Initial impressions - Nexus 6P General

Just got my 6p yesterday. Have to say that I really love the device so far. Is super fast and the camera is great. Battery life seems to be solid as well.
With that said, I did notice the dreaded pink hue on the whole left side of the screen. I called Fi this morning and they are sending out a replacement device. I'm just hoping the replacement doesn't have the same issue, as it looks to be pretty prevalent based on what I've been reading on here. I have the 128GB Aluminum with a build date in mid December.

Got my RMA device in the mail today and I'm very pleased. It's flawless. I compared the screen of the RMA unit to my original one and I can definitely see a difference. The original screen had the pink hue on the left side and was noticeably dimmer with similar brightness settings.
All in all, now that I got the issue with the screen worked out I am very satisfied with this device. Feels great to have a nexus that feels like a true flagship and an outstanding camera!

Just wait until you root it and get flash happy lol

Glad it worked out well! Now flash away...

Yellow screen - does it go away?

So, anybody who originally had yellow screens notice it go away after a few days?
I just got my replacement TFP from Amazon to replace the TFP that had a screen blotch/defect. Though the replacement screen does not have any dead pixels, light bleed, or blotches, it is much much yellower than my first prime (I have them side by side - clearly the new one is yellower). If I can expect the yellow hue to go away and look like my first TFP screen, I'll keep it and be happy. Otherwise I'm not a happy camper...
I heard somewhere that it could wet glue that still needs to dry. I have to send my old tablet back in within the next 15 days or I'll get charged. Trying to figure out what to do.
When I first got mine I thought I was seeing a yellowish tint too. After a while it seemed to have gone away. It was probably the adhesive not being dry. I remember the iPad 2 having the same issue too when it first came out. I say wait a few days and see.

My husband and I both Primes (and we both love them). One thing I've noticed though is that his display is not as good as mine and does seem to have more of a yellow undertone. It's still a great display, just not quite as good as mine. We've both had them for about two weeks, so I would think if it was a wet glue issue it would have resolved by now. His icons also aren't quite as sharp as mine in a side by side comparison. He wears glasses and hasn't even noticed, but I have. He also has one stuck pixel on the lower right portion of his screen that shows up as a very small bright white spot on solid backgrounds. We have great wifi though and no other problems.
I have noticed a yellow tint. But I'm not sure if it's just ics warm pallet... As it's similar to my nexus a

I noticed this too. I had originally ordered one from GameStop and then had to get it replaced. I then ordered a second one from Office Depot for my sister, and I can definitely tell the difference. The two that came from GameStop did not have the yellow tint, while the one from Office Depot does. I doesn't look bad when you are using it, but you can definitely tell the difference between the two side by side, especially on white screens. Now she's debating if she wants to return it and hope for a better one or try ordering from GameStop.
I've had 3 Primes so far. Two have the same excellent screens with a nice color temp (not too warm, not too cold, to paraphrase Goldilocks). One, though, which I still have and will be returning soon to Best Buy, has a VERY yellow cast that has NOT gone away.
I think that there are some screen-yellowing issues that are more splotchy that do resolve as something dries. However, I also think there are some screens that are much, much warmer overall and that this will NOT resolve. I've been using the one side-by-side with one that has a great screen, and over 5 days it remains exactly the same.
I personally couldn't live with it. I like warmer screens (I think my wife's Samsung GT 10.1, which as an excellent screen, is too cold; so is my Epic 4G Touch), but this thing just muddies colors because it's far, far too warm.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm not taking a risk in this not going away; just setup return authorization for both the original and replacement tablet. Going to get a refund from Amazon, and then really think about my decision on what I want to do moving forward. I hate to say it, as much as I loved using the TFP (no WiFi problems, GPS didn't bother me, and I love Android), I might take this opportunity to hold out a bit longer for something else.
Yep, just to add another voice, the yellow tint will not go away. You'll have to take your chances if you want another Prime. For what it is worth, I've had three (!) two had excellent clear screens, one had a yellow tint that I really disliked especially as the contrast didn't appear as good.
I have had two primes, on both the screens are nice but not as good as a TF101 or galaxy 10.1.
Colors are off no matter what. But it still looks decent, just not as good as everyone made it out to be.
You can easily compare your TFP to a android phone or anything else and notice colors are not as vibrant and dont stand out as much.
After all the troubles i went through to get the two I have gotten I would say they are good enough for what they are, they are not worth $500, battery life is as good if not a little less than that of the galaxy 10.1.
It depletes fast but it also recharges fast so that's good at least. My first Prime had the yellow screen and it went away after a few days, but both seem to have lesser quality than my TF101 and Galaxy 10.1 (and even my cheap android phone).

