When opening my phone work the knock code, it says loading for half a second. It does that on stock unrooted and o.j. rooted with greasepop.
Any one else having this?
It doesn't bothern.a. me per say, I just want to make sure that there isn't a bigger issue.

Yeah, there's another thread around here about it. I had it too. Got rid of knock code and fingerprint unlock and I never see it anymore.
The weird thing was that it didnt do it when I first enabled fingerprint and knock code... But then one day there it was. So annoying!

For the most part I have read that the replacement phones are not harware locked. The few that come back that are hareware locked are the exception to the norm. Is this true from those of you who have gotten a replacement phone?
I'm curious about this as well since I have one on the way...any ideas?

I soft-bricked my phone that was hardware locked and had to order a replacement. My new one is not hardware locked.

can you tell if it's a new or refurbished one?
No. Do you know how I could tell?
Hey there! First post and maybe I get to help someone?
I haven't replaced my phone yet, but it started out unlocked and ended up hardware locked after rooting using the OCLF V2+ and then un-rooting by reversing the procedure (was in a panic regarding the OTA update).
Not sure if that's an "unintended feature" or just something boneheaded I did, but I don't think it had anything to do with the JI6 update as I haven't seen any notifications yet - seem to still be JFD.
I found out I was hardware locked when I tried to re-root again later in hopes of making a backup should catastrophe strike OTA. Resumed panic mode until I found this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802763&page=2
The files posted by untermensch there reportedly resolve a hardware lock.
I was trying figuring out how to actually use these files in the stickies when I stumbled across this alternate method of rooting, and opted to try it out first. Easy-peasy: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786877
So now I'm rooted and was able to perform a nandroid backup , though I checked and I'm still hardware-locked... I reckon if the day comes I want to fix that for some other purpose I'll sleep easy knowing that method linked above is there to fall back on.
[EDIT]: apologies for the formatting above... evidently I'm not permitted to post links to within the forums yet
in case you're wondering, there IS a fix for hardware lock in the dev section.
Heres the thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305
I just swapped my sim and sd to my replacement phone. It is definitely not hardware locked.
The only thing different I've noticed is the sticker underneath the battery cover looks different than the one on my original vibrant. It looks sort of generic. I remember the original having a samsung graphic on it, where as this looks very plain, with just a minimal amount of text on it.
It did get the ota software update minutes after I swapped over. Runs decent.

cool good to know I have read some ppl have had problems running the hardware fix. It would be nice to have a excape plan lol. Is there any way to tell if that one was refurbished I only ask because you brought up the sticker issue. Either way it is a lot better than my bricked phone
A few days ago, i picked up a used EVO LTE. I didn't test thoroughly enough before I handed over the cash, and the cameras (front and back) are not responding. I bought it used, knowing it was rooted and emailed when I got home to see if I could get a history of flashes or something (obviously with no response)...
What happens is the default camera app force closes before an image is available, sometimes giving a "toast" error, sometimes not. I have tried other apps from the Play Store and none of them work, with many errors of "Cant find the camera".... The "mirror" app in my ROM shows only a black screen (which has been my only way of testing the front camera).
I'm wondering what sorts of things I can do to rule out software... I've tried restoring using the VipeRUU tool as well as 3 custom roms, two sense based and then CM 10.1... I'm thinking it might be hardware related, but for both cameras to go out would have to be main board related, correct?... Id think if one camera was broken, at least the other would work... Is there anything I can do before ripping it apart to try and fix a hardware problem I haven't Identified?
I saw some people saying that Kernels arent always compatible with one another, and someone that isnt flashing compatable roms with the kernel can bork things.... I have some experience rooting and flashing (all on a Samsung, other than 72 hours on this HTC) so most of this is pretty foreign to me. I've never tried flashing a kernel, and wouldn't even know where to start or where to check for compatibility.
I had this happen to my old phone. Camera randomly stopped working, nothing would fix it. Took it to sprint, they swapped the camera, nothing. Your best
bet would be to put insurance on it and replace it.

It sounds like a hardware issue. If you ran VipeRUU and the camera still didn't work then the problem isn't the kernel or software, since VipeRUU puts the phone back 100% stock.
Can you do that on a used phone?... I guess I'd have to take it in since I don't see the option online.
Yeah, stock except after running VipeRUU I still had S-Off and an unlocked bootloader.

Yes you can. I bought mine off eBay, had it for about five months before the camera failed. Took it Sprint, they failed to fix it and replaced it at no charge.

I don't have insurance on it. I looked online to see if I can activate the total protection and it said my phone wasn't eligible.

Huh, that's weird. Maybe the policy changed since I upgraded to the One. I guess take it in and see what they can do for you.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Well they asked me where I got it from, I told them I bought it from craigslist, perhaps they flagged it when I activated at the store?

I was able to call in and activate the insurance... Now to restore everything to factory.

