I managed to connect it through the Bluetooth debug and come to the stock recovery, however update from ADB (obviously) and SD do not work. I don't mean to modify the system much but just wanted to change the emoji font. Anyone could help to build the TWRP?

TWRP source code for 1st Gen Moto 360 could be helpful to get an idea?

The issue, AFAIK, is connecting a USB cable to the 2nd gen 360. The 1st gen had contacts on it underneath the band for a homemade USB cable to connect for bootloader unlocking. I haven't seen any teardowns of the new 360 yet, but it is believed that the contacts might be underneath the back panel.

I wish I could tear down my 360, would have definitely done it if I had a spare. My first smartwatch, and I don't want to do something that has unknown conclusions yet. Anyhow, let's see if someone here could do it. Nice share, BTW. :highfive:

Hello,
I bought an external keyboard that connects via the mini usb port. It didn't work, but found a suggestion:
When I first connected my adapter that came with my tablet to the keyboard adapter I was very disappointed that nothing happened. I tried several different browser pages, but nothing happened. I read reviews on here and noticed on about that someone mentioned they changed their USB settings and their keyboard finally started working. So, I immediately went to my Settings, Advanced Settings, and then USB BUS MODE and changed it from DEVICE mode to HOST mode and VOILA - the keyboard immediately started functioning

OTG not in any of the Nook Tablet yet
OTG is not implemented yet on the stock nor current cm10 roms based on what I have asked in this forum for Nook Tablet. I know you can do this with the new nooks that have monochrome display. May I ask where did you read this article?

Were you reading the review for the Nook Color with working usb otg? It does work for that tablet, not the NT though.

I wasn't looking specifically for how to get it working on the tablet, just looking in general for how to do it in android. Hopefully they implement the otg soon
I just downloaded the new cm10 (snappy and no more reboot/sdcard lost errors!!) but there wasn't anything about the type of usb connection in that one either...
Am I not going to be able to use this keyboard? Will I have to break down and buy a price blue tooth one????

At this time the NT does not have usb otg on any ROM, it may in the future, but if and when is not known at this time. The NT will never have bluetooth, Never. It has been well documented why, do a search and read. So a BT keyboard will never work. Is it really that hard to type with your thumbs?

It isn't really a matter of difficulty, it is a matter of duration. I didn't want a full laptop and I like the android os so wanted to try a tablet with a keyboard for my mobile computing needs. I am do a good amount of typing (chapters for novels and such) and prefer a keyboard. I was using my phone before and it was a lot slower than what I can do with a keyboard and got tiring after an hour or so. It isn't detrimental that I can't use a keyboard, just desired.

I bought a Toshiba Thrive 32gb off craigslist for $200. I am now running CM10. I bought it for those exact reasons. It has full sized usb, full sized hdmi, micro usb, full sized sd card expandable to 128 gb, bluetooth capable, gps, 10.1" screen. I use a mouse through usb, bluetooth keyboard, and I hook it up to my TV or
computer monitor and is performs really well as a portable computer with little cost involved.

lol, after spending 150 on the tablet I think that I am going to skip buying another, however I have started looking at other virtual keyboard options and will be trying out a few to see if they can fill the gap until/if they activate the usb otg. Thanks for the info and I will reply if I find a keyboard that I like enough to be useable as a touch typer!!
Hi,
I'm looking for a solution to this problem: I have an ASUS Google Nexus 7 which I mishandled and broke the screen + digitiser to the point where there is absolutely no touch response - The screen however IS still visible. This happened several months ago. I've been searching for ways to retrieve the data on the tablet, but all to no avail.
Here's the case:
-The USB port is fine;
-The tablet is not rooted and never has been;
-USB debugging is not on;
-The tablet is on PTP, not MTP;
-I do have the device driver installed on my PC;
-I'm only looking for the media from the device - none of the apps or app data;
Is there any hope of getting back the media left on the tablet, or will I have to purchase a new digitiser and screen + bezel? I know how it all goes together so it wouldn't be a problem if I had to get a replacement, but I would prefer to do it cost-free if possible.
If anyone can help me out here, it'll be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned it. If it was on MTP (which it should've been ) then this whole situation would've been a lot easier. Unfortunately, because of the broken digitiser, I can't change it either. If i can get remote access to the screen everything should be okay in theory (after I've put the screen back on)

That was one of my initial thoughts, but I was unsure of whether the old-gen Nexus 7 supported OTG and whether you had to have to have a rooted device for OTG. I'm gonna presume you don't need a rooted device for OTG and that my Nexus 7 should work just fine with it since I've had that suggested here, and on Tom's Hardware.