Quality control of HTC one...

I am a tech savy person who love new gadgets.
In my previous days, I had galaxy s3, note 2, and iPhone 5. Also I've went to T-Mobile store to buy the Sony Xperia z.
Sony was a great phone with waterproof and dust proof. But the downside out weigh my decision.
Sony had problems with their ui, like lag, and slow updates. Also WiFi reception were terrible. Also the battery won't hold charges and it would die within matter of couple hours. The phone's design is all glass, therefore... Holding the device would be extremely uncomfortable because it would get way too hot.
So I've went ahead and got the HTC one.
As far as ui goes, it's far surprior than Sony.
Only issues I have with my HTC one is one stuck dead pixel and making small popping noises through speakers. ( I will be exchanging next week)
Anywho, besides those few quality issues, HTC one feels good in hand. Just wanting to keep playing with the phone.
Anyways, is having stuck pixel quiet common? Along with low popping noises ?
I'll get the HTC one, because it's unique design and it's not galaxy phone. ( just joking). What are you experiences with the quality issues with the HTC one?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The popping sound is normal. It's just the amplifier turning on and off.
The dead pixel seems to be common as well. If it's not too noticeable I wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy your phone.
Nothing is perfect in life.
popping sound will be gone with CM 10.2 unofficial.
Had this sound too while using Stock Rom, ARHD or Trickdroid.
Also i've got a very small gap on top of the device but i can live with it^^
Yeah like not really even finger nail width but enough to see it close if you pinch down? That's what I have too. Got a clear Cimo grip back TPU case coming in a day or 2 from Amazon so once the clear case is on I wouldn't even see it.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The dead pixel is very small and only can be seen at black images or at dark places. But still visiable.
Also there is slight gap on top of my device. I'll still return and get the different one.
Oh and my usb charging poet has a chip... This was out of the box as well.

I'm only using my Fitbag for the One, didn't like cases so much^^
i bought my htc one at my local t-mobile store. it was perfect. then i bought my gf the same phone 1 week later from the same store. her phone had 1 dead pixel that was very annoying. you could only see it on a white screen. but it was a pretty big square. so i took it back and the replacement one was perfect. i wouldn't deal with a dead pixel with a brand new phone.

it should be not "normal" but seems to happen quite often :/
I've got the same gap but it starts near the power button and goes to the left corner (facing the phone as normal)
Cool, t mobile is sending me a new one so if the one they send is the same I will just keep this one. Otherwise it's one sexy device

So, I went to the local store and found the one with 7/2/13 manufactured HTC one. I assume being the lastest made was gonna be on par with quality.
And volla! My third one paid off! It's in perfect quality. No dead pixels, no gaps, no glue sticking out.
Mean while, I made a call to tmobile and they sent me another one... But this one looks like refurbished phone. But didn't have any dead pixels. Although it has small gap and glue sticking out... Looks very refurbished and looks like the company were rushing the device to build.
Both are solid without any noticeable defects. I'll be keeping the one out of new box. And send the replacement one. Although this one doesn't have any dead pixels.
I guess later built phones are more quality vs earlier manufactured date. So far, it's an amazing phone. I'm so happy with it in the end and paid off!
Anyways, wish you the best everyone.

Sound off here if your device is perfect

I have seen dozens of posts about various defects and such. i want to know who has gotten one that has been in proper working order?
Mine has a very slight pink hue but i dont really notice it.

Honestly though I don't think I have any issues with my phone. I've checked it over and over. I'm really impressed with the reception. I can't remember the last phone I had that got this good of reception.

This is almost the perfect phone. While many things can be better (e.g. smaller bezels, an even better camera, this that and the other), i am not as picky as some users are. I think the camera is very nice. The speakers are great. The audio jack is good to slightly better than good. The screen is beautiful. The device is amazingly beautiful. Battery has been close to very good. Lots of great things.
The only issue i have with my phone and its barely that, is the screen shifts to a greyish blue when not viewed within 10 degrees horizontal/vertical. Not a deal breaker in the slightest.
and totally agree with the above post. Reception has been very nice. Data, too.
No problems with mine. Tested everything that others complained about and no issues.
No defects here.

