huawei mate 8 vs motorola x pure edition - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What do you guys think is better for my dad..
The heaviest thing he ever does on his phone is play candy crush saga or jelly splash (i think that's the correct name of the game).. anyways in my country I can get the pure for about $120 cheaper.. than the mate 8
I know everything about the two devices..
camera wise they are more or less the same..
the motorola has dual speakers.. worse battery.. worse processor not sure about the gpu..
so basically what he does is call (he makes many calls..) and maybe some google maps from time to time and some candy crush saga and facebook .. and that's it!
so what do you guys think he should get

nokia lumia 710 or samsung galaxy r

First of all i am sorry, i think i did not post it in the right place...but then again i couldn’t find any better place...
Well topic tells it all i am really confused between the two phones which one should i get...
Price of both phones is the max my wallet will allow me to go for
In India Nokia Lumia 710 is available for 18k~350USD
And as Samsung reduced the galaxy r price its around 20k~390USD
What i do with a phone is
1) Text a lot...i mean seriously a lot
2) Would like to play good quality H.D games
3) Decent camera....this is fulfilled by both of them so no issue here
4) A nice screen though Lumia 710 has a bit smaller than galaxy r but then that compromise i can make
What’s confusing me is that
with Nokia Lumia 710 i get a very nice ui and i personally like its interface very much one of the main reason for going for this phone and then the sns and single inbox thing just appeals me.... though am not sure how well it handle H.D games and i know there is no front facing camera but i think i will hardly miss it cause not once i have made a video call
what appealed me in Samsung galaxy r is the dual core 1 ghz cpu...with NVidia tegra2 and the big screen size that’s the only thing that i like about it rather am not sure if i should go for Samsung or not my past experience with Samsung were not so good....also i personally (remember this just my opinion) hate the android ui as such and specially with the touch wiz of Samsung’s....even as an OS i don’t know why but it feels kinda cheap
Had there a phone in same price with spec as of galaxy r with mango as OS there would have been no doubt for me
So what i wanna know will Lumia 710 compete with performance of dual core cpu of galaxy r???
In H.D gaming and all that
Any help will be greatly be appreciated
p.s will Lumia 710 be eligible for updates like Apollo or winpho 8....too soon to ask but still....
Sliding about the OS, the Lumia will be faster than the Galaxy R, but as you mention gaming, the Galaxy R will be a better choice, it's raw power will come through there, and there are a lot more games for Android than there are for WP.
For what it's worth, Android has a combined inbox as well.
thank you for your reply by "sliding about OS" you meant browsing through menus right???
well i am not particularly concerned about the number of games currently present.....windows phone is rather a new platform lets give it time and am sure it will get atleast all the big titles in future...
now seriously considering galaxy r....thanks again
Yeah pretty much, and web browsing, it's fast at that too.
well as i read through the reviews by different source all say lumia or windows phone par se is optmized enough for all tasks and i heard browsing is pretty good in both of them aint it??

I purchased the 710 here in the USA on Thursday. It is not my primary phone. I bought it for 1 reason. I've never had a nokia before, and I saw the 900 at CES.
With that said, the 710 is a solid little phone. Battery life has been good. Browsing is fast. Windows phone is easy to get used to. Apps are easy to download. I've spent the last 7 months with various android phones...key here is the word various. Too many phones, too many versions of the os, too many bugs, too many excuses. Windows phone hardware is catching up. The os is already on track.
For me the 710 was very cheap, 19 USD. I would have paid the full price.

