Well, I have a d2pad SN 201301 on the back so its somewhat new
It uses rk2829 rockchip.
Anyways Ive been trying to get recovery on it for the past couple hours to use a new rom, finally got recovery working, did everything installed my rom, and let it restart.
Well, The rom isnt compatible, there was a later version a few pages into the thread that might have been, but the one I got wasnt.
So now I'm stuck, at the intro d2 logo
I only have 1 button and it is power.
Ive tried to get adb working, because it at least says its connected, but with no success anyone have any ideas?

Hey, I realize that it's been a couple years since you posted this question. I never saw any responses. So how did it all end?
Also, there was one critical piece of information you failed to share with the XDA community...you said you worked on getting into recovery with a device that only had a power button and no volume buttons. May I ask how on earth you managed to get into recovery using only a power button? Reason I ask is that I am now facing this situation. NTech Alexis RX3HD8 tablet, rockchip RK2928 processor, power button and no volume buttons! I need to get into recovery but I cannot turn on USB debugging (and the tablet is pattern locked but the pattern was entered too many times....so I am locked out).
At this point, if I cannot enter recovery mode, the tablet is a permanently soft-bricked which is, for all intents and purposes, the same as a hard-brick.
I think what happened for me was, wanted to install new rom, got into recovery to install it, then it bricked my tab, after that I was at the logo
in my case i fixed everything by getting a rkflasher, to reinstall it, and contacting support for the factory image, which is lucky they new something about it, some companies abandon support, or dont know enoguh about what they sell, lol
as for your situation
these are the things i'd try
1. If it has google play, and is connected wifi even if its locked you can try this page
https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
and then pick ur device and factory reset it is an option (although ive never tried it)
2. search around on the internet for 1 button recovery methods, I've seen quite a few weird tablets, and some I can think of with 1 button recovery
A. a pin hole thats not the reset button or the mic, was an actual button, and that was used to get into recovery with a safety pin, and doing the normal holding it while powering on method
B.. holding the power button, and instead of letting go when u see a logo, keep holding it, till it shuts off again, then power it on
C. plug it in to pc via usb, and turn it on, while its booting, see if ur pc recognizes it at any point during the startup and try to run some commands, ive had a brand of tabs, that give u adb access during boot, but then remove it after finished booting
4. their website is in spanish, and they dont have firmware/manual links available for your tablet
You could contact support for recovery instructions or reflash instructions,, and hope they speak english or you speak Spanish
Most of the time with 1 button tablets, if theirs no info of similar ones online, unless you can contact support, you might be out of luck
PS, my edit:
also, I saw ur post on the youtube video while looking up stuff about this tablet, if that guy can get you a firmware, you have another option of trying to get to download mode too
my tablet, with rk2928 uses these instructions to get it to show up in the RKBatchTool.
https://www.d2pad.info/docs/OSFirmwareInstallInstruction_D2-721.pdf
maybe they can help you get into download mode on urs
all of this being said, I hope my first suggestion will work, IDK if wifi is disabled during pattern lock, or if u can factory reset any tablet, I just know I always see that option when I'm using it to find my devices ect.

Without ADB a soft-brick can become permanent state!

