I am thinking about getting this phone, first samsung, Ive had HTC ones only and I loved them but its time for a change. Anyway I always root and unlock my phones and load roms as I prefer them than stock. I can see this phone has a variety, what is a good or the best or most popular to use for this device?
Also is it hard to unlock and root? With the htc I downloaded an all in one exe file, just installed and it and next next next finished it, even installed recovery automatically etc. I hope this isnt complex on this phone.
PS. Sorry if I posted this on the wrong board, was thinking the Android development but that looks more techy than generic suggestion and opinion from the public

Hey Guys,
I recently got a HTC HD2 as a gift from a friend. I am loving this phone - such a huge screen (I used iPhone 4 recently and it seemed so small then), amazing touch sense and overall experience.
I have been browsing the XDA forums for quite some time. I have few issues/queries that I want to get cleared up:
1. My HTC is locked to T-mobile, USA and I am in Canada. I have been unsuccessful in getting it unlocked. I contacted couple of shops who claimed to unlock it through the code but cudn't get the code. Anybody has any idea why is it hard to get HTC HD2 unlock code? I read somewhere that my IMEI number belongs to the new T-mobile series. Cud that be a problem? What do you guys suggest on getting my phone unlocked? One of the shops told me that they might have to flash the ROM but I don't know what that means....which brings to us to my next question...
2. What does "Flashing the ROM" means? It is about rewiring the ROM? I heard there are custom ROMs. What are custom ROMs? I need to figure out this ROM stuff. I know what is a ROM....I just want to know how this thing and different jargons work wrt Mobile phones.
3. Is there is any benefit of running Andriod (Froyo) on my mobile? I would love to have Andriod since WinMo has forced me to reset the phone more than I have resetted my previous smartphones per year. But, I think Andriod is still in development mode. What are your views on this issue?
I am going to browse the forums more and try to be active here. I hope these queries are a good point to start here.
Thanks in advance.

LMAO! commical how uninformed supposed phone technicians are, , ,no, flashing will have no effect at all on sim lock.
but I don't know what that means....which brings to us to my next question...

think of the windows cd rom, , you put it into a blank computer, and it installs itself, , well a rom is kinda like that. A big file that, when you hard reset (or immediately after a flash) installs itself, complete with all included software, onto your phone. If you flash a new rom, its like using a different windows cd. 'chefs' can 'cook' roms, , get rid of operator added rubbish, add tweaks and programs, etc etc.

read, then read more, then read again. Read the stuff youdont understand too, be a knowledge sponge, soak it alllll up. Everything (and i do mean everything) that you want to ask has alerady been asked, and usually answered, if you trawl through enough threads.
just got a neo MT15i..with no past android experience..first how to tell if my phone is factory unlocked or unlocked with some some other method..it came with some t mobile papers in the box..and if it not factory unlocked then do i need to root it to get updates?
Welcome to using the great phone that is the neo. Have a look around the forums and you will see what what's you can use to root your phone. Don't use ota updates. First t thing to do would be to get the boot loader unlocked so u can flash 2.3.4 on your phone and flash rootxperia to gain root.
Sent from my MT15i using XDA App
thanks for the reply one question..will i lose my carrier unlock if i update via this method?

WTF are you saying? This guy has his first Android, and you want him to unlock the bootloader immediatly?
2.3.4 will come official in October, so if you're not in a rush (I can say that easily @signature ) just wait for it.
I'd recommend to just try out some stuff, download some nice apps and play with your phone. Read XDA, if you understand it a bit, and need some mods to your phone, ask how to do it. For the first weeks, I'd keep off the modding.

I think you won't, carrier unlock is quite hard, but I'm not sure.
Here's an example for carrier unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212405&highlight=carrier+unlock