[Q] New phone (Denmark) 530 USDish

Hey guys yet another of these threads as i couldnt find a precise enough answer for what i was looking for.
So i live in Denmark and i was thinking max 3000 DKR which is about 530 USD
here is a website where you can see the danish prices (i think phones are pricey in denmark compared to most of the world)
edbpriser .dk/telefoni/mobil/mobiltelefon-u-abn.aspx (i havent got enough posts to post links but i hope this is okay)
right now i got a htc hero but its touchscreen tend not to work, i have read the tricks to fix it but id rather buy a new phone cause i think its too slow (even with a 1.6 speed rom)
1. max 3000 DKR / 530 USD
2. A phone that the community like making roms for I like to try out new roms and i like to push the phone to the limit.
3. It has to be an android phone and it would be soo lovely if it have an official ICS rom or just an community ICS rom .
4. I am a bit against Sony (Ericsson) because they love making new codecs and special sony sd cards and what not but if that isnt the case with their phones then its okay.
5. It would be nice with an decent camera or in other words a camera that dont make you go "time to take an picture oh wait my phone takes forever to take a picture/has too bad auto focus lets just forget about that picture"
And another question although it depends on the person i guess, when is a display too big? right now with my htc hero the size is 3,2" and i find it hard to imagine having a 4" phone in my pocket so if you got any thoughts on that it would be nice to hear em
Thanks!
-Hapse
I know you said max 3k, but samsung galaxy s2 (around 3,4k) would probably give you the most bang for the buck. Good performance, nice camera and the community is large for roms.
However i think 4,3" is too large for myself (having 4") ^^

yea i looked at the galaxy s2 in the shop and wow 4,3" is big! i dont know if i can get used to it but then again i said the same when i went from 32" to 42" on my tv and now i just feel like its a standard size but thank you for your reply
anyone else got some thoughts/recommendations?
Jeg har selv lige købt en Galaxy Nexus (hehe danish), but if you can stretch uour price range just a bit, I would go for the Samsung SII. It has the most bang for the buck.
That phone is still super fast, has a very nice display and takes good pictures. ICS has just been released ans it has LOTS of rom support! I would have bought that, if I hadn't already set my mind on the Nexus
I know you can get it cheap in Elgiganten.
Otherwise the bew Lumia Windowsphone is quite nice too
By the way, the screen will not be a problem, when the phone is as thin as it is! My Nexus has a 4.65" and I can't imagine having a smaller screen. Your phone becomes so much more than phone. It' infinitaly better to browse on, game on, use apps on, watch videos on etc... Trust me you will not regret it! Unless you have small hands... I can't type on less than a 4"
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
i guess ill have a look at it again in the shops tak for dit svar
more replies are of course welcome

[OPINION] Xperia Users who are considering Samsung Galaxy S3

Hi Guys,
I have used Xperia X10, Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia S and I am finding it really difficult to think about another brand !!!
I just want to know the opinion of Xperia users (Xperia S/Arc S), do you guys thinking about moving to Samsung Galaxy S3?
Actually I have used Xperia S for a short time & returned the set due to:
1. Built Issues - lower part (below the transparent strip) was very loose, the phone looks very fragile, once dropped, its gonne (i hate using cases)
2. No Physical Button - I really missed the physical button (I know its personal choice), galaxy S3 has one single button.
3. Still lagging - the phone still lags, Xperia promoted this too much but I can still lag while switching screens.
4. Camera is not so good - I find my 8MP cam of Xperia Arc far better than XS.
5. Everybody hates the flip covers - common problem.
Regarding Galaxy S3 - I know its not beautiful design but it has got power, I have Galaxy Note and I know its a beast.
Note: I just need opinions so no arguments or word wars please
i never thought of samsung, moreover iproducts are costly.
And main thing is i don't have any problem with my xperia s currently and i am happy with it.
Not the galaxy s3. If the problems I have with the xs are not solved I would consider the one x.
Wouldn't think of it.
My reasons in a nutshell:
Too ugly (blah design), bad screen (pentile so not true HD), not much of an upgrade (more cores isnt always better).
by the way, there was already an opinion thread on the S3 made, and it got closed because it went a bit....south I guess.
you can see more opinions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637191
and I hope this thread won't turn out like the last one, but yea...
I want powerful phone this time, dont want to buy n to make my phone wrking better by rooting !!!
It should run smooth...
I am waiting for SG3 & XGX.
I really liked the smoothness of HTC One X !!!
Good option.
from xperia PLAY
Well if you want power above all, the One X or the SGS3 wouldn't be a bad option.
I don't know if it's still a problem though, but the One X was a battery vampire I hear.
I myself have thought about a Razr (not easily available here) or HTC phone (One S) before moving over to the S. I don't really like sense though, but the design of HTC devices never hit the spot, so picked the S in the end.
I don't know how you will be lag-wise, as android itself has a sort of lag by design. You may have returned your device within 15min I read, but you didn't really give it enough time to win your heart. It is a powerful device without even needing to do anything to it.
But yes, for benchmarks above all, those two devices would be the best option currently. Or you can wait for the Mint to release and not have a brand dilemma at all . For actual daily use, I am not sure you will see a difference, as the S is already mostly butter smooth and has the design factor as well.
My reason was this..
PURCHASED XPERIA S and RETURNED within 15 minutes !!!
Guys,
Today I make up my mind n decided to purchase xperia S, enough waiting for GX/Hayabusa..
But once purchased, while playing with it, I found that the lower part of the XS (below the transparent strip) is loose, I can move that part n looks pathetic
I went to the store, he exchanged immediately with another one, that too was not looking very solid !!!
Its just me unluckily or luckily saw that or its design/built issue

