Push Notifications Issue - Honor 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

New to this phone and getting frustrated over delayed push notifications, at times not even delayed as notifications don't come through at all.
Having problems with notifications in the following apps; instagram, facebook, gmail, huawei's own email app, whatsapp, viber. Unless the apps are running in the background, in the recent apps tray to be precise the notifications come instantly, however, if the screen is off and the apps are closed from the recent apps tray NO NOTIFICATIONS COME. Also, you have no clue you have got notifications unless you open the app, this also indicates that Auto Sync function which is enabled in the settings doesn't work at all.
This is very annoying, Is there a possible workaround for it or any upcoming update from Huawei which should address this issue?
Please if anyone has any solution post your replies and I do not want any suggestions which are based on rooting the device.
Thanks.

I had this very same problem and it disappeared when I installed firmware version b170.
Which version are you running?

Oh really? I don't know what you mean by firmware but if you're talking about Build number then its b130. How did you get b170? I also want it to solve my problem.

It still sometimes occurs sadly but very rarely. Also you have to keep apps running after turning off the screen and you can't kill the apps in the phone manager. I'm on B170

It's all in the system settings. You can set the app to keep running in the background with the screen off.

Yes, I'm talking about the build number. I updated manually to b170 from this thread:

Thank you so much for the link. I do not want to update it manually rather want to wait for Huawei to come up with an official update, I heard they might be releasing it sometime in February, is that true? In my region B130 is the latest firmware out.
Is there any other solution to this notification sync issue while staying on b130?

You are talking about "Protected Apps" feature right? I have tried that out, it doesn't help. As soon as the screen is off and phone goes idle the notifications sync process stops immediately.

So what is the difference really? If it still turns out to be that you need to keep the apps running in order for them to stay alive whilst the screen is off what's the point to update to b170? The problem is still there, if you are talking about keeping apps in the recent apps tray that you can do in b130 too and the problem solves.
The whole point is for apps to sync even if they are not running in the background + if the screen is off.

Nonono, what I meant is I can wipe the recent apps. But they have to be able to run in the background when the screen is off (check that in the phone manager) and also I can't kill them in the Setting-->app settings --> running apps

GCM Wake up doesnt post notifications[5.1]

Well, i have observed it with Facebook Messenger and Viber, should be the same issue with other greenified applications
The GCM push works fine, but the problem is, that the notification won't be visible till i actually open or unlock my screen
That said, i can see that the application has been woken by a push( seconds or minutes before i get the notification) but you can't see it till you actually open the phone so the application opens in foreground.
I am almost definitely sure this used to work at KitKat normally
I have tested this using Greenify beta(the latest) with the xposed-alpha 14-05 on OnePlus One

I can confirm this too! @oasisfeng you should definitely look into this issue.I've tried it on my two devices running 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 respectively. The notification doesn't come through until I wakeup the screen. The app is waken up but the notification doesn't arrive until I turn on the screen.
Removing the app from greenified list fixes the issue.

Well sometimes, after a random amount of time it may appear.. But the randomness is what troubles me as well..
@oasisfeng Can confirm this. Unless I turn on the screen manually, I don't hear the notification chime. And yes, it did work fine in KitKat.
Have same issue, no notification with Facebook and Messenger.
I get the when screen turns on, but not instantly...after a while.
Any fix?

Same here, but also without greenify. I switched to a new ROM and phone. So perhaps it is ROM related.

Hi again, I have managed to get it work again. I degreenified all apps, deselected everything under experimentally features. After a reboot I ticked off my normal feature set. And voila I'm getting gcm messages again! I guess I messed something up by using titanium...
BTW I'm using cm 12.1 optimized on a S4

Can you be more precise in what you've done?
For now I've made an app with Tasker that closes Facebook and Messenger and then Greenify all my app list and then locks system, so to not put Facebook and Messenger on Greenify and have push messages, but don't constantly have them on Active Apps last if used.
If you want I can share it.

OK. I'll try to explain a bit more precisely.
My issue was, that e.g. whatsapp does not receive messages while greenified. I had to start it manually to see if I got new messages.
This started a few days ago with my new phone. Before the new phone I had no problems with greenify in combination with cm12.1.
Here my steps:
1. Remove all Apps from greenify
2. Remove all options from experimental features
3. Restart the phone
4. Select all apps that I want to greenify
5. Reselect my normal options under experimental options.
That's it
Regards
Unfortunately this didn't work for me. But I tried something else that might be helpful. I use Amplify and decided to disable it temporarily to see if I received the GCM push and the notifications, and yes, it did work flawlessly. I might have stopped a wakelock or a service being of google that might be helpful in this.

