i ve read that there is a problem with the cwm version and the marshmallow g apps . i read but i can t figure out how to either downgrade cwm or find an other method to fix. please help. play store would be enough
CWM is outdated. Use PhilZ Touch or TWRP instead.

Yes
I did also install ClockworkMod Recovery from this site, and the asnwer is yes, if you have rooted your phone with one click mode (i did root my S2 from there also, what a coincidence then you can install ClockworkMod Recovery without any problems, just follow the instructions shown.
Then you should install RomManager from playmarket, it will help you to use ClockworkMod Recovery more smoothly
Hello, I am just browsing the I717 posts here, being familiar with android root and CWM, I can not seem to find much with root and CWM on the boards here. I see a lot of root, that installs TWRP a lot but I am looking to root and have CWM. Perhaps I missed it, however wanted to ask. Thank you.
Is this the most recent ?

That root method seems to install TWRP, I just want ROOT by itself so perhaps I can install CWM ?
To root this phone you have to flash a kernel that also installs CWR. The only way I can see to get root only without installing a recovery is put the phone in download mode and use odin to flash a rooted rom. But I've never seem an odin version of a rooted rom.
Why don't you want TWRP? Its way better than CWR.

Latest CWM is 6.0.4.3
You do not need to install a custom kernel to root your phone. Use Odin to install CWM and then use CWM recovery to install a version of superuser.
Easiest method I know is here: Works for jellybean also.

Hello to everyone
I am the proud owner of a galaxy S3 - i9300 since couple of days (got s2 before) and I would like to install a custom rom. Right now it is official JB. So first I tried to follow the guide from here the galaxys3root.com - galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-jelly-bean-or-ics
I finished installing, everything said ok but SuperSU said "“There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!”. However I was able to enter recovery mode and see that cwm was installed. I repeated the procedure - same result. I tried using the CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar.md5, it said ok, finished, all green but again i had no root access (cwm still there, root checker said no root and supersu dissappeared).
The ultimate goal for me is to install CM11 rom with kitkat. So please clear some things for me (almost beginner level):
1. do i really need root from now on?
2. can i just reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset and install ROM? (all from the device, no odin)
3. is it a better solution to flash stock firmware through odin and start rooting all over again ?
4. Why don't I have root access since I followed all the indicated steps?
One detail that might matter is that now my cwm is version 5.5.0.4 CF v.1.5
Thank you for any help (and again, beginner+1 language please)
Visit CM and CF autoroot site you will find the answer to your questions.
All you need to install CM is recovery, so if you can get into that you are golden and don't need root on your current rom because its going to be over written with CM anyway
Thank you for your replies!
IOU-1, I did some research over the internet and I still do but I'm looking for some straight-on answers right now.
Darke5tShad0w, thanks for your help - right now I have cwm 5.5.0.4 - can you point me towards how to update to newer one? (I cannot do it through play store since I don't have root access).
Ok, I've found the cwm update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052091 I think this should work.

Try this since your goal is to install CM-ROM http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/CyanogenMod_Installer
Sorry I dont have alot of time today to be able to find you a link for the updated version.
Few things you can do here,
Use the link IOU-1 posted, I forgot about this yesterday then update CWM with rom manager
Try to flash cm with current CWM, if it works update it with rom manager
Search the forums and find the correct cwm post and update manually
Ok, thanks to everyone for their answers.
I fixed it and I'll say how so anyone in my position will do the same.
As a reminder, I tried to root but all I succeded to do is get cwm installed but no root (so no rom manager or any other root app installed).
What i did was to update cwm manually from within it, with zip install from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052091
After that I simply installed CM11 - zip install - and now I have root and everything is running smoothly.
Again thanks - and good luck to all.
Hi.
Firstly I tried to root g5520 and i wasn't succeed to root but recently i made it to root using AZ Auto Root.
Now I want to install TWRP Recovery. I already tried "twrp-3.1.1-0-on5ltetmo.img" but failed and stuck at download mode and got software error and then i have to install software again.
I need TWRP to flash Gapps in Original Software because Orignal "SM-G5520_G5520ZCU1AQB1" Dont have Gapps.
Please help me to install TWRP and Gapps in Original Software.
Thanks
Search "g5520 play store fix" on Google.
Click on either "gsm-firmware" OR "gsmmarhaba" website they have the firmware with multilanguage and play store fixed.
I can't post the links because this my first post.
....and the TWRP you're trying to flash is for metropcs and T-Mobile. It will not work with "on5xfltezc" or "on5xfltechn".
Hi i want just install cwm on my s3, and be with stock firmware , i dont wanna install Custom Roms or same like that, just be with CWM and stock rom. so still root required when CWM INSTALLED FROM ODIN? SORRY FOR DUMP QUESTION
No need to root before installing a custom recovery with Odin.
I recommend TWRP over CWM as CWM has not been updated for a very long time.

Neither has the s3 and twrp is known for borking your nand, so much so that they have a section on it on twrp website.
My opinion, use the last official cwmr for your device.
@shivadow, I didn't know that twrp affected the s3. The last version I recall using on the last few sgh-i747m phones I had was 2.87.
Do you have a link to the twrp section regarding this issue? Might be good to have it stickied?
Thank you.
Twrp buggers all devices in the end, not just the s3. It's like there's a bug that can't be solved.