Your luck, probably early batch. 12w11 here, the build is rock solid, even port flaps.
Same here. No build Quality issues at all. Mine is 12W16.
The port flaps also seem well built. As for lag, I don't think GS3 would be noticeably smoother in daily usage than XS. XS is already almost on par with Galaxy Nexus and Htc One X in terms of real life usage even with Gingerbread.
ICS update should make things even smoother.
As for the GS3, nope I won't buy a Samsung phone ever. The GS3 design is a joke and its too big for my taste. Plus has an inferior camera, and a much less sharp screen with over saturated colors. No thanks
These no. 12w11, 12w16 are written on back right? After removing the back case???
Or is there any way to identify the batch seeing the Box itself!!
from xperia PLAY
Mate are you serious? Haven't we already had a thread like this that got kicked to the bottom of the forum?
Found here THREAD CLOSED
Again this is for the General discussion thread not for the Xperia S forum.
Not starting a flame war, just stating fact via my opinion.

Im staying with my XS.
Main reson is the design that looks like no other mobile out there.
And i a everyday use, i dont think ill notice the difference in dual vs. quad power.
The screen size is allso a problem for SIII. Its not the size of the boat, its the motion of the ocean thats important.
We've been through all this before!!

windows phone 8

I just sold the wave 2 ... it was a really nice phone.
I was very close, but unfortunately could not go on like this .. so I just bought a samsung atu s ...
is gorgeous and it is super fast .. I recommend it to everyone ... and I also add that WP8 is fantastic super fast and intuitive, with the app will not be at the level of Android but there are better and more useful than sufficient.
The point?
Wave is compact (all phones these days are unusably big)
It has an amoled screen (wave 1 does, by far the best tech in screens)
Replaceable battery (bought two 1800mah ones, they last forever)
Runs android, the most fully featured mobile os by far (both in customizations and apps)
After disallowing it to keep background process it's uber fast.
I don't mean to diss your taste in phones (apart from being off topic posting here) but i can hardly find a phone as good as my wave released these days. I do not buy a new phone not due to a lack of funds, but due to the fact that *that* good phones are not being made anymore.
I am not really sure where this post belongs, but it doesn't belong here....so thread closed.