Hey thanks for getting back to me. You've been extremely helpful and your response may hopefully be found in future by others who have the same problem.
Here's how it's working out for me with this device:
1. It has Google Play but unfortunately the wifi is turned off and there's no way to connect. But in any event, the little kid whose tablet it is (I'm working on the tablet at the request of her father who is my friend), she doesn't remember the Gmail account name or password.
2. I've searched the entire Internet (LOL) including Spanish and Chinese websites/videos but no luck. I can't find anything about putting this badboy into recovery. The reset button is just for show...it only turns the tablet off in case the power button is unresponsive.
3. I've been to the website of "manufacturer". It's a Portuguese company (I speak the language) but they haven't responded to any contact requests. And they appear to offer the firmware for the devices but download link is dead. So I cannot even get the firmware to flash it. The dude on YouTube has not sent me any link to firmware.
But the bigger problem and the key to the issue is that I cannot get the tablet to be recognized by the computer no matter what I've tried. I've tried all kinds of combinations of power button play but I never get that satisfying BEEP that indicates that there is a connection open. You see, I have the drivers for the tablet but there is no way to install them without the tablet giving the opening (even if it would come back as Unknown Device). So, I'm crap out of luck with this soft-brick.
Again, thanks for your help. After 3 days and probably 15 hours spent trying to reset this thing, I'm going to have to throw in the towel. Important lessons learned:
#1. NEVER PURCHASE AN ANDROID DEVICE THAT HAS NO VOLUME KEYS (or without knowing how to get into recovery). You're only asking for trouble if anything should go wrong. And believe me, this is the THIRD TIME I've seen a device that cannot go into recovery. In one case, I was able to flash new firmware directly on bootup off the external SD card (it was an Android laptop with WM8505 chip). I guess one out of three ain't bad odds...but they are not the kind of odds you want with expensive devices.
#2. ALWAYS TURN ON USB DEBUGGING WITH ANY ANDROID DEVICE YOU OWN AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME. One day, it may end up being the savior of the life of that device because it usually means you can access the device via ADB in case of a soft-brick. LOL.

At last, did we find at last how to enter in recovery mode if there is only one button (power). I am in the same situation with @CVAngelo .Is it possible not to exist recovery mode at all? My tablet is BENEVE R708G with Rockchip RK2928. I tried every combination with power button and reset button but no luck at all.I have boot loop after trying to change the bootanimation. The weird thing is that the new boot animation ''works'' but after that it goes on boot loop forever.
So, like everyone else, I rooted my phone and decided I dont need all this bloatware and other nonsense system apps.
I was foolish enough not to back up things I were removing, and nothing SEEMED important, but all of the sudden my "Htc dialer": Has stopped working.
My phone will turn on, but I cant turn it off, it just reboots without actually turning the phone off when I hold the power down.
I cant get it into recovery mode ( power vol up) and when it turns on, it goes to the default lock screen the phone comes with, and then I CANT see my home screen at all. The home button doesnt work either.
I cant get to my apps, I have to use my girlfriends DNA to beam whatever app im trying to get to onto my phone.
I can go to settings, but cant factory reset.
I tried killing the battery to get power it off, but then cant get to recovery screen there either.
I'm not sure if anyone has the system apps apk's just laying around so I can attempt to repair my phone, ( my girlfriend wont let me root her phone, but thatll be the next step if no one can help) but any insight as to what I can do would be appreciated.
Try fastboot flashing recovery and then dirty flashing the rom you were on before you started deleting things. This may help you keep your rom setup. If this doesn't work then go to the moonshine thread run the ruu and start from scratch.

Honestly I don't know where to begin with your post. Its all over the place. The phone turns off by holding the power button for 10 seconds and waiting for the capacitive buttons to stop flashing. If your phone turns on its really not possible for this NOT to work. Yes it will reboot this is normal, though once the lights stop blinking you can quickly hold volume down and power to access boot loader and power down fully from there. Recovery is accessed from bootloader too assuming you have one installed. A lot can be done from both bootloader and recovery to solve problems so finding out if you can access them is the first step. I don't understand your statement about the default lock screen showing and you can't see your home screen. Which ROM is it? Which lock screen are you referring to? Why can't you simply unlock the phone? What is stopping you from doing that? Your home button doesn't work and you can't get to your apps...meaning? You can't access the app drawer? I thought you couldn't unlock the device there is conflicting info there. I don't see how you are beaming tasks one at a time through this painful process but I would just avoid that until you've fixed the problem. You can access settings but no factory reset, why? What can you do from settings? And finally you are asking for some apk's "just lying around".....dude your issues seem severe, obviously you are inhibited from using your phone right now but someone giving you some apps won't solve your problem in fact it would probably make it worse. Get into recovery perform a full wipe and flash a different ROM. Also don't mess with deleting apps if your not sure it might screw up your system.