Does anyone have luck to use a USB stick with the Moto Z?
I have an USBc to microUSB adapter
And I am trying to connect this Stick
But without any luck.
This stick works fine on my PC/ Laptop/ Samsung tablet and Note Edge.
Any ideas?
I cannot seem to find any info regarding the MotoZ and OTG connectivity.
Is that a known Motorola problem/limitation?
Thx.

Filers that read our phone's OTG (ZPlay here) are few. Get File Commander, the new Solid, some like Total Commander but it has to make a duplicate.
Music not so much. The filers can hand off to players. But good 192 k and play through there is none. There is Poweramp for play through and hopefully the next version will allow Android 192k. USB Audio PP will not see OTG (plays 192).
---------- Post added at 10:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 PM ----------
It is a limitation that started with MM. DEVs are daunted by the new requirements to get it going.
Thanks. I appreciate your response.
I am not so concerned about the 'filer'- as you call it, I used Root explorer. Neither does the ZPlay do anything fore, as I am using the MotoZ
Thanks.
I was referring to the fact that my OTG storage does not show up on the device.
That's why I asked if anyone had luck on the Moto Z to access an external USB stick.

Does the V30 support USB OTG, to act as USB host mounting an external USB drive?

If anyone answers "yes", please confirm whether you verified this yourself, or just relaying info from another source.

Original thread is a fine place to continue this discussion. I don't see a reason for another.
The reason for a second thread is to put "OTG" front and center.
This is the term for the functionality at issue.
Thanks in advance for any replies helpful with the issue itself.
...
Er, still the other thread works for that. Doesn't matter if you put OTG in the name of the thread or not, it's still the same end result.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but since CHH2 won't let go of a trivial side issue:
Information Architecture: Presenting information in a manner to optimize human reception and assimilation.
In this case: "OTG" in the subject line will catch the attention of more folks looking for that technical term in the titles. Potentially yielding a useful response about the subject issue, that might be missed otherwise.
However, it appears that it also yields at least one responder hung up on the irrelevant and trivial issue of whether a new thread is needed or not. Not helpful to address the issue itself (whether the V30 supports OTG).
If there is an iron rule of the forum that states "only one thread per subject", and if CHH2 is a moderator who elects to delete this one, then get on with it.
Otherwise, helpful responses (about the issue) would be appreciated. Thanks.
...
It's not listed in the specs in a comparison to the LG V20. V20 says yes for OTG, but it's blank for the LG V30. At least it doesn't say no.

The USB OTG Checker app says it IS.
Yes.
Using one of these
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AUKU1OO/
with a card reader plugged in. For whatever reason, Astro can't find the card reader but the default File Manager can.
The default file manager seems to mount it as USB 1 but Solid Explorer can't seem to outright see it. In Solid Explorer you can tap on Photos or Videos and it WILL show the files on the USB mount but it doesn't let you see the entire filesystem. Anyone know what setting needs to be ticked to disable this odd behavior?

Been looking at the Facebook Portal, it's got a USB-C port on the back but according to Facebook's support it's only used "in the factory", so I'm assuming maybe that's something they might use with a flashing tool to reset damaged units. Has anyone messed around with one/found out anything about how it might work? I've noticed that, at least with mine, if I hold down power and the volume up button while it's booting, the screen remains black but the mic light is still on. Thinking this may be some kind of recovery mode perhaps.

Oh definitely not. Wouldn't be caught dead buying one. XD Was gifted one as an early christmas gift by a friend, but trying to decide if it's something I can do anything with before I maybe... return it and get a better alexa-enabled device. Feeling really bad about that though considering they wanted to use it to communicate.
Ah-ha! Alexa enabled, but what powers it? Is it some open source thing? AOSP even?