Perfect 6P here. The best phone I've ever had....
Works as I expected. Honestly, reading all of these defect posts here and on Reddit made me a bit paranoid. Like I'm looking to see if there's even the slightest discrepancy in flushness of the bottom back plastic plate and the rest of the aluminium body. Or exaggerating the volume difference between the top and bottom speakers when I run a stereo audio test. It's nothing worth getting worked up about!
I'm happy with it as long as I can keep it scratch-free until my case arrives!
The only issue I have had with mine is that the back access port isn't completely levels. It's raised on one side. Though the phone is going to spend the rest of its life in a case so it doesn't matter. Apart from that and the paranoia that my phone will never be updated its the best phone ive owned.
Honestly, the best phone I've ever had. I switched from iPhone 6 to a used LG G3 earlier this year. My Nexus 6P is perfection. Utter bliss. I'm actually in a state of continuous geekgasm.

Adore it like as if it were my child. I missed having chamfered edges like with my old m7. I just like looking at it from different angles and seeing the light shine around it.

What makes so much of a difference in your comparison,,did you root it?

LG G3 => Nexus 6P Was it worth it?

Hi.
This is just my personal opinion thread. Around three months ago I swapped the G3 for brand new Nexus 6P and wanted to share with you my thoughts. I will write it in a comparison way to show what changed for me.
1. PRICE - I paid £120 for used 16GB LG G3 almost a year ago. The nexus cost me £440 for 32GB brand new from a phone shop back in December (early Christmas present for myself).
2. DESIGN - I still really like the G3! The overall smoothness, no buttons on the side (I became a fan of buttons on the back), the feel of lightness. Yes, it's plastic, but because of that I never bothered with any cases. In worst case I could just replace the rear cover for new one - job done. The screen is very good, but over sharpening bothered me sometimes. And those bezels - I think one of the best examples of what you can do with screen-to-body ratio. And the size was perfect - big but still mostly manageable with one hand (thanks to thin bezels again).
The design of Nexus 6P speaks for itself. I liked aluminium feel on iPhone, HTC ONE m7 and I like it on the 6P. The only problem with it is... It's aluminium and I don't want to scratch it. So like on iPhone I had to sacrifice the superb feeling and put it in a case. The visor on top doesn't bother me really. I think it looks interesting, differentiates the phone from hundreds of others looking the same. On the front - (almost) stereo speakers. The play nice and loud although I suffer from top speaker being louder. And yes I can hear the imbalance... The bezels are rather big (normal, considering speakers upfront?). And I don't like these buttons on the side. When I grab the phone, and unlock with finger on my way, sometimes I lock it again accidentally with my thumb. And there's the issue with some car mounts which grab your phone from the sides. It's just a big phone and my next one will be max 5,5" for sure.
3. CAMERA - I would say that these are comparable. I don't have big monitor (nor the PC for the matter) to properly compare them but they both seem very good. 6P gets more light and that's noticeable. I just wish 6P had 12Mp 16:9 instead of 4:3 because that forces me to use 8Mp 16:9. LG gets 10Mp in 16:9. Both shoot great videos but I think LG has little edge here with its OIS. Both shoot in 4K but I think LG has more potential (with hardware mod I have it doesn't overheat, has OIS, SD card slot and can be equipped with 6000/9000MAh swappable battery for long recordings). And LG has dual tone flash which is brighter than 6P's.
4. SOFTWARE - surprisingly stock LG G3 with Google launcher isn't that much slower than 6P. Sure, everything opens up faster on Nexus but the difference is not big. Multitasking on the other hand obviously is better on 6P - more RAM, quicker app changes. It just doesn't have this lag that G3 has, everything happens "now". But I miss the soft menu key bringing down notification bar, especially that 5,7" is a long way up for finger to reach it. Other thing I had and has been taken away is Miracast support. Blocking it was a bit Apple'ish behaviour to try and force users to buy Chromecast (I have chromecast, but many other friends with smart TV's don't and Miracast allowed me to easily share pics and vids on big screen).
5. SCREEN - LG has very nice screen (except for this over sharpening), but my first AMOLED is just something completely different. I love these blacks! Colours are nice and vivid albeit maybe a bit too saturated. SRGB mode on the other hand seems to be washed out too much. Maybe it's just too perfect for the likes of regular user. And whites are definitely whiter and brighter on G3.
OK, time to end this summary/comparison. These are just few of my thoughts and I know that many things can be changed with root (CPU Temp app doesn't show temperature on 6P and it drives me mad!), but I am not convinced yet to do it so things will stay as they are for now. Would I buy it again if I knew all this? Probably not and I'd wait for the release of new phones shown on MWC 2016. Maybe I would even choose something from China? Why not.
I don't know if anyone will find it interesting but I just wanted to share it with somebody, maybe get some feedback.
Cheers!
I wanted to say quickly, about your miracast comment. I had the note 4 previously that I used screen mirroring to watch movies from my phone on my TV. The Nexus 6p doesn't work exactly the same way, but there are two apps on the Google play store which work similar so I can still do the same thing essentially with my Nexus 6p. One is called imediashare, and the other is allconnect. Sometimes I have to switch from one app to the other because one may not play the video but the other one will, but it's not that big of a hassle. Give those apps a try and see if it solves your miracast issue. Otherwise, I love my Nexus 6p vs the note 4. So far, the Nexus 6p has been the best device I've ever owned and used, and I have used a lot of devices. Cheers!
I came to the 6p from the g3 and I'm very happy with the choice. At first I really missed the double tap unlock feature, but quickly got used to not having it.

