Why can't I install an .apk via TWRP - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to understand why I can't install an .apk via TWRP.
My WiFi does not work, and I don't have a file browser installed so I have no way to browse to the APK I've copied to the SDCard within the OS.
Why can't I simply use TWRP to install an .apk? / How can I install a file browser onto a rooted device when it has no network or wifi connection?

[HELP] I deleted my OS on my Live. How do I transfer zip file?

I made the biggest stupidity. I deleted my rom, using twrp recovery. I deleted sd card as well, I wanted to do a new flash but now I'm stuck. I have lupus jb kernel installed on my lww. I know there is a way to transfer zip files via sideload and then installing them. But I'm using a Mac. What can I do? Don't tell me to use windows, i have it installed on a virtual machine but i can't use internet. So please, I read some guides but are to difficult I already downloaded Android SDK for mac but I can't get to run adb commands.
I need your help, how can I transfer my rom zip file to sd card using this twrp recovery?? I'm a noob when it comes to use adb and stuff so please help me.
PD. I also can't activate usb debugging, because I have nothing installed on my phone, except the lupus kernel.
Nevermind, I solved it. TWRP is AWESOME! Just entered recovery, mount usb and I was able to put the zip file in sd card.

There should be adb (and the android sdk) for mac, too
You could have installed it and sideload the zip. But mounting it was well, too :good:

[Q] Need Help

Hello, today I finally rooted my sgh-t989d samsung galaxy and I was trying to install new themes. I found the theme Blue Fire, so I downloaded it and it's a .apk file. But I was just wondering, how do I get the .apk file on to my phone? I've tried searching it, and I usually get a download that shows a command prompt, but it never actually gets the .apk onto my phone. Any help please?
You can install the apk file using adb install (adb is included in the android sdk, usb debugging have to be enabled on the phone) or you just copy the file to the device and install it using any file manager (e.g. root browser).
Maybe you have to enable the installation of apk files from unknown sources in the settings.

[Q] How do I install an apk without a file manager?

Installed a rom without a web browser or file manager. Has a modded CWM which only allows installation of .zips. Can an apk be installed through CWM?
edit: also no Gapps (what I'm trying to install)

Alternate method of installing GAPPS without TWRP?

If you boot into the stock recovery it gives you the option to "install update.zip to System." Would it be possible to rename the Google Apps package update.zip and install with the stock recovery?
No, the gapps hasn't the needed sign.
You can flash play store without a custom recovery, you need root however.
Grab es file explorer apk from somewhere, install. Give it root permissions through security app, open es file explorer, turn on the root browser option.
Copy this file to /system/priv-app/
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0tq0BySLo6sclZkTEhEWXV0YW8/view?usp=docslist_api
Set permissions to the same as everything else in that folder. ( just look at another apk properties in that folder , then set the one you just copied there likewise)
Restart your phone. Boom you have play store.
There's an app called Google installer. You can find it over at xiaomi forum. It installs all google play service store and all needed framework

How to use flashify to flash the recent updates under downloaded_rom folder?

1. My Redmi 5 Plus/Redmi Note 5 India is rooted, using TWRP and Magisk
2. I would like to know if there is a way that recent updates under downloaded_ROM can be flashed using a third party application such as Flashify?
3. I have come to this decision because when I tried to reboot device for installing recently updates, my device enters the TWRP recovery only find nothing in there, which is annoying. Root cause for this mess is that Xiaomi's fastboot rom downloads page is download, which would usually be my go to method after all. Using Mi Flash Tool, and then a few command types re-root the recently updated mobile phone.
Please guide me!
If I understood well if twrp it´s not recognicing (not really, only it can´t access) your data partition you need to format data at first time after to unlock and install a custom recovery in order that twrp can access to your storage directory.
Flashify just is capable to install boot and recovery images. Maybe you meant FlashFire, then to install it tap on + button and a menu will display with some options like Flash ZIP or OTA.

you're right, brother. I meant FlashFire, when I typed Flashfire. My bad.
I have the OTA downloaded from the official website, since the file I had in the downloaded ROM folder always returned an error as corrupt file when tried to open using Winrar. So I had to go the official site and get the same downloaded to see the contents inside.
But now, having copied the file to the downloaded ROM folder on my phone, I do not see any option as how I can choose the file to get installed. I mean there is no file explorer option given to me, rather Google Drive option. Perhaps I have to have the file uploaded once again on to my Google Drive on my device?

Download again the file from the same site, maybe downloaded to your Google Drive is corrupted and check that the extension didn´t change from .zip to .rar or FlashFire won´t recognice it. Winrar have to be capable to open it otherway the file is corrupted.
When you are sure that is the correct file If you had a stock recovery then you can install it through update option in settings/about device/updates from miui menu