Alright let me try to be a little more descriptive.
So as for the lock screen, I can unlock the screen, but then I see a black screen, no home page/icons. I cant get into the app drawer, when i try to factory reset, it says "rebooting" for a few seconds, screen turns off, right back on to lock screen, sim card says preparing, and then i'm back to where i was, doesnt actually reset. As for the beaming, I can say, open system app remover or file viewer on my girlfriends phone, then beam it, and my phone will open the corresponding app. This is the only way I can get apps to open, since I can't get to drawer or go to home screen.
When I hold down the power button down, the buttons flash, I get a message saying " continue to hold for 3 seconds" it counts down to 1, and then nothing. I can hold it til my arm falls off, nothing at all happens when it hits 1, I also can't power the phone down. If i try to, the screen goes black, capactive buttons turn white, back to lock screen and phone does " preparing sim" and the network/wifi reconnect as if it was just rebooted.
I have the default rom the phone came with, I believe I have a bootloader, I used a guide from this site to perform my root. The folder I have contains distiller, dnashellroot.apk, boot_secure, busybox, su and superuser.apk
dude your issues seem severe, obviously you are inhibited from using your phone right now

The weird part is, other then not being able to turn it off/get into drawer/see home screen, everything else works. If i get a text, i can drag down and select it and it opens. If i open gmail on my GF's phone and beam it, will open Gmail and function 100%. Same goes for any app we both have that I beam.
I just used my rooting method to force bootloader up, which worked, but when i hit recovery, im looking at a picture of a phone laying down with a orange triangle/exclamation point in the center of it.

Ok - fact of the matter is that you might want to try getting into recovery via the bootloader (vol down + power from off). If you can access the recovery module from there, you are then able to click advanced (using TWRP) then click sideload. You will then need to use ADB to sideload a new ROM onto the phone, then install via TWRP. Hopefully you might even still have the old .zip for the current ROM that you're using and just really need to get to recovery.

I can get into bootloader, i tried recovery, i get a verizon screen bootloader but just resets phone after a few minutes.
At my friends suggestion i just got TWIP installed and now i'm just waiting to see what she suggests next. I figured out thanks to my advance app killer I can get to the play store whenever i need to, and then open any apps i've installed through there. Stupid work around, but hey, it works lol.

Well if you just got TWRP installed via fastboot or goo manager you should be pretty well set. Download a new ROM, reboot into recovery and install. I would suggest wiping the davik and cache - possibly even the system just to give you a fresh start.