Well, it didn't help much. I tried flashing all the ROMs available for S3 and it works, partially, in the latest BlissPop. The thing is that GCM push gets received instantaneously but the notification doesn't get posted. It does though, like after 30 mins or so. But never soon enough.
any news why GCM doesnt work proberly anymore with some apps like WhatsApp ? It used to work so i wonder if this a ROM, App, Xposed or Greenify problem.
About 6-8 weeks ago i had this working with CM12.1 on a GT-I9505 (Galaxy S4) with at that time actual apps, modules and ROM.

Mediapad X1 Apps going to sleep in the background

Got a Mediapad X1 and it has its own memory manager apparently. There's a power manager app that lets you "Protect" apps from being killed in the background when the screen is off. (I though we we're finally over using task killers, come on Huawei), anyways. Some of the apps like Google Hangouts will still stop showing notifications after a while when the screen is off even thought it is listed as a protected app.
What's going on here? Just seems like the Protected App thing doesn't seem to work for everything. You certainly don't want texting app going to sleep.
Same here
I also see the same issue on my mediapad (unlocked, no contract, imported from Thailand): notifications are not being pushed to the interface by Skype, Telegram, Hangouts, and even some games that I receive regular announcements when running on my phone.
I checked the protected apps section and the notifications center sections, the apps are allowed in both.

I am on the latest B011 and I am also experiencing the same issues. Google auto sync is very erratic, Gmail does not auto sync most of the time. Weather / calendar widgets do no refresh. I updated to official B011 recently before that I was on beta kit kat 320 dpi emui 2.3 and was happy. Any ideas what is happening?

Damn, I was hoping B011 would fix it. It's just a bad memory manager. Huawei decided to use a built in task killer to stop all apps that aren't "Protected" from running in the background.

Problem with push notifications

I searched XDA, Google and the official site of LeEco. I have found similar problems with push notification(Whatsapp, Email.) But no direct solution for the leEco max 2.
I've tried different roms, chinese and india, because of the EUI layout that i like.
I tried all the settings that are mentioned: Priority notification on, no battery saving, no clearing of tasks, installing Push notification fixer, reinstalled from scratch, and now on stock indian 5.8.19S.
But still no push notification when the phone is in sleep mode. After 30 minutes no use. Only after manualy activation of the phone.:crying:
Has anybody a solution for the EUI Rom? Or is the only option to try CM on the phone?
I appreciate all the help. Big Thanx in advance.:fingers-crossed:
In addition to what you have mentioned, you should put these apps in auto launch mode+app protection from phone manager.
Make sure that you have also enabled auto-sync data from account management.
Whatsapp and messenger notifications are working fine with these settings on indian rom 19s. However, I faced problems with Gmail notifications in other customs roms.
Autolaunch and app protection usually solves it

The Enable background resource control in the hidden menu.........I switched it off............no problem anymore for me with notifications. Whatsapp, Gmail, etc..... @sdevaux Thanx for the useful tip. @lukam01 and @anameeeen for helping out
This looks like a global sync issue that I've been trying to solve for almost a month now. Coming from the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, I've been experiencing the same exact auto sync problems on both the Note Pro, and the Le Max 2. Gmail and Yahoo mail (or any other email client that I've tried) won't sync and give notifications unless I open the apps manually and refresh. I tried pretty much everything I could find on the internet to no success. Whatsapp works most of the time, but every once in a while it start's doing the same.
Power management is off, the apps involved have all the required permissions, they're set to auto launch, global sync is enabled (tried turning it off and on again to no effect), and of course, sync is also enabled in each individual app. Background resource control is off (hidden menu).
I have removed my accounts from both devices countless times, cleared the cache, data, uninstalled/reinstalled the apps, re-added the accounts individually...
I don't know what's going on, but I'm talking about 2 different devices and 2-3 different roms on both (the devices were set up as new every single time, not restored with Ti Backup), so I'm pretty sure it's a global issue.
Same issues here. In addition, some apps just plain don't work if the phone is asleep. I prefer using Google Clock for my alarms, and textra for my text messages. However, if the phone is asleep, the alarm will NEVER sound and I will NOT get text messages. I'm not just talking about not getting notifications for text messages, I'm talking that if someone sends me a text message I will not EVER get it. They only way to fix is to use the STOCK clock and text apps. Crazy.