I know people have been having this issue with their DNA's from the beginning. But these past few weeks, I am getting the undetected sim card warning over 5 times a day and im starting to get pretty annoyed by it. Does anyone know if this is a ROM, Kernel, or radio issue? I was on the new Viper Sense 5 and now have gone the the GPE to see if that changes anything and it doesn't look like it does.
tape
I had the same problem on my old DNA. I read somewhere that you get a peice of masking tape and put it on the back of your SIM. Cut the excess off and put it.back in your phone it should help. It worked on mine. Before I cracked it anyway
So its not a software issue? Interesting. I will give that a try
Sent from my DLX using Tapatalk
I can't say for sure. Back when they released the 2.06 update it was supposed to have fixed the SIM problem. I remember taking the update and lost the abilitky to s-off. But it still did not help. That's when I came across that little hint on the tape and I tried it. It never messed up again.
That worked for me anyway.
If you call HTC and ask for a new sim tray then they will send it out for free. I did it and I compared the new and old one and the new ones look thicker and since putting it in I have not had one error.

I picked up an EVO 4G LTE and was going to see if I can get it set up so i can give it to my son as his first smart phone but I am unable to access the phone. The ring does not pull up to unlock the phone. I am not familiar with sense as I have been on the note until moving to the lg g2. This phone is on 4.1, 3.16.651.3 710RD. I cannot even get the unlock token for the bootloader. I have not met a phone that I have not been able to root, unlock and customize yet and THIS PHONE!!! I am looking for anyone who might know a trick because I have been searching through these forums and others(which i normally never do). Please let me know if there is a fix or if this phone is scrap. Thanks
Your screen issue sounds like a bad digitizer. As far as getting the unlock token, hit the top link in my sig and look at the links regarding how to root the device and make sure you're going through all the steps correctly.
Sent from my HTC device
Thanks, I've went through the process multiple times. I will try again. The ring moves, just does not go all the way up. If the digitizer is bad then I may be it of luck. I had read on another forum where there was the same issue and that flashing a ROM had fixed the problem. I'll look it up but I don't think I'll be able to post the link

Hi you can try doing a factory reset in boot loader to see if that does anything about the lockring not going all the way up if it doesn't its the digitizer acting up

Okay so I was browsing my phone and happened to run across the System state saying "Modified"
The issue I am having is I have never even downloaded a rooting app. The only thing close to root I have used is called Helium, which does not require root, but it can backup/restore apps+data.
I am slightly worried that if I have to send my phone in for some reason they will see this and say I have messed with the system, although I have not in the first place.
Has anyone else encountered this random issue? Other than that this phone is quite a good phone and I'm pleased with it greatly.

Let me grab a non-rooted G3 here in a few and check. I don't know that they dont all say that. Get back to you shortly. Mine also says this; however, I did root and unlock mine.

Did you fully read his post before replying? I suppose my question is as rhetorical as yours...
My interpretation was that he has not installed one rooting app. One was left to assume he had rooted the phone or did not have a rooted phone which was the basis of my question. And yes I did read his post to answer your question. I would not leave you to assume I did from my response.

no big deal that it says that. move along
If you go to the Verizon store and look at the G3's they have on display, they all say "modified" instead of "official" however when I received my phone it said "official" until I rooted it.

Just flash it back to stock if you have any issues. May as well root now anyway. G3 tweak box is amazing!
Sorry for late reply, at work so hard to get on atm.
I have not touched a single rooting app to this phone since I bought it new the day they came out. I have thought about rooting it, but I am touchy when it comes to phones that are in warrenty.
Although I might just say heck with it and actually root it anyways since it's saying modified, my main concern was why it was already saying it was modified when I hadn't touched it yet. I have experience rooting/restoring phones/tablets ever since the mesmerize/desire/fascinate ages so it shouldn't be too hard
I doubt this has anything to do with it, but when it turns on from a restart/shutdown one of the verizon apps "vzrwsservice" or something like that says it has crashed and then goes away until i restart again.
Thanks for you replies though, if someone does come up with a phone that isn't rooted but says modified, I'd be interested to know so that we can figure what's causing this.
My unrooted Verizon g3 does not say modified. It says official.

Hypothetical.... lets say someone bought it, played with it and rooted it or botched a root and returned it. try root checker in app store. just saying. makes more sense then someone snuck in your bedroom and took it and rooted while you were sleeping and returned it.
Another hypothetical...
Could it switch to "modified" if one were not rooted but had disabled some of the bloat? Just a thought.

As of now, I cannot tell what it was to change it to modified, I went ahead and tried a reset through the settings and it kept the modified status, did a flash restore and it finally got rid of the modified and is now stating Official.
(To note that when it was in download mode it also stated modified before I flashed it with the ToT file.)
I did also find the reason for the verizon server to crash, which I cannot find the location of the thread elsewhere, but it is due to Google+ and one of verizons apps not being compatible with each other and eventually causing verizons app to crash. The only way so far to fix it is either downgrade google+ to stock, or disable the VerizonAvsService to stop the crash at boot.

I have disabled a bunch of bloat without root and it has not changed to modified.
It's a Fact!!!

I have verified for myself, that my Verizon LG G3 says "Modified" as well, yet it's a fact that I have never rooted or modified any of my system settings... I'm running Stock 6.0 Marshmallow... Go figure... Who knows with Verizon...