Absolutely! I first started out on XDA when I got my first android phone; MyTouch 3g (HTC Magic). I then took my tinkering to full fledged modding where I was charging to overclock, root and unlock phones. It used to be fairly profitable, now there's one click steps for everything. Glad you were able to figure it out instead of having to take it to someone! Good work!
Okay so Yesterday evening am prompted by OTA Update and foolishly I clicked on Update.
Code:
Version:98.72.165.XT912
Meanwhile I was trying for Ubuntu Dual Install thus Safestrap was being installed simultaneously. Long stroy short after update I lost my ROOT and all applications
i.e. Busy Box, Boot Linux, Terminal ES File Explorer while showed rooted were not having access.
Spent the whole night figuring how to accomplish as everytime I tried the Exploit I use to get the following error
Code:
[*] Phase three (this will take a minute)...
failed on '/data/logger' - Permission denied
mkdir failed for /data/logger, File exists
Unable to chmod /data/logger: Operation not permitted
link failed File exists
Thus, meanwhile I came across this Post which took me good 2 hours to decipher as per logic, plus few others and this is how I achieved a ROOT on my XT912 again without downgrading (and without having to have Voodooo Temp un-root and stuff)
Code:
1) Unmount the Ext-Sdcard I basically removed it
2) Make sure your Debugging option is enabled, USB Mode change it to MTP or Camera Just don't keep Mass Storage.
3) Settings> Apps > All > SmartActions
Clear Cache
Once Above steps are done
Proceed towards the exploit, plug you Mobile, execute the Exploit
As soon as you see "[*] Rebooting device..." for the first time, and screen turns off, immediately press Vol Down + Vol up & Power Button
In it select the last option BP Only
Rest follow the process of Exploit as they come on screen.
(I personally waited 30secs after Selecting Save on Battery Saver option).
All due thanks to orignal coders who invented the exploit, took it further, XDA & Droidrzr Forum and also to [Link]http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/36187-ota-9872165-11014/#entry395166[/Link] which gave me the direction over a good nights sleep.
Hope it helps others also.
This works with unrootable after OTA
Thanks a lot bro, was driving me crazy. Posted pic to give visual reference.
I had a little trouble with this on mine. When I got to the first reboot, I selected "BP Only" from the menu, as directed. When the phone booted, it was not recognized by my PC. The PC wanted "MZ600" drivers and couldn't find them. Yes, I had installed the latest Motorola Device Manager. So, the process stalled at "Waiting for phone to reboot".
Since I was stuck, I decided to try something else. I rebooted the phone using the power and both volume buttons, then selected BP Tools from the menu. When it booted it was recognized by the exploit and everything else went as planned.
One other thing to mention, when it booted up the second time, I had to grant SuperUser root access via the standard SuperUser pop-up before the exploit would proceed. That was kinda weird, but it all worked fine in the end.
Thanks for posting this!!
Worked perfectly! Thanks! As a side note I used the full droid razr utility and then Razr blade within that instead of the razr blade file you provided.
Also, the first time i chose bp-only it froze for me at the Motorolla screen. I had to hit the power button to shut down, and then just turned it on again. I don't know if it booted into bp-only mode this time, but nonetheless the utility installed root fine after this.

I keep getting errors.
errorrotocol fault no action no status
Any ideas?
Finally worked for me in airplane mode, "BP Tools" after the first reboot, and USB setting as "Camera". Had the same issue as in the OP with the other combinations I tried.
I installed the ota manually and there were no root, but before updating I installed voodoo root keeper. Everything is ok right know
Enviado desde mi DROID RAZR mediante Tapatalk
Worked like a charm for my first root on this phone. Thanks for the tips, It worked great!
Unable to root Razr MAXX
I stupidly updated my razr MAXX just now to 98.72.165.XT912, which I just bought and has never been rooted. Could someone please tell me, Step by step, how to root the device? the latest exploit on XDA does not work. Is there an update for this? Please help!
Thanks.
Wasn't having any luck with the instructions in the original post, though I missed the suggestion to try selecting BP Tools instead of BP only the first time around. Tried using saferoot after that and it worked with no problems. File was called saferoot-moto, found it over on droidrzr.com.
Also saw a suggestion there to disable the lock screen. Don't know if that would have made a difference with the other method but had it disabled when I used saferoot.
How does one fully unroot from this method (without losing data)? I uninstalled safestrap, and deleted \system\xbin\su , system\bin\su, & system\apps\superuser using root explorer but the darn superuser app still keeps showing up (though it no longer works properly).
Need to unroot since I got my corporate email blocked by MaaS360 due to being rooted. :crying:
I think you will need to goto Utility and perform it as far as I remeber , sorry for late reply have moved to XT1080 thus went out of touch with Motorola or there is anew update available for XT912 updated my moms phone yesterday ( it was unrooted earlier also ) that should restore your phone and probably re-unroot it.

This works for me.
Thanks OP!

Just system wipe the device 2 times. I did that and I got root access.

Since I was stuck, ... I rebooted the phone using the power and both volume buttons... When it booted it was recognized by the exploit and everything else went as planned.