You can get that feature by flashing a custom kernel... Or I guess search through the forums there is a method somewhere to activate the dt2w... Sorry could have posted had I not been using mobile XDA premium app...
P.S I don't really use the feature myself as the FP sensor is good enough for me...
Also had the G3 before the 6P, and the 6P is vastly superior in every way!
I had a g3 before my nexus 6 which I now have a 6p the 6 was world's better then the g3 Imo and the 6p is a different monster all together. The g3 was my shortest kept android was far to laggy and slow 801 was not ready for that screen.

You don't need root to swipe down in Nova. I just revoked root access to Nova to confirm. You just go into Nova settings > gestures & inputs, and set swipe down to "expand notifications"
My last phone was the G3 (D850). I did not have a good experience with it. I am blown away with the performance of the 6P thus far.

You could solve 90% of your problems with custom ROM and kernel... Try Chroma and Franco. You get all the features and your battery life will be much better on top. Using this Combo for about 3 months and didn't have a single problem.
yeah! I miss my htc-m8. because I'd multirom with 3 base version of Android! I mean, I'd kitkat and lollipop and marshmallow in same time. so good so far!
plus it'd amazing sound
I think I'd be happy to trade up to pretty much anything from a G3. My girlfriend has one and it's the most awful modern Android smartphone I've used. It's laggy, since the 801 really can't deal with a 2K display. That 'fancy' display is terrible, a huge retrograde step from the one on the G2 in terms of contrast, colour accuracy and outdoor visibility. The battery life is okay, but not fantastic like the G2 was with the same battery capacity. Then finally, hers locks up and drains the battery when the screen is off...
Still, I guess LG were allowed to have an 'off' day, since the G2 was fantastic, the G4 seems to be highly regarded, I loved my Nexus 4, the Nexus 5 was fantastic value if a bit creaky build-wise, and the 5X is a really nice bit of kit!
Edit: The speaker on the G3 is really good though. Nearly gives me a heart attack every time the damn thing rings. You could probably hear it from another continent...
The G3 was the worst phone I've owned in the past 5 years. Overheating, laggy piece of crap.
Amazing how many 6p guys came from g3. I didn't have any issues with my g3 other than battery. Would have left back to Nexus if the 6 had been worth a crap
LG G4 => Nexus 6P. Totally worth it.
I loved my G3 on Verizon running ResurrectionROM, 6.0.1, and xposed. Ran smooth and the overheating stopped once I got on Android 6.0. However, at least once a day it'd completely reboot on it's own and that got annoying. The screen was sharp but the colors sucked, brightness was awful, and the battery was awful.
This was a big upgrade.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
It is crazy how many people came from G3. I had a Nexus 6 before my 6p and while I really liked my N6 the 6p is much better imo. I was at first skeptical because Huawei makes it but after a few devs I know talked so highly about it I decided to jump and I'm very happy that I did. I get a Nexus every year and this is by far my favorite of all phones I've owned since Android was born and I started w/ the G1. Google finally made a GREAT device with the Nexus 6p!!! I usually sell every year and buy a new one while this next year I will no doubt grab the new Nex I'm keeping my 6p. Nobody who bought a 6p has regretted it. I love mine!! ✌???
I also (we should start a club) came from the G3 to the Nexus 6p. I don't regret the upgrade at all. I was overall satisfied with my G3, but the battery life was the worst and I was never really happy with the screen. It was also super laggy at times where the N6P is always smooth. I do still find myself tapping the screen to wake my phone up, but am slowly getting used to the fingerprint scanner. Overall, the 6P is a way better phone in my opinion.

