just got a neo MT15i..with no past android experience..first how to tell if my phone is factory unlocked or unlocked with some some other method..it came with some t mobile papers in the box..and if it not factory unlocked then do i need to root it to get updates?
Welcome to using the great phone that is the neo. Have a look around the forums and you will see what what's you can use to root your phone. Don't use ota updates. First t thing to do would be to get the boot loader unlocked so u can flash 2.3.4 on your phone and flash rootxperia to gain root.

WTF are you saying? This guy has his first Android, and you want him to unlock the bootloader immediatly?
2.3.4 will come official in October, so if you're not in a rush (I can say that easily @signature ) just wait for it.
I'd recommend to just try out some stuff, download some nice apps and play with your phone. Read XDA, if you understand it a bit, and need some mods to your phone, ask how to do it. For the first weeks, I'd keep off the modding.

I think you won't, carrier unlock is quite hard, but I'm not sure.
Here's an example for carrier unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212405&highlight=carrier+unlock

Well I was a noob as well, still count myself as one sometimes with cooking roms etc but that's not the point, It's not that hard to unlock the bootloader, especially if alejandrissimo helps him and it's worth it to be honest. it's obviously up to him if he wants to do it though, also... carrier unlock can be done as well very easily with alejandrissimo as well, all at the same time, and one day there will be prob the same things like the iphones, 1 click-root/unlock/bootloader unlock etc... and people/noobs/experts/whoever will still fail at it....
I do agree on reading up on XDA a bit though and enjoying the phone and not rushing into things, but if you want to learn, go at your own pace and if you want to dive into doing the good 'ol unlocking bootloaders then go for it and we can always give you advice and help if/when you need it.
lol..thanks for the help guys..i will look around the forum..i dont really think there is a need for rooting my fone rite away..it does wat i want it to do..unlike ios devices which are screaming for a jailbreak right out of the box
No problem there is a lot of info on the forums and we are always around one way or another, here and there, to give advice and help with any issues that may arise
Yeah, enjoy your phone for a while and get used to the o/s and if you want more then go for rooting/unlocking bootloader/themes/overclocking, list goes on.
I hear you about ios devices, 3 phones back i had a iphone 3gs... never again, I had to jailbreak it and even then i felt so... restricted, love android, last 2 phones have been running android. Google (Samsung) Nexus S and now my little and awesome Sony Xperia Neo.

Have been reading any and all Rooting Posts and I have come to the conclusion that as of now, Most, if not all of the Rooting techniques are a shot in the dark.
If there is one good way that is reliable and doesn't screw up one thing or another than I have not seen it.
Example......Superoneclick....works on one phone but not the next....Roms....need more fixes to get to work than Microsoft.....
Tell me is there a proven way to unlock the bootloader, Root the phone and get Gingerbread to work fully ?
I may be new to this site and believe me I would love to have a open phone....But I have other things to do than F around trying to get a already KickAss phone to work.....Just saying....

you need to do more reading, no one uses superoneclick for the atrix... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165791
Read the stickies..
Have you ever opened the android dev section?
Almost everything is in the sticky thread of clown.. With faqs guides etc..
Unlock your bootloader depending what atrix you have(att or international), then install the tenfars port of CWM4, and then you can root using the CWM root method..

To build on your Microsoft comment...............Some software is not compatible with all versions of Windows. The Atrix came out with Windows 95, has made it to XP, and with GB will be Windows 7. If you are not happy with the devs work, what they have done for everyone, and can't filter through the threads to get what you want, maybe you should get an iPhone and stick Cydia on it!......Or get a Windows phone because you won't have to "fix" anything on it!
If you want help, then you have started out the wrong way. Your post needs to be objective, and not flaming all the work others have done because you can't implement any of it, and are confused.
Root, ROM's, etc., do not need a bunch of fixes............you just have to READ so you know which ones work together for what you want. If you had actually taken the time, you would know that the bootloader has been unlocked, root is working, and GB is awesome. You just have to check the instructions for what you want on your Atrix, whether it be AT&T, Orange, Bell, etc.
Personally, I am on an AT&T Atrix 4G with unlocked bootloader, rooted, with GB 4.5.91, and have absolutely no complaints ot problems!
Since you don't want to F around, watch that door................it's heavy and swings closed fast.........wouldn't want it to hit you between the buttocks on the way out!
Bell ATRIX, unlocked bootloader, rooted, running 2.3.4. No problems