I just wanted to report success on this as well. As the quotes above indicate, I had to make adjustments to the OP's instructions before it would work. The menu entry "BP Only" was not the last item as indicated in the OP, but instead it was "BP Tools". I chose the option "BP Only" as per the OP's instructions, but the phone locked up at reboot. After forcing a reboot the process proceeded as expected with no further issues.
OK, I recognize I might catch some crap on this, since you guys don't know me from Adam, but it's a crappy situation. My friend passed this on to me, because he is stumped. His brother died in a car wreck on Christmas night, and found among his possessions in the car was this Venue 8320. It's set up with a pattern lock, and of course we can't get past it.Don't have access to the email, because the guy is dead. His father tossed the cell phone that might have been linked to the email, so we can't get in the email that way. So, I'm trying to figure out how to either bypass the pattern lock, or barring that, reset it so that it's at least usable.
I've loaded the Intel Android drivers on my computer, and can get an ADB shell, or access the fastboot when booted into Droidboot, but without root access I'm still pretty limited in what I can do. Is there any way in to this thing, or is my friend SOL?

factory reset clears all lock codes but also deletes all info.
power off, then power on while holding voume down button
you should select the option called recovery, on the recovery screen you should c da droid on his back when you are there press and hold power button and voolume up button for 2 or so seconds and you should enter recovery mode

Hmm. When I go to Recovery, all I get is a picture of an android on it's side with a repair hatch open. There does not appear to be any way to do a reset from there, at least not that I can see.
I've been trying to root it, but SuperOneClick isn't working. I tried pushing the various included files manually and executing them, but they won't execute - the error message is "not executable: magic 7F45". I tracked down x86 versions of su, busybox, etc. and they will execute, so it looks like all I need now is an x86 binary for rageagainstthecage/psneuter/zergRush. Does anybody know where I would track one down? I haven't had any luck finding one so far.
When at then android hatch picture you can press power then vol+ same time, let go and u will have more options. Good luck.

there is a working method of rooting this tab is for the 4.2.2 version ( some 4.2.2's are not really working with root but others are) and if your tabby is the 4.3 update then that method to root exists somewhat but the creator of that method isnt releasing it till he deems its ready. so just look in this forum somewhere you'll find you root method if your on 4.2.2
also to enter recovery when at the droid on his back screen press and hold the volume up and power button simultaneously
there you can wipe stuff.

Yeah, thanks. I don't think it's 4.3, because it hasn't been on a network since 12/25, although perhaps that's why I haven't been able to root it. Kernel version is 3.4.34, which I see has been reported as present in a patched 4.2.2 version that is not vulnerable to standard 4.2.2 exploits. I guess that's what I haven't been able to get in. I'll tell my friend that he can either wait for a 4.3 root exploit to be released, or wipe it clean.
Thanks for the help chairsz.
.....I can not turn it back. From on/off key I meant, by usual way.
I am trying to overcome the problem seeking help here. Please, someone with any help on this?
For sure, I’ll describe the steps done, until the problem happened.

Go to download mode. Flash cf auto root. Flash stock recovery using flashify. Reboot.

