No phone (phone radio) on LTE SGP771 (bought in Taiwan) - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a SGP771 (32GB LTE version) with keyboard in Taiwan and I am generally very happy with it. LTE works great (on Bell Canada) with data and I also can send/receive text. However, I am not able to do voice calls (except VOIP) with the SGP771.
Using the "phone status" app indicates that there is "no phone radio". I am assuming that this function was disabled for the Asian market. Is there any way to enable this function?

is it in the specs?
just my guess:
For phone functionality you also need GSM as a fallback or a provider that supports voice over LTE (starting in Europe with few).
If I remember the specs correctly (DL them from Sony developer site) the LTE in the tablet is only for data.
That is why I bought the wifi-version and tether via my phone. Also one contract less to manage.

Hi
You can make voice call with the SGP771
http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz4tablet/userguide/Making-calls/
I not use myself because my contract with my provider is only for data and i don't have an other nanosim card to test
But you can make emergency call with or without a sim card

try to go to parameters ->More ->Providers and find your providers
Modify your APN providers if necessary.

OK I stand corrected by killdozer56
my only ideas now: try another phone app or flash a ROM for another region
I can use CSIPsimple for voip callls but that is not what sun4energy intended in his first post.

Hi there,
Thanks for all your suggestion. I have tried several phone apps and other things, however without luck.
With my rom version (Korea) of the SGP771 voice calls are definitely not possible, as this function seems to be disabled. I have checked the Service info on the tablet. It's telling me that I am a "global_novoice_user" with "Current Modem Config: /system/etc/customization/modem/amss_fsg_karin_korea_novoice_tar.mbn" etc. (see below).
Seems that I have to flash with a new rom in order to be able to make voice calls. Any suggestions for a "good rom"? What are my chances? What are my risks?

You can flash a stock rom from sony for another country. Donwload flashtool and xperifirm to view the different rom version and country

Does anyone know which models are capable of making phone calls out of the box? Will be using it on t mobile usa.

Hi Alex
You say your phone is unlocked... what Rom is installed? If you search on here for GPS related problems you should be able to find a solution. Hopefully it will be something as simple as flashing the correct radio for your region (look here first>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339047)
Let us know how you get on :good:
I'm using the factory ROM
Dear barry_,
Hello,
I'm using the factory default ROM. Is needed to change my Original ROM? I buy my Atrig $G, in about 1 Month. so I'm confused that what is the solution. Some peoples have this problem in this link:
{H-TT-P:-/-/}androidforums[dot]com/atrix-4g-support-troubleshooting/401171-gps-function-wasted-after-2-3-4-update.html#post3112766
Please guide me in right way.
(Best regards)
Alex,
What is your location? You need to find what radio your Atrix has installed by going to settings>.about phone and look at baseband. You need to make a note of which baseband (radio) is listed and then do a search for what radio you should have because of your location.
If you need another radio go here > http://atrix.samcripp.com/#0 , where you will find a full list of radios. If you need help installing your region specific radio just ask on here.
Also, go to google play store and install 'GPS STATUS- TEST & FIX (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cochibo.gpsstatus&hl=en)
radio software? in related to current location!
Dear barry_,
Hello,
Thanks for your support.
I have a question, as I use Motorola's original ROM(never flashed and few months that I buy this new Atrix4G), as I need to install 'different radio' too? where can I find new radio software?

[Q] Set preferred network type unknown

Dear all
I have just received an Android phone from china. The commercial model F1658
The phone model is KYX-909 and the build number is C909-KYX-F1658_EN_V03
The phone on the web is showing as an android 2.3 and also 4.0. I have received the 4.0 version however the GSM part does not work. No carrier can be recognized and the problem is not on the SIM card.
I have rooted the phone, installed windows drivers and also the ROM manager. Based on the information I have read, the problem might be on the baseband and might be related to the OS upgrade from the vendor.
Is there anything I can do to fix the baseband?
Do anyone have a proper OS image I can dump into the phone? WIll it fix the problem?
Thanks and Regards
Alejandro

[Q] s3 update confusion

I turned my phone on yestetday lunchtime (4/7/2013) and once it had booted I had an onscreen message sayong that an update had download and was ready to install. I chose the "later" option, went to settings>about device>software update, and it said the same thing. I installed it, thinking it might be JB 4.2.2, but once it had installed there was nothing different about my phone and it is still running 4.1.2. When ever I search for it I keep getting french and greek websites, the fact that I cant find an english site or explanation is rather unnerving.
I am running an un rooted S3, from U.K t-mobile.

I posted this is the wrong section earlier, so am re posting it here. In the other thread someone said it sounds like the latest update for my phone/carrier, bit there is absolutely nothing new after installing this.
Samsung release many updates based on Android 4.1.2
Most updates do not change the Android Version. They change the Samsung Build number. You have been updated to XXEMF1, which is an update from June. Most updates don't introduce new features. They introduce bug fixes. Samsung tend to introduce new features when they introduce new Android versions, to keep them in line.
It's normal, basically it's just small bug fix and patch, only between android version update, like 4.0 to 4.1, or 4.1 to 4.2 you may see the significantly difference. Besides Samsung never gives changelog so only thing you can do is figure out yourself or reading other's comments, but something it's gonna be like, " oh, the dialer open up is 0.1 second faster than previous version " or somewhere translation has been updated... blah blah blah

Apologies for hijacking your post OP.
I just bought a samsung s3 from someone and its the NON LTE version (GT-I9300) and its android version 4.1.2
Baseband Ver is I9300BVEMF1 and build number is JZO54K.I9300XXEMF1
The phone shows Orange logo so pretty sure its locked on orange (also the seller is on Orange network). I am on O2 UK so need it to be unlocked. I have tried this method in the past and has worked with an S3 LTE Version (http://www.valuewalk.com/2012/12/how-to-unlock-galaxy-s3-and-galaxy-note-2-for-free/) however this time, there is no UMTS Menu (Step 1)
While searching about it, i read on XDA that it needs to be rooted to be able to see that UMTS menu ? (even though i dont remember doing that with the S3 with LTE )
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Just rooted and tried again. Still the UMTS menu is not there. straight goes to Debug Menu
EDIT 2: Used GalaxSim Service and paid £2.59 to unlock. Wish I had found out about it earlier. Would have saved me a lot of time!

