Weird question - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

I acquired a Galaxy s5 that's hard bricked. I don't care for Samsung products for many reasons, but they do have some good hardware. Going out on a limb here, but would it be at all possible to replace the camera in my HAM2 with the camera in this useless galaxy s5? Do be to hard on me, I'm only curious. Thank you.

May be possible in theory ... Impossible in practice

Nope.

It'd be easier to get a new phone.

US ban of Samsung, is this possible ?

So apple didn't accept the terms from Samsung in Australia, thus leading to a ban and total loss there. What's the possibility of this happening in the US. I'm reading that a judge in California needs to rule... what would happen to the galaxy lineup?
Once again, most companies just want you to pay royalties, not apple, they want to ban everything!
Samsung is probably already working on changing the design, even by a bit to make sure they have something to replace the current design.

You're mistaken - the judge has not made any ruling in Australia yet. The final outcome should be known within two weeks.
I already have my tablet, so p!$$ on 'em.
If the court finds that Samsung copied Apple, which imo they did then it will be banned. Anyone who has the tab can keep theirs it just wont be on store shelves anymore.

Why don't Samsung just bring back the 10.1v design? Doesn't look like the ipad and works great. Would this also be considerd a clone by apple.

Don't worry about a U.S. ban. 1) never happens here; and 2) U.S. courts don't have their heads up their asses when it comes to facial similarities like the one apple is claiming here.

This may lead to a discontinued Tab from Samsung. If they develop another one and GT 10.1 can't be sold in Germany, Australia, US ... why would theysupport the 10.1? Maybe we are lucky and Samsung wins, maybe they just change the case.

I guess it wouldn't be considered as a clone but the 10.1v is too thick and won't be suceeding in the markets. The reason why everyone wants the 10.1 is that it's thin.

Yeah, this is what I'm worried about. I always end up buying devices that get discontinued quickly (latest was my Zune). Blasphemy, I know, but maybe I should have bought an Ipad 2...at least I wouldn't worry about it not being supported.

Spot on. I just read about the Australia ban via wired magazine app before seeing this, and I thought the same thing.
Apple is so full of WHINE, it could almost get me drunk.
Samsung is a fantastic company, and doesn't deserve all the flak.

Need a Phone!

Hello all.
I was using a DX2 which isn't a bad phone but the ability to use custom software on it is very limited to none as I am sure most of you know. regardless it was a good phone, at least for me. Well in the short ver. of things my wife got a replacement phone which I was stuck with. It's the Samsung ChitOphere (Stratosphere) sorry if you like the phone and I offend you but to me it's a flipping joke!
I would very much so like some serious input here as to what phone to get. I don't have an upgrade at the time, I have about 10 months or so before that so what I get will have to be 100% out of pocket. I don't mind it being something used. Here is what I want in my phone.
1. Ability to use custom ROM/Kernel/Etc
2. 8mp camera
3. Good Sound
4. Good Radio
5. Good Battery life
Now, I am not unreasonable, I realize that getting the perfect phone is not gonna happen, but if I can get one that has the best balance in these features I will be tickled pink!! So please, if you will respond to this thread if you have some good advice and can help me in my quest to find a phone.
Oh yeah, the phone can be something that I can replace when my upgrade is ava. or it can be one that I would want to keep.
If you aren't aware by now, I am on VZW.
Thank you very mcuh for your input!
For me, a very good phone is the Samsung Captivate i987 (5Mpix camera, but has a looooot of support from community).
Possible choices with 8MPix camera:
SE -->Neo V, Arc, Arc S
Samsung -->Galaxy SII Skyrocket, SII T989, Infuse 4G
HTC -->Evo 4G, Inspire 4G, Sensation 4G...
Other choices...
Check in the development forums of each device if it has good support
Sounds like you want a GS3 lol

While I do appreciate all the replies, I would prefer not to purchase something that isn't already on the VZW network, as I don't have want to have to deal with one being unlocked for the GSM. Also I have no intentions at this time going with a different carrier.
Thanks,

I would say Galaxy Nexus, but it lacks in sound volume and camera quality. I can't comment on the radio, however.
Nexus/S2 have loads of support. They are really a developers phone. Battery life just isn't there on the nexus, unless you don't keep your 3g on when not in use or use fast dormancy.

From what I've heard, the camera on the gnex outperforms the S2.
When will people learn its not all about the megapixels? Ever heard of lens? Sensor?

Well the GS3 is right up your alley for sure.
1.All of this is possible ^_^
2.I am pretty sure the GS3 has the best smartphone camera out atm its really nice!
3.The speakers on the GS3 are EASILY the loudest/best I have ever used.
4.umm you mean like LTE?
5.Awesome battery life! Especially when you start installing custom roms, kernels, UV, etc.
Now to buy a straight out GS3 it's pretty expensive (about $500-600ish?) so you will have to be patient. Everyday search amazon, ebay, craigslist, xda marketplace etc. Like I said you have to be patient, sometimes you will find something in your price range within a week, sometimes it can take over 1 month. Eventually though I am sure you will find something that satisfies you! I got lucky with my GS3(i747), I found one in about 2 weeks FOR ONLY $290 and it was practically brand new! It only came with the phone itself, and no battery door cover but for $290 that is still an amazing deal(probably best deal I have ever found tbh).
Good luck on your search for your phone!