Agree with you on your comments...
I had a Z ultra which was very smooth, fast and snappy. I got D850 from my brother and it was very slow even there was a stutter when opening the app drawer. I unlocked BL, rooted and installed MM for international version on D850 and it is much better. Still my Z ultra was relatively more snappier than LG G3. The screen resolution was great but the colors were dull and poor in outdoors. I got 3+ hours of screen on time with one day standby.
I bought Nexus 6p exchanging my Z ultra a few weeks ago and its easily the smoothest of the three devices.
I love the screen and the development support available for the device.

Got mine... So far, so awful.

I can't believe how laggy and how horrible this thing scores on benchmarks. I am getting 118k on AnTuTu and 1200/3200 in Geekbench. Worse than the G5. I wiped it and ran the tests again with the same results. About three hours into ownership and I am totally disappointed. It's probably going back to TMobile.
I think mine is way too narrow also. Feels like a 5" inch phone. Thought it would be way wider.

Why ? A 18:9 has less screen area than a 16:9 with the same diag measurement. This has been noted in reviews of the phone.
As noted in this review, the total screen area is actually a little larger than the iPhone 7 plus and in a smaller body, but still less total screen area than a 5.7" phone with a 16:9 ratio.

For some odd reason the nav bar is absolutely enormous, even in small display mode, making the usable area of the screen quite a bit less than 5.7, making it feel much more like 5.2/౩. If it weren't for the always on display this thing would already be back in the box.
I'm assuming you guys have not taken an update, if there even is one. In order to preserve whatever root method comes about first?

My G6 feels faster than my G4. I almost got the V20 but it didn't have wireless charging. I got a wireless charging sticker for the G4. I'll try to get use to this odd 5.7" screen size.
The G6 really reminds me of my old 5" HTC DNA with Verizon that was the 1st phone to have wireless charging back in like 2012.

After a full days use on my T-Mobile LG G6, it's definitely not as buttery as my Pixel but performance is good enough for an Android device running last year's silicon. You can tell the software isn't optimized for the SD821 like it is on the Pixel. The Pixel is by far the smoothest phone I've ever used.
So far the only thing that bugs me is the uneven LCD screen, the bottom half is warmer than the top which triggers my OCD like crazy and I see it every time on a white background. Brings back memories of my OnePlus One days where I had to exchange 4 different times to get a half way decent screen.
I'm getting really good battery life so far which is a good sign and it charges way faster than my Pixel it seems. Camera so far has been pretty meh... I took a few night pictures and they come out better on my Pixel.
So far, Pixel to me is still the king, I'll most likely return this thing and try the Galaxy S8. If that doesn't blow me away, I'm hanging onto my Pixel until the next gen version.

I'm getting really good battery life so far which is a good sign and it charges way faster than my Pixel it seems. Camera so far has been pretty meh... I took a few night pictures and on my Pixel they come out better.
So far, Pixel to me is still the king, I'll most likely return this thing and try the Galaxy S8. If that doesn't blow me again, I'm hanging onto my Pixel until the next gen version.

Don't worry once you guys get root you can use kcal to adjust screen calibration as we guys with the v20s are doing

T-Mobile shipped out their pre-orders early
yeah I`m waiting on ATT version, but I`m been with android forever, I`m also thinking of getting Iphone 7 plus and I have played with my wife`s phone and love how smooth and quick it is, not sure yet.........but I`m little concerned with the issues reported
Root is not fixing this thing's performance issues. It's not bloat causing it, its just clearly unoptimized. You will definitely want software updates enabled to get hopefully optimized software.