Just out of curiousity, how did you get the device to accept code input? I have been struggling with a like device locked to the Mexican Telcel network. When I boot the device with an off network SIM it should pop up with a screen that says "Input Unlock Code" or something to that effect, but it simply says "Network Lock" and the only button on the screen says "Dismiss". It is not allowing me to put in the unlock code that I have purchased. Also, my UMTS option is missing from the first screen of the service menu as well.

baseband help request

at the origin, there was firmware HC 3.0.1 ver. XXKI1 (Vodafone).
later I downloaded original samsung firmware P7500XXLQ8_P7500OXALQ8_P7500XXLQ8_HOME.tar.md5 (4.0.4 ITV) and table works fine, I browse in 3G really fine.
later I needed Nougat, then I updated my device by following thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...stable-7-1-setup-google-voice-bigger-t3768344
tablet is rooted, twrp 3.11 installed.
almost everything works fine, the modem hooks the carrier of Vodafone Italy but only in GSM mode and I can receive only SMS.
nothing to do for browsing in 3G.
does a solution exist to browsing in 3G with Nougat with Vodafone Italy?
does a nice person exist who suggests me a work-around, an engineering code to modify baseband or have I to resign?
thanks, thanks, thanks

E-label location of FCC ID for H850?

Hi Folks,
According to the documentation I have, the FCC ID should able to be located by navigating to the Regulatory & safety item within Settings. There appears to be 2 options for locating this item. It is supposed to be displayed either under the General tab or in the About phone category of Settings.
However, it is not to be seen. Even doing a search doesn't reveal it.
The phone was new in a sealed box and has Android 7.0 installed with an Android security patch level of 1 November 2016.
Has anyone else had this problem and was able to solve it it?
Thanks!!
I can see the setting exactly where you said on my G5, with Android 8. Have you tried updating the phone to Oreo to see if you can get the info you need? Don't expect much, it only shows very basic info, at least on the OPEN_EU version.

Very interesting. Are you the original owner of your phone? If so, did it already have Oreo installed when you bought it? The documentation I previously referred to was from 2016 but Oreo was released in August 2017.
The LG SN & Carrier & Country Check, provided by IMEI.info, indicates it is an Israel variant and is associated with a Carrier in Israel (Carrier Code: ISR, Carrier: ISRAEL) which does not seem to make sense given that the phone was in a Sealed Box and supposed to be Unlocked. The same report also indicates it as having a Firmware File of H85030e_00_OPEN_IL_OP_0206.kdz and Firmware Version of H85030E_00 which indicates Android 8.
The list of Firmware, on the LG-ROMs website, also correlates with the Firmware File mentioned above.
Download LG Firmware for LG G5 LGH850 Android 8.x Oreo kdz stock ISR Rom

However, I'm not sure if the phone, I have, is a UK or Israel variant. The preselected Language was English. Preinstalled apps, such as Evernote, Facebook & Instagram, correlate with UK and Israel variants according to the respective User Guides. If it was an Israel variant, why wasn't the preselected language Hebrew one would be inclined to ask. The Israel User Guide contains both Hebrew and English versions.
After running an HDMI Connectivity check, the next step is to try an OTA (Over-The-Air) Update. The phone is in Oz. Would there be any problems attempting an OTA update for a phone that is not in its original region?
Does your phone correlate to the details on the following page which indicates a Region of EEE?

I'm making an educated guess that the "EEO", in the File name H85030e_00_EEO_GB_OP_1121.kdz, refers to the OPEN_EU version that you mentioned.
Thanks again.

I was not the original owner: I bought it second hand with Marshmallow installed, then I've upgraded to Nougat and then Oreo. I really don't remember how the FCC menu used to look on previous OS versions.

My neighbour bought a Huawei Phone online, and it was an Israelian variant as well. It was a new untouched phone, and I'm quite sure it didn't have Hebrew as default language on the first boot. It works with no problems in Italy. I think that the phone tries to guess the language to be used according to the SIM card: I have a couple of tablets made for the Italian Market, with no SIM card inside, that on first boot are set on English.

As long as you are sure about the model (H850), attempting an OTA or flashing a different variant for the same model is totally fine. Even in the case there are some incompatibilities between the Israelian carriers settings in the firmware and the carriers in the UK, they would be minor issues, such as the NTCODE error. Moreover, you would still be able to flash again a different variant using LGUP if you're not satisfied with the one you have.
EEO_GB by the way is not the OPEN_EU variant, that is called exactly OPEN_EU. I suppose that EEO_GB might be related to EE carrier in Britain.

It's definitely an H850.
Not looking to Flash any ROMs.
The phone is in Oz (Australia).
Would it be best to do the OTA update without a Local SIM card and just use a Wi-Fi connection to the Internet?
Can an "NTCODE error" happen after an OTA update?
Thanks!! again.

If you update the phone through an OTA update, the location shouldn't matter for the update process to complete. The phone will download the latest update available for its region. As the phone is in Australia and it's an Israelian variant, it will receive an Israelian update. So, as long as you use OTA updates, NTCODE error shouldn't happen. But don't worry, even if it happened, it would be just an annoyance, as it shows just once when you start the phone, but wouldn't affect the usage.