Samsung To Discontinue Galaxy Alpha Line

Samsung set to discontinue Galaxy Alpha in favor of cheaper phones
The*Galaxy Alpha*might have been among the best phones Samsung ever produced — it's certainly*the prettiest*— if it weren't for a couple of stumbles: the battery didn't last long enough and its full flagship price forced it to compete against better-rounded rivals. Now, just a few brief months after its introduction, the Alpha is reportedly being supplanted by its successor Galaxy A5, which will take over as the leading Samsung handset for the mid-range market.
ET News*reports that the*Galaxy A5, which launched in China last month, is being brought over to South Korea as part of Samsung's effort to "take the bull by the horns" and*reorganize its slumping smartphone division. The 5-inch A5 is a continuation of the Alpha's design philosophy, emphasizing thinness and higher-quality metal construction, though it opts for a tamer spec sheet that will allow it to be priced at a more competitive 400,000 won (roughly $360). The report states that the A5 will be arriving in Samsung's home country in January or February, while the Galaxy Alpha will be phased out as production ramps down once the current inventory of materials is exhausted.

too sadly, what worry me is updates
Hope they maintain the updates
Just read the article myself and copied the link and went to XDA to make a post about it. You did it before me.
It pisses me off tho. They finally started making a decent specced phone with a quality feel, somewhat at least. I was hoping they'd continue and perfect it with future models. A5 sounds like a device I would never buy. Specs wise I'm reluctant I bought the Alpha to start with. Exynos is just never good. But the phone itself is decent and I have no battery quirks. That prolly has something to do with me being very introverted and I spend like 2 hours a month on calls.
To me, having a decent community for my phone on XDA is also a huge factor. The problem to me with Samsung will always be their Exynos processors. It makes developing for the device so much harder. Now for the Alpha another problem rises, it will be discontinued so it's limited how many people will ever get their hands on one now since dropped prices and supply will go hand in hand and eventually there will be no more phones. I haven't owned a Samsung phone for years simply because they chose their own noob processor and I returned because of build quality. This was a bad decision from Samsung and I feel like they don't really understand. Making more mid-range devices will not make more sales for them. It never has. I work as an IT administrator and we actually use mid-range Samsung devices. People with iPhones and such report "sluggish" behavior. And all I can say is.. Yeah, when you've tried a decent processor it's hard using a handset that uses some old cheap processor for power. It just wont feel as fluent. Even the common end user will notice that a phone runs sluggish.
It's my last Samsung device (for the time being) and I'm somewhat sad cause the S2 and the Galaxy Nexus was my first two decently specced Androids back in the day when they released. I'm sad that Samsung can't get their act together and decide what they want from their phones. Oh well, I'm just ranting.
All in all I hoped for Samsung to continue the fashion with a nicely specced hanset with below 5 inch screen. Guess all we'll get is the A5 or a bigger S5/6 or a Note. I'm just sick of the hype around big handsets. I have my tablet if I want a big screen for something. iPhone has like 2 models atm. - Why can't Samsung just like kick out a ****ty phone, a nice small phone, and then some beefed up S5/6 and a Note for the people that demands a phone on roids. I don't see why you need so many different handsets. All in all it doesn't matter if you choose a S4 Mini or a Core Plus or a Young or a Neo. They are all horrible old devices and they will not be up to standards. Focus on one of them, give em a touch-up.
Sorry, sorry, sorry. Now I'm really worried that this device wont even see half of the dev that happend on the Tab Pro that at least got a CM12 Lollipop release. Sigh.
Merry Christmas guys, and a happy new year.
- @samsung ,you done slipped up again. Make up your mind.
As long as it gets the update to Android 5 I couldn't care less. The Alpha is a beast and I've been very happy with it even coming from an S5. This bad boy has done me just fine, waiting for an S6 with the same quality as the Alpha, Samsung had better deliver or I'll be looking elsewhere to devote my loyalty to.
On the other hand....that is good news....
If sammy stops alpha, it will get a high after-sales value, it will be a rare collectible device,
ofc im happy with it, i do not want my phone to be in everyone's hands
Very sad news , i am very happy with my Alpha and this is Perfect phone.
Just bought it 20 days ago.
Why they want to discontinue
I just ordered the note 4 and it should be here tomorrow. With the new thinner design philosophy the bigger phones don't feel that bad when holding them. The alpha was a nice phone but the lagginess really got to me. I came from the Nexus 5, once you go smooth it's hard to go back to laggy. The note 4's display is just phenomenal to, can't wait to get it. I wish they would have waited a few days to announce this though, now the value on this phone will go down like mad.
I guess it's no surprise since this phone had little impact in the west. I don't think I will ever buy a carrier exclusive phone ever again.
omg i will never buy anything from samsung ever again.I dont know what happening to me first i planned to buy the Z2 then my cousin said Sony is no good buy Samsung, instead I was like okay.Im buying The Alpha even though I never ever like samsung phone but this phone look really good. And now sam**** is doing this to all of us(the alpha's owner) but i hope we still got update from sam**** because in xda there's not alot developer for this phone
ps1:sorry for being rude im really piss of right now