Well I was a noob as well, still count myself as one sometimes with cooking roms etc but that's not the point, It's not that hard to unlock the bootloader, especially if alejandrissimo helps him and it's worth it to be honest. it's obviously up to him if he wants to do it though, also... carrier unlock can be done as well very easily with alejandrissimo as well, all at the same time, and one day there will be prob the same things like the iphones, 1 click-root/unlock/bootloader unlock etc... and people/noobs/experts/whoever will still fail at it....
I do agree on reading up on XDA a bit though and enjoying the phone and not rushing into things, but if you want to learn, go at your own pace and if you want to dive into doing the good 'ol unlocking bootloaders then go for it and we can always give you advice and help if/when you need it.
lol..thanks for the help guys..i will look around the forum..i dont really think there is a need for rooting my fone rite away..it does wat i want it to do..unlike ios devices which are screaming for a jailbreak right out of the box
No problem there is a lot of info on the forums and we are always around one way or another, here and there, to give advice and help with any issues that may arise
Yeah, enjoy your phone for a while and get used to the o/s and if you want more then go for rooting/unlocking bootloader/themes/overclocking, list goes on.
I hear you about ios devices, 3 phones back i had a iphone 3gs... never again, I had to jailbreak it and even then i felt so... restricted, love android, last 2 phones have been running android. Google (Samsung) Nexus S and now my little and awesome Sony Xperia Neo.
Hello there,
I just got my HTC One X+ and have it all stock.
Only thing i want is to get ROOT acces, so i can use and delete certain apps.
What is the best way to do so?
Dont want to install custom ROMs or Kernels yet.
Also i wonder, if i ROOT it and later on i get a official HTC update, will it un-root again?
Ow btw, when i go to htcdev i cant see the One X+ (i probably overlooking something)
Help me out and i will thank u
Greetz!
I also have another question:
With the One X Plus u get a free urBeats headset if you register it @ HTC.
But on pics ive seen on the internet i see some sort of disk with the free urBeats on them.
i didnt have anything in my package referring to the urBeats > but i have ordered them @ HTC
I just had to upload my purchase paper and my IMEI number.
Hope this is good, anyone knows?
Ty

Bro here is my recommendation...use the following tools from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994961
Also when you go to HTCdev, you dont need to look for the exact One X+, you can just choose any supported device will do.
Personally I am also on stock....have not install custom ROMs yet (waiting for more ROM to come up and stabilize).

I think this one depend on the country where you buy it from?? Some country may have the promo and some not. That is why they need your IMEI so they can determine which stock it is??
Any luck yet?
Also interested if anything has come on this device. Seems like a fairly decent phone for the price ($28.99 - Walmart family mobile) but could definitely use a bloatware lesson lol. If it helps at all I unlocked Developer Options (via the usual way) and it has an option to unlock bootloader...can anyone tell me what happens if I do that...lol before I do that?
Thanks in advance for any tips\tricks anyone can share;

Does anyone know what has become of this?
root
ive rooted phones before but there is no rom available for the z798bl.
I have two of these phones and too much free time.
How can i copy the rom to an sdtcard?
Then i guess id need the android equivlent of Interactive Disassembler Pro to make a rooted rom.
IM new at this, Someone Please Tell Me What needs to be done!
I think the problem is as follows:
There is NO stock ROM for the z798bl available on the web
'
I need to root this ***** because wifihotspot sharing is disabled.
Factors:
Marshmallow 6.0.1 with certain service providers BLOCKS data so:
If you have one z798bl with unlimited data
and another z798bl with no data plan
mMking a hotspot to connect the two phones is Blatantly Broken
Just keeping the rom it has, has anyone ever got root privileges on the Z798BL?

I haven't found anything at all either...then my Laptop took a sh*t on my so I've pretty much tabled it for now but as soon as I can I'm going to go ahead and try my best to make a shiny paper weight brick out of a new one...it's $24.88 at Walmart now so if it works then sweet, if not.../shrug...I've wasted more money on way worse things than that in me life lol. As for putting together your own ROM...I'd say go for it...I'm not quite confident enough with the little bit of experience I have so far to try that but if you do I will help any way I can...You might go look at Googles downloads site...you can download Android sdk Suite for developers onto your PC for free...I think its focused on App Development mainly but it comes with a bunch of other cool stuff too, including a virtual phone that is an Android emulator for testing out your experiments. Didn't mean to write a book here lol but please keep me in the loop and I'll return the favor. ✌

I've found the source to the rom but not allowed to post outside links?

I haven't tried this on the exact phone model you mentioned, but I used it on a Z836BL and it seems to work on any model whatsoever, no root necessary. Cheers!

If anyone has any information at all about successful rooting of this phone, please share with us!
I have noticed some subtle changes in my phone recently despite it not having any updates, and while in the support page for "nearby" I noticed it said that I am running a custom android version.
I have read up lightly on rooting and custom ROMs, mostly here, and my questions are; is this normal? If not what should I do about it? How, and why would this be done?
Edit: my phone is a Galaxy J3 Orbit

Also, this isn't normal but its OK, this shouldn't affect performance in any way, and its way better to have a custom rom

No, but I know exactly when it would have happened. And who was fully capable of it. Who was also the only person with the opportunity to.
And a custom ROM IS way better. If you choose to install one, you choose the one that you install, and complete the whole process in a secure way that best suits your needs. I doubt one that is secretly installed is there for my benefit. And I feel like you should know that
