tired of flashing, modding and meddling with my phone.
As it is right now - LeMax 2 is the best phone for the money. All those worldwide working band frequencies, amazing display, ultra fast storage, memory and CPU/GPU, stellar sound quality and two satisfactory cameras.
If you want to throw money for a device that will perform mostly the same functions for more money - then go away and do it. This is a Smartphone and its primary function is to perform phonecalls so every other function you get should be considered a bonus.
Buy more expensive brands and pay for their marketing campaigns included in the price. All top brand phones cost around 160 USD to mass produce. Why pay more for a thing that will become "old" in 6 months or less?
I bought it to do phonecalls and the hardware and software performance is excellent. No letdowns whatsoever.
Need a camera - buy a dedicated one, need better software - build your own ROM etc.
OP asked if this would be a good trade from a lower tier device and it definitely would be a step up in every way.
I know as I sold RMN3 Pro to get Le X2.