How RUMORS of samsung starting to stop manufacturing of galaxy Alpha impacts usability of the phone? It seems, that Alpha will have Lollipop update. :fingers-crossed:
I just don't get all the rage coming from you guys. At least in Latvia it seems to be more popular within youth than SGS5. And it is cheaper on contract (monthly fees) than SGS5 or Z3C.... Developers will do their work, just wait. Coming from Galaxy 3 (i5800) I can say that slow progress at the start leads to better community in future, still love that phone .... And yeah, at the end there were like 4-8 real developers (everything started with one guy who made several custom kernels and later ported CM ROMs to Galaxy 3, others came and gone over the years, but each left their impact on development for the device), some themers and few system optimisers, but progress they made TOGETHER for that phone in terms of speed and functionality was huge.

We dont mm know.
Samsung has yet too announce anything.
And to people thinking their phone "rare" your not going to magically make huge profit. The phone is not sought after and its definitely not "rare", it has low production to meet low demand.

yeah if the phone is rare its's very popular in the past and now it's discontinued or hard to buy. But this alpha is defferent i mean this phne is good at design and specs but price is abit high i think,no one really use it so it's not rare at all.Over all i love this phone but not Samsung.

This is bad news Lollipop update ok, but what's next? If Alpha will discounted after Lollipop we can flash CM or other custom ROMs, but they will not support heart rate monitor, LTE-A and fingerprint scanner.
Of course, this is a small sacrifice for newest software. But I would not want to lose these functions

Well it's not like Google is going to release something huge as lollipop in 1-2 years so wouldn't expect Samsung to support newer androids than that either.
If you want good android version support, you bought a very wrong device.
Ranking:
Best support = nexus devices. (and google versions)
Second best = flagships, like s5, with qualcomm chipset.
Third = other qualcomm chipset devices
Fourth = flagships with Exynos chipset (example our device)
Fifth = other Exynos chipset devices.

Exynos 5430 is much better than s801 or may be s805 .
i have compared my Alpha with with friend's Xperia z3 , htc m8 , and all i can say is my is faster ,
i have compared loading time of Asphalt 8 , Brother in arms 3 , Gangstar vegas, modern combat 5 and all i can say is its loading faster on mine , s801 is no where nearer .
Also in multitasking , i found my Alpha more responsive , Fluid .
i never liked Nexus devices , used nexus 5 for 10 days , and ditched that Garbage looking and garbage feeling Stock android , and its having Zero functionality compared to our Alpha , if new Nexus 6 is For even 300 $ , still i will not get it :silly:

For example Note II with Exynos was released in 2012 and get Lollipop update in 2015. Samsung complies with the terms of updates (Google says about 18 month of updates). If Alpha will recieve update in spring-2016 - this good, but I'm afraid that because of the discontinue that will not happen.
I do not want something fantastic, do not want the latest software among the first. I just want to support. I want a new smartphone does not forget
