Hello.
i have a windows phone at the moment. However, i really fell in love with the HTC One.
But some questions are still open:
1. how do you feel save regarding privacy? how much does google track etc?
2. i have a google account. which additional data is required if i get the phone and want to fully use it but not necessary G+?
3. how is the long term support? or for HTC in general? i heard smth about max 18 months.
4. how long does it take after a new version is unveiled till i can have it (if i get a normal unlocked phone)
5. is there an easy way to instant backup photos? if so, where are they saved?
6. do i have to use G+ or is one literally forced to use it?
I need to make the web browser app on ubuntu phone to work with custom CA (PEM format) and personal SSL (PKCS12 format) certificates. Any idea how to import such certificates?
Hi and welcome to our forums!
Sadly, that feature hasn't been implemented yet. Check out the following bug report on Launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/webbrowser-app/+bug/1313370
Hi, thanks for the link.
I can see that the feature is marked as important but unassigned at the moment. Any idea when this may get implemented? I've got ubuntu version of aquaris but without that I cannot use it..
I don't know any date. I could imagine that it takes a while though.

Hi guys,
I know it's not a specific question about mate 10 but I noticed that chrome drains a lot of battery on my mate 10 pro.
So I would like to know which browser do you use.
I'm looking for a light browser without success.
Moreover some browsers xbrowser and via work good but after some time they didn't work properly anymore without explication... Did you experiment sames issues?
Don't try opera mini because I know it and it appears that interface is a bit old..
Cheers
I usually use chrome but I've heard good things about the Samsung browser.

Firefox with unlock or Samsung browser with adblock fast
Inviato dal mio BLA-L29 utilizzando Tapatalk
Trying actually Samsung internet and it seems very very good.
Thanks guys!!!
Opera, it's very practical.
The mobile version of firefox ... I hate it
I use Chrome for everyday browsing and the Samsung one for all my bookmarked stuff due to the built in Adblock feature
Samsung browser is very good in fact and very battery friendly compared to chrome.
Have been using the Samsung Internet Browser BETA because it is already patterned to One Ui. it also allows fingerprint log in even using a non-samsung phone. Enjoying it on my Mate 10. Battery efficiency, Ad-blocking feature, and most of all, DARK MODE for late night reading.
Been using kiwi browser since it can export/import bookmarks and is a fork of chrome which doesn't let me backup bookmarks.
But I am trying Samsung browser from link above. It isn't that bad, I will give it a shot for a few days and see if I want to permanently switch.
I use tenta browser for it's built-in vpn abilities too
Kiwi browser
On Pie there's performance mode that's OFF by default. I think Oreo it's ON (without switch), so Chrome uses 100% cpu when loading websites and that drains battery a lot more than 90%.
Try opera touch. This is one of the fastest and smoothest browser for mate 10
Im surprised nobody mentioned Microsoft Edge. The UI is clean and most importantly it has capability to block ads and remove the blank spaces of the removed ads so the page looks more unified and neater. I tried samsung browser it could block ads as well but it doesnt remove the blank spaces.
I use oh browser available on playstore and xda. Really the best.... Try it
I use edge! Many have problems to install just because it's from Microsoft, but the fact is that it is a top browser. Simple, clean, easy and fast.

yandex browser. on mobile and also on pc
Brave Browser. Based on Chromium very lightweight and doesn't consume a lot of battery. Has an integrated ad blocker.

I use Firefox on both desktop and mobile phone for years. No problems at all, very fast, plenty add-ons and customizations, sync of all data with all connected devices etc.
Hi,
My trusty old pebble is sadly dying and I'm looking for a new smartwatch.
Problem is, I'm running microg instead of gapps and microg does not work with android Wear.
Do the amazfit watches (I'm looking at the pace) actually run Wear OS? Or is it a proprietary rom like pebble uses?
Is anyone using amazfit watches with microg or completely without gapps?
Any input appreciated!

So not technically wear os... So it should work.
Does it use the wear os app or just the amazfit app?

The amazfit pace has nothing to do with Android Wear.
Is a 5.1 Android ROM.
It uses a MIPS CPU architecture so not every Android app will work on the watch.
If you want, give me a link to the app you would like and I will test it on my pace.

Thanks for offering.
It's not that I'm afraid the watch won't run something it's that my phone doesn't connect with "normal" android watches due to me not using gapps.
But seen as the watch uses a completely different system I should be fine!

Oh, ok.
I'm planning to switch to Android pie, when I'll do, I can try to connect to the watch before installing any gapps
But it's gonna take some time, not this week for sure, hopefully I'll get it done by next week or so.... If you can wait.

So did anyone ever find out if the watch works without Google Play Services?

This question doesn't make sense at all... The watch itself, as explained before, does not run or need Gapps. But to use the watch with your phone (notifications, sync data, etc), you must install Amazfit Watch app on your phone, and if you don't use a Google account for login (there are many other options) then it doesn't require PlayServices. You can download the app from Mi app store, the Chinese version most probably doesn't require PlayServices for sure.
@SM26 would you be able to test 'OneWheelWear - Free Version' ?

1 - Outlook
2 - Take your pick. I use Samsung Browser.
3 - I have Microsoft for that
4 - aCalendar was my go to for a while
5 - Evernote is good
6 - Dropbox, One drive etc etc
7 - Same as for 6
But as others have said we have nothing to worry about with the P30 Pro.

Of course future devices will have to use the Huawei app store because they also lose Play Store
I think that most important part, except security patches, is Google Play Store itself and maybe Youtube access (which is kind of monopoly).
In may personal opinion, supplying a lot of phones with AOSP based Andriod to developed market like EU can lead to new law, enforcing Google to open access to Play Store and maybe even strip all unnecessary services from it. Google has already 3rd antitrust fine from UE so I think there are good chances for that in the future.
Problem is that consumer will need to unlock bootloader and have root access to benefit that hypothetical possibility. Or practically install GApps without waiting. Giving easy root access in developer menu will not be problem for some manufacturers.
I only wish Chinese brands invest in some open source OS and services located outside of China (maybe in some neutral "Switzerland"). This will give them more trust from the customers and governments. Developing special closed OS is road to nowhere in my opinion (or maybe road to China mainland. They should stick to mainstream android as close as possible and leave special experiments for the competitors.

It's stupid to blame Google for the decisions of the US government. That said:
1 Nine
2 Firefox (with UBlock Origin)
..
6 Dropbox
7 Dropbox

Google services and support will not end on current models. If you still wan't them replaced, then my list would be :
1. Any stock email app with POP configured to retrieve mails from Gmail.
2. Brave or Samsung browser.
3. Office 365.
4. Stock calendar app.
5. Evernote.
6. Going to be difficult as i have all my photos uploaded to Google Photos :crying: External storage / HiSuite
7. Mega/ Onedrive
Ok.
I misunderstood.
Google isnt responsible.
But I gotta think about google apps alternatives, for the near unpredictable future.
Discovered an app called NewPipe. Its downloadable through an app store called F-Droid. The app is a YouTube frontend, which doesnt make use of Google Services.

You can always use Youtube Vanced and microG to log in. If you have issues logging in, then temporarily disable google chrome, login into youtube vanced and then re-enable google chrome. Works just fine, no ads and you're able to play in the background.

Thanks!
I didn't know about YouTube Vanced.
Now, I'm looking for a good web browser that syncs bookmarks with its PC version.
I'm using Opera since last week. It's good! But some times it crashes.
I'm also using SwiftKey instead GBoard, but, also, I'm looking for an alternative.

its not the apps u need to worry about, its the 'service', which ties all these google apps together to your google account.