From what I’ve been able to gather, it’s running on some form of AOSP with a custom Portal skin- haven’t been able to get much more info than that though as the info on the device past what FB has put out publicly is pretty slim. Definitely doesn’t surprise me that it’s an android device though considering that’s just about all FB seems to develop for outside of the web (Oculus Go, Facebook Home, etc.)
Would be really interesting to try using Discord on this device though, and possibly finding a way to disable FB functions. Might make it a good gift then, if not it’s making it really hard to hold onto it.
Edit: This is my source for AOSP, assuming it’s the “Android Open Source Framework” mentioned:
https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/08/facebook-portal/amp/
I got my hands on one (free gift from company) but I'm trying to figure out what to do with it too.
Hello everyone, sorry I am late to the party. It is definitely android. If you run the chromium browser and attempt to open something like a pdf file, chromium will give you an error and ask for download permissions. This error message also gives you a link to the applications settings page from where you get access to some of the settings. No permissions sadly. You can however go in to the battery optimization settings and filter for all apps and get a full list of everything installed. As can be seen in these images on imgur /a/QWqs0pP

We're stoked. We've been using the 15 inch Portal in our conference room. Hooked up a usb-c to HDMI adapter, ran it to our conference room 4K television and bam! Absolutely gorgeous.
Works flawlessly as an output, and even audio (as would be expected) is now running through the monitor.
Oh niiiice ! I actually asked facebook portal customer support, and they said nothin could be done with the usb c port ! It really is a shame cuz some people probably want to output to a bigger screen !
I want to try if usb c headphones and microphones will work. I don't have any around though !
I've tested and seen that I can use the port as a usb c PD charger, it charges my macbook pro and oneplus 6
Maybe we can figure out a way to use ADB to get us into the portal ?
---------- Post added at 05:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:51 PM ----------

USB-C to 3.5 mm audio only alternate mode?
Can anyone please test and let me know if a USB-C to 3.5mm analog audio jack also works - for 3.5 mm jack headphones or speaker out? More specifically, an active adapter because a passive one may not work. Such as this one: amazon.com/Tranesca-Headphone-Adapter-Compatible-Google/dp/B07M6Z2KJ4
What I do know from reading this thread is the Facebook Portal's:
- USB-C Video out (DisplayPort Alternate mode) to monitor works along with audio (monitor passthrough)
- It works as a USB-C power delivery charger
But if audio thru DisplayPort works means only audio to 3.5 mm jack will also work?
Interestingly, the official documentation (portalfb.me/2NAdtz1) claims the audio will continue to come from Portal's speakers. But people here claim it is transmitted to the monitor?
the portal burnt due to an electricity hazard overseas.
I just bought the newest Facebook Portal Mini. it comes with a browsers from Facebook. I was able to make a phone call using duo.google.com then the next day.. I lost permission to the camera: it keeps asking me for permissions.
I think they have some kind of firewall that blocks unusual behaviors

I don't really know how to do those things... But it tried scanning my portal for open ports, no ip adp connection possible. And then, with usb c connected nothing happens with adb. It can't seem to see it !
I tried enabling hidden developpers options by pressing a lot everywhere in the settings, but no luck !
Alrighty, I've got an update for you guys. It seems like FB locked out that PDF trick sadly. However, I found out that if you restart your portal and hold all three buttons down, then plug in the USB-C, it appears as a device named "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3)". Based on what I've seen on a few threads here, that's a utility for reflashing and backing up device firmware. I believe we may be able to do stuff with this.
I am looking into getting the FB Portal TV. If the party on the other end of the connection is using their smart phone or tablet, does the image I am seeing become altered from wide screen to a vertical image
or does the unit adapt to keep the screen filled without becoming distorted in some way?

I have not made any progress at all. I keep checking to see if anyone has done anything at all, but I think these devices are not too popular. Hard to find any information on them at all
So I was able to get fasboot access to my Facebook Portal+ (1st Gen).
If you plug in the power and hold down the vol down + power button. It will show the portal logo on the screen and on a black box it says "Please Reboot...". If you connect to the usb-c port then it looks like there is fastboot access to the device. It's definitely locked down, but it's a start.
I've been trying to figure out how to get adb / sideload access for a while now and this is as close as I've been able to get. I'll let you know if I find out more.