As the title say's I'm creating this thread for all us carrier locked Xperia S owners to subscribe too. this way we can subscribe to this thread and keep it updated on the latest news of root or unlocking the boot-loader.
YOU CAN'T ROOT LOCKED BOOTLOADERS
I will post new info when I hear something new. Feel free to add news as well. Lets just keep the comments about the topic. No need to fill it with junk that doesn't belong here.
Maybe true maybe not. Silly tech support, they don't have clue. Should have known better.
I talked with sony today and they assured me my rogers branded phone will be getting ICS and the updates will be around may 18th. I kept telling them if my phone is branded to rogers it can't happen as rogers needs time to add their apps and stuff. again sony said they are doing it different with the xperia s and all phones will be getting ics at the same time. may 18th.
so i don't believe them but maybe if more people call we can get a better idea when it's coming.
If you call and hear something different please share in the thread.
Now can someone stick this please? And maybe write YOU CAN'T ROOT LOCKED BOOTLOADERS in big red letters in the OP.

Don't you think that will change in the future?
That's what the thread is for, news about unlocking un-unlockable bootloaders or rooting without it.
I needed this thread XD Thank you mate, Im subscribed now to know inmediatly when I will be able to root my phone!
however it is a bit annoying If this thread is filled with useless posts, just as my one at this moment. there isnt any way to subscribe only to editions in the first message?
I just thought I would shed a little ray of hope here
Apparently there is a way to root with locked bootloaders for official ICS on the Arc S, Ray and Neo V
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600728
So maybe when we get ICS we can root without unlocking the bootloader
Yeah, the problem is when we will get ICS....we want root now! xD
Got phone from Orange, locked to Orange. Locked bootloader.
Asked for unlock key, threatened to leave.
Received unlock key. Phone unlocked. Surprise - Bootloader unlockable after restart *yipee*
Left Orange for good.
Ok I just had a thought and would like your feedback.
I have my xperia sim unlocked.
what im thinking is putting in my none rogers sim,(my other sim is smart, go Philippines).
then updating my phone with sony software and when it say's i have the latest and ask if i want to repair it. select yes and maybe it will the n download another version of the software because it knows the phone is sim unlocked.
what yeah think? would that be even possible to have the software change the ability to have the phone say yes to unlock boot loader.
Not a chance!!!
The bootloader is as it says
"a bootloader"
That means it is a seperate part of the operating system.
When you update/repair your normal running rom/operating system that is the ONLY part that gets updated/repaired.
Your bootloader is never touched

Cool, what does it mean for us looked down users?
Replied from my little computer, Xperia S.
Not much, since I have no idea what to do with it... it's basically that I found the "test point" pin, and that it still behaves in the same way as it does the the 2011 locked Sony phones.
However, that's the simple part, now we need to wait for the unlock tokens to become available or however the old way worked on the old phones.
UPD: no, it looks like the permissions are correct on stock rom, so it won't work.