Hi sam_777, please take a look on this, below:
First of all, thanks by your attention and help.
Through a video on you tube, I learned how to put the A5 in download mode.
Following what the video teach’s, was downloaded drivers for USB connection on the laptop, downloaded and unzipped the "CF-Auto-Root-a5lte-a5lteub-sma500m",.
Once with download mode setted:
I connected the cable.
The Odin3 v3.07 recognized.
The procedure followed and had the green light and msg "passed".
On the A5 I downloaded the Z4root by Firefox, installed and the device was rooted.
{Before this whole procedure above, had already downloaded on the A5 Rooter Check (which did not run and presented msg not found the root) from google play}
After root done, I run the Root Checker and at this time showed msg "rooted", ok.
I tried to shut down, but the A5 did not even shut down completely. followed caught, and featuring a standard screen that lights up when the device is turned on in a normal way, "GALAXY A5 (top) Powered by ANDROID (footer)" only these words lit in white.
Thereafter, neither the standard on / off key, or any other combination of push buttons, caused no reaction.
This was on Thursday 07:16, was well into the night, but woke with the screen off.
Thus, in 7:17, I tried to call pressing the on / off key.
It happened just a short vibration, no startup music and nothing lit on the screen.
In the second attempt kept the same key even after short vibration.
And with short interval, followed others like vibration, none sound and also nothing on the screen.
After that, at laptop, I open the Odin3-v3.07, then, connected the USB cable on A5, without pressing any keys.
It happened the same short vibration signal, just once, the same as previous attempts by pressing the on / off key.
It turned on the screen, the same standard screen that had been on when I tried turning off the A5, after the root done, and froze (again, the same standard screen that lights up when the device is started normally pressing on / off key).
It froze this screen, while Odin did not show that standard msg, when it recognizes and accuses that a device has been connected.
So, there disconnected the USB.
The screen went for a few more 20/30 min on, and then, self-turned-off.
This was at last Friday evening 7:17, after, not tried anything so far.
So, considering the above, how can I get to do the procedure you guided me ?
Thanks in advance.

New scenario reported below
Thanks by your attention and help sam_777,
I understood your instructions which one I need to follow.
Once that the A5 had past all these days without energy, I plugged the usb energy, on wall power. I left a time to pick up some battery power, and USB has been disconnected.
When I tried to get download mode, by my surprise, it was turned-on normally, again.
So, I used the own Z4root option, to “unroot”. Once showed unrooted msg, I uninstalled this application.
Then, I turned off the device, then, I turned it on, what now, turned back to happen normally again.
Facing this new scenario, how the new guide line?
What root app and path, you suggest ?
@Lzortin
Try Kingo Root app to root. It does not trip knox.
cf auto root does root the device but it trip knox and once tripped no known method exists to untrip it.

Please, take a look on this below:
First of all, thanks again, your attention has been a important support Was great, I installed Kingo Root and now is rooted, but without bugs. Then, I installed SuperSU, BusyBox, Titanuim Backup, ROM Manager, Flashify, Liveboot and TWRP Manager, the Free versions.
The “ROM Manager App” (with the Black Hat icon) which I’ll need have some of this kind of app from now ahead, it have some Sansung Galaxy S5 models and have two S6 also , listed as supported, but none of the models Galaxy A3, A5, A7 and A8.
Once installed, in order to make the download from it own server, of a “ClockworkMOD Recovery” or of “TWRP”, it asked me to choose one of these two app, I chose the last one.
So, when it suppose to started the download, at same time asked me to inform my cell model from that list. As I didn’t found, I did not choose any of them, so it failed the download and the main app didn’t run.
SuperSu is running well, limited as free versions are, but ok. And are making the log of the Busybox calls and all the others root applications. (only these above mentioned app I meant)
The Titanium, despite it is not a paid Donation version, is limited, I just made the Backup App & System App, the full one, but not to SD Card, once I use the hybrid nano chip rom with no memory card, but with a cell nano chip, using the Duos capacity, of the device. So it saved in a backup file from the own Titanium Backup.
I have been reading and studying during my free time, looking to learn how use this advanced capacities from a rooted smartphone, but yet a “sailor from first trip” with a lot to learn from now ahead.
So, I also have read about install a custom ROM’s, like a Cyanogen ROM that can speed up the processor capacity, and make the device more fast and things like that.
Thus, what a “ROM Manager app”, one with a onboard download capacity of a “ClockworkMOD Recovery app” or “TWRP app”, that you may recommend to my device?
On timely, what is the custom Cyanogen ROM firmware, reliable, that I may install, in order to replace the Android Kitkat 4.4.4, optimizing the A5 entirely?
Better, firstly what you say about Cyanogen ROM to the Galaxy A5?
Much thanks in advance.