Yes, but this did NOT help fix the Google Clock app. I have read other threads with people having the same issue with some google apps. The theory seems to be that perhaps the way gapps is added by LeEco into their roms breaks something having to do with notification system.
Maybe try an indian base rom, like Revolution 19s. Inadian roms have google apps natively installed

But I believe the Indian Roms also encrypt your phone by default, CN roms don't. Don't want any encryption slowing down my phone.
Stock Indian roms encrypt data, but in revolution version the encrypition is removed by rom developer

It's a Rom issue. Works perfect for me with Mokee
can you guys confirm that in mokee and cuoco all notifications work well. i tried everything from forums and this thread, whatsapp is fixed, but i simply cant force gmail notifications to come properly. huge disappointment in this phone because of it. so i just want this to work with stable custom rom and that camera works as in stock rom...any recommendations?thanks
anyone,please?
Use lucky patcher and move your Gmail/inbox to system app. Works for me.
I have same issue after a while notifications stop to work, resetting Google play services helps but issue occurs after few hours again. Trying to install different versions to see if it helps. For now also stopped Android Wear...

Make apps can launch automatically, work for me

Mate 10 Pro keeps shutting down VPN client - regardless of settings

Hi
I am trying to run NordVPN on my Mate 10 Pro.
The client is being disabled automatically even if I have changed the system settings to allow the app to run. I see the same behavior in LastPass which I also want to run in the background continuously. Actually for LastPass it also changes the system settings and disable automatic app fill. So I need to enable this once per day. Quite annoying.
Any idea? It seems very odd that a VPN application is forced to be shut down. I have never experienced this with my OnePlus 3t.
Best Regards

I do no use Nord recently but last pass i use as well. There is lastpass beta (in Google play) with oreo support and it runs well.
Just make sure it is manual in battery section in settings.

Strage - That dont work at all for me. Regardless of settings this app seems not to be running when I "close" the program.
Ok. I have checked my Lastpass beta settings and I remember that I found it hard to keep ok when screen was off. There is a couple settings You need to change and do it from phone settings rather than lastpass settings (it did not work for me from lastpass settings).
1. Battery->Launch-> change last pass to manual and keep all three options on )auto-launch, secondary launch, run in background)
2. system->Accessibility-> change lastpass to ON
3. No go to Lastpass and Fill logins in other apps (Android Oreo) should be switched ON. I have checked other available options as well and it works well for me.
I'm running LastPass beta premium. But it should not matter.
I switched off NordVPN now and just start the app when leaving house so can't help You much with it.
All the best. Sieluck
My NordVPN is running and running... Have you made sure you put the lock to the app in the "recent apps"?

notification issues.

For anyone experiencing notification issues.
I was. None were coming through when they were sent. I changed push notification delay. I tried near everything
(Not coming through you have turned on notifications turn off power saving etc for the app)
If you have root and are able to freeze applications ( I have used titanium backup) to freeze the security app. All my notifications are coming though properly now.
I saw on a website someone that changed the security app so I thought why not freeze it. It works .
Still have access to permissions etc.
The only thing to remember is to keep them in memory. If you close the app you will have to reopen it manually.
I'm on ZUI 11
Not root case
If you don't have root, you can turn off battery optimization in settings for the apps you want, them put them on "autostart" in the security app and just minimize the apps
It's not a good solution, since you can't close fully the apps, but at least you will have notifications

Yes, it's not good, that's why I'm trying a custom rom now
But for those who are afraid to root/install a custom, it's what they have (notificon also helps, but have to pass through the same steps)

Just bought lenovo z5 pro 64gb. I have same problem with whatsapp and other user app notifications. Im on ZUI 11. 1.093 ST.
Im finally found a way to make whatsapp and other user app to make a sound when message coming.
Just install Missed Notifications Reminder from play store. After installation complete, just give permission access for this app to run. Next, you can set reminder for as low as 0.1 minutes ( fastest option and its fast enough ) and set reminder repetitions, i set for 2x repetition. Then finally you can select what application do you want to be reminded (any app on your phone).
Now, when new notification come, my phone will make sound
For those who still use the stock china zui, the notification bug still occurs?
yes i still have notification issues sometimes with whatsapp even though i went through all the settings in the security app and battery optimization.even installed missed notifications reminder which helped a little but not always.
im using the latest zui rom 11.5.247.things worked much better on 10.5