Sony XPERIA Z3v D6708
Intro
First, thanks to Pyres for the original Z3 root bounty thread, myself for the Z3v root bounty thread , and tuzonghua for the D6116 root bounty thread , our similarly mistreated sister device. As you all know, the root method created by zxz0O0 has long since granted us Verizon users root on our devices. But it's time we make a new bounty. The last hoorah for our poor little Z3v -- bootlader unlock.
Objective
With root achieved, the main objective of the bounty is to achieve bootloader unlock on the Z3v which, given the fact that Verizon has yet to release Lollipop OTA Verizon took this long to release 5.1.1, and will probably never release Marshmallow, would mean a great deal to us Z3v owners who want to run custom ROMs.
Claiming requirements - Bootloader
In order to claim this bounty, you will need to fulfill each and every one of this points (2 is optional but helpful):
1. Be the first person to create or find a method to unlock the bootloader on this device in any form;
2. BONUS Prove that the TA partition can also be backed up, and later restored with little issue, in order to maintain some Sony features that would be otherwise be lost if accidentally tampered with;
2. Give proof of point #1/#2 by posting an adequate quantity of screenshots to illustrate it, together with step by step instructions, in a fashion such that everyone can follow them and reproduce the exploit;
3. Wait for at least 10% of pledgers (fastest quorum achieved between per capita and per pecunia criteria*) to give confirmation about the method functionality;
4. Claim your bounty via PM from pledgers.
*i.e. the fastest between 10% of the number of people and 10% of the amount of money pledged as bounty.
Payment will be processed between each member and the bounty collector via PM on an individual basis.
List of Pledges
1. er1c1996 - $20.00
2. MGSBigBoss - $40.00
3. glasslung - $20.00
4. RoyalDrew - $20.00
5. ktnemec - $10.00
6. AddictedToGlass - $20.00
Total Pledge: $130.00
Rules of this bounty thread
- Please note before making a post in the thread please refer to the below list to see if your post will be acceptable. If it is not part of this list, your post will be reported and you may risk getting an infraction as per forum moderators.
- Please note you may not make any specific restrictions or requirements that aren't listed in the OP. By making a post with your contribution price you are agreeing to paying out based on all terms listed in OP only and nowhere else.
- Please be advised that if Sony is to release an official method of rooting without unlocking the bootloader or restoring TA partitions lost by officially unlocking the bootloader (extremely unlikely but must be accounted for) prior to any member of XDA's submission, this bounty automatically becomes invalidated.
- Please do not PM a pledge, for it will not be counted.
List of Acceptable Posts:
- New bounty submission or increase of current bounty;
- Questions or assistance in development of recovery or bootloader unlock method;
- Questions and answers regarding bootloaders on this device;
- Questions and answers regarding the nature of lockdown on this device;
- Questions and answers regarding kernel and bootloader-related exploits;
- Any kind of updates about unfinished or still work-in-progress methods that would at the moment of posting be unfit for fulfilling the bounty;
- Bounty's fulfillment.
I will start the bounty with $20.00.
I'll add $40
Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

An update for those of you who are interested, there is a currently unknown but apparently reputable source who has achieved a bootloader unlock (on a single device in a very specific case.) This user is working with GigaSPX but I will at this time not disclose any other details (I'll leave it ot him if he wants to say anything else about it.) Stay tuned, this is going to get real interesting soon enough...

I was reading about rooting a philips i think or panasonic android tablet . Has anyone tried anythig similar with the z3v. Im sorry for the lack of details , i will have to look that up again and see if i can get more info to explain it better. And also im sorry if this responce is not right for this bounty thread.

Ok, what i meant was. Has anyone used adb, and fastboot. They did that on some forum i was readig in and then typed command in fastboot "fastboot oem unlock". Then went bback a menu or so and there was an unlock button at that point that they hit and it unlocked .Im pretty sure this has been tried, but wanted to mention it to make sure it wasnt an option with our z3v.