SGS4 vs LG-G2

It seems to me that the G2 is pretty much mimicking the S4... from what I can see from the website http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/g2 ... More than a phone "inspired by you" it looks like a phone "inspired by the S4" lol...
What do you guys think?
I'm not sure how I feel about the volume control on the back of the phone but the snapdragon 800 should thoroughly whoop up on the S4.
I have a feeling this is going to get closed and be moved to the sticky thread. Anyways, the G2 is a solid device and although you can notice the Touchwiz influences, it's really a nice new experience. Definitely a snappy device with an excellent camera.

The G2 has a loki unlock just like the S4. This will probably be the norm from now on since security is being taken more seriously and unlocking bootloaders will take a lot more effort.

Just got an S4, I was thinking of getting the G2 but then I thought Samsung would support the S4 more than LG would the G2 when it came to updates and XDA would have more hacks. We shall see.
The G2 is a nice phone, but with the Nexus 5 being based on it I can't see why anyone would really want it unless they really can't leave Verizon. Also, I really hate how they completely nerfed the US models with non-removable batteries and no expandable storage. Those 2 things alone make the S4 a better phone for me still.
I checked out the G2 and it is a very nice, fast, powerful phone. The specs and battery are great. The camera is also very good and very fast.
It is worth considering. However the S4 has expandable storage and a removable battery.
Either way you go you probably can't go wrong.
Please use the sticky thread for any further discussion.

Next phone?

Hey guys. So my upgrade will be in March which isn't far away and I'm looking for a new phone. I'm very disappointed with the gs4 on Verizon since the bootloader is locked. Yes, I have safestrap but I love AOSP vs Touchwiz. I've looked up some phones coming out this year such as gs5 and HTC one+ (m8). I really liked the design of the HTC one and wish I bought that over the gs4. Just wondering what you guys would get next. The gs5 or something different since i almost feel like Samsung is following apple's tracks. Also do you even like the gs4? Let me know what you all think..

Love the GS4 (besides the whole bootloader lock down) but I'd be willing to wager that the gs5 will be just as if not more locked down.

Love what S4...what bootloader? I had my best times with the DX and its locked bootloader. This whole BL thing is so overblown with the S4. Repetitive threads and posts about it...it's like a broken record.

Don't like Samsung's attitude toward customers.
Probably won't buy another Samsung device. Like the device, don't like the company.
We'll see with the GS5. I doubt I'll bite.
Having the microSD support is compelling but, I can get by without it now that Meenova has the keychain USB-OTG adapter from microSD cards.
We'll see what LG and HTC come out with.
I like the Sony, but Verizon and Sony are like oil and water.
From all reports, the S5 is going to be a beast. I, for one, plan on picking it up the day it's released.
I'll probably stay with my MDK S4 that's on its way to me for a long while. If that one should break and I need a new one... Hard to say what I'd do. The S4 is awesome, and I'm sure the S5 will be an amazing phone, but like stated above, let's be honest, they're going to have that S5 locked up so tight its probably going to be hard to do anything on it.
If the G2 has the removable battery and external SD card, I'd be all over it.

Why is there so less interest in developing/modding Galaxy ALpha?

Hello friends, i use smartphones for a long time now and i love this forum. I remember the first ROM i downloaded from here, it was for the HTC Charmer and it is many years ago. I had beautiful and useful ROMs for my Galaxy S2, S3, S4 but now i got a Galaxy Alpha and i am a little bit disappointed because there is only one ROM for it - why? Is there no interest? Is the phone too new? Is it so difficult to modify the code?
Thanks in advance

Well you don't seem so with small replies like that.
Seriously tho, this phone isn't available in the US besides AT&T and it's seriously locked down. Not selling a phone in the US isn't the end all be all but it really does cut out a pretty big owner base and on top of having a secure boot loader there's no reason to buy it to dev on. It sucks because it's a pretty good phone for people who don't want a phablet.

Ok thank you, now i understand, didn't knew that. Well so i maybe should have taken an S5 instead but the Alpha looks so good...
the other reason , there are barely love for small device anymore in most Asian country.
bigger = better ?
maybe another reason is that 5.0 is coming soon
This is still a very new device and is targeted at a 'top end' user base.
Whilst the US carrier-exclusive deal will not be helping and the small form factor of the phone will put a lot of people off, it is still a superb device and custom ROMs will come in time I feel sure, but will never be on the scale of the amount available for mass-market handsets like the S4 or S5.