That is the standard way to unlock the bootloader and the way to officially unlock devices that have it allowed. However, some xperia devices and all Z3v have this blocked. The point of this thread is to find an unofficial way to unlock and bypass the official block on this.
Oh, ok. I didn't know that was the normal way it was done. I had just read about it and thought u guys would kno about it but maybe not so i wanted to make sure.
I think I'd pitch a few bucks in if we can get interest again. This thing would be just about perfect with custom roms. Making do with Root and Xposed for now.
Maybe a big $100 bounty if someone throws something together in a month from now.

so this is now Impossible due to the kernel in 5.1.1 the kernel was set to debug in 5.0.2 and now they added some extra crap to 5.1.1 so even if u revert u still have that addition to your kernel and zachpope and i have upgraded so there's no way to test it and we couldn't have it, so what would be the point. I'm assuming most of you have upgraded to 5.1.1 also. It was a lot of work anyway and we flashed z3 ROMs they didn't work it would have been nice to try a z2 ROM before we lost this as it may have worked.

you might want to wait a few months for development and root. And yes Verizon hates us although this could have been the same with the z3, it just took 10 months longer to get 5.1.1 I'm not sure. The only phone this bootloader thing could be useful for to my knowledge would be the guys stuck on 5.0.2 with T-Mobile if they are still stuck on 5.0.2. And again it was a lot of work and kinda useless for our z3v =z2/z3 hybrid.

Wait for development of the S7/Edge? Yeah that's understandable, and to this day, I have no idea what this "KNOX" thing is for Samsung.
Our phones are great, but it's already outdated by new and newer things.

yea development for the s7. Knox is a Samsung pay thing I believe. Giga I would seriously consider not buying a Verizon branded phone if I was you. Look at all the crap Verizon's put us through with the z3v. If I was you and I had to have an s7 I would sell my z3v for I duuno $175
And bye s7 outright if u do that and ur not under contract your line cost is $20 a month instead of 40 so either way your going to pay 500+ for the s7 when its all said and done. Its your choice if you want to risk it. What about the x-performance are you not interested in that.
I am thinking about getting this phone, first samsung, Ive had HTC ones only and I loved them but its time for a change. Anyway I always root and unlock my phones and load roms as I prefer them than stock. I can see this phone has a variety, what is a good or the best or most popular to use for this device?
Also is it hard to unlock and root? With the htc I downloaded an all in one exe file, just installed and it and next next next finished it, even installed recovery automatically etc. I hope this isnt complex on this phone.
PS. Sorry if I posted this on the wrong board, was thinking the Android development but that looks more techy than generic suggestion and opinion from the public

Also interested if anything has come on this device. Seems like a fairly decent phone for the price ($28.99 - Walmart family mobile) but could definitely use a bloatware lesson lol. If it helps at all I unlocked Developer Options (via the usual way) and it has an option to unlock bootloader...can anyone tell me what happens if I do that...lol before I do that?

root
ive rooted phones before but there is no rom available for the z798bl.
I have two of these phones and too much free time.
How can i copy the rom to an sdtcard?
Then i guess id need the android equivlent of Interactive Disassembler Pro to make a rooted rom.
IM new at this, Someone Please Tell Me What needs to be done!
I think the problem is as follows:
There is NO stock ROM for the z798bl available on the web
'
I need to root this ***** because wifihotspot sharing is disabled.
Factors:
Marshmallow 6.0.1 with certain service providers BLOCKS data so:
If you have one z798bl with unlimited data
and another z798bl with no data plan
mMking a hotspot to connect the two phones is Blatantly Broken
Just keeping the rom it has, has anyone ever got root privileges on the Z798BL?

As for putting together your own ROM...I'd say go for it...I'm not quite confident enough with the little bit of experience I have so far to try that but if you do I will help any way I can...You might go look at Googles downloads site...you can download Android sdk Suite for developers onto your PC for free...I think its focused on App Development mainly but it comes with a bunch of other cool stuff too, including a virtual phone that is an Android emulator for testing out your experiments. Didn't mean to write a book here lol but please keep me in the loop and I'll return the favor. ✌

I haven't tried this on the exact phone model you mentioned, but I used it on a Z836BL and it seems to work on any model whatsoever, no root necessary. Cheers!
